When It's Snowing Outside, There's Football on Inside
I've woken up to a foot of snow that dropped on Fred-town overnight. I'll certainly be digging later on today, but for now I'm hiding inside and watching the footer. What's on store? First up is Burnley's trip to Arsenal. Later on we've got Mourinho's Spurs against Pep's Citeh. Join me for all the fun, eh?

An away match against Burnley in early February is exactly the kind of match that Arsenal of old have lost. This will be a test of the new Mikel Arteta Arsenal.
The teams coming out at Turf Moor:
Burnley: Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor; Hendrick, Westwood, Cork, McNeil; Wood, Rodriguez. Subs: Hart, Brady, Pieters, Lennon, Bardsley, Vydra, Long.
Arsenal: Leno; Bellerin, Mustafi, David Luiz, Saka; Guendouzi, Xhaka, Özil; Martinelli, Lacazette, Aubameyang. Subs: Martinez, Sokratis, Ceballos, Torreira, Pepe, Willock, Nketiah.
Commissioner: Chris Kavanagh (Manchester)
Good Morning, Bob. Here to join you on what is the beginning of a lovely South Texas day. perfect weather for visiting.
Morning Bob
I have not Math Geekathon to go to today!
Alas, I do have some things going on that may pry me away from my laptop and TV. I will try and join in when I can
You're bragging and digging out of an INCH of snow...in NYS!
Someone sneezes and we get an inch of snow...and you get it worse than me!
It's going to be a North London vs Northwest of England morning.
They're off from Turf Moor.
And we're away at Turf Moor....
Morning, chaps!
Good Morning, Dave. It must feel good to complete your last ever Math Counts.
So, UWS, when you're at the Math Geekathon, do you feel at home with all of the other math people or are you looking around and saying, "There are a bunch nerds here!"
I couldn't see the telly real well , so I read Lacazette and read that a cross from Aubama from the left was headed wide
I wonder if Dave was like me and thinking of all the footie that is being missed
Charlie Taylor heads out a cross for a Gunners corner
Seeing Charlie Taylor in the Burnley line-up always fries my chaps. I hate Burnley for robbing of his services and those of Chris Woods.
Lots of short passing from a Gunners short corner from the Beaker
Matty Lowton trips Saka for a Gunners free kick
Saka earns a free kick for Arsenal out wide left.
Leeds could use the services of Charlie Taylor at this time especially with the big match at Forest on Saturday , which is on Plus. Kickoff at 12:30 P.M.
Good start for the Arsenal.
I've just looked at my initial post again and I wrote "an inch of snow" had dropped on Fred-town. Of course I meant to write "a foot."
Lovely! I haven't had a good record this season of watching us win on the Plus. But I always enjoy seeing them play.
Kate says "hi" to both of you!
In a top vs bottom battle in the S. P.L. Celtic have just taken a 1-3 lead at George Hamilton with about ten minutes remaining. That will put Celtic seven points clear of Rangers
Did either of you catch any of the USA v. Costa Rico match? I caught the last half hour. Even those we beat the Ticos 1-0, I wasn't that impressed by the US side.
Good morning, Kate. Hope all is well.
I did not watch the match, but based on what I read on FOTMOB it seemed more like a B match than a full international
A foot of snow is quite impressive . It's supposed to be sunny and 78 this afternoon in case anyone wants to visit.
Oh dear - what a miss from Aubama. Should have hit it with his left peg but he clearly didn't favor it.
OH! Nice long ball from Sideshow Bob and Aubama horribly and uncharacteristically miss hit it well wide with just Nick Pope to beat
Chris Wood offside despite an unusual , but effective stop on Jay Leno. That bit of keeping would make the Jay Leno show
That makes more sense... A foot of snow!
While I was at Mathcounts... I was thinking....NERDS!!
I was busy watching Soccer Saturday on my phone and parts of the Borefest at the Theater of Nightmares
Celtic can count themselves lucky to be winning 1-3 at George Hamilton , who have been a man down most of the match. Celtic were losing 1-0 when it as 11 vs 11.
Jay Leno does well to turn around a long range effort from J Rod
LOL! Nice one, UWS!
I can relate to what you are saying, Dave. I felt the same way at the A. P. math conferences.
Oh - Lacazette was in there.
I would think Sean Dyche is not taken seriously by the fourth officials because he's guilty of crying wolf. Does that sound accurate.
I missed that action that was described by Bob , but read about it in La Cazette where last ditch tackle by Tark was mentioned
Oh - from the corner Guendouzzi has a go. Fizzed it past the post.
Since Arteta took over, the Gunners have been draw specialists.
I showed "Revenge of the Nerds" here on campus last year as part of a film series on college life. Most of the students hadn't seen it before - they loved it!
That was a great movie and made around the time we were in college
Saka down for the Gunners. Will he be able to continue?
Looks like he is about to continue
In a bottom vs top meeting, Celtic ended up winning 1-4 at George Hamilton. According to the Academical department, Celtic scored all their goals against ten men.
Shadow has finally won.... I am off for walkies
A powerful long range effort from Dwight McNeil is about a foot over.
Cheers, Dave. Stay warm and enjoy walkies.
Enjoy your walkies, mate!
Almost all of Arsenal’s attacks have come down the left. They’re a little lopsided in that regard, because Martinelli doesn’t really want to be out on the right.
There's another attack down the left to reinforce what Bob stated.
I'm quite surprised that Ozil is still in the Arsenal fold - I would have flogged him for any kind of money in the January transfer window.
Oh - Xhaka picked out Aubama really well but Pope did well to stand up to him.
He might not have any takers because no club is willing to take on his ridiculous salary. The Gunners may need to wait until his contract expires.
The announcer said that was the Gunners first shot on target
A shot from Jeff Hendrick from the edge of the box is just wide.
Dwight McNeil has a long range effort deflected for a Burnley corner
The corner is headed out by Sideshow Bob for another.
Burnley are always a threat from these kinds of set pieces.
Tark heads over a cross after several blocked shots from the Burnley corner
The Beaker with a lazy bit of defending as evidenced by that trip on Dwight McNeil.
Another free kick in now and that flicked header could have gone anywhere!
J Rod heads wide from the Free kick. The replay shows that Xakha Khan headed out , but a goal kick is given instead of a corner
He really is dumb. The Gooner will be glad to see the back of him
Better from Burnley in the last ten minutes but they're so predictable just swinging long balls into the big boys.
Burnley about to go eight consecutive Prem matches at Turf Moor without scoring in the first half. They are a second half team
A minute of stoppage time.
It's 0-0 at the half at Turf Moor with this match in the balance.
The half-time whistle goes and it's honors even. Neither side will be that happy with that.
Arteta makes a halftime change as Torreira comes on . Not sure who he replacd
The second half is underway from Turf Moor.
He's on on for injured Saka and on to add steel to the midfield and to combat Burnley's physical tactics.
Back for the second half with a bowl of oatmeal courtesy of Kate.
Juve remain top of Serie A , defeating Fiorentina 3-0 thanks to a pair of penalties from Skippy.Sounds suspicious.
It will be interesting to see how Burnley try to take advantage of Arsenal's reshuffle. Xhaka Khan isn't used to playing at right half.
Sounds like a hearty breakfast and perfect for the weather you are experiencing.
Kate is worried that Sean Dyche is going to choke himself on his chewing gum while he's yelling at his players.
I am back from walkies and trying to AXE ice off the top of the pooo!!
I felt like David Luis out there.....I was hacking everything
Welcome back, Dave. Great to see you have a great sense of humor after being out in the frigid conditions.
Bob. Tell Kate that if Sean Dyche chokes then the fourth officials will be dealing with far less whining!
Xakha Khan singing the blues after being booked for a nasty challenge
Tark heads the whipped in free kick from Ashley Westwood well wide.
Here is some info from the statto. Not a single first half goal has been scored in a match we have watched this weekend
Free kick chance for Burnley
I'll pass that on to Kate. Welcome back, Mr. Dogwalker!
Torreira booked for a nasty foul on Charlie Taylor. No sympathy from Bob.
Any snow out East, UWS?
Met at front post... not on target
No sympathy at all - Charlie should still be a White. We raised him.
The free kick from Ashley Westwood headed wide by J Rod as he and Ben Mee went for the same ball.
Cheers, Bob. That's key information.
Burnley with another header....wide
Just a coating
OH! The closest either team has come to scoring as a cross from Dwight McNeil is headed inches wide by Jeff Hendrick.
sounds like someone sneezed on all the lawns in ENY.
The Beaker wins a corner off of Ben Mee of a run and pass from Aubama.
A wasted short corner from the Gunners
Clumsy by Bellerin on Charlie Taylor. and again no sympathy from Bob.
The largely ineffective Beaker replaced by Joe Willock and a little less pouting than normal.
More whining from Sean Dyche and off a correct refereeing decision.
It's about time that Ozil went off - I'd never play him. He's got a rotten attitude.
Interesting point from the commentator. Apparently Arteta, who was a defensive middle by trade, has shored up the Arsenal defense but their attacking edge has dulled under his leadership.
I'm sure the Gooner and Simon would agree with you about the Beaker.
Sorry to bring up a rotten subject.....but how can Leeds lose at home to Wigan two seasons in a row!
Arteta's tactics are largely responsible as to why they have drawn almost every match since he took over. This one going to form.
That's a good point , UWS. Yesterday Leeds dominated , but were frustrated in front of goal then against the run of play Wigan scored with a miss hit deflected effort.
Oh - yeah - Gooner definitely wants to get rid. He's also worried that Simon's love for Arsenal is waning. When Simon was in England recently, he went to Watford matches (Watford is the closest Prem side to his family) and was wearing Watford gear in lots of pictures.
Play stopped on what looked a clash of heads. Not sure who is down for the Gunners
Looks like Sideshow Bob, who took two massive hits from the Pope.
David Luis should be out... how is he okay!
Hit in the head with a hip and then a butt
Not sure if Simon is getting much joy from watching the Hornets even though they have improved recently.
Sliced horribly wide by Bellerin
That was really stupid. We've done that so many times this season. Whenever we fail to score by around the hour mark, I always worry that we're going to concede a freak goal. More irritating. After Pablo Hernandez had deflected the ball in for the goal that we gave up, he was still going out toward the corner kick to try and block it again. He didn't learn! He's the smallest player on the pitch - what's he going to do! Grrrr!
Oh - Aubama with a free header now - put it wide! Is he Patrick Bamford in disguise?
Aubum goes close for the Arse
Just wide with a header
OH! The closest the Gunners have come to scoring as Aubama heads a cross just wide.
Aubama may be a little rusty since serving that suspension.
I sympathize with Simon because I think he and his family also support Stevenage , who look likely to be relegated from the Football League this season.
Off the crossbar and down...watch says no goal!
See how instantaneous that was... why couldn't offside be like that
OH! J ROD HAS SHOT FROM THREE YARDS OUT CRASH OFF THE UNDERSIDE OFF THE BAR AND JUST FAIL TO CROSS THE LINE AFTER DWIGHT MCNEIL HEADED ON A CROSS.
Yes, the family lives in Stevenage. Obviously supporting them is no fun these days.
Ten minutes for these sides to break the deadlock.
Agreed. Var should be close to being that instantaneous.
If they think VAR is going to stay for offide they have to change it!
Say offside is based on torso like olympic races... have them were something on their chest....they all wear bras now anyway
Of course, there is still....when is the ball released from the passer
It appears that on goal will decide this match as Tark is the first Burnley player booked, for a nasty foul on Joe Willock
I just made that up on the spot!
Thought the Gazette was going to score there
I have a quiz question for Bob and Dave. What current Prem club is the closest geographically to Carrow Road.
London Stadium?
I read in La Cazette about Eddie coming on for a late cameo for the Gunners
No, but you are close.
Into stoppage time. An LOB blogging trio of that
J Rod getting lecture from Brett Kavanaugh.
Bob must be snickering as Charlie Taylor runs the ball out of play
sure seems it would be LS....just drove from Cambridge and went straight by it...in an hour
It's one of the closest, but the nearest one is slightly closer.
Ends nil nil at TM
It finishes 0-0 and yet another draw for the Gunners
Spurs?
Really poor result there for the Arsenal. I'm off to the shower.
Well done, UWS. You are correct. I was surprised when I heard that a few days ago, but I checked. I think it beats out the EM, the London Stadium, VR, and the KP, but just a few miles.
They're off from SFL 2.0
It's Spurs vs Citeh , which is Jose vs Pep, which is the marquee match of the weekend
Spurs will move up to fifth win .
game started NEAR Carrow Road
I am off soon though
I'm back from a refreshing shower for the late one. Hoping for some goals - I'm a bit goal starved this morning.
The ref in this match is the Dean of Prem officials.
Nice one, UWS.I was just as surprised as you when I learned that.
The Spurs stadium must just be barely in London, just about in Hertfordshire or Essex. I'm guessing Hertfordshire.
Welcome back, Bob and Dave
The teams for what they're worth:
Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris, Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Tanganga, Winks, Lo Celso, Bergwijn, Alli, Son, Lucas Moura. Subs: Vertonghen, Lamela, Dier, Sessegnon, Gazzaniga, Ndombele, Fernandes.
Man City: Ederson, Walker, Fernandinho, Otamendi, Zinchenko, De Bruyne, Rodri, Gundogan, Mahrez, Aguero, Sterling. Subs: Bravo, Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, Silva, Joao Cancelo, Foden, Garcia.
Referee: Mike Dean.
Sunshine considers the Canaries as rivals. Bob and Dave think that's for the birds!
As far as I know the first top flight season that Spurs were the Canaries local rivals was the 2004-2005 season. Prior to that it would have been either the Tractor Boys or Hatters
Sorry I missed the quiz question. I would have got that one right, as our family used to visit Shite Fart quite a way and I think the reason is that it was the shortest and easiest trip for my Dad.
Shortest London trip? I remembered passing it on the way to Heathrow if it was in a residential area.
VAR check now on a red card for Raheem Sterling. He did go in over the top. No red card is the decision.
I was away for a few seconds and VAR checking for a red card. Delle Alli sandwiched on a less than Sterling challenge?
Sorry it was the other way around. Zinchenko reckless as well.
There would be several Football Leagues clubs north of the city that would be closer to East Anglia - Luton, for example.
Still surprised that Spurs are their local derby, but that's a sign of the times for East Anglian footie.
It's been 24 hours since we've seen a goal in a match we've watched. All scored in the second half yesterday
I haven't seen any!!
First game was 2-2
Was Liverpool the second game?
The imbalance of club and geography representation is an interesting topic. There is obviously an over-representation of London and the Manchester-Liverpool area of the Northwest, for instance. Birmingham is the second largest city in the country and yet only have Wolves and Villa to show for it this season (and there have been plenty of seasons of no reps at all). Leeds is the third largest city - it's a one-club city currently in the Champ. I could go on.
Agreed, UWS - I'm totally goal-starved.
Yes it was and all those were scored in the second half
The imbalance has been more noticeable since the Prem era, or so it seems.
Citeh win a corner,
Have we ever gone a whole weekend without seeing a first half goal since being on the LOB? I know we have come close a few times.
Probably. I can't remember for sure, though.
I can't get my geography straight with London. I know when we went to my aunt and uncle's house we went thru Stratford(where LS is). After the Blackwall Tunne, we went close to Upton Park and the Valley
I thought North London was miles away!
Aurier with more assist than Delle Alli and more tackles than Toby. That says it all.
OH!! Off the Sunday Roast from Aguero on a Sunday afternoon as Spurs were almost punished for faffing about at the back.
Oh - off the Sunday Roast from Aguero. Jamie Vardy drawing a heavy sigh of relief.
Totteham is a lot more north than I thought... and farther away from Arsenal than I though
Interesting geography , Bob and Dave. I thought it would take longer to get to these stadiums due to the notorious London traffic.
It is so quick from East Anglia to London
I'm not too knowledgeable about London geography, but think Tottenham is near Enfield, which is near where London Herts. , and Essex all meet according to the wall map in front of me.
The roads must be much better than when we were students at LHS.
Kyle Walker booked for obstructing Lucas Moura against his former club
As I remember, the traffic only got busy once you got past Hampstead into the inner London area. As I remember, we'd drop my mom off at the big Brent Cross shopping center for the day and she'd shop with our family friends Len and Geoff and then we'd drive on to the Seven Sisters tube stop, park there and walk along the Seven Sisters Road to the ground. Easy peasy. UWS came with us on at least one occasion.
Aurier trips Aguero in the box, but the Dean of officials waves it away because he doesn't want us to see any first half goals this weekend
I'm not to familiar with the geography, but sounds like London NW.
Oh my - penalty for Citeh!
The right decision, IMHO. Aurier hacked Aguero. Stupid challenge.
PENALTY TO CITEH AND THIS TIME THE DEAN OF OFFICIALS CALLS AURIER FOR A TRIP ON AGUERO. DID HE READ MY COMMENT? VAR CHECKING
Saved by Lloris!
But then Sterling went over Lloris and it's another penalty!
Wow - what drama.
It's a penalty.
GUNDOGAN TAKES AND IT'S SAVED BY LLORIS AND IT'S ANOTHER CITEH PENALTY.LLORIS IS CALLED FOR A FOUL ON STERLING . VAR TO CHECK. A FIGHT BREAKS OUT AS SPURS PLAYERS THOUGHT HE WENT DOWN TOO EASILY. VAR AGREES AS IT'S NO PENALTY
No penalty! Wow - that looked a decent shout for a pen. Mourinho wants Raheem booked now.
The yellow card is out. It should be for sterling. If it wasn't a foul then he dove.
Toby booked for his role in the fracar.
Toby gets a yellow as well as Zinchenko - so those are obviously the ones for the pushing and shoving.
I don't know if Sterling was booked, but Jose has a point. If it wasn't a foul it must have been a dive.
That seems to be the case, Bob. Not sure how Sterling escaped a booking.
Penalty should have been retaken because Lloris was off his line when it was taken.
A Barber shop quartet of stoppage time minutes
Aguero with a close range effort blocked off a run and pass from Sterling off a pass from Mahrez then aguero has a shot land in the side netting from a yard out
It's 0-0 at the half . Citeh with most of the scoring chances and even missed a penalty.
The second half is underway from SFL 2.0 on Ground Hog Day
