Time for the Bounce Back
Last time up, my beloved Leeds United slumped to their first defeat of the season, losing a big six-pointer to promoting rivals Swansea at Elland Road. We'll need to brush that off and win big on the road to Barnsley today. A 2-0 win would take us back up to the top of the Championship.
Arsenal similarly could use a win today on the road to Watford. It's a day of redemption for our teams. Drop on in with a cuppa to watch it all.
390 Comments:
Sadly, there is no televisual coverage of the match this morning, so I'm following along on the LUFC text.
The starting line-up for the good guys today:
Leeds: Casilla, Dallas, White, Cooper, Alioski, Phillips, Shackleton, Klich, Harrison, Hernandez, Bamford. Subs: Meslier, Douglas, Roberts, Nketiah, Costa, Berardi, Gotts.
Three former Leeds players are in the Barnsley starting eleven - Halme, Mowatt and Wilks all featuring. Sammy Odour is also named on the bench. Should be interesting.
Barnsley get us underway at Oakwell. Come on, you Leeds! MOT!
It seems like we're a bit under the cosh at present. Barnsley with a couple of early chances foiled by Ben White and Kiko.
Unfortunately, the suits at the Plus have decided to show the Huddersfield v. Not a Big Club match this morning. It's 0-1 NABC at present through a goal by Steven Fletcher.
The match seems to have swung back in our favor now. Come on!
Oh - Alex Mowatt plays in Luke Thomas and Kiko is forced to make another fine save.
Ali wins us another corner. We're racking up those this morning, but we need to make them count!
Merely by kicking off, we've jumped back into second place above Charlton. But we need the win today.
Half way through the first half - I want a goal for the Leeds boys! MOT!
Oh - Patrick comes close after being played into the box by Shackleton. Might have squared the ball.
Oh - best chance of the match so far. Jack Harrison finds Pablo well placed in the middle of the box but he can only blast over.
Barnsley clogger Toby Sibbick picks up the first yellow card of the match.
Coming down to the last few minutes before half time - would love a Leeds goal to take into the interval. Come on!
Wilks is proving a handful up front for Barnsley. He turns and fires just wide. Got to watch that.
We've won a good free kick chance on the right flank deep into the first half now. This one needs to fly in!
Phillips' delivery is deflected out for yet another corner.
Peep peep! All square at the break.
Good morning, Bob. Here to join you for Sunday footie. It looks like a West Yorkshire vs South Yorkshire Championship morning.
Not a Big Club two up at the Terriers . YIKES! The Terriers in a relegation , second from bottom headed for a second consecutive relegation.
Leeds in second as it's 0-0 at Barnsley.
COME ON LEEDS! SCORE SOME GOALS TO GO TOP! MOT!
Morning, MUR - how are you, mate?
Back for the beginning of the second half at Oakwell.
Oh - Patrick goes close early on in the second half. Klich played him into the box by his tame effort can't beat Collins.
Now we've had one disallowed. Helder Costa, who replaced Harrison at the break, breaks into the box and slots one across for Patrick to slot home but he's ruled offside.
Oh - now Ali has gone just wide with a header at the back post. We're knocking at the door. Come on!
Costa is causing all sorts of problems for Barnsley now - he gets to the by-line but no one is following in for the cross.
doing well, thank you for asking. Didn't sleep well, but not tired. How are you?
Not a Big Club still two up at the Terriers as they enter stoppage time.
Wills goes close down the other end. Into the side netting.
Patrick heads wide again from a Klich cross. He's got to be finishing some of these. He's had at least five golden chances today. Come on!
Morning boys
I did get a score update and then correction on my phone
What a shame!
It's LEEDS TIME!
Dallas wins a corner now - come on - this one needs to fly straight in!
Morning, UWS - thanks for the support. We need. Your friend Patrick Bamford is having another one of those wasteful days.
Good morning, Dave. How have you been?
It's over at the John Smith's Not a Big Club win 0-2 at the Terriers and move up to ninth. The Terriers second from bottom ahead of the Potters on goal difference and headed for a second consecutive relegation.
Wilks again breaks into the box and pulls a good save out of Kiko. That's the danger.
Not fussed about Not a Big Club. By definition, they're not a big club.
Slept in a little this morning
Leeds not only move top with a two goal win, but can move Barnsley into the drop zone as well.
COME ON LEEDS!
Teams in the tunnel...NBC doing this stupid split screen
Pictures don't take in the atmosphere!
Will they take another break before kick off!
Teams lining up in the tunnel at the Vitality now for the match on the box:
Bournemouth: Ramsdale, S Cook, Ake, Rico, Stacey, Billing, L Cook, H Wilson, King, Solanke, C Wilson
Subs: Boruc, Simpson, Lerma, Ibe, Fraser, Surman, Mepham
Everton: Pickford, Coleman, Keane, Mina, Digne, Delph, Schneiderlin, Richarlison, Sigurdsson, Iwobi, Calvert-Lewin
Subs: Stekelenburg, Holgate, Walcott, Sidibe, Bernard, Davies, Kean
Surprised to see the Terriers in the drop zone. Didn't expect them to win back promotion, but thought they would be a mid table side.
We win a free kick out wide right but it's cleared by the Barnsley backline. Come on!
Agreed. Don't care for the split screen
Might have to throw Eddie on for Patrick in a moment.
Spot on, mate - they've gone off for another break while the handshakes are happening. Poor form.
And they did go again!!
How many commercials do you need!
And why are they hawking pizza, spicy nuggets and Pepsi right now - it's not 9 o'clock in the morning!
Anything to make money. Disgraceful!
We are off at Dean Court...I will continue to keep calling that
They're off from the Vitality stadium.
The match from the Vitality has kicked off.
Well done, mate. I like the old traditional names.
Ali fires wide from the edge of the box. We clearly need some shooting practice.
The Wilson's and the Cooks will be key players for the Cherries. Lewis Cook formerly of the LUFC Academy? Delph of the Toffees for sure.
Just as the doctor ordered - Eddie has come on for Patrick. Let's hope he can win this one for us. Come on!
Yes, it's sad to see Lewis Cook lining up for the Cherries today. One of our own.
Iwobi has a shot blocked for a corner off a poor Cherries clearance that did not receive Top Billing.
Oh - our old boy Halme hits the post with a header but it's ruled offside anyway. Phew!
The Cherries Dine in on the corner and head it away
Need a goal and Bamford comes off
That says it all
The Arsenal kid replaces him
Sounds like a typically contested Yorkie Derby.
Is that Eddie?
Siggy gets down the right and Ramsdale tips over his cross
The Cherries head away another corner they done in on then Ake forced to head out for another corner
Oh - Dallas is denied by another super stop from Collins.
Steve Cooks up a Cherries free kick off a corner that the Toffees tried to Digne in on.
Yeah - Eddie Nketiah. He's on loan from Arsenal with us this season.
Patrick just wasn't finishing the chances today.
Better from the Cherries Long clearance from Lewis cooked up a pass to Cally Wilson and he passed off to Phil for a decent long range effort not far off Top Billing
Now the Cherries have a free kick
Fifteen minutes left plus stoppage time for us to win this one. Come on!
Free kick headed on and a bicycle kick from Solanke goes well wide.
Oh - Klich's effort deflects inches wide for another corner. Make it count!
And Klich fires over from distance from the resulting corner. Shame.
Is it true that the Cherries won't have a great tasting cherry pie because there are two many Cooks? Isn't that the saying?
We could use some goals from Klich this season. He was on fire last season around this time but this around he's only noticed the one goal in the League Cup against Salford.
Is it Kliching for Leeds? Sounds like a decent performance except for the finishing.
Leeds had several players on duty during the international break. Don't Barnsley did
Lewis Cooks up a Cherries free kick
Free kick from Harry Wilson straight to Pickford.
Ten minutes plus change left at Oakwell.
Yeah - same as the last outing v. Swansea. Lots of missed chances.
England get Steve Smith out for 23!!!!!!!
He's scored 144, 142, 92, 211, 82 and 80
England set Australia 399 runs to win the Final test
They are 85 for 4
Looks like the series will end Desmond but the Aussies retain the Ashes
Costa wins a free kick just outside the box on the left. This one needs to go in, boys!
Sounds like a great series, especially for Steve Smith
YES!!
LEEDS TAKE THE LEAD according to FotMob
YESSSS!!! LEEDS TAKE THE LEAD.
YESSSSS!!!!!!
Eddie, you beauty!
That was my source as well. Great minds think alike.
Nketiah nods home from Kal's delivery. 0-1 Leeds!
Congrats, Bob. What a substitution!
Is it Super Sub
START HIM
Phew - Halme nods wide from a corner for Barnsley.
SCORE MORE LEEDS! TIME TO GO TOP.
Ramsdale does well to rush out and block at the feet of Calvert-Lewin. He really rammed him!
That would make four perfect 1 nllers this weekend
United, United, Forest, Brum
That's Eddie's fourth of the season for us, as many as Patrick.
YESSSS!!!!!!!
Eddie is tripped up by Halme and we've got a penalty chance!
That's amazing considering he pretty much comes off the bench
Come on, lads - finish it!
WOW! COME ON LEEDS . SCORE!
YESSSSS!!!!
Cool as you like, Klich slots home the spot kick.
0-2!
BBC says Barnsley should have leveled immediately with a header
TWO NIL!!!!!
YES!!!!
That'll do nicely - top of the pops again!
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!! KLICH PUTS LEEDS TWO UP FROM THE SPOT AND TOP OF THE POPS
You guys blew the 1 nil streak!
INTO STOPPAGE TIME. blow up, ref
Into stoppage time now - I'm a happy chappy.
GOAL !!! CALLY WILSON GIVES THE CHERRIES THE LEAD.
Bournemouth take the lead
Well.... VAR is checking
VAR checking for offside and possible hand ball.
I don't think it will count
Didn't it hit the hand?
It counts
Wilson puts the Cherries up
Goal awarded , giving the Cherries the lead.
Berardi on for Klich on a defensive minded substitution. UWS will not be pleased with that stoppage time substitution. Bob won't mind
It's over at Oakwell
Congrats mate!!
TOP OF THE LOT
That's it - We've run out 0-2 winners today. Marvelous! That's us back on top of the pops with 16 points from 7 matches and with superior goal difference (+9) to Swansea.
Cally Wilson offside as he chips Pickford and it lands on top of the net
Goal coming... off to the loo
Congrats, Bob. Top of the pops ahead of the Swans on goal difference. Barnsley move into the drop zone, replacing Wigan. Another Yorkshire rival in the drop zone is an added bonus
Nearly one with that chip from Cally Wilson
Back to the goal. A superb curling corner from Harry Wilson was headed on by Solanke then played back by Josh King for an easy finish from Cally Wilson
Josh King wins a free kick thanks to a spicy foul from Coleman
The free kick from Harry Wilson is blocked by the wall.
Back from the loo and did not miss a goal.
Rich Arlison skipped a meal. Headed well wide as he failed to Digne in on a great cross after a great pass from Iwobi
UWS will be interested in this stat. The Cherries lead the league in goals conceded from faffing about at the back!
Delph with his requisite booking for a really poor foul on Harry Wilson.
Ake with a shot off Solanke and out for a goal kick after a long ball from Jack Stacey was headed on.
Solanke goes on a run down the left and a shot receives enough of a Billing for a Cherries corner
I am back and it in time for the equalizer
GOAL! Calvert-Lewin fires Everton back on level terms.
GOAL !!! THEN THE CHERRIES GO DOWN THE RIGHT AND CALVERT-LEWIN HEADS IN A CROSS FROM RICH ARLISON TO TIE IT UP. NOW 1-1
A minute of stoppage time
A long clearance from Pickford was headed on to Coleman . He played Richie down the right and his cross was headed in by Calvert-Lewin. it's 1-1 at the half.
Half time
The second half is underway from Dean Court
Ramsdale does well to turn around a shot from Siggy
Cherries counter down the left and a cross is cleared by Jerry Minor for a Cherries corner punched away by Pickford, for which a Cherries foul was called.
Like for like as Wee Ryan is on for Harry Wilson.
A Toffees booking for Digne in on Wee Ryan on a Cherries break
Nice one touch Toffees passing results in Digne in for a corner off of Wee Ryan. Cherries Digne in by heading away the corner
VAR checking for hand ball. Nothing doing as Steve Cook is down injured. Is that a recipe for disaster?
OH!!! A long ball is played by the Toffees and an undercooked back pass from Steve forces a great block by Ramsdale from Calvert-Lewin
Josh King goes on a speedy run down the left getting past two Toffees then is fouled from behind by Rich Arlison just outside the box and is booked for that
GOAL !!! WEE RYAN CURLS IN A FREE KICK AND IT'S DIVERTED IN BY DELPH FOR AN UN FORTUNATE OG. CHERRIES LEAD 2-1
Nice long ball from Wee Ryan and it's a poor touch from Cally Wilson, but the Toffees clear for a Cherries corner
Big Duncan preparing another Toffees change with Marco Silva despondent on the bench not sensing a Silva Lining.
A double Toffees substitution. Bernard on for Calvert-Lewin, the scorer and Moise Kean on for Siggy.
GOAL !!! HORRIBLE TOFFEES DEFENDING AND CALLY WILSON WITH A BRACE AS HE SCORES WITH A GREAT FINISH TO MAKE IT 3-1
It started with a Cherries throw and after both teams exchanged clearances , a long clearance from Diego Rico caught out the Toffees defense and Cally Wilson scored with a great finish past the stranded Pickford.
The Cherries with a substitution and one less for the LUFC Academy as Lewis Cook is replaced by Thomas Jefferson Lerma.
Stacey down off a slide tackle after Digne in on a challenge. Cherries have one substitution remaining. Looks like cramp.
Stacey up and able to continue
Sorry Boys... I have been missing a lot today
Just got back from walkies
Great save by Ramsdale from Iwobi then Rich Arlison shoots the rebound wide. Great pass from Kean
Final roll of the dice from Marco Silva and like for like as Theo is on for Rich Arlison.
Welcome back, Dave
A poor back pass from Michael Keane results in a Toffees corner.
Wee Ryan heads out a cross from Bernard for a Toffees corner
The story currently receiving top Billing is that A Cherries player is down injured
He's up and able to continue as we head into a quintet of stoppage time minutes
DIgne wins a corner off of Wee Ryan
Corner from Digne headed out and Theo shoots straight at Ramsdale.
Final roll of the dice from Eddie and my Howe UWS will not be pleased at a substitution deep in stoppage time as Chris Mepham is on for Diego Rico.
Schneiderlin booked for a poor foul on Solanke.
It's over at Dean Court as the Cherries defeat the Toffees 3-1.
I'm back from a refreshing Sunday morning shower for the late one.
Guess who else is back - it's Quique Sanchez-Flores! But why?
The teams now gathering in the tunnel at Vicarage Road:
Watford (4-2-3-1) Foster; Kiko Femenia, Dawson, Kabasele, Holebas; Doucoure, Capoue; Hughes, Cleverley, Deulofeu; Gray.
Substitutes: Gomes, Foulquier, Janmaat Mariappa, Chalobah, Sarr, Pereyra.
Arsenal (4-D-2) Leno; Maitland-Niles, Sokratis, David Luiz, Kolasinac; Xhaka; Guendouzi, Ceballos; Ozil; Pepe, Aubameyang.
Substitutes: Martinez, Chambers, Saka, Torreira, Willock, Martinelli, Nelson.
Referee Anthony Taylor.
Hi, I have been in and out today
Poor showing
Teams out
NBC split screening
Welcome back, mate. No worries - I was out of it for most of the last match. And then I thought this one was starting at 11.
We're back from the endless ad breaks and ready for the match.
We are off at Vicarage Road on a Sunday... seems apt
Back for the late match from VR. The Hornets first match in Quique Sanchez-Flores's second spell in charge.
It's also the return of Beaker - Mesut Ozil. I don't rate him.
They're off from VR
More tea, Vicar?
I think Beaker is starting because Torreira is being rested due to jet lag.
Sorry Steve but of course I am an Hornet right now
No doubt you're right, mate. I don't think that Emery Board likes Beaker - he should be flogged in January. I thought I heard that he was to be Rooney's replacement at DC United.
Quique was hired half an hour after Javi Gracia was sacked. WOW! Sounds like corporate back stabbing.
Steve will probably not be pleased to see the Beaker at D.C. would love to see the back of him
Refreshing that Arsenal are wearing red away
It’s been a frantic start to the game, and Watford look full of the joys of a new manager. Well, sort of new.
Jay Leno and the Beaker in the starting lineup. Late night comedy and Sesame Street for the Gunners
Yeah - why not? No clash at all.
Will this managerial change give the Hornets a Quique start? Your thoughts?
Lee Dixon is starting in early with irritating the Gooner. I suspect that Lee isn't going to make his Christmas card list.
Agreed. Too many tams wearing their change kits when it's unnecessary
Deulafeu with the first shot in anger. Leno bats it down reasonably effectively. I'd still like to see keepers catch the ball cleanly.
Deulofeu with a curler straight at Jay Leno.
Cholevas down off a challenge with Maitland-Niles
Ashes update
Aussies 200 for 5
They need 199 more runs
England need 5 wickets
Arlo and Le Socks probably won't be receiving any greeting cards from him either. Perhaps his two cents worth.
Arsenal with a free kick - floated toward the back post and cleared by Dawson.
