FA Cup 5th Round Saturday
Morning, chaps! We've reached the 5th Round stage of the FA Cup this season. Sadly, there is no Leeds United gracing the round today, so we don't play at all this weekend due to QPR's commitments. Instead we've got Brighton v. Derby to start us off, Wimbledon v. Millwall in the middle of the morning and finally Newport v. Citeh at the end of the day's action. Interspersed is a light schedule of Championship matches that I'll be eyeballing for their implication on Leeds' fortunes. Join me for the morning, won't you?

Because we live in a crazy new world, all of this morning's matches are on the Plus. The coverage of the early one has started.
The teams are in the tunnel at the Amex now:
Brighton: Button, Bruno, Duffy, Burn, Bernardo, Kayal, Stephens, Bissouma, Knockaert, Locadia, Jahanbakhsh. Subs: Sanchez, Montoya, Ostigard, Bong, Gross, Molumby, Gyokeres.
Derby: Roos, Bryson, Tomori, Keogh, Wilson, Waghorn, Holmes, Nugent, Bogle, Huddlestone, Malone. Subs: Ravas, Wisdom, Jozefzoon, Marriott, Johnson, Evans. Cole.
Referee: David Coote
A fitting tribute to Gordon Banks before we get started.
So Brighton get us started in this 5th Round tie. If this ends in a draw, then we'll go straight to penalties. Of course I'm hoping that Derby's cup commitments continue.
Cagey to begin with, both sides just feeling each other out early doors.
It’s still to take off this Cup tie.
And now we've got a lengthy stoppage to treat Brighton striker Locadia. This one is threatening to send me back to bed.
Brighton free kick now....
A dribbler by Bissouma in the end - had to be turned around by Roos.
First yellow card of the outing for Wilson.
Brighton race forwards in numbers and Jahanbakhsh finds Bissouma on the overlap. The midfielder hares into the box and his eyes light up as he sees a sliver of the goal from around 18 yards out … but he wallops a horrible right-footed effort well wide. Dear me, this is dreadful stuff.
Finally a shot in anger, from Knockaert, curled toward goal. Pushed away by Roos.
Nugget upends Knockaert now and Brighton have a free kick chance out wide left.
GOAL! It's Knockaert who's been the bright light in this match and he's opened up the scoring for Brighton. Great strike!
GOAL! Locadia mops up Brighton's second goal after Bissouma had hit the post.
2-0 Seagulls!
Players back out for the second half at the Amex and....bloody hell, Ashley Cole is still playing football! He's on alongside Jack Marriott for Derby.
Huddlestone pings a crossfield ball to Bogle on the right. He sidefoots a cross towards Waghorn on the edge of the box, but he feints to shoot and lets the ball fall behind him to Wilson, who drills a shot at goal that Duffy clears with his head. He’ll be seeing stars after that. It thumped into his forehead.
Brighton have stopped pressing Derby high up the pitch. The away side are now finding it much easier to work the ball forwards. It always fascinates me that teams invariably sit back when they get a comfortable lead.
Hi Bob,
I am here and about for a while today
I am watching the Cup match on the computer but on my telly I am making my mom and U Arthur happy... following Pompey winning 3-1 at Southend....they need to get out of their stick patch
Teams sitting back doesn't fascinate me... it infuriates me!
Rotherham and Shef Wed are 1-1 at half time with two quick goals
Morning, UWS - I feel the same way. I don't really understand it and it infuriates me that teams won't just keep playing.
20 minutes left at Southend and just a bit more at Brighton
These 3 points for Pompey would only keep them third
6 points behind Luton and even with Barnsley
If it is working... don't change
Good morning Bob and Dave. Just woke up after a late lie in.
Morning David
Bottom of the Lot Notts County ahead 1-0 at ht vs Mansfield
Oh - Knockaert, the standout for Brighton today, strides forward and nearly curls in a third. Decent save from Roos.
Morning, MUR - how are you, mate? Good week?
I am sure you agree that we are all big Bolton fans today
Who should Leeds have been playing?
I'm going to research it
Leeds were to play QPR today but the Rangers had an FA Cup match yesterday instead. We've got Bolton at home next Saturday.
Bugger... Southend have a penalty with 14 minutes to go... it could be 2-3 after being 0-3
Scored... 2-3
Thanks Mate
Doing well and feeling well rested after a difficult week . Thank you for asking, Bob.
That match vs Bolton next Saturday is on Plus
Locadia has gone down after an awkward turn - that didn't look good at all.
Locadia down for the Seagulls.
All my weeks are difficult...but not next week... I AM OFF
Turn my ankle like playing indoor... so painful!
Sparky's health took a turn for the worse and we thought we might lose him.On Valentine's Day, he started making a great recovery and is starting to get back to normal. That was our real Valentine's Day gift
Cyokeres on for the injured Locadia
Derby get a goal back
A goal by Ashley Cole!!
GOAL! It's Cashley with a goal back for Derby - wow!
Game on!
Remember, no replays from this round on
Extra time and replays if Desmond show up
GOAL !!!ASHLEY COLE PULLS ONE BACK FOR THE RAMS ON HIS DEBUT AT THE AGE OF 38
Pompey with a chance... blocked
Still have 5 minutes to hold out for a MUST win
A relief about Sparky
BLOODY HELL... THREE THREE
Great goal by Southend
BUGGERS
Nearly Desmond as Button tips over a header from Keogh
Great goal by Southend
BUGGERS
Thanks, UWS. That's why our week was difficult. It was stressful for our entire family and something I wouldn't wish on anyone. We just delighted. he's approaching his normal self.
I do hate the thought of Shadow
Sorry about the goal, UWS
Phew! I'm really glad to hear about Sparky's recovery.
Pompey have a corner in the 93rd of 94... come on Pompey
PUP... almost headed in... but wide
Could easily have been a pen there.
Back from getting coffee. Into a quartet of stoppage time minutes as David Button was guilty of a poor punch and Harry Wilson volleyed well wide
Thanks, Bob. I really appreciate it. I know how you feel, Dave. Sparky and Fred become teenagers in the next few months.
One last corner in added time of added time... all over
That's it... two points dropped. It was my fault! Two goals after I tuned in!!
Tomori tries the spectacular - doesn't quite come off.
Sorry for my lack of manners. Congratulations on your well deserved week of. Will be around for the matches on Monday and Tuesday. By getting off Tuesday, I got out of the Spring Open House
Not your fault, mate. You're a steadfast Pompey supporter.
Derby have one more chance now - this will be it.
Sorry. I meant to congratulate UWS on a well deserved week off
Brighton hang on for a 2-1 in and they'll progress onto the quarters. It's back to the playoff hunt for Frankie Lamps and his Rams.
It's over and the Seagulls make it to the quarters as they hold on to defeat the Rams 2-1.
All over at the AMEX
Brighton and Watford in the the quarters....is it 1983 and 1984 all over again!
Both teams lost in those Finals
Next on Plus is the Real Dons vs the Evil Lions in the Cup and the West Midlands Derby in the Championship as Villa host the Baggies.
Great anoraking, UWS. If they lose to United in the final then that's fine
I am off for walkies
That's what I was thinking
Palace get to their second Cup Final in 2016 and have to play United for a second time.
Same for Brighton!
I know all the Cup Finals in my lifetime and before! Especially for the time I was living there
Back from a refreshing shower to follow the 5th Round tie between the Fake Dons and Evil Millwall. Hopefully the ground will open up and swallow them all.
I used to know all of those but my brain has got rusty on the details over the years.
I can never take it seriously when a mascot is involved in an ovation (like this one) or worse, a moment of silence.
So far so good in the Championship today - lowly Rotherham did over Not a Big Club early on. Now we just need Bolton to do the biz for us against Norwich and Villa to get something from WBA.
Back from walkies and the loo as the Real Dons have a close range effort come off the post after a great run and pass down the right
The Fake Dons are not in this match. They're the real Ones mate and definitely want the ground to swallow up the Evil Lions.
GOAL! Millwall strike first through a nice move and header by Murray Wallace!
BUGGER! MURRAY WALLACE GIVES THE EVIL LIONS THE LEAD WITH A CLOSE RANGE EFFORT AFTER A RUN AND PASS DOWN THE RIGHT. A FREE HEADER FROM CLOSE RANGE
Bob will not be pleased that the Evil Blades have taken an early lead against the Reading Railroad.
Earlier today, it finished Desmond between Rotherham and Not a Big Club in a South Yorkshire Derby at the New York Stadium
A real shocker in L2 as promotion chasing Jayne Mansfield must have been hungover. Bottom club Notts County on top of Jayne as they got a much needed 1-0 win and are only two points from safety
More bad news for Bob as the Canaries take the lead at Bolton
Richard Burton having a difficult day on stage . Not getting a role in the taming of the Shrews as they take the lead vs Richard Burton .
I am back from walkies
Can't believe there EIGHT added minutes at Rotherham and Wednesday scored after NINE
Added time has to be fixed!!
WAY HAY!! Salford take the lead vs Dover as does Barnet at table topping Solihull Moors.
Yeah - it's that bastard Teemu Pukki on the scoresheet again for the Canaries. They're on top again, albeit with one more game played than us.
David Beckham has just seen his first Salford goal, scored by Dennis Politic, whose nickname is probably not “The Governor."
I was listening to talkSPORT on my phone on my walk
John Motson on the mic for the Wimbledon match.
Good to hear his voice again but he sounds like a doddering old man messing up with players
Welcome back, UWS. Agreed about the extra time.
Richard Burton ties it up at the Shrews. A twist in the tale?
So, are Millwall going to make the quarters... shades of 2004....Beaten by United of course
A Shame about Motty? Hope people remember the real Motty instead of the old man. Thought he had retired.
Atrocious free kick from Jed Wallace of the Evil Lions.
Salford have fallen to sixth I think before today's matches
Wonder how the Ginger Prince will get on at home to Crewe today after winning his debut 4-1 midweek
Would love the Real Dons to make a real comeback. Sure hope not for the Lions, but would love United to win the Cup
Blades already two up vs Reading!
In the first fifteen minutes of the day, Leeds have dropped to third!!!
A bad day in the Championship as the Evil Blades go two up vs the Reading Railroad.
There is a six point gap between third and fourth
It always seem to happen that three teams pull away and one will miss out on automatic promotion
Wishing the Ginja Ninja the very best. What happens if Oldham face Salford in L2 next season? A conflict of interests?
Barnsley take the lead vs Wycombe. Bad news for Dave and Fred
The Fake Dons took the lead at Carlisle , who tied it up three minutes later
That was a sticking point of him taking over at Oldham
It is a rule you can't be with two clubs but it was determined that he just has business investment in Salford small enough to be cushty
Yeah - the scores aren't going well for us today. But if we just keep winning, that's the main thing. We'll still have that match against QPR to come.
The Real Dons took a long free kick that was fumbled by the Evil Lions keeper, but the offside flag was raised.
Agreed
Salford back up to third as I type
From the Guardian blog: "So, Watford and Brighton through to the FA Cup quarter finals, Millwall looking like joining them, the country seemingly on the verge of economic and social collapse. Have I fallen asleep and woken up in 1984?”
Havant and Waterlooville take the lead vs Wrexham. More good news for Salford.
Good point , UWS, regarding Scholes. LOL, Bob. George Orwell's predictions coming true?
Folivii was in there with a real chance but he blew it well wide.
The Cup match yesterday was dreadful. A waste of time watching it on replay
BUGGER! Dover ties it up at Salford
Norwich double their lead
The Ginja Ninja rocking away as Oldham takes the lead vs Motley Crewe/
Good news for Cambridge as Forest green take the lead vs Yeovil in a Derby match
Reality should be restored as Citeh should be joining the others in the quarters today
Great shot of a neglected area where one of the balls cleared the stand. The life of a smaller club.
I'm just going to ignore those scorelines today. Nothing to worry about.
Coventry takes the lead vs Wasall as do the Gils vs Scunny
Hopefully, those two blow their leads. You never know
Forest Green two up vs Yeovil
Charming banter between the two sets of awful fans here at Kingsmeadow.
That would be nice but I'm just going to assume that my lot will continue to win.
Three nil Canaries
Long spell of possession from the Evil Lions culminates in a cross clearing the stadium
YIKES! More bad news for Leeds.
Just looked it up
QPR vs Leeds Tuesday Feb 26th
Coventry two up vs Wasall.
Leeds need to defeat Bolton next Saturday as well as QPR
Real Dons fans calling the Evil Lions cheats. Definitely great banter
Just tuned in Villa vs West Brom on my computer
Definitely a Villain fan today
The radio said how there would definitely be goals... nil nil of course
Robinson Kanu just scored for the Baggies
Blades 3-0 up
Just over 3 miles between the two grounds
Wimbledon just coming back into this match.
The Baggies take the lead at Villa Park. Sorry, Bob.
That's the ticket. Today is not great for the GD race, for sure.
Stoke take the lead at Ipswich
BUGGER! Potters take the lead at PR.
Also not good. And they've got a game in hand on the rest.
Poor old Tractor Boys - no hope for them.
Table topping Luton take the lead at Fleetwood Mac
Just noticed that Aston Villa and West Ham have done away with their blue sleeves...Burnley still have their blue sleeves
All the play seems to be in the Villa half of the field
TWO NIL BAGGIES
Jay Rodriquez in off the post
I miss the blue sleeves and the old kits in general.
Baggies two up at Villa Park
Big deflected shot
First half winding down - Wimbledon still in this one.
Sol's lads take the lead vs Colchester
Bloody hell!
Villa Park isn't a happy place right now
Fans look fed up
Evil Lions one up at the half thanks to that early goal and not a real threat from the Real Dons since
Wonder what reception Gareth Barry got coming to VP
At least the fans at Portman Road will have a successful team to watch next season....HOPEFULLY
Ginger Prince's lot one nil up!
HT at VP
Didn't the old Leeds boss take over at Hibs this week
They are two up at half time
Oldham are four points off the play offs... .COME ON SCHOLESY
Like the half time stuff on Plus from Wimbledon
Wally Downes, the Real Dons manager , and former Crazy Gang member, with a halftime substitution.
Teams out for the second set at Wimbledon
Second half underway from Kings Meadow.
An Oldham promotion means no conflict of interests.
Back for the second half now. I'm going to have to bugger off before the end of this one, as we're scheduled to meet up for lunch with one of Kate's college friends who's visiting family nearby.
It was a scrappy first half as it was yesterday at Loftus Road.
Sounds like a great time. Wishing you and Kate a great lunch
More urgency from the Real Dons early in the second half as the y win a corner off of Romeo, not Juliet
Atrocious short corner.,
Please take a look at this trailer... I think it looks really good
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD6FDkUXSZQ
Bloody hell - the Blades are 4-0 up now! Not good at all for us.
Yikes indeed! As long as Leeds win their matches, everything will work out
Wow - that looks really good!
You watch it? Great idea!
The Beatles? Who?
Ramsdale makes a save from, Gregory, keeping the Real Dons in the Cup.
Real Dons win a free kick just outside the Evil Lions box. Easily gathered by Jordan Archer, the Evil Lions keeper.
Not good for Pompey
Blew away a three goal lead and now Luton and Barnsley both winning
Solihull now two down at home
Villa do like a comeback... will it happen again today
Was it last week that it was 0-3
Luton two up at Fleetwood Mac
Rangers still scoreless at home to St Johnstone... Defoe started his first league game
Colchester tie it up at Sol's lads, while table topping ABle Lincoln takes the lead vs Stevenage
Ruddy Norah... Norwich now 4-0 up!
Top two both winning 4-0!!
Of course, Leeds will still go top
Canaries four up at Bolton
I lost points in PPP with Leeds dropping off top spot!
I have the top four on the dot for the Prem and I'm still second
Hate you MUR
Forest Green three up vs Yeovil
Just wait until Liverpool take the top spot again. I want my double!
Do Chelsea Women play at Wimbledon? There is a sign on the stands for them
I think I have the top four in correct order too and also lost points for picking Leeds to be top. I think the only difference between us is that I have points for picking Salah to be GBB.
You go from Top to Bottom with one team!!
BUGGER! Dover have come from two down to lead 1-2 at Salford.,
I picked him too
More bad news for Salford. Wrexham have come from behind to lead 1-2 at Havant and Waterlooville.
Wrexham lead 1-3
Villa and Forest aren't doing me any favors for promoted teams
Forest have turned the corner and could get to the playoffs
Villa.... SUCK
I picked Jose to get the first vote of confidence. That may be the difference
