The Season's Curtain Raiser
It seems like only last week and you lot were here with me in Fredonia enjoying England's improbable run to the semi finals of the World Cup. But here we are today with the traditional curtain raiser for the new season, the Community Shield. This year it's title winner Citeh against Cup winner Chelski. It's at Wembley and, somehow, it's only on-line at ESPN+. At least we have access to that. So, pull up an easy chair and your favorite device and watch wth me.

Morning Boys

Just checked the big kick off next week on NBC

Huddersfield v Chelsea 10am
Sunday
Liverpool v West Ham 8:30am
Arsenal v Man City 11am
Good morning, UWS. Enjoy walkies. Looking forward to the pleasure of your company.
Sadly, Wembley won't be full today
Rangers have been playing with ten men at Pittodrie since the 12th minute
They took a 30th minute lead. They just conceded an equalizer in the 93rd minute
Still 3 more added minutes
That was an MUR post . Not sure why that logo appeared. I logged out then back in.
Martin Tyler on the mic and the players int eh tunnel
Very weird!!
City wearing their blue and Chelsea wearing their blue
HOW REFRESHING!!!
I think that one belongs to Elizabeth. I'm on her computer , so I guess it detected her account.
These guys met in 2012 Charity Shield....at Villa Park because of the Olympics
I watched our RGV Toros lose 1-0 to the Las Vegas Lights in a really dreadful match. You will not be pleased that the officials judged orange to clash with black. Your thoughts?
Out them come
I remember watching that match at my brother's house. I think Citeh had that giant Frankenstein looking figure in goal.,
I see the Premier League and FA Cup trophies are on pedestals with the Shield in between them
I like the that the trophies are there
I watched Leeds v Liverpool CS match from 1974.... the teams carried their trophies out of the tunnel... I liked seeing that even better
The temperature is very under the arch
This match and the match from ER will have a slight overlap.
No VAR in the PL but it is there today
We are off...should have been a Manc derby!!
They're off from Wembley
No ET but pens
Agreed. If United had shown up for the final it would have been
Long range effort from Sane not too far off.
City have already threatened the Chelsea goal
Chelsea playing out of the back... very shaky.... I will never understand how managers allow the risk
Where's our hero?
Weekend at Bernie's fouled by Jorginho on a weekend
City again create a chance... Siva's cross doesn't find anyone
Mahrez has a free kick...straight into the wall
Into the wall by Mahrez, but Citeh keep possession
Not sure. Is he busy?
As you said, there is an overlap between this match and the match at Elland Road.
There is also a short overlap between the Leeds match and United at Bayern
Joe Hart to Burnley. They already have a couple of excellent keepers. One even mad\de the England squad. Sean Dyche would be foolish to make Joe Hart the starting keeper.
Is there a link for United at Bayern?
Morning, boys, I'm a bit tardy after running some errands for Kate. Looking forward to the pleasure of your company today.
Both are out for a while because of injuries.
They are in need of a keeper
Welcome Bob
One nil!!
Aguero scores his 200th City goal
GOAL!!!! Aguero gives Citeh the lead. Nice run and pass from Phil Foden then he passed to Aguero , who scored with a great finish from the D
How many seasons has he played for City
Was their Championship year of 2012 his first?
I don't understand how United's top goal scorer only has 250
Good morning, Bob. Ready for all the action today?
Great finish from Sergio. He's already a good nod for the GBB. Are either of you tempted?
Did he join Citeh shortly after the 2010 Word Cup?
I am now, MUR - got my lucky Leeds shirt on and all.
Don't think so. He's getting older , meaning he's more susceptible too injury.
Bloody short corners....still baffles me... bring all the big boys up from the back... and don't put it in the box!
I was hoping England's success from corners in the WC would open managers/players minds
Extraordinary tip away there by Bravo.
Great to hear. MOT!
Easy save by Willy Cabs from a long range Aguero effort off a long clearance from Bravo.
Did he MUR? Are telling me or guessing?
Love to see Arsenal beat this lot next Sunday
What a cracker for the beginning of the season.
Chelsea just can’t get hold of the ball in midfield, which is no great surprise.
Chelsea give away the ball again
Bad touch by Sane
Regarding 2010, I was asking . Not sure of the exact date
This new Chelsea manager is not off to a great start. Not impressed by what I saw in preseason and definitely not today
Wonder why the Prem did start this early. They should have waited another week to start post WC
I like the idea of the transfer window closing as the season starts but not in a WC year!
Also, all of Europe should agree
Drinks break... this is wear the clock should actually stop!
Will the ref add more time to the added time
I agree. The Prem is starting at least a couple of weeks earlier than the other leagues, Not sure why
I like that, too, but obviously I was caught out by that one when I posted the call out for the PPP. Only one entry back in so far - get your picks done, lads!
Credit to the U.S.L. refs. A poor league , but time was added on for drinkies.
No idea who I am going to pick to win the league
I guess City... maybe Liverpool but I hate to pick either of those two just on principle
I still have a little more research to do, but will in the next few days.,
I think so too, UWS. They have to be the favorites.
I think it will be the first year that I won't pick United
I am more loyal than certain other United fan... don't want to hear any excuses!!
Ginger Winger on the bench, looking mighty pasty. Let's hope he's got extra strength sunblock on or he's going to be a lobster by the end of proceedings.
Who is the United fan?I'm not familiar with him/her.
Waiting for some late transfers before I make my picks
Courtois and Hazard both not playing.... ?
I prefer lobster, so it will hurt Citeh's title chances.
Some bloke deep in the heart of Texas...actually picked LIVERPOOL.... blasphemy!!!
I'll have two have a chat with him.
At least I have something in common with the Pythons, LOL! Or at least some people seem to think. Not I.
I might just have to readjust my thinking about Chelski after this outing. They look really anemic.
Most of the players from the semis still being rested till next weekend due to some strange FIFA Rule.
Bravo fumbles a shot from Hudson-Odoi then it's cleared away
Looks like United's match is only on MUTV?
There is a link to MUTV on my website
Oh - things opened up for young Hudson-Odoi there and then Bravo bobbled the shot.
No NBC coverage for the opener against Leicester? Really?!
Well done ref
Alonso goes down... ref played on even tho Alonso went down
I think UWS is talking about the match at Bayern today
No, I was talking about Bayern vs United today at 2:15
Already posted what is on TV next weekend earlier
Poor touch from Mahrez that ruins a nice run and pass from Phil Foden
Okay, that makes sense.
There are a lot of players on display today that I don't expect to see next weekend, e.g. Ross Barkley and Riyadh Mahrez.
A question for both of you. Does orange clash with black? I say no , but last night's ref said yes. Your thoughts?
Apparently there has been a breakthrough in negotiations between Spurs and United for Alderwiereld
It is from Fotmob...do we believe them ?
I'll like that pick.. better than Mina
I'll take MaGuire too
I think Mahrez may see some action as a sub. I expect him to be at least a regular squad member. Not sure about Barkley.
Morata has changed his number from 9 to 29! Is that for the whole season...what a numpty!!
Agreed, UWS. either would be a great signing,
Sorry, mate - I've just gone back and looked at that schedule you posted. Some good stuff. Add to that cracking Saturday schedule a tricky away fixture for my Leeds boys away to Frankie Lampard's Derby side at 12:30pm EST.
NO!!!
The late match so on ESPN + then!!
Who do Leeds play midweek?
Keep losing the ESPN+ feed - that better not bloody happen later on for the Leeds match!
We don't seem to have a mid-week fixture that I can see. Strangely, the League Cup isn't starting up yet, perhaps because we've started so early this season.
Apparently nobody BUT Boro take on the Blades and Forest host WBA... wonder why only four teams play
Mine has been perfect
I hate the modern numbering. I'm gratified to see that our big new signing from Boro Patrick Bamford has come into the club and immediately claimed the #9 shirt. Proper!
Well done Bam
I agree... I miss the 1-11 or at least 1-22
Yeah - it's a really odd schedule with only a handful of teams playing.
Well done Bam
I agree... I miss the 1-11 or at least 1-22
A pair of stoppage time minutes
Bravo Keystone Kop Moment
No problems with the reception in Deep South Texas,
How is the Brazilian getting upset with the sun sitting on the bench
More comical antics from Bravo now. I can't believe these two clubs don't have better options than Bravo and Willy Cabs.
HT
Off to the loo and walkies
Citeh one up at the half.
City's starter is being bothered by the sun on the bench
That's half-time, then. Not that much to write home about. A tidy finish from Aguero separates the sides So far.
I'm going to post a separate thread for the Leeds match coming up so that I've got the full mojo going.
Nice history of the Charity/Community Shield now on ESPN+.
Still haven't gone on walkies
I like the half time stuff about the CS history of these teams
Going to miss the start of the second
I'll listen to it on TalkSport
Teams coming back out at Wemberly now.
Second half underway as Gundogan on for Sane,One German for another
Possession is normally a meaningless stat , but significant that Citeh only had 47%. Unusual for therm
Regarding the keepers, Ederson will probably start in goal for CXteh next week. Courteous linked with a move to Real, so Willy Cabs starting for that reason, The next choice for Chelsea is Rob Green.
Citeh should have gone two u. Aguero beat the offside trap off a long ball. He rounded Willy Cabs then shot into the side netting
Easy save for Willy Cabs off a pass from Aguero as he controlled another long ball.
Kyle Walker clears a pass from Azpi for a Chelsea corner. Bravo fists away the corner,
Azpi tries to find Morata - ball was too high for him.
Nice long ball from Hair Bear but Walker cut it out. Citeh run it back up the pitch and Aguero has his brace.
2-0 Citeh!
GOAL !!! AGUERO AT THE DOUBLE AS HE PUTS CITEH TWO UP ON A TEXTBOOK BREAK. IT CULMINATED IN A THROUGH BALL FROM BERNIE SILVA AS HE AGUERO RODE THE BALL PAST THE ION RUSHING WILLY CABS
WILLIAN OIN FOR HUDSON-OPDOI AND THE THIRTSTY Dannyu Drinkwater on for a not so fab player on a really warm day
The match from ER to kick off in a few minutes. As someone new to Apple computers, can both matches be watched in the same tab?
Long range effort from Mahrez not too far off.,
I'm moving over to my Leeds thread, mate.
Got both matches omg as a moment's applause for Paul Madly and rightly so
Leeds legends applauding on the touchline. A great tribute.
I am back
Missed a goal at Wembley and the kick off at ER
I'll move over to the other thread
Off from ER. MOT!
