The Rams vs United on Thursday Night FA Cup Fifth Round Footie
In their infinite wisdom , the suits at the FA decided to have the Fifth Round matches played during the course of four weekdays. The final match of the Round is at Pride Park as the only team below the Prem that remains in the Cup is the Rams. They host United on Plus with the winner facing the Canaries at Carrow Road in the quarterfinals on the weekend of March 21st. Join me to see if United will advance , which will mean that the quarterfinals would be an all Prem affair.

HIya, boys - hoping to join you to see United thrash Wazza and co!
Plus coverage has just started....
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
Winner travels to Carrow Road in the next round.... come on!
United have been drawn away from home in every round of the Cup.... same as 1990.... who won the Cup that year? Who won the League that year?
Just saying
Is Rooney going to by too hyped for this one?
Do a Gazza in the Cup Final in 91?
Link just buggered off on my Apple TV
Knock it off!
Show is starting proper....the other stuff was just in the ground for kickabouts
Maguire out with an ankle knock in training...hope he's okay
Pogba is back in training next week.... will he play for United?
United made some changes but that was expected.... but... Derby don't put out strongest line up... why the hell not!!
Resting for what?
Foreign manager at work!
Teams in the tunnel
Mata is United's captain and of course Waza is Derby's captain
Roon came and said hello to Rio who is working telly today
Here come the teams
Last Cup game these sides played was last season's League Cup...Rams won at Old Trafford
Last time they met in the FA Cup...United won at Pride Park on their way to winning the Cup in 2016... Rooney scored in that match
Roon said he was going to celebrate...so he should
He said he wasn't going to exchange shirts...he's got plenty of United shirts
Good Afternoon, Dave. Here to join you for the Cup tie.
Good Afternoon, Bob.
Rooney is talking in the huddle and we are about to get going
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
We are off
They're off from Pride Park
Both teams wearing their traditional kits
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
Play like you did against Tranmere please....score soon and often
Great to see that. No need for bizarre away kits.
YEAH!!
NO VAR TONIGHT
Of course, VAR has been United's MVP over the last few games
Helped us out v Chelsea, Watford and Everton!
Agreed. Would love for us to thrash Roon and Co.
Afternoon David and Bob
United have some possession but have done NOTHING with it
The Rams break, but for fortunately, they didn't get it right in the United box.
Derby break first...United struggle to get the ball out a couple of times
Not sure whether no VAR will help or hinder United
Too much passing by United
Derby seem to want to go forward with the ball whenever they can
Too slow by United
Corner to United
We'e looking at the possibility of all top flight clubs in the quarters . that is really rare. Wonder if it's been a while since that happened.
No Var will help me out
Useless front post corner... don't like how United have started.... seem to be disinterested
Roon slide tackles McTomain for a United corner that is cleared, preventing an outbreak for the Rams
United cannot take this tie for granted. Citeh and the Foxes struggled to get past mid table Championship teams.
Well done by Ighalo defensively
I just read Dave's post about 1990. 2020 could very well be a repeat of 1990 other than the League Cup
Still nothing in the attack for United... almost 10 min!
The Baseball Ground looks a good deal less muddy than it used to in the 70s! ;-)
OGS's coat has the United logos, but is wearing the opposition's colors.
Struth... I thought that was in!
Derby more dangerous than United
OH!A chance for the Rams as a long range effort from Sibley is not too far wide off a run and pass from Tom Lawrence
Too much passing by United
The match is at Pride Park, which is a much more modern stadium than the old Baseball Ground
Especially because it's not the Baseball Ground either
I remember those pitches...I miss them really
Those muddy pitches made for some interesting matches.United's tactics wouldn't work on those pitches
Again, United passing just to pass!
OGS has said that his teams goes sideways and backward too much
MAKE THEM CHANGE THEN!!
According to Wikipedia, the Baseball Ground closed in 1997, the year that pride Park opened.
United finally have a good touch inside the box
Corner off a Shaw cross...please beat the first man!!
Evans Shaw does cut out a pass for a United corner off a pass from Ighalo. The corner is cleared
Training ground stuff...doesn't come off
Bruno Fernandes with a shot deflected for a corner.
Bruno with a shot... deflected for a corner
COME ON!!
I miss the old grounds. At least we still have Old Trafford and the sacred Elland Road.
Corner cleared....Derby breaks...stupid foul by Shaw there was cover!
Rooney chance?
Sibley is a handful for the United defenders tonight.
No way Rooney won't shoot!
Sibley leads a Rams counter after the corner from Bruno was headed away . It Shaw did result in a United booking despite Sibley being out numbered three to one.
Up comes Waza.....great effort and saved by Romero
United with a chance to break... pathetic
Wazza with a the free kick - comes to nothing.
OH!!! Roon nearly comes back to haunt United . His free kick was acrobatically turned around by Romero
Lost my coverage....got it back
United into the box... TOO MUCH PASSING.. NOT ENOUGH PLAYERS IN THE BOX
Attacking doesn't Mata if the passing is poor. Bruno tackled by Martyn Waghorn
United have a chance in the box.... cleared...bugger
Great cross by Bruno , but too much fumbling about by two United players
The Rams break off a Mata of poor United passing.
Bruno down hurt...hope he's okay
Bruno down off an awkward all in challenge with Forsyth. He's the last player United would want to lose to injury
He seems to be okay as play resumes
I don't think Rooney has earned even a draw against United his career. He said the closest he came when he was a Toffee in his younger days
Three nil down... made it 3-3 but Ruud scored the winner
Forsyth cuts out a cross from Ighalo for a United corner
Atrocious corner by Mata... I JUST DON'T GET IT!
I remember that match. Not sure if that's the one that finished 3-5 or if that was a different match
Mata doesn't shoot the first time and then he did the second...not very dangerous
I'm off to pick up Jacquelyn from class. Should be back a few minutes before halftime.
The 5-3 was at WHL
United 3-0 down at half
This match at Goodison, United were 3-0 up
United should have taken the lead!
Im watching it right now
Saha one nil
Ruud two nil
Saha three nil
Less than 30 minutes in
Second half
Unsworth 1-3
Ferguson 2-3
Kiliban 3-3
Ruud 3-4....88th min
GOAL! Luke Shaw is the unlikely scorer of the opening goal. Well done!
Lingard with a chance to shoot... doesn't
SHAW SCORES!!
Useless effort... bounced it on the ground.... a bouncer from fast bowler
Lingard makes a move and goes into the box but stops and goes backwards
McTom with a chance.. bugger
Lawrence down hurt from a shot by McTom
Did they say it went off of Lingard
PL is stopping handshakes at the beginning of matches because of the Coronavirus
United want a handball...no VAR
I don't mind Ighalo
WAY HAY! IGHALO PUTS UNITED TWO UP
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IGHALO!!!!
Shaw sets up him up... COME ON... I WANT MORE!
We're coming after you Canaries...where are you Stef!
GOAL! Shaw finds Ighalo and he rides his luck to add #2. Derby are up against it!
oops...you're home.
Just sent you a text
iT sHAW WAS A GREAT RUN AND PASS FOR AN ASSIST OF iGHALO'S GOAL
You have to say that United have taken full advantage of the January transfer window - what a turnaround for you lot! You look like a brand new side.
He scored just as I was sitting down
Agreed, Bob. Those have two signings have turned out better than expected
So far...United FA CUP
United....3.5 games.... goals scored 9... goals conceded 0
I had the match on my phone while driving. I Shaw did see the first goal while stopped at a red light
Lawrence off after the kick in the Achilles by McTom..who comes over to console him as he goes off
Nineteen year old Morgan Whittaker on for Tom Lawrence, who caught a case of McToamin poisoning in a challenge. That's a massive loss for the Rams
Viva Ighalo, Viva Ighalo... sing the United fans
Two goals in two starts for United
That's a great stat, Dave. Long may that continue at Carrow Road.
Rams, Canaries, etc. Those animals! Will all get thrashed by United
Into an LOB blogging trio of stoppage time minutes
The Rams home may be at Pride Park, but United have knocked that out of the Rams
United struggle to clear a Rams attack in their box, but somehow do
Derby go close
Rooney gets a yellow for a foul
Roon booked against the club he long served
Don't concede before half time!
HT ... so far so good!
United after a poor start firmly in control, two up at the half at Pride Park
Half-time - The new look United completely bossing it.
So... hope I'm not commenting too soon but the Quarter Finals
are as follows
Sheffield United vs Arsenal
Newcastle United vs Manchester City
Norwich vs Manchester United
Leicester City vs Chelsea
As MUR stated, and all Prem slate...when did that last happen!
I'll take the Blades, Magpies, Red Devils and Foxes in the Semis
I'll beat the Blades in the semi and beat the Foxes in the Final
I agree. That would be a great draw and surely leaves us in with a great chance of lifting the Cup
1990- 2020
3rd Round Forest A Wolves A
4th Round Hereford A Tranmere A
5th Round Newcastle A Derby A
6th Round Sheffield Utd A Sheffield Utd A
Semi Oldham ?
Final Palace ?
League Liverpool.... Liverpool?
Back for the second half and a long range effort from Bird deflects off of Lindelof and straight to Romero
I'd love to see you lot put another two or three past this lot.
Sounds like a good sign for us to lift the Cup this year based on the 1990 comparison
Struth... Derby almost score...phew
KNOCK IT OFF
Oh - Waghorn close to getting one back. Just a whisker wide of Romero's post.
Cheers, Bob. Thanks for your support. It would be great to do to the Rams what we did to Tranny
OH! A cross from Bogle is headed just wide by Martyn Waghorn
Only three Prem matches will take place the weekend of the quarters due to cup matches. Why schedule Prem matches the weekend of the quarters?
Forest top league... Wolves top league
Hereford 4th tier.... Tranmere 3rd
Newcastle 2nd... Derby 2nd
Shef U 2... Shef U 1st
BTW... who won the second tier in 1990?
Sibley with an agricultural challenge and kick out on McTomain. No need for that
Don't give the Rams a sniff
Bob knows who won the second tier in 1990
Where was United's left back!!!
He had acres of space
COME ON UNITED... please stop this
I do indeed!
Shaw with a nice run...useless effort!!
Top Tier Liverpool
Second Tier Leeds
FA CUP Man United
History repeating itself 30 years later
Great comparison to the 1990 Cup, but I think we face the Canaries in the quarters this year providing we win today
What do you guys think will happen to Eric Dier?
Is it Cantona-like?
A great chance for that 19990 repeat. The probability of that happening must be extremely low.
oops...my bad... typo!
Wrong pass by Mata on that break...went out left when he should have gone right
I'm not sure about Eric Dier.. Doesn't sound like he did any Kung Fu. Just trying to protect his brother. Probably a ban of a few matches. Disgraceful from the Spurs fans
That Shaw was a decent kick save from Roos.
No probs, Dave. It's definitely great anoraking from you.
That's another poor challenge from Sibley. This time on Fred. He's due a booking.
United fans singing.... I think they're singing about Rooney
Bailly in the book
Come on United.... just settle down and score a third
Sibley getting a taste of his own medicine, and doesn't like it. Serves him right. That medicine is NOT a cure for McToamin poisoning.
More hand bags between McTomain and Sibley
United break... Mata passes to Bruno...SHOOT...passes it back to Mata....who didn't want it
Great sweeper keeping as Roos rushes out of the box to head clear then nearly beaten by a long range chip from Mata
Bruno coming off for Periera
Great to see a full stadium at Pride Park , unlike Hillsborough, which was only half full for a visit by the League champs. I guess that's only for semis.
Perreira well over with his first attempt.
I don't like the changes....on goal from Derby and it could be all on again...why not score a third then change
Weak effort from the sub
OGS must feel that this tie is done and dusted if he's putting on Perreira.
YES!!!
Ighalo has a shot saved off the line but nets on his second attempt!
YES!!
Nice finish.... I really like him
Get a hat-trick!!
WAY HAY IGHALO AT THE DOUBLE AS HE PUTS UNITED THREE UP AFTER HIS FIRST ATTEMPT WAS BLOCKED.IT WAS A MATA OF THE ONE TWO HE PLAYED THAT RESULTED IN THE GOAL
United's scoring in the Cup...10-0
Wahay! I'm just back from helping a student and Ighalo has notched his brace. Wow! 0-3!
If Ighalo continues scoring like this than the current starter in his position may be karate chopped to the subs bench
Kung Fu Panda getting stripped off now and I'm off to class. Enjoy the rest of the match, gents!
Ighalo goes on a run and passes back to Mata , who blasts a shot well over.
Ighalo had a chance for hat-trick...passes it back for Mata...Mata almost hits....the corner flag
Take care Bob....bloody JOBS
Cheers, Bob. Great chatting with you. Have a great class and look forward to chatting this weekend
Martial on for Fred
Fred has really improved in my book
Fred is karate chopped off the pitch and why not as United are three up
Forest vs Millwall tomorrow night
Let's go Lions!
Agreed. Fred is a much better player than last season.
I second that about the Lions. Is Leeds on Plus this weekend?
I have my last ever Observation tomorrow... I do have a drop in later in the moth but this is the last official one...wonder if I am going to be graded as Developing
No it is Swans vs Baggies for the 3 o'clockers
Bristol C and Fulham will be in the early game
Derby go very close again
Nice pass by Rooney and Courtyard by Marriott hits one on target saved by Romero
OH!! Romero does well to turn around a shot from Jack Marriott of a run and pass from Roon.
Roon wins a tussle with Lindy
Congratulations, Dave. Delighted for you. It sounds like you're heading for the final stretch after tomorrow. I was graded the equivalent of developing on my final evaluation by a spiteful appraiser.
Thanks for the update. Bristol City vs the Cottagers will be an important match from a Leeds point of view.
williams on for shaw
Lindy hits one just wide
Like for Like as Brandon Williams Shaw does come on as a United sub.The Rams counter by bringing on Scottish international, Graeme Shinnie for the thuggish Louie Sibley
Not that good of an effort
He has really fallen since his WC exploits in Russia
9 matches undefeated.... but City up next
Lindy goes on a run and is fouled by Max Bird.
A long range effort from Perreira is just wide
APPR is such a pointless exercise
United in a great run of form. The Manc Derby will be a real test for us. For once Pool fans will be rooting for United
It's the same in Texas. These evaluations are really useless.
Lindy has really dipped ion form since the arrival of OGS.Lindy's last goal was in OGS's first match in charge of United
Roon has a long range effort land in Row T. More of the same please
Bogel might as well play boggle after running the ball out of play
Ighalo...chance for hat-trick...great first touch...wild shot
Ighalo scoops a shot over off a pass from Lindy. Should have completed a hat-trick.
There will be three added minutes
Free kick chance for Rooney
McTomain with a stupid foul on Knight just outside the United box.
Into stoppage time
Quite away out ... great effort...saved!
Romero does well to tip over the free kick from Roon
United fans singing if Rooney scores we are on the pitch
Brandon Williams booked for a foul from behind
Stupid foul by Williams
Stupid yellow card
BE SMART
That is it....United are in the QUARTERS!!
It's over and United win 0-3 . They play at Carrow Road in the quarters.,
Take care David
Talk to you later in the week
TTFN
Great chatting , Dave. Have a great rest of the week and look forward to chatting this weekend.
CHEERS!
