The Promotion Race Heats Up!
Happy Hump Day, everyone! It's another big night in the Champions League and, more importantly, the Championship promotion race. The marquee match-up tonight is undoubtedly Pep Guardiola's lot traveling to Spain to meet Real Madrid.
But my eyes will be firmly on the events unspooling at the Riverside where my beloved Leeds United will be taking on Boro. It's another step toward securing automatic promotion to the promised land of the Premier League. We need three points to keep up with West Brom and add some distance between us and the trailing pack. Come on, you Leeds boys! #MOT!

Good Afternoon, Bob.
COME ON LEEDS!
MOT!
BEAT WOODIE'S LADS!
Afternoon, mate - cheers!
Team news out of the Riverside tonight. The main change is Berardi in for the injured Kal Phillips:
Kiko, Ayling, White, Coop, Dallas, Berardi, Klich, Harrison, Helder, Pablo, Patrick.
Subs: Meslier, Casey, Alioski, Douglas, Shackleton, Stevens, Tyler.
Hopefully, Berardi does the business. Otherwise, we should be confident about Leeds's chances.
Audio for two matches today, both of interest to Leeds fans. The Teesiders vs Leeds and the Cottagers vs the Swans both on audio
Yeah - I've got the FotMob audio blasting in the office this afternoon. We're on the Plus early Saturday for the one against Hull.
Of course we'll also need some help from the Swans as they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage.
I will be on the road Saturday, but may be around for the first half of the match from the K.C.
Almost set to go now at the Riverside. Come on, you Leeds!
That great hospitality from you and Kate should help the Swans.
I have the audio from the Riverside as well. They mentioned Leeds thrashing the Teesiders 4-0 at ER earlier this season. These announcers seem to be pro Teesiders
A couple of familiar faces in the Boro line-up tonight. Jonny Howson is one of the LUFC Academy gems that we allowed to get away. He was at Norwich for a few seasons but has now washed up at Boro.
And old friend Adam Clayton, who served us well as an attacking midfielder, will be in the hunt tonight. And of course as you mentioned Jonathan Woodgate, an Elland Road titan, is the Boro manager.
They mentioned that Woodie is one loss away from the sack. I'm surprised he's still in charge
Early chance for Boro but Coop did well to break it up.
At one point, I thought he might be an option for us as manager, but of course I'm much happier with Marcelo in charge at Elland Road.
Howson and Clayton never reached the heights their early potential suggested
Agreed. Woodie probably would have been a disaster at ER and Leeds have had enough of those as is
They said Woodie was a success at Real. I thought he was a disaster
Shotten gives Patrick a reminder that he's not a popular man around the Riverside any more.
He was a disaster. I think he was injured when he moved there and never quite fit in.
Earlier today Rangers won 0-1 at Braga to go through 4-2 on aggregate to the final sixteen in the EL.
Agreed. Bamford should expect a hostile reception this evening
Real vs Citeh is on TNT.
TNT with the same split screen as NBC. Don't like it.
After an entertaining start it's become scrappy at the Riverside
They're off from the Bernabeu.
An Ayling cross is headed by Bamford. They said it was in target and a suspicion of offside
Hi Guys
Im listening to Leeds on Fotmob, Talksport around the grounds on the computer and the CL on the Telly
Skipped out of work a tad early
COME ON LEEDS
First real chance for us there, as Harrison plays a ball in for Patrick to attack. Some suspicion of offside but he got his header on target.
Did you get men text about Jon Bonjovi?
Former Leeds player , Adam Clayton guilty of a cynical foul, but gets away with it
Talksport based at Bob and Kate's
Good Afternoon, Dave. Well done. Yes I just read your text. That's fantastic
Talksport based on Bob's comfy chair.
Scrappy start at the Bernabeu.
Hiya, UWS! Great to have you on board. How's your day been? Didn't see the text about JBJ. I'll have a look.
Swansea should have had a pen but not given
How have you been, Dave?
Radio talking about JBJ right now
Lewis Wing had a great chance to score for Boro , but fluffed his lines
Long first week back
Taking niece down to the City as she flies back to Blighty
The commentators describing the Boro defense as The Keystone Kops. I hope that we can take advantage of it. Come on!
No goals anywhere
Dave, yo're almost there. Glad you are about to cross the finish line
Agreed, Bob. As the match progresses, there should be chances for Leeds.
Pep will be asked to put a coat on soon...he's wearing all black like his team
Of course, Light blue clashes with white
That's a while to go as close to half an hour has been played in the Championship matches.
Agreed, Dave. They should be able to tell the difference between blue and white.
Long range effort from Varane for Real lands in Row Q
The announcer accidentally called the Teesiders Muddlesboro then said they might as well be.
Still no goals anywhere, half an hour in. Not good value for the punters.
Bamford missed from 2 yards!
Bloody hell! Patrick only had to toe poke it in and he thumped it over the bar instead. He'll be the death of me this season.
Shadow would be more clinical than Patrick, eh Dave?
JBJ to keep his game check
BIGGER! LEEDS SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD. HELDER COSTA WITH A SHOT SAVED FROM PEARS.HOW DO YOU NOT SCORE FROM THERE? GREAT PASS FROM DALLAS AND GREAT CROSS FROM JACK HARRISON
He would have knocked it in with his tail
Sparky would have put that away. Mine, not Hughes
On the recap, it sounds like it was Helder rather than Patrick who missed the sitter.
Jesus with a chance...saved
Still blame Patstink Bamsuck
Citeh nearly took the lead. Jesus cut in and his shot was well saved by the Courtly keeper.
LOL, Dave! Sparky does have a long tail and could very well have scored that way.
Pears with another save for the Teesiders as Leeds starts to put on the pressure.
English sides so far in the CL knockout stages
Games 3 1/4
Lossess 3
Goals 0
Conceded 4
Pears with a near post save from Bamford.
First goal of the night for Wigan at Reading
Wigan takes the lead at the Mad Stad
That's a very poor record for the Prem clubs after a superb record last season. They're doing much better in the E.L.
Barnsley takes the lead at the K.C.
Another away team takes the lead
Barnsley at Hull
The two goals scored have come from teams in the drop zone.
Benny almost give Real the lead... great save by Ederson... replay couldn't be buried
for some reason my audio is not working. It's nearly halftime. Now it is.
Yeah - poor show in the CL, but great stuff in the EL.
Why isn't Bale playing
LaPorte about to come off for City
The audio has been buffering
Lyon take lead at home to Juve
Mine as been fine
LaPorte getting a stretcher
YES!!!!!
LEEDS TAKE THE LEAD after hitting inside of post
GOAL !!! KLICH GIVES LEEDS THE LEAD AFTER A SHOT FROM JACK HARRISON CAME OFF THE INSIDE OF THE POST. THE GOAL CAM ON THE BREAK
YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
Klich finally scores after a shot off the bar!
0-1!
LP did walk off but looks bummed
Congrats, Bob . Now into stoppage time
Love being able to listen to the match and the around the grounds
Fernandinho on for La Porte.
Now the audio is working
Leeds one up at the half. Delighted for Bob.
HT.... Half way there
Lyon takes the lead vs Juve
Rodri booked for kicking Benzema in the shins
Gap between top two is 4 points
Gapt to third 6....keep it up
The table is looking really good right now, with Fulham being held at home by Swansea. We're now six points up on Forest in third and 12 points up on Bristol Titties.
Agreed, Dave. Would love to see Leeds widen that gap.
only four minutes late for the score update from France MUR
Sorry, Dave. It's not been a good day for me, but I will try to do better
Mendy suspended for the second leg
When was the last time the home team failed to score in the entire first half of Championship matches. That's like finding a needle in a haystack.
Don't want City to win but HATE Real.... well all Spanish teams!
I picked City to win CL.... but who cares... I could get relegated
I don't think that will be a huge loss for Citeh. Mendy has been inconsistent this season, yet he continues to start for Citeh
Great stat MUR...long may it continue
LOL! I picked Citeh and wonder if I will regret that. Would love Citeh to defeat Real to at least have one Prem team in the quarters of the C.L.
Cheers, Dave. Absolutely!
Rangers are thru to the next round of the EL
They beat Braga 1-0 away from home this afternoon. They won the first leg 3-2 at Ibrox after being 2-0 down
A pair of stoppage time minutes from the Bernabeu.
I saw that match on TUDN. after watching that match I hate the Portugese tams almost as much as the Spanish teams for nearly the same reason.
English sides 315 minutes plus added time of play in 2020... NO GOALS!!
OH!!!! Citeh with a shot cleared off the line from a corner
City go close to break Blighty's duck.... saved off the line
HT
It was Casemiro off the line from Jesus after Courtly flapped at the corner and the shot was sliced by Ramos. It's 0-0 at the half
The second half is underway from the Riverside
Second half underway down by the RIVERside
With GD, Leeds really have a seven point lead over Forest
Luv it! Let's score some more - Boro sound like they're really in poor form.
Forest come to the Riverside next Monday
I thought Boro had improved and moved away from the bottom....NOPE...they were out bottom three on GD
Oh - Kiko had to tip over from a long distance effort by Saville. Knock it off, Boro!
Leeds want a pen! Not given
Stonewall pen apparently
Teams out in Madrid
Can an English team score a goal?
Phew! Sounds like we got out of jail there.
These guys are disgusted with the refereeing
City break... KDB gives it to Mahrez...curles one wide
Boro hit the bar!
PHEW
KNOCK IT OFF
Oh my goodness! We've gotten out of jail again! Off the bar!
We're barely hanging on. Come on, boys!
Sounds like we need to freshen things up now. I'd have Pablo off and Alioski on. Maybe Shackleton on for Berardi as well.
Did Bamford miss again from TWO yards again
WHAT THE HELL
Bloody hell! Patrick has missed from two yards again!
Sign up Shadow straight away!
Klich has picked up a knock and is off for treatment.
Some German bloke has come on for Boro replacing Saville.
Fulham still being held by Swansea, thankfully.
Back from picking up Elizabeth from the grocery store. Modric guilty of a cynical foul in Mahrez then horrible dive from Real in an attempt to win a penalty
talkSport saying that if you're a Leeds fan you have to be so frustrated with Bamford!
Every game is the same.... dominating...not on the scoreboard
Sounds like Bielsa would be better off playing Dave as a striker. He would at least finish off those chances and it would save on the wage bill.
Yeah, it is frustrating but he's basically all we have to we've got to back him and hope that he gets a streak going.
Mahrez through and forces a diving save from Courtly , but really should have given Citeh the lead.
0-0 away from home is not a good score for City
I don't think I missed a single goal while picking up Elizabeth
Madrid take the lead!
GOAL !!! REAL TAKES THE LEAD
Dave's stat... Still no home goals
Citeh coughed up possession in midfield, Modric passed wide left top Vinicius then he passed into the box for a close range tap in for Ascencio.
Nice one, Marcelo - Shackleton gives Pablo a rest. We'll need him for Saturday morning.
In the C.L. all home goals. It's 1-0 in both matches.
Just over 15 minutes left - we're just grinding this one out.
Agreed. It will be a key match at the K.C. for Leeds on Leap Day.
A second goal for Leeds should clinch the three points.
The announcer makes a great point. The Teesiders could be in the drop[ zone soon as the teams currently in the drop zone are in good form. That battle may go down to the final day of the season
As things stand it will be nine without a win for the Teesiders. Woodie on thin ice.
AN encouraging sign is that the Teesiders don't look like scoring. They seem to have run out of ideas.
0-1, 0-1, 0-2, 0-1
0-5 in Europe after leaving the EU....conspiracy?
Harrison had a chance there but sliced it badly. He sounds gassed.
Just under ten minutes plus stoppage time left.
I just checked and with ten minutes remaining not a single second half goal. Only three goals in seven matches.,
Leeds remind me of United from the Fall.... They don't score ANOTHER goal
Wigan double their lead at the StadMad
Possibly a conspiracy unless they trading that in for the E.L.
Wigan two up at the Mad Stad in the highest scoring match of the night . Still no home goals.
Wigan are 0-2 up; not good news for Boro, or for us, as Boro will be desperate to get a goal back now.
That one still has 20 minutes to go
Close range save from Ederson off a one from Real.
Helder needs to hang on to the ball now. It sounds as if he's going on lung-busting runs and the rest of the side can't keep up with him. He's just giving the ball away.
Real go close ....deflected shot by SR
so far Wigan is the only team to score more than one goal tonight and they started the match in the drop zone.
Barely five minutes left plus stoppage time. Hang in there, boys!
Free kick now for Boro some 25 yards out. I'm on pins and needles.
Bale about to come on . Benzema trips Gundogan
Sterling on for Bernie
Bugger... penalty to Fulham
Swansea thought they should have had one a few minutes before
Casilla does well to save from Tavernier after Lewis Wing had a shot come off of Dallas's arm. His arm seemed to be in a natural position.
Phew - the ball is cleared and Tavernier's shot is saved by Kiko. Hang on to it now!
Nearly into stoppage time now. Hang on!
Bale on for Vinicius Jr.
PENALTY SAVED!!
Kate with a great double save!!
Hope there isn't a home goal from Bob and Kate's home
Sounds like we're just knocking it about now.
Way Hay! Kate pushed it on to the apple tree then it was cleared away. Still not a single home goal
BLOW UP, REF!
89th minute penalty save by Kate is just spiffing
Wahay! Well done, Kate, you beauty!
Into stoppage time at the Riverside/.
Five minutes of stoppage time indicated. Hang on, boys!
CITY SCORE
GOAL !!! CITEH TIES IT UP
jESUS HEADED IN A CROSS FROM kdb. tHE pREM FINALLY HAS A cl GOAL IN THE KNOCKOUT STAGES
Four minutes left.
ENGLAND SCORE
Love to see the Spanish gobsmacked
I'm on pins and needles!
City almost score again
VAR checking for a push. Courtly should have done better with that header. The goal stands.
Well done, the English!
We've got a corner now, which will tick off some time.
That will be a valuable away goal for Citeh
Oh - Patrick shoots off target. Probably should have hung on to it.
3 of 5 added minutes still to go at Riverside
BUGGER.... FULHAM HAS SCORED!!!
Mitrovic scored in added time
Balls! Fulham have scored four minutes into stoppage time. We really need to hang on to this win now.
Not a Big Club takes the lead vs Banjo Boy's lads as do the Cottagers vs the Swans. Bob will not be pleased about those home goals.
