Sunday at the Beach
Kate and I are planning to have a picnic at the beach later on today. Appropriately, so are City this morning, who travel to the South Coast to meet Bournemouth. Even though it's early doors in the season, this match has high stakes attached to it, given Liverpool's big win over the Arsenal yesterday. Later on, Spurs travel to woeful Newcastle to see if they can make Stevie Bruce's life even more miserable.
Join me for the beach action!

Morning Boys
Not sure how much I am going to be around today but I am here now
Arsenal played at Anfield yesterday so I assume that it is Newcastle that are the ones traveling today
Morning, UWS - great to have you on board even more a little while. How's the knee feeling?
The teams coming out today:
Bournemouth (4-1-4-1): Ramsdale; Smith, Mepham, Cook, Daniels; Aké; King, Lerma, Billing, Fraser; C Wilson
Subs: Boruc, Simpson, Rico, Surman, H Wilson, Ibe, Solanke
Manchester City (4-1-4-1): Ederson; Walker, Laporte, Otamendi, Zinchenko; Gündogan; B Silva, De Bruyne, D Silva, Sterling; Agüero
Subs: Bravo, Angeliño, Rodri, Fernandinho, Mahrez, Cancelo, Foden
Referee: Andre Marriner
NBC are in it for the money now.
They used to be so good but now it is just commercial until the last moment and charging to watch the majority of matches!
Poor form
Spot on, mate - Spurs and Newcastle are playing at the new London Stadium in North London today. My mistake.
Good morning , Bob and Dave. Here to join you for the Cherries vs Citeh
Knee is getting better and better!
Stunning how different is from when I had my left knee done at Lakenheath in 82
They're off from Dean Court
Ashes Update
England lost their captain early this morning and just lost their fifth wicket so...
England are 245 for 5
They need 114 more runs
Glad to read that you are recovering. Didn't realize that you had a knee operation back in'82. Is this one footie related?
Not quite a sticky wicket for England?
Morning, MUR - hoping for a big Bournemouth on the South Coast this morning.
Not quite a wealth of nations for Zinchenko as he was quite by a stray arm from Adam Smith
England's middle order should be able to handle that load.
Cheers, Bob. This would be a massive upset if the Cherries won. Will they be as defensive as they were in March?
Thanks to UWS , we will be able to watch both late matches. One on NBCSN and one on Gold
Raheem Sterling will be wanting to keep up with the Pukkis today by notching one or two against the Cherries.
B Silva hits one just wide... deflected as well
Nice move down the Citeh left and a shot from Bernie Sander's is deflected about an inch wide of the goal
Kyle Walker with a shot deflected for a corner off the corner from KDB
Bernie Sanders wins the ball after two Citeh players headed on the corner
City are bossing this match so far but the Cherries defense is standing strong. I'd take a point here.
I guess it was.. had cartilage problems
It used to click out of place and I could click it back. Then in 10th grade it didn't click back... they put a cast on my leg
Two years later, after my senior year I had the operation
One time, we were kick the ball around behind the Science. building and my knee clicked out of place...what did my mates do....one of them being Bob.... played one-twos off me as I was on the ground!
Pep appears to be trying to start a new fashion trend by wearing his grandfather's white undershirt to the match today.
Walker in the book...two bad tackles already
He could have been off
Kyle Walker booked for a nasty foul on Nathan AKe.
Poor form from Bob back then
BLOODY HELL
England had a run out!!
WHY!!!!!
106 runs needed...no rush!
I do remember that incident behind the science building. We were a harsh and unfeeling lot. I did my ACL several times, too, due to footie. Never had it operated on and I've got my fingers crossed that I won't need a knee replacement in my latter years.
I think England are toast now and the Ashes is gone
I read the thread that was posted. Seems like Bob used one of my beach puns, LOL!
Now Ederson comes out...and gets a yellow
That hurts my fantasy points!
Ederson has a rush of blood to the head and clatters into Wilson. Yellow card for the City keeper.
Why was Ederson so far out .Fouls Cally Wilson by the touchline and booked for that
Ederson punches away the free kick then Nathan Ake blasts over
City go down and score.... boring
Balls - Aguero strokes one home. Easy peasy.
GOAL !!! THEN CITEH GO STRAIGHT UP THE OTHER END OF THE PITCH AND AGUERO GIVES CITEH THE LEAD.
That's three goals for Sergio on the season, one behind Raheem.
What about the Finish Finisher
Pukki has five
Yeah - Pukki is out alone on five.
Straight from the ensuing possession Citeh built from the back then David Silva played the ball wide left to Zinchenko He passed to KDB, whose shot was blocked and Aguero scored with a typically well placed finish
I used Finnish finish yesterday. Best Finnish finisher since Jari Litmanen? Does anyone remember him?
At Headingley...The momentum has gone from Marmite to Vegemite
Since Citeh scored early, they can pass the ball around , making it hard for the Cherries to get the ball back.
Ramsdale does well to save a volley. Cross from Zinchenko, but didn't see who volleyed it
Nice Aussie sandwich terminology, UWS.
They say how hot it is in England. Have they been to South Texas?
The announcer stated that the last time the Cherries even got a draw against Citeh was in their one season stay in the third tier. It was 0-0 and the Cherries center half was none other than Eddie Howe
75 is hot for the UK.
Charlie Daniels down off an awkward fall on a are Cherries attack after he played pass into the box down the left
That's true, Bob, but that's cooler than our morning low this time of the year. I would take that right now
Looks like the country fiddler is going to have to come off.
That's it for Charlie Daniels as he's stretchered off . He will be replaced by the more attack minded Harry Wilson, on loan from Liverpool. He scored last week on his Cherries debut at Villa Park
Charlie Daniels will want to drink some Jack after that injury
Harry Wilson now on for Charlie Daniels
That will add several minutes off stoppage time. Long Cherries throw broke to Nathan Ake and he failed to make the proper contact on a rare Cherries chance
Oh - Adam Smith should have buried that one!
Not Wealth of Nations as Citeh were faffing at the back. A cross from Harry Wilson was chested down from a Citeh defender in the six yard box and Adam Smith blasted over from two yards out. Was awarded as the Cherries first corner of the match , which was caught by Ederson
Not a Wealth of Nations, Bob?
Not at all, mate. Adam got the supply and demand curve all wrong there.
Balls! Raheem gets his goal to keep up with Teemu.
0-2 Citeh!
GOAL!!! STERLING PUTS CITEH TWO UP.
Nice Citeh move from the back from the Port found Bernie Sanders, who past to David Silva and he found Silva , who scored with just Ramsdale to beat
Half a dozen minutes of stoppage time
Bob will not be pleased that the Swans defeated Brum 3-0 earlier this morning, which keeps pace with Leeds.
The match at the Beach results in Cally Wilson winning a free kick at The Port.
Yes! Harry Wilson with a peach of a free kick!
WOW !!! HARRY WILSON CURLS IN A SPECTACULAR FREE KICK TO PULL IT BACK TO 1-2. WHAT A HOME DEBUT AND WHAT A FIRST TWO MATCHES
Only the second Cherries player to score at home to Citeh? WOW!
It makes sense that Harry Wilson scored since he scored the most goals from outside the box in the top four divisions of English footie last season. Both his Cherries goals have been from outside the box.
Aguero heads over off a cross from Bernie Sanders
It's 1-2 at the end of an interesting half. The Cherries are in this match
Half-time: City seemed in total control of this one until that Harry Wilson free kick. Poised nicely for the second half.
Back on at the Vitality for the second half.
Second half underway from Dean Court
The latest on Charlie Daniels is that h has a dislocated knee.
A challenge at the Port from Chris Mepham leaves the Citeh defender down. That looked like really minimal contact
Harry Wilson down off a challenge from Sterling. They may know each other from the Liverpool Academy.
Let's hope that Desmond Tutu is warming up.
Ramsdale saves from David Silva then a cross from Zinchenko results in a shot from Sterling deflected for a corner
That sounds like a long-term injury for the country fiddler.
Agreed, Bob. What did you think of the result earlier this morning?
Agreed. He will have the urge to drink some Jack.
Oh - Callum Wilson was in there but Ederson - inexcusable!
Great close range block by Ederson from Cally Wilson
Thought KDB made it 1-3 as Citeh went straight down the other end of the pitch. KDB played a one two with Kyle Walker and shot about an inch wide
Citeh suddenly really under the cosh and the Cherries smell blood!
Ederson forced to fist away for a Cherries corner
Bournemouth need to make these chances count - they won't get that many!
What's the latest at Headingley, UWS?
Wee Ryan misjudged the bounce and Thomas Jefferson-Lerma fouls KDB on the break for which he is booked.
Haven't read a comment from UWS in a while . He said he would be in and out this morning. This must be an out spell?
Grandpa Pep is about to make a change - Gundogan going off and Rodrigo on.
Like for like as Rodri comes on form Gundogan
No response to the Championship match earlier this morning? Did you see the score.
As I said, I won't be around much today
Just back from walkies and not good news from Leeds
England are 9 wickets down and still need 73 runs
The Ashes is lost
Sorry, mate - I missed that one. Of course, I'm not pleased as the Swans matched us. We're still ahead on goal difference, though.
Citeh counter off a Cherries counter. Great defending by the Cherries in their own box.,
VAR check now for a penalty for Citeh.
VAR is looking at a pen... I don't think the touch brought him down but the ball wasn't touched
No pen
Welcome back, UWS. You will be pleased about my comment at 10:18, which sows I was paying attention.
Agreed, Bob. At least it wasn't a larger margin of victory or else the Swans would be top.
That is not good.
Agreed about the VAR check. Pep grasping at straw at best.
And if the Swans and Leeds want to create some distance with the rest of the pack, that's fine with me.
City get their two goal lead back... all from a Cherry throw in
Balls! Aguero notches his fourth of the season, still a goal behind his mate Raheem and Teemu Pukki.
GOAL !!! AGUERO MAKES IT 1-3. EDDIE HOWE WILL NOT BE PLEASED THAT IT CAME FROM A CHERRIES THROW. HEADED ON TO AGUERO, WHO PLAYED A ONE TWO WITH DAVID SILVA AND BEAT AARON RAMSDALE FROM CLOSE RANGE
Does this put Citeh in second place?
Agreed, Bob. Just as long as Leeds finish in the top two. I think I picked them to be second
That clearance does not receive top Billing as he he's forced to clear for a Citeh corner.
The final rolls of the dice from Adam Smith and two former Liverpool players come on as it's Solanke and Jordon Ibe for Adam Smith and Cally Wilson. One like for like and one an attacking middie for a defender.
With that double substitution, three of the Cherries players on the pitch are from the Liverpool Academy.
That injury does not receive top Billing as Phil is down injured. No substitutions left for Eddie Howe.
It does; Citeh are second with a slightly better GD than Liverpool's - +7.
Play resumes as Phil Billing back up and my Howe that's top Billing for his boss, Eddie.
Spurs have a chance to break back into the top four with a big win over hapless Newcastle.
Pep will say that they would be first of not for that VAR decision vs Spurs. Again, he would be grasping at straws.
It's 87 in London, which is hot by their standards. There may be water breaks, but should be cooler by the second half of that match
I think KDB leads in assists. He got credit for an assist on the first goal because Aguero scored off his blocked shot
BORING BORING CITEH! Just running out the clock.
Like for like as Mahrez is on for Bernie Sanders and my Howe Eddie must feel like it's Weekend at Bernie's
Attendance just under 10,000, which is more like the Abbey than a Prem Stadium. That shows that small clubs can be successful if run properly.
Charlie Daniels on crutches. He can drink Jack claiming it's for medicinal purposes.
Top Billing for Otamendi as he tackles Phil for a corner. The corner from Wee Ryan headed away and Sterling offside on a Citeh counter.
Eddie Howe does the best he can with Bournemouth but they're just not very good.
Solanke shoots straight at Ederson
Decent move from Bournemouth through Solanke who shot straight at Ederson.
They're fun to watch and are punching well above their weight considering their size. They have invested well and wisely.
Otamendi fouls Josh King on a Citeh counter and is booked for that
Joao Cancelo on now for a late cameo just to tick UWS off on a Sunday morning.
I need a cricket update, UWS!
A Barber Shop Quartet of stoppage time minutes as Joao Cancelo, the new signing from Juve on for a Citeh debut for Kyle Walker on the final roll of the dice for Pep.
Is he ticked off about the change a second into stoppage time or the debut?
I've just looked it up - England need 21 runs to win.
OH!!! Great close range block by Ederson from Solanke off a pass from Josh King
Wow - Stokes has just knocked a six! And another two runs. England need 19 to win now.
It's over and a routine 1-3 win for Citeh , who are in second place.
Stokes gets another and England just need 18 now.
COME ON ENGLAND!
Citeh complete a routine win - 1-3 over Bournemouth - at the Vitality.
Stokes and Leach just need to hang around and they'll do it.
Stokes is back up at bat; he seems to be protecting Leach who must be a weaker batsman.
I don't want to follow it and jinx it!
Stokes is Botham-like all rounder
Leach is a #11
Sunday concludes with the Spuds vs the Toon on NBCSN and Wolves vs Burnley on Gold.
HEADINGLEY HEADED for an England Victory! BOOM BOOM!
THIRTEEEN TO GO
SHUT IT MUR!!!!
9 to win
1 wicket left
8
I so wish they had a few wickets in hand.
I am so nervous
2 to win!
Stokes hits a six... just two more!
Aussie's want LBW on Stokes but not given and they have used up all their reviews
HEADINGLEY HEADED...ON THE BRINK!
STILL TWO NEEDED
No ducks permitted!
England have tied it up
ONE RUN TO WIN!
COME ON ENGLAND!
The Ashes can't be lost today!
Still one run needed
ENGLAND HAVE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Series tied at 1
WAY HAY! Well done, England
Great updates.
Stokes... 135 NOT OUT!!
A hero in the World Cup Final and now this!
England need 359 runs to win...second highest run get in the Ashes
UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Water breaks will be in effect in the match at Spurs do the unusual 90 degree weather
I can't wait the highlights on Youtube
WOW ! what a great match by Stokes!
That should be a great watch.
Last wicket was worth 80 odd
Headingley fans singing... You're not singing any more!
BRILLIANT
Leach came in as a Nightwatchman against Ireland earlier in the summer and scored 92 but he is a #11
Today was in for an hour
Faced 17 balls
Scored 1 run!
Stokes, when he first came in, scored about 2 runs from 60 balls. He was just holding down one end
Then he was THE MAN
135 not out... 11 fours 8 sixes
I AM STUNNED
They are off in North London
It is England vs Holland
They're off from the Tater Tot Stadium
Peter Dreary says it's nearly 100 on the pitch. Extremely unusual
LOL, UWS. It can definitely pass for England vs Holland
Thanks to UWS, I'm also watching Wolves vs Burnley and Wolves in control early on
Tom has the second match on as well
No signs of fatigue for Wolves after that Thursday match in Italy, unlike opposing manager , Sean Dyche who used that excuse last season
Both matches are almost carbon copies of each other. Home team in control in both matches.
Just wide by Ashley Barnes on Burnley's first attack of the match . Nice pass from Matty Lowton , who played a one two
The match on Gold about thirty seconds behind the one on NBCSN
The Toon well out of tune on that short free kick.
Barnes puts Burnley one up
GOAL !!!ASHLEY BARNES GIVES BURNLEY THE LEAD WITH A CRACKING FINISH
VAR checking
It is one nil
Poor defending by Wolves off the long ball that was straight to a Burnley player by a Wolves defender then headed to Barnes ,w ho scored with that cracking strike from 25 yards out
Allen St. Maximin appears to have twisted his ankle and that may be it for him. The last thing the tune wanted
Burnley taking their time to take a corner as Chris Atsu on for St. Maximin
How did Burnley not score again
OH! Burnley nearly went two up off the corner. Cross from Dwight McNeil headed by Ben Mee of the bar then Ryan Bennett kneed it and was gathered by Rui Patricio on the line
Perhaps Wolves feeling the effects of the EL. Play the second leg at Molineaux on Thursday
Having played on Monday too
Agreed. A busy schedule . No excuses from Nuno the Saint as there was from Sean Dyche last year
OH!!! Nearly a surprise lead for the Toon. Lloris tipped over a shot from Longstaffe off a pass from Joelinton
Pass from Harry Kane and Abel to win a corner.
Dubravka easily catches the Spursy corner
