Saturday is Footie Day!
I've survived a bruising first week of the semester and am looking forward to settling in for a morning of the good stuff. We get started with United's trip to St. Mary's to play Soton. Ole's boys have faltered of late; can they bounce back today. Speaking of bouncing back, at 10am, my eyes will be fixed on Elland Road where I'm hoping that my Leeds boys can shrug off that penalty defeat in the League Cup to Stoke in mid-week. It's a true six-pointer against second place Swansea this afternoon. At the end of the day, we've got league leaders Liverpool on the road at Turf Moor.
Join me for a footie morning, won't you?

Morning, chaps! That didn’t take long. Just two games after a stirring 4-0 win over Chelsea, Manchester United are apparently in crisis again. It’s infantile nonsense, of course, which doesn’t deserve the time of the day. But this is the culture football chose, and all the old-fashioned values in the world won’t help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer once the media go for him. The only way he can succeed with his long-term plan is to get enough good results to divert the noise elsewhere.
Morning Bob
Could't agree with you more!
Not really liking the line up
Why isn't Greenwood starting? I thought he was the answer to the Lukaku hole
Teams coming out...NBC going to commercial
Morning, Dave - hope you've had a good week.

Good Morning, Dave. I agree as well.
NBC are getting sloppy - they've missed the tunnel action and walk-out. But here are the teams on the pitch at St. Mary's:
Southampton (4-2-2-2) Gunn; Cedric, Vestergaard, Bednarek, Danso; Hojbjerg, Romeu; Boufal, Ward-Prowse; Ings, Adams.
Substitutes: McCarthy, Yoshida, Stephens, Valery, Armstrong, Long, N’Lundulu
Manchester United (4-2-3-1) De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Young; Pogba, McTominay; Pereira, Mata, James; Rashford.

Referee Mike Dean.
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
Morning, MUR - how are you mate?
They're off from St. Mary's
United wearing their third kit for the first team!
We are off as Soton have five up on the left
And we're away at St. Mary's!
Already, United have given it away in the middle TWICE
Useless pass by Rashford
Doing well, thank you for asking. Glad to be around for the matches.
Not sure how this affects Leeds, but it finished 1-1 between Cardiff and the Cottagers yesterday
I cannot believe the Top of the Table clash is not on Plus!!
Brentford Derby?!?!?!
United are second best so far
First chance for Daniel James to shine - he does well to get to the by-line but Rashford gets clattered.
United go into the box for the first time!
Rashford down hurt.
Looks like arm
A case of McTomain poisoning? McTomain shoots well over and Rash down for United. Rash back up , but Cedric the Entertainer down for the Saints
It's a disgrace. They must have booked that before the beginning of the season.
W-B now just passes to the red shirt!
Saints are trying to hit United early but the United backline coping reasonably well with the pressure. I really like Wan Bisaka.
UNBELIEVABLE BY UNITED AT THE BACK!!!!
Faffing about by United at the back and De Ga rushes to gather the ball ahead of Che Adams
Wonder if the fixtures on Plus were decided several weeks ago with the Swans not expected to be challenging for promotion
United cough it up in midfield and Boufal fizzes a shot just wide.
OH!!!! Long range effort from Boufall just wide
Bristol City vs the Teesiders currently being showed on Plus
That's my thinking about it, MUR. Not fussed. A six-pointer win for us today and I'll be happy.
United are second best all over the place
What a ridiculous pass by Lideloff at the back and then an ATROCIOUS pass by Pogba
A stat that UWS would appreciate. The Announcer said that since the Saints last defeated United that United have won twenty trophies and the Saints have had twenty managers
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
James with a corker!! THREE GOALS ALREADY!
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!! DANIEL JAMES GIVES UNITED THE LEAD WITH A CRACKING SHOT IN THE UPPER 90
Completely against the run of play
GOAL! What a strike from James! Wish it had been in Leeds colors, of course.
United should have beaten Wolves and Palace and the would be top
Saints have another chance from a piss poor pass around the back!
Can James make the same impact that Ronaldo did at United?
The goal started with an errant pass from Danso picked up by Maguire . Several passes later, McTomain poisoned the Saints with a pass to Daniel James for that cracking finish
STOP PASSING SO MUCH AT THE BACK!
I think James can be come a United legend. Lots of potential as shown by the start of his United career.
I agree, UWS - it's driving me crazy.
WOW !!! Three out for three for Daniel James. AMAZING!
Saints boss , Ralph, feeling like Ralph Malf. Sound about right?
Oh - Wan Bissaka was in there but the ball wouldn't come down for him.
A cross from McToamin volleyed over by Obi Wan Bissaka. Star Wars botulism?
Danso not the Fonz as he's booked for pulling back Perreira.
Not Happy Days for Hassenhuttl, eh?
I'd like to see United get more men in the box when they're attacking.
Great effort by James again!
Long range effort from Daniel James straight at the Keeper , but Gunned away
Oh - James tries a pop again but it's beaten away by Gunn.
Totally agree with you Bob
LOL, Bob. Spot on .
Shame that James is Welsh. I'd love to see him lining up for England.
Agreed. I was thinking the Same about James.
United in a good position in this match. They don't have to push it overly, just continue the patient attack, mostly on the break and keep it tight at the back.
United counter and Mata finds Rash down the right and his cross is cleared for a corner
Corner from Yash headed away then a cross from James headed wide by Rash, who had a free header
The flag was already up for offside, but Rashford was well off the mark with that header. I'm still not convinced about Rashford leading the line on his own.
Me neither Bob
Long throw from Danso punched away by De Gea, then after some tussling , JWP is called for hand ball.
Rashford with a great first touch and then a horrible one!
I could see Rash in a strike partnership with a real sniffer type striker, but, like Patrick Bamford, he doesn't finish enough of his chances. And Martial isn't the strike partner for him either.
Mata pulls the trigger from distance. Doesn't mata.
We have guests here this weekend
Probably going to watch Tom coach during the 3 o'clockers
Of course, I'll be able to watch Soccer Saturday on my phone!!(changed our plan so we have unlimited data)
United still giving the ball away in the midfield so many times!
I think James or Kung Fu Panda are better equipped to lead the front line
Who are the guests, mate?
We have unlimited as well. Great choice, UWS
WHAT ARE UNITED DOING!!!
THIS IS PATHETIC!!!!!!
The latest out of St. Mary's is that the Saints team car , the Alpha Romeu ,has been idling in neutral.
Kung Fu doesn't score enough and I like James out wide. You lot need to buy a decent striker in January. That's the missing piece now that The Chunk and Alexis are both gone.
LOL, mate - more like stuck in a ditch.
Not sure who we could get in January. We may need to wait till after the Euros to get that striker.
Dick and Lina's son and his wife from Charlotte
Not sure why NBC are showing Chelsea v. Evil Blades ratther than Citeh v. Brighton today.
Cheers, Bob. Sounds about right. After those blocked shots more like stuck in a road block
Nice. Could you ever see being tempted to move down to NC in your retirement years? I know you like it down there.
I am not impressed with this display at all!
Possibly for part of the year
I have noticed that newly promoted sides are more likely to be shown earlier in the season. That's my guess.
I remember you talking about them , UWS. Hope you all have a great time
Winter place down there, maybe? Avoid the snow?
How about travelling the country in an RV, UWS?
Maguire booked for stomping on Adams. The Dean of officials acting as if it was something from the Addams Family
Ole needs to teach someone how to tie his tie. He looks like a little kid at church.
THIS PASSING!!
GEEZ... Rashford breaks... passes it to...the bloke in the front row
LOL. OGS would not get away with at SUNY Fredonia
A pair of stoppage time minutes
After Jason and Lori leave here...they are off to Niagara Falls and Toronto...then diving back to Charlotte
Bristol City take lead vs Boro
He'd be okay here, mate. I have to admit that my colleagues dress like grad students, the grad students look like they've just come from a Phish concert and the undergrads look like they've rolled out of bed - which they probably have!
The standards are slipping!
This passing again!!!
Mata passes to Pogba surrounded by players... who win the ball
Alpha Romeu drove in on Pogba to win the tackle. Now Saints win a corner
I wear a tie every day
Same dress code where I was teaching
United one up at the half.
Half time... like the score.... HATE the performance
United were winning at Wolves
Half-time, then - although much of it has been frustrating for you lot, as you want them playing better, they're well poised to win this one 0-2 or so.
James already scored as many goals for United in the Prem as Sanchez
Useless free kick by Ashley Young
Danny Wallace in a wheelchair
Back for the second half then. I never understood why Alexis was so poor for United. He scored loads for Arsenal.
He has multiple sclerosis
Oh, that's terrible.
Rashfod with a chance......he's not deadly enough
Oh - Rash was nearly in there but his effort was rebuffed by Gunn.
Does VAR check that it's not a corner if they score
United are third as I type
United need a couple more goals
Back from walkies to see United still one up
Just read the comments. Really sorry to read about Danny Wallace. Played for both these teams if my memory serves me well.
Not sure what the point of Perreira is in this United side. Or McTom. Surely there are some subs coming, but who? Tommy Chong? Tuanzebe, whoever the hell that is?
phew.... Adams hits one wide
Best Saints move of the match. United cough up possession, but thankfully Che Addams slices a shot high and wide.
McTomain did assist today. Time to bring Mason Greenwood,. With Tommy Chong , United's dreams will go up in smoke. Without Wasabe, United will be burned.
Bouffal wins a Saints corner
I don't have good thoughts about this one
I called it!
PATHETIC
DAMN! VESTERGAARD TIES IT UP FOR SAINTS.
Sorry, chaps. Vertergaard equalizes.
TWO HEADERS WON!!
Both on target
PATHETIC
Great save by De Gea off the close range header from Dannuy Ings off the corner then the return cross from Danso was headed in by Vestergaaard due to poor making by Lindelof.
Make some changes Ole.... DON'T WAIT until the 89th minute
Agreed, Dave. Thanks, Bob
I was thinking the same . Time for OGS to ring in the changes. Bring on Mason Greenwood and Chong
Shane Long on for Che Adams, who was finishing more like Gomez.
Shane Long for the last half hour, now, replacing Che Guevara.
Yash heads away a teasing cross for a Saints corner. Hope they don't score off this one
MaGuire heads away the corner from JWP and the dangers ends as United win a free kick
Lindy warming up for United, Time for some changes
Lingard called up for England but falls to the bench...might be coming on
Saints win the ball again as United lose the ball in the midfield
Matic coming on. What's the point in that? We're not playing for a draw , are we?
Matic and Lingard coming on...not exactly positive!
Lindy and Matic coming on for Perreira and Mata now. Good changes.
Lindy for Perreira , who was poor today and one ex Chelsea player for another as it's Mata of Matic coming on. Don't like that defensive minded switch
Absolutely pathetic shot from Matic. Halfway across the English Channel
Not sure why De Gea couldn't have caught that first header.
I THOUGHT GREENWOOD WAS THE STRIKING ANSWER!!
Gomes isn't getting game time either...scored a corker last night for the U23s
Another change from Ralphie and like for like as Stu Armstrong is on for Bouffal
Not familiar with Gomes, but why not give him a chance?
Danso is off! Soton down to ten men.
Second yellow for Danso.... awful foul....he knew it right away!
United won't win this now!
Bring on Greenwood
Saints down to ten men as Danso sent off for a second booking with a horrible challenge on McTomain. Danso knew as he din't even argue the decision.
Nice effort again by James...PUT HIM UP FRONT
The latest from St. Mary's is that Ralphie is ill. Down with a case of McTomain poisoning after that sending off!
No doubt - he's feeling sick as a parrot. United should take full advantage.
Two missed chances from James from Crosses. One back to Obi Wan Bissaka and one inches in front of him
I miss the days of NO SUBS used
Last match....probably ever...that no subs were used in the Premier League
Manchester United vs Fulham at Old Trafford in March 22, 2003
LOL, Bob.At least this parrot is not dead and has not ceased to be
Great anoraking, Dave.Don't see that one changing any time soon.
Another Saints change - Yoshida on for Ings. Ralph is clearly happy with a point then.
Final roll of the dice from Ralph and the ten men will attempt to hold on for a draw as Yoshida on for Danny Ings
DIVE AT THE CROSS RASHFORD!
Woodie's Teesiders have come from behind to lead 1-2 at Ashton Gate . That's not idle gossip.
Ole long about playing Greenwood!
Finally, Greenwood about to come on
Ten minutes and change for United to dig out a win here.
Matic trying a telegraphed pass
Greenwood on for McTom
Not much time for Mason to make a difference
Not happy with OGS
Mason Greenwood on for McToain. That change should have been made a while ago
Weak effort by Rash!
SCORE!
Rash with a shot kicked save by Gunn off a pass from Pogba after Shane Long gifted United possession
Pogba...what kind of control is that!
How many shots have United really had?
The attempt on ball control by Pogba was bollocks
Lingard takes the space... shoots...I don't mind...if you hit the target
Ball goes across the box... no one there to knock it in
A tame shout for a penalty - nothing doing.
Is VAR going to look?
No
I don't think that was a penalty. Greenwood took a tumble going for the ball.
Thankfully United didn't get a pen
Another useless effort by Lingard
Lindy with a weak long range effort curled wide.
Lindy finds himself in a great position. But takes the wrong option - might have played in Pogba.
Bristol City tie it up vs Woodie's Teesiders. Now ZDesmond
Oh - Greenwood pulls a decent save out of Gunn. And United keep coming.
Rashford has been pathetic today
Nice save by Gunn from Greenwood
Now Young tries a curler - not too far away.
Again... no one inside the six to knock it in!
Decent effort by Young
Long range effort from Yash not too far off.
Bednarek heads out a cross for a United corner
TAKE THE CORNER YOUNG!
Useless cross
Bednarek heads away the corner
4 added minutes
GET MEN IN THE BOX!!!!
A Barber Shop Quartet of stoppage time minutes. Hope they sing about a United victory
Stupid hand ball by Lindy
This is NOT good enough
Cedric the entertainer down. Not entertaining.
Yash stupidly talks himself into the book
United to draw here as they did last season?
This clock business is getting ridiculous
I really think they should stop the clock
Stupid foul by James
It's Desmond at Bristol C
There was no contact there for the foul
This again is getting ridiculous
United not showing much urgency
