Top Six Sunday
I'm getting a late start on the action after a late night out last night. Arsenal have just wrapped up a sensational 1-5 win at Craven Cottage. Now I'm settling in to watch Southampton v. Chelski. Later on, it's the big one - Liverpool v. Citeh, a match-up between the two presumptive title contenders. So, pour yourself a strong cuppa and join me for all the fun.
149 Comments:
Arsenal have very quietly put together six consecutive wins after their poor start. That means that they've shot up into third this morning, ahead of the two late matches.
Fulham are now perilously close to the drop zone in 17th.
Next up is Southampton v. Chelski. the Blues must fancy breezing past Saints, who have won one game this season, and that was against a Zaha-less Crystal Palace. Mark Hughes has had to do a lot of excuse-making, but there is nobody in the game is better at that.
Hey Bob
I did text you all that I am going to be here, there and everywhere today. So I'm not going to be here much today BUT for now I'm not there and everywhere but here
BLOODY CHELSEA in GRAY....'commercialism'
Morning, UWS. Sure thing - join in when you can.
You must like Chelsea's socks.... you used to love orange
The teams now out on the pitch:
Southampton: McCarthy, Bednarek, Hoedt, Yoshida, Cedric, Hojbjerg, Lemina, Bertrand, Redmond, Ings, Gabbiadini.
Subs: Vestergaard, Long, Davis, Austin, Romeu, Gunn, Targett.
Chelsea: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Luiz, Rudiger, Alonso, Kante, Jorginho, Barkley, Willian, Giroud, Hazard.
Subs: Fabregas, Pedro, Caballero, Kovacic, Zappacosta, Cahill, Morata.
Referee: Craig Pawson (South Yorkshire)
Red carpet around the pitch!
Modern day football
Feels good I have tomorrow off
I quite like the orange socks - it's still my favorite color. But the gray tops are atrocious. Nothing to do with Chelski's traditional blue. And of course, blue doesn't clash with red and white stripes at all.
Enjoy it, mate. I'll be at work. But it should be a relatively quiet day.
Southampton have already dropped off and are allowing Chelski to dictate the pace of the match.
The commentator said it was all commercial and not clashing
Just by kicking off, Chelski have leapfrogged Arsenal into third again. A win today would have them top of the pops ahead of the late one.
Arsenal looked good this morning
Steve should be pleased
Let's hope DC U can make his day perfect this afternoon
Well, let's just hope that Chelski get humiliated today and never want to wear it again because it's bad luck.
I'll pass that on to the Gooner!
The top four... are they all set?
City, Pool, Chelsea and Arsenal
I think it could be those four!
Spurs are a goal behind Arsenal... Gunners +4 didn't hurt them today!
United are a further FIVE points behind
wwwwwwwww.Arsenal.com
new Arsenal website!
Of course, they did go some long streaks under Wenger too
Nice interplay from Chelski but then Barkley blasts well over the bar.
Why didn't Hazard shoot?
Not a good effort from Barkley
He is finally starting to get some games playing time at Stamford Bridge
Drinkwater...ruined his career with his move
Have you recovered from that big United win yesterday, yet?
Terrible defending by the Saints!
I am upset that everyone is on high and Jose is safe
We've come from two down before... City and Palace... but it was same as before in the next game. At no time was it a turning point!!
Of course... it was agains NEWCASTLE!!
If winning were measured by corners, Chelski would already be over the hill and away in this one. But the Saints are still hanging in this one at 0-0 despite the dominance.
Crowd sarcastically cheering their side when they made the Chelsea keeper touch the ball
Those are fair points - Jose should not be safe.
Some rare Southampton attacking.
One nil... Hazard with clinical finish
So pathetic by Southampton phaffing about with ball!!!
Modern Day football
Missed the goal while helping Kate out. Hazard now has seven goals.
Good to see Ross Barkley doing well. He should be part of the England set up IMHO.
Wednesday take the lead at Ashton gate on Sunday
Shadow has won!!
I am off for walkies...he is very persistent!!
LOL! Have a great walkies. Half-time. Chelski predictably on top and 0-1 up.
We're back on for the second half. Oriel Romeu has come on for the Saints.
A Southampton goal would certainly spark this match to life. Otherwise, Chelski will go on to win this one by two or three.
Mark Hughes looks peeved on the sidelines. Then again, Mark Hughes always looks peeved on the sidelines.
GOAL! Ross Barkley just makes his day better. After assisting on the first one, he scores the second.
Simple free kick routine. Soton defenders went to sleep and allowed Giroud to peel off the back and volley superbly back across the area. Barkley could scarcely miss and just kneed it in.
0-2.
Holberg becomes the fifth Soton player into the ref's book. Not their day.
I am back after a nice walk in very pleasant Fall weather
Just heard the team news from Liverpool
Three First Names isn't in the starting line up but Lovern is
Willian being replaced by Pedro now. This one is just about over, so I'm heading for the shower.
Leicester City have won more games at St Mary's than Southampton have in the last 18 months
Coachgate.... comes to nothing
City' bus arrives at Anfield with no scenes
Morata makes it three nil
That's it
Easypeasy for the Blues...I mean gray...I mean orange

YNWA to follow
Sorry, UWS - I didn't see that you'd come back. Welcome back, anyway. Hope you enjoyed the walkies.
Thanks for ignoring my teams
NBC want to be like Fox and go to commercial
I've been back for ages you numpty
With Chelski's easy peasy 0-3 win, they're currently on top. But both Citeh and Liverpool will leapfrog them back on top just by kicking off.
Sorry, mate - I went off for an early shower when it was obvious that Chelski was going to win, and I didn't refresh when I got back.
Marvelous atmosphere today. I'm hoping for a big Liverpool win - you?
All of a sudden red and blue clash
I HATE IT!!
I do too
I want City to lose and I think Liverpool will lose other matches
I do too, mate. No reason for Citeh not to play in their sky blue colors.
it's clear that if Liverpool win the title, I'll win the PPP. If they don't, I'll be bottom. LOL!
Salah goes just wide
Oh - Salah was in there but snatched at it. Atkinson should have shown a card to Mendy.
Oh - Mane did brilliantly to get around the back but his chipped cross didn't quite reach Salah.
Liverpool all over City to start
This is the first match this season where a team has taken the match to Citeh. Wolves did it in spurts at Molineux and came away with a point but Liverpool are dominating them so far.
Not playing Sane is telling here. Pep clearly just wants to keep possession and to choke the life out of the match. I hope that Liverpool murder them.
Great stuff from Robertson there. Liverpool are playing the kind of marauding stuff that they and United have always been known for.
Oh I wish
City haven’t really strung two passes together yet, certainly not in Liverpool’s half.
You'll get back to that. It showed up for about twenty minutes yesterday when they played West Ham off the park.
Teams need to take City on...If you sit back...they kill you
Who cares if you concede....just score more
Milner’s ball over the top is only just too strong for Salah, and bounces safely through to Ederson.
I agree, mate. Leeds were doing that at the beginning of the season.
Citeh creeping their way back into this match. Big call for a penalty there. Clumsy.
Lovern with a rash challenge..was it a pen
He was worried about it
That's what worries me about playing Dejan Lovren today. I would have stuck with Gomez in the middle and Trent A-A at full-back.
Everyone says it's going to be a classic
Nil nil to follow
I'm here for the duration...Siena match vs Union is off
City have controlled the last couple of minutes, passing the ball among themselves without really threatening the heart of Liverpool’s defense. Bernardo Silva seems to be in the middle of everything.
Milner having to come off
LUFC Academy has a problem now. Keita is being readied.
I wonder what's happened to Salah this season. Last season, he couldn't stop scoring.
North of the boarder
Celtic 5 nil up at St Johnstone
Rangers beat leaders Hearts 3-1
Stat update: with 10 minutes to go to the interval, Liverpool have had two shots to City’s zero, though it’s very much 0-0 when it comes to shots on target.
One season wonder
Dangerous move there from Citeh as Silva wiggles his way through into the box. Corner earned.
Graeme is right there. Citeh have taken the sting out of this match and quieted the crowd.
Just sent you lots of texts.... sorry
Half-time, then. A bit disappointing after that furious start. Hoping that Klopp can get them in the dressing and light a fire under his boys again.
Half time
Nil nil
Second half underway
Liverpool, of course, attacking the Kop
Back on for the second half. Arlo has just asked Lee and Graeme who this match matters for more. Great question. I agree with Le Sox that it matters more to Liverpool. Citeh would be the happier side with a draw.
Top of the Table as it stands
City 20 +18
Che 20 +13
Pool 20 +12
Arse 18 +9
Spur 18 +8
Bour 16 +4
Wol 15 +3
UNITED 13. MINUS 1
I fear you miss most of my comments.... REFRESH
47 mins
Post update
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
No changes at the break but both managers have treasure chests on the bench. Sturridge, Shaqiri, Sane, Jesus and Foden wait their turn.
Hardly any shots in this one!
I just refreshed - what did I miss? I didn't get any texts.
Wow...only sent them to David and Steve!
Surely this can't end scoreless
I guess we should turn over to DC United v the Fire
Aguero about to come off?
Strange decision
That hit the arm
Was a foul first
Maybe so - this one is a grind.
Weak efforts from Mahrez and then Salah
First shots on goal
A shot on target! Salah with a tame effort. I agree with Graeme - he would have bent that one in the upper 90 last season.
Mend picks up a yellow now and Liverpool can swing a dangerous free kick in.
These two teams are supposed to be free flowing, goal scoring teams!!
I was looking forward to this one... it's a dud
Aguero off for Jesus
I was, too. Agreed. Not a good match. NBC must be shaking their heads.
Gabby Jesus on now for Aguero.
Now it's Fernandinho with a foul but not a card. This one needs to go in!
Useless by Salah
Too much on the cross from Salah. Hendo should be taking these and Salah should be in the box!
Savior at Stamford Bridge about to come on... He’s going to have more time
Another useless effort from Salah
Hope that Danny came come up with another corker this week. Firmino coming off.
Sterling coming off for Sane
Sane on for Sterling now.
Did you read about that horrific crash near us?
Kathy and I were going to go to that place tomorrow!
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6249767/20-people-killed-New-York-limo-crash-way-wedding.html
No, I didn't. In Scotia?
Oh - that's awful. Glad you weren't on the road.
It's is about half hour away from us
Again, Kathy and I were going to go there tomorrow
People in the parking lot were involved too
Decent wide play there... weak header at the end
Now the pace of the header was blamed on the cross... players used to be able generate pace
Under ten to go... useless
I'd love a thrilling winner right about now...for Liverpool, of course.
We should turn over to DC United
Penalty to City
Dear oh dear - Citeh have a penalty!
100% penalty... there can't be any complaints!!
Can't really complain about that. Van Dyck didn't get any ball and caught Sane.
Mahrez to take....oh, he's skied it!!!!!
Horrible penalty miss.
ATROCIOUS PEN
Oh - Liverpool were almost in at the other end. Now, go on and win it.
Worse thing about this score is that both teams will still be unbeaten
Aguero is telling a coach... I should have been on to take that!
Agreed - but still time for Pool to win it.
Aguero isn't wrong about that. I never like allowing flair players like Mahrez to take pens.
Last minute corner now for Liverpool.
Time for one more chance now.
This match has been a disappointing
Bugger! The penalty miss livened things up for a bit but this was a rather drab affair when it should have been a thriller.
That's it.. NO ONE thought this was going to be a nil niller...they were joking about it on 5Live earlier!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, mate!
Have a good week mate
I will be here for the second half of the England match on Friday in Croatia for the relegation 6 pointer
