Winter Break Sunday

We start with Villa v. Tottenham, with Mourinho meeting up with his old mentee John Terry. Later on we've got Arsenal v. Newcastle.
Join me for all the fun.

Hey Boys
Been busy this morning looking at retirement stuff. I have a consultation on Tuesday
Match just started but I now have to take Shadow on a walk
I'll be back
Peeeeeeeeeeeeeep!
Dele Alli gets the ball rolling at Villa Park.
Morning, UWS - that's got to be really exciting for you. How far down are you on the jar of Snickers now?
Good morning, Bob and Dave. Here to join you for the Storm Dennis the Menace matches
Over half way....getting low. I'l send a pic
Morning, MUR - hope you're not having to face any storm activity today. We got more snow here in WNY last night.
Now I am off....after I take the pic
Serge Aurier with a stupid grab on Jack Grealish concedes a free kick in a dangerous position
The free kick from El Gazi is curled well over
Wow - that's great. I've got my, albeit less momentous, count-down going right now. Only 12 more weeks of my last semester as chair. I'll miss my lovely big office but I won't miss having to break up fights between faculty members. Some people can be idiots!
Aurier is begging for a card already. He's always up for it.
Cheers, Bob. No storm activity at all. It's a comfortable foggy morning. The high will be around 80. Both of you are welcome to come to escape the poor weather you are experiencing.
GOAL !!!VILLA TAKE THE LEAD THANKS TO AN O.G. FROM TOBY
GOAL! Looks to me to be an own goal by Toby. What a nightmare!
1-0 Villa!
it was a really simple goal.A long clearance/pass from Pepe Reina found El Gazi, who made a run down the right and his cross was diverted in for an O.G. as Toby was trying to clear
Villa sensing victory, try for a second as Grealish is not too far wide with a shot from just outside the box
Some pancakes have arrived at my side.
Villa have another free kick and it's headed away by Ben Davies.
Sounds like a great/hearty brekkies
Delle Alli with a close range effort blocked off a run and pass from Lucas Moura thanks to a poor back pass from El GAzi
Good block there on Dele Alli - he was threatening.
In the S.P.L. , Celtic are a baker's dozen points clear of Rangers after a 1-2 win at Aberdeen. Rangers hosts Livvy at 10
Oh - a huge chance there for El Ghazi set up by Grealish.
OH!!! Nice run and pass from Jack Grealish down the left and he lays it on a plate for Douglas Luiz , who blasts over from two yards out
The corner from Matty Targett results in a couple of b locked shots then Spurs clear then Villa get the ball back
End to end stuff as Delle Ali sandwiches a close range diving header well wide
Toby down after he blocked a close range effort from Samatta. It's not been a pleasant start to the match for him
Near post header from Samatta wide from a difficult angle off a cross from El Gazi
OH!!! one too many passes from Villa as SPurs were picked apart and Dier cut put the final; pass from Grealish for a Villa corner
Wasteful corner from Grealish.
The corner from Grealish is well over cooked and sails harmlessly out of play for a goal kick
This result will have huge ramifications at opposite end s of the table. Bad news for the Hornets and Hammers . Good news for the Evil Blades, which will not please Bob.
GOAL! Toby redeems himself with his first goal for Spurs in three years!
GOAL !!! I9T'S 1-1 AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY AS TOBY SCORES FOR BOTH SIDES. NICE FINISH
To be honest, it was a poor corner from Number One Son that was not properly cleared and fair play to Toby , who blasted in from close range.
Eric Dier has a problem now.
Credit to Steve Berg-Wine , who will not get credit for an assist, but his slide rule pass was cut out as a slide tackle on Aurier was Targetted for the corner that resulted in the goal
Agreed, Bob. Eric is a real dier fitness wise as he's in Dire Straits
Davinson Sanchezcuts out a pass Targetted for a Villa forward for a Villa corner
I am back after walkies
We did a couple of inches of snow overnight but it is a lot warmer than it has been the last couple of days
Lloris completely miss judges the corner and it's head tennis on the goal line before Lloris claws it away for another corner. Then it's out for yet another corner
Welcome back, Dave. Glad the weather has shown improvement for the Winter Break
Bob, I think I asked you a couple of times and I think I got an answer
Storm Dennis
What scene do we quote using the name Dennis?
I knew there was one and it finally came to me on a walk yesterday
Delli Ali misses a great chance
OH!!!! Delle alli fails to deliver the knockout punch as he shoots well wide with just Pepe Reina to beat. Nice headed pass by Number One Son off a throw at the halfway line
VAR checking for handball.... nothing given
OH! A long range rocket that swerved was straight at Lloris but fumbled away for that reason
Lloris took one to the chops as seen on the replay
Storm Dennis the Menace must be concluding as a patch of sun is out behind the Vila goal
Every time I hear Drinkwater mentioned on telly or the radio.... they say he's given the ball away. He's behind the pace
And again
It's the Australians sketch. "Is your name not Bruce?"
"Not it's Dennis."
"Can we call you Bruce then?"
No, that's Michael
Movie scene
Dele Alli misses another chance!
Oh - Spurs seemed certain to score there. Great blocks on Dele Alli's and Bergwein's efforts.
Close range effort from Delle Alli and Steve Berg-Wine blocked then Villa clear away
VAR checking for handball as game is continuing
This is a farce
VAR checking for handball off the blocked shots
No pen
Hmmmm...I can't think of it, then. I can almost hear it in my mind but I can't come up with it.
No penalty. at least it didn't take forever to arrive at a decision.
Oh - it is the Peasant scene from Holy Grail:
"Dennis, there's some lovely filth over here!"
I think they are going to give a penalty for this one
Again....it was a challenge
A complete farce .... should be called VARce
VAR check now on a possible penalty.
It is a pen
Penalty to Spurs - lots of boos around the ground.
VAR says penalty to Spurs after a slide tackle by Bjorn Engels on Berg-Wine
Korea's favorite Son to take the pen now....
Great save by Reina but the rebound is turned in.
1-2!
Penalty saved .... but Son nets his own rebound
GOAL !!!! THE SPUDS TAKE A 1-2 LEAD IN STOPPAGE TIME. PEPE REINA SAVES THE PENALTY FROM NUMBER ONE SON THEN HE PUTS AWAY THE REBOUND
Got it Bob
Old Woman
I'm a man
I'm 37, I'm not old
I couldn't just call you man
You could have called me Dennis
I didn't know your name was Dennis
Didn't bother to find out did you
this doesn't help United at all
As things stand the Spuds are in the last C.L. spot.
HT at VP
The Spuds have come from behind to lead 1-2 at the half
Son looks in pain and almost tears
Son has returned for the second half
Really need Villa to get back into this one
We are off
Back on at Villa Park for the second half.
Drinkwater loses another ball... he's a liability
Back from a lengthy trip to the bog to see that I did NOT miss a goal
Speaking of Python, there's a new set of adverts on the telly that have a real Pythonesque feel to them. I'll see if I can post them on the blog.
ALL I missed was Drinkwater losing the ball on watery pitch , which is hardly a collector's item.
That would be a great post, Bob
El Gazi wins a corner off of Davinson Sanchez
GOAL.... Villa ties it up!
Now get the winna Villa
GOAL !!!DESMOND AT VILLA PARK AS BJRON ENGELS HEADS IN A CORNER FROM JACK GREALISH
What a time to score his first Villa goal
GOAL! Villa are back in it! Bjorn Engels, the big Belgian thumps home a header from a corner.
Desmond!
A cross from Serge Aurier off of Courtney HAuse for a Spurs corner
El Gazi wins yet another Villa corner
The corner is headed well wide by Courtney Hause
Like for like as Marvelous Nakamba on for Danny Drinkwater, who as anything but Marvelous.
Cometh the hour mark, cometh the subs. Nakamba replaces Drinkwater and Lo Celso replaces Dier.
Pepe Reina does well to push away a close range effort from Number One Son
That's an attacking switch by Little Joe as the player replaced had a real dire performance.
Lots of chances here
Lots of attacking
Not much passing sideways and backwards!
That was a fantastic picture from Dave. Wonder if eating those candies as he gets closer to retirement makes him laugh so hard that he gets the Snickers
Villa looking increasingly dodgy in the backline.
El Gazi down with a head injury after that close range header
A draw would surely be a better result for Villa ,who would see that as another point closer to safety
Guilbert has a cross blocked for a Villa corner
Trezeguet on for El Gazi, who put in a great shift
More changes now - Trezeguet coming on for El Ghazi.
Villa survive again
Berg-Wine with a shot blocked for a SPurs corner after Pepe Reina pushed a way a cross from Serge Aurier off a pass from Lo Celso
Oh - Spurs seems certain to score again. Great block!
DA misses another chance
Great close range block by Pepe Reina from Number One Son after a through ball from Lucas Moura was miss judged
Oh - Dele Alli was in there but Reina did so well to stand up to him.
Naughty by Berg-Wine on Jack Grealish . Just a lecture from Martin Atkinson
Harry Wonks fouls Jack Grealish just outside the Spurs box. A really clumsy challenge
Is Dele Alli North London's version of Patrick Bamford? How's his hold-up play?
Trezeguet has a long range effort deflected for a corner off a run and pass from Courtney Hause
Lloris punches away a corner targetted for him
If Villa Park is such a premier ground, how am I able to see trees through the corner of the stadium? Won't see that at Elland Road, you won't.
Delle Alli and Bamford sure are similar type players
Villa Park was a normal Semi Final venue in the past
They just didn't connect a corner!
Delle Alli being sandwiched off and replaced by Fernandes.
The profligate Dele Alli finally gets the hook. Gedson Fernandes replaces him. Boston comes on for his Villa debut.
Lucas M misses a good chance
City vs West Ham is on Wednesday... I wonder how they are getting away with that. Games in the Prem and Champ aren't supposed to be played the days of CL
Oh - another great save by Reina. When did he move to Villa - I don't remember that signing.
Great save by Pepe.... he should have gone to Leeds
Oh - another huge save by Reina from Son. Should have been the game clincher. Reina is keeping Villa in this one.
OH! Superb close range reflex save by Reina off the SPurs corner
We could use him. Although Kiko was very good yesterday when we were under the cosh at the end. I like that the gaffer is loyal rather than chopping and changing.
Just Google Earthed Villa Park
All four corners have gaps
I'm not sure . I guess it may be due to the fact that the match was cancelled due to the weather and it was hard to find an open week in the calendar
I agree with Dave about Villa Park. One of the better Prem grounds with lots of scenery , nostalgia , and tradition.
Useless attempt of a cross...of course
I'd really like a Villa win... I don't want them to go down
A Barber Shop Quartet of stoppage time minutes. Will either team be singing about a victory
What is the closet ground to Villa Park?
Villa's fate may go down to the final match of the season
Is it St. Andrews?
I don't see Villa going down - they've got just enough quality to stick around. I fear that it's West Ham Watford and Norwich, but Bournemouth are also in the mix.
I'd love to see Bournemouth down, and Eddie Howe sacked so that he could go to OT.
I am looking on GE... it looks like it is St Andrews...just closer that the Hawthorns
The Hawthorns, I'd guess.
This is a real blow to Spurs' hopes of a CL slot.
I don't think Eddie Howe will be sacked. He will probably be given a season to win them promotion. Mo Po would probably be most likely to go to OT
BUGGER
Son has won it with the last kick of the match!!
Oh my giddy aunt! Son has won it for the North Londoners!
Terrible mistake by the defender
GOAL !!!! NUMBER ONE SON WINS FOR SPURS WITH A GRETA FINISH OFF A HORRIBLE GIVE AWAY BY BJORN ENGELS.
3.3 miles to St Andrews
3.8 miles to Hawthorns
Hate it... Jose's first reaction....let's make a sub with NO TIME LEFT
Little Joe with a substitution to ruin UWS's day as Vertonghen on for Lucas Moura
That's it - Spurs have pulled off a late snatch and grab on the Villans. They'll leapfrog the Blades into fifth.
I'm off for a shower then.
It's over and Spurs win it late on as they escape with a 2-3 win at Villa PArk. Spurs in a C.L. spot and Villa stay just outside relegation spot
Bad result for United
Spurs up to sixth... a point behind Chelsea
United need to beat Chelsea to be a point behind Spurs
Third Twenty20 match..the decider between SA and Eng
England need 17 off two overs
Oh dear...wicket from first ball
9 runs needed off 8 balls
3 runs needed off 7
1 run needed off 6
England win with 5 balls to spare and win the series
Nocito Sportscenter is done
Teams in the tunnel....NBC will go to commercial or split screen
Here they come....off they go
Back from a refreshing shower and it's the late at the EM as the Gunners host the Toon
Starting XI: Leno, Bellerin, Mustafi, Luiz, Saka, Xhaka, Ceballos, Ozil, Pepe, Nketiah, Aubameyang.
Subs: Martinez, Sokratis, Kolasinac, Torreira, Willock, Martinelli, Lacazette.
Starting XI: Dubravka, Lazaro, Clark, Lascelles, Fernandez, Rose, Almiron, S. Longstaff, Bentaleb, Saint-Maximin, Joelinton.
Subs: Darlow, Schar, Lejeune, M. Longstaff, Hayden, Atsu, Ritchie.
Leeds reject gets a start
This was supposed to be like the early match with a a team fight for a European slot against a relegation threatened team. In reality it's a contest between two mid table teams
Leeds reject gets a start
The Gunners with the fewest wins at this stage of the season in the Prem era. They are draw specialists this season
They're off from the EM.
we are off
Both teams in their traditional kits as they were earlier today and the late match yesterday
Back for kick off at the Em after a refreshing shower.
Regarding your quiz question I almost chose the Hawthorns, but changed my mine at the last second
With Citeh now banned from Europe, this one has real import to it. Arsenal are currently in 11th but will hope to be able put on a late run for that last UEFA Cup slot.
Bellerin clears for an early Toon corner
Agreed, Bob. It's possible that 8th place may be good enough for an EL spot, so the Gunners are still in it despite their awful; season
Nice run down the left by Joel Linton and he finds Lazaro , who is tackled for a Toon corner
Toon with a chance at the back post....corner
Of course, it comes to nothing
Joelinton swung in a lovely ball there to Lozarro but the Arenal backfour were able to recover.
St. Max went down under the challenge from Xakha Khan in the box. A penalty would have been a harsh decision.
Lee Mason singing a booking Toon to Xakha Khan for pulling back Lazaro's shirt on the break
Arsenal's backline seems to be troubled by the pacy Toon frontline.
I agree. Those pacy Toon attackers should go at that Gunners defense
We all know City will appeal
How long will that take
Could the appeal still be pending and 5th takes CL spot?
That Gunner's defense does not have a lot of weapons in their arsenal.
Arsenal really under the cosh so far. I'm surprised.
Oh - the deflected volley almost caught out Jay Leno. Just tired it around for another corner.
Beckham to Scholes type corner... volley is not Scholeslike but deflects and Leno makes a decent save
If Citeh win their appeal then the game will change permanently for worse
Brucie deserves more credit for the job he's done
Great save by Jay Leno off that deflected effort off the corner. The Toon nearly scored twice
both teams have drawn the majority of their recent matches, so a draw may be the expected result today
For the good of the game, the Citeh decision must be upheld.
I think they were given two so they can appeal down to one
Hope not but...
Ceballos fouls St. Max about 25 yards from the Gunners goal
Lazaro has been extremely impressive on his full debut.
Longstaff with a free kick effort that he'd rather forget.
An awful free kick from one of the Longstaffe brothers was a long way off.
I agree - if it were still Rafa Benitez in charge, they'd be singing the praises to the heavens.
First really decent move from Arsenal ends up with Saka, who doesn't quite get the curler right.
Saka with a shot deflected for a Gunners corner
I agree with Dave. Citeh get the punishment reduced to a year , which is far too lenient in my opinion.
