Another Big Match in the Prem!
It's been an absolutely thrilling start to the season, with loads of goals, last-minute winners, contentious penalties and very few draws. Tonight's match between Liverpool and Arsenal is one of those fixtures that, in previous seasons, would be a dour, drab affair with lots of the kind of "modern football" that we hate. I'm hoping tonight will be different. I'm marooned at the office but will be tuning in via Peacock on my phone. Join me if you're around!

Good afternoon, Bob. Thanks for getting us started. Looking forward to the match
The Cottagers problems continue as Villa take advantage of Bob and Kate's generosity as brilliant hosts as Villa score three with out reply. Cottagers bottom and Villa surprisingly up to fourth .
Afternoon, David - great to hear from you. I hope that you're enjoying a good start to the week. It's lovely here in Fred-town today but we're expecting rain later in the week.
I was pleased as punch to see that earlier result. It means that Fulham stay rooted to the bottom of the league and Scotty Parker must be odds-on favorite to win the sack race. Sheffield United are right above them and WBA are on the edge of the dropzone given that Burnley have only played two matches. I like the look of that league cellar.
Fulham have already conceded 10 goals, while WBA have conceded 11 in their first three matches. They both have to be considered favorites for the drop.
The teams gathering in the tunnel at Anfield now.
And after the preliminaries, we're set to go in this one.
They're off from Anfield
Thanks Bob. I mowed the lawn in hot and really humid conditions, but a front is about to pass through, so it will be in the 80s with low humidity the next few days. About time
How is your start to the week?
Mane booked for an off the ball incident on Kieran Tierney
WOW ! Tom Whittaker was the last Gunners manager to win on his first visit to Anfield and that was in 1947. Wonder what Steve thinks of that stat
The winner of this match goes top if the Gunners win by at least five goals or if Pool win by at least half a dozen goals. I don't see that happening, so the winner will probably be second on goal difference. If it finishes a draw Villa drop down to fifth below these two
Andy Robertson win s a corner off of Willian off a pass from Keita. The corner is headed away then the cross from TAA is headed by Van Dijck and off the line by Side show Bob for a corner
Hey Boys
I am here for the first half then I have to pick up Kath
I will be listening to 5Live on the road
Keita with a shot deflected for a corner off a long possession off the corner . Holding was the defender
Corner from Robertson passed to Salah who shoots over
God Afternoon Dave. Hope everything is going well.
Everything here is fine
Rainy start to the day but very nice now...our weather will turning cold soon enough! Leaves are starting to fall already
Mane with an effort well saved!
Mane with a close range effort blocked by Jay Leno, but really straight to him
It was right at Leno but did have to move his hands to make the save
We both comment it was straight at Letterman...I mean Leno
Arsenal need to start to threaten Liverpool's goal soon
Hiya, Dave - I'm hoping for an Arsenal win here, too.
Hey Bob
Oh - a rocket by TAA comes off the bar and out again.
Pool hit the woodwork....Three First Names shot deflected
Cross from Andy Robertson cleared by Xkaha Khan for a corner. OH! Long range effort from TAA deflected on to the bar
It came off a decent headed clearance by Sideshow Bob off the corner
I believe you all will be raking leaves regularly soon as we head into October. We're going to have pleasant weather the next few days with cooler weather here too
How about Villa going up to Fourth before kick off of this match
As of now, these two both jump above Villa
My concern for the gunners is that they need to be stronger in attack. They have done very little with Pool starting to dominate
Shot from wijnaldum straight to Jay Leno
Yes! The Gunners take the lead through a prolific Alexandre Lacazette!
0-1!
And Arsenal take the lead!!
Horrible mistake from Robertson.....how lovely!
A mis-kick by The Gazette as well!
Not the prettiest finish but they all count.
One an quarter games at home... Liverpool have conceded FOUR goals!
What did you read in your favorite French daily, David?
WAY HAY ! THE GUNNERS TAKE THE LEAD AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY ON A NICE BREAK. I MISSED THE GOAL BUT ACCORDING TO WHAT I READ IN LACAZETTE A POOR CROSS FROM MAITLAND -NILES BACK PASSED FOR A GOAL FROM TWO YARDS OUT. I ALSO READ THAT THERE WAS A NICE PASS PLAYED TO THE LEFT TO MAITLAND-NILES TO SET UP THE CROSS
I would love this league to be wide open with not just Liverpool and City challenging.... United, Chelsea, Leicester, Everton....LEEDS
Bugger... Mane ties it up
GOAL! Well, that didn't take too long. Mane makes it 1-1 with a tap-in after Salah had burst through.
Letterman has to parry it further out!!!
Tierney got roasted like a plucked chicken there. I wouldn't want to be him walking into the dressing room at half-time.
GOAL !!!MANE OH MANE! COMICAL FROM JAY LENO! MANE FOULED THEN BALL PASSED TO SALAH . SHOT SAVED FROM JAY LENO THEN THE REBOUND TAPPED IN BY MANE
Go on, Dave - we're not going to be challenging this season. We're a long way off that. I'll take Premier League survival, ta very much.
Both teams left backs at fault for the goal. Andy Robertson will be roasted for the assist for the gunners goal
Bob... my two highest fantasy players this week
Kane 19.5 and Kal Phillips with 15!
I'm wining with me have AMN playing for the Arsenal and my opponent has PEA
Well in, Dave - Kal Phillips always delivers the goods!
Based on what I have observed I can see 35-37 points being enough to survive this season. Leeds in good shape for that
Still no nil nillers after 28 games of the season!!
Keep it going
I second that. I didn't expect Kane to lead the league in assist . Would be shocked if anyone in the PPP picked him in that category
I second that Dave. Love the fact there haven't been any nil nillers
You must have been on my shoulder during the draft!
I have Philips , Cooper and Dallas on my team!
I left Coop and JR Ewing on my bench and they scored a combined 26 points.... I need to start them!
I agree with Dave that it's surprising to see Villa fourth now fifth, but both matches have been against teams currently in the drop zone. Can they maintain this against tougher opposition?
GOAL !!! POOL HAVE COME FROM BEHIND TO LEAD 2-1
Robertson atones for his mistake.... 2-1 Pool
GOAL! Robertson adds a second for Liverpool and they've turned this one around.
2-1!
Poor defending off a Pool possession. Long diagonal played wide right to Bobby Chompers , who passed back to Salah back to TAA and his cross was tapped in by a wide open Andy Robertson
Villa have a game in hand on these two
They have 100% record along with Leicester, Everton and as of now...Pool
Liverpool rise to third above Arsenal on the strength of that effort. Arsenal drop to fourth now and will drop even more if they concede more.
Bob and Dave did you see the stat mentioned about Gunners managers. Last Gunners manager to win his first match at Anfield as Gunners boss was Tom Whittaker in 1947. Your thoughts?
Pool will go second ahead of their Mersey rivals the Toffees if they score another without reply
Villa host Liverpool on Sunday, which may be Pools's second match in a row where both teams have a 100% record. We will see if Villa are the real deal. The late match and last one headed into the international break
I saw your comment about it
Sorry wasn't sure. Was surprised when I first heard about it
A pair of stoppage time minutes
Back to you yesterday's comment from me
Gr Gr gr groin injury!
It was from Cheers
BTW, on the channel Decades... Cheers is going to be shown at 11 and 11:30 weekday nights...I am interested if it still holds up
I loved it
That is an interesting stat - doesn't look as if Arteta is going to improve on that.
Liverpool have come from behind to lead 2-1 at the end of an entertaining half
1947...wonder if that was the '46-47 season or 47-48 season
Liverpool won the league in '47(first since WW2) and Arsenal won it in '48
HT
Reds lead the Gunners
Half time comes - as with their match with us, Liverpool are showing defensive frailties this season. If teams get after them, they will ship some goals. But then...they'll score some as well!
I'm off home.
Thanks for the yip Dave. That's one of my all time favorite sitcoms.
I am really looking forward to watching it...I am sure they will start it from the beginning
Just looked up the seasons
Liverpool beat Arsenal 4-2 in their Championship season of "47...United were runners up by a point!
Arsenal's title winning side won at Anfield 1-3 in "47-48....United were runners up by SEVEN points... at least we won the Cup
Bob is off home? I thought he had class on Monday nights
I am off to pick up Kathy
I usually get home just before the final whistle
I'll try and join in again
TTFN
Second half underway.
Have a good trip, Dave. Look forward to chatting with you later
Willian down off a challenge from fellow Brazi, Fabinho
He's up and able to continue as it's been a cagey start to the second half
I was busy clipping my nails , but read in LaCazette that a Gunners striker was clean through and hos shot was well blocked by Allison mas the offside flag was raised
Ceballos on for Xakha Khan, which is a more attacking move from Arteta
Jay Leno does well to push away a swerving long range shot from Van Dijck
OH! A repeat article in LaCazette . Nice slide rule pass from Ceballos and Allison did well to rush out and block a close range shot. Onside this time
OH! Just wide by Mane off nice one touch passing
Willian fouls Mane about thirty yards from goal
Bellerin booked for a foul on Mane , but Fabinho with an identical foul on Aubama and nothing even called
Like for like as Pepe is on for Willian
Ceballos called for a foul on Mane just outside the box. Booked for the shove in the back unless it was his antics after the call
The final roll of the dice and like for like . I actually missed the substitution, but according to La Cazette Eddie is coming on as the final Gunners sub
Great chance for the Gunners. Nice through ball but great sweeper keeping from Allison as Eddie was through. Then a shot from Salah deflected off of Kieran Tierney just wide for a Pool corner
Pool double substitution. Jota on for a his Pool prem debut for Mane . Miner on for Keita
Cross from Jota cleared seconds after coming on
Shot from Jota well wide from just outside the box
OH! Into the side netting by Jota with just Jay Leno to beat. Nice pass across the box by Salah after he received a long diagonal pass from Van Dijck
Van Dijck tackles Eddie for a corner off a run and pass from Pepe
Andy Robertson clears the corner at the near post
OH! Salah got in Jota's way as he had just Jay Leno to beat . The Gunners still in this match
Nice long diagonal pass from Joe Gomez Addams to Jota , but the Gunners were Holding him off for a Pool corner
GOAL !!! JOTA SCORES A DEBUT GOAL TO MAKE IT 3-1 LATE ON
Salah kept an overcooked pass in play , paased back top TAA , his cross headed away by Sideshow Bob and Jota scored with a well placed shot from the edge of the box
A trio of stoppage time minutes
I am back just as the 90 minute mark has passed
Stupid substitution!
Like for like as Minnie Minnow is on for Bobby Chompers. A stoppage time substitution to ruin Dave's day . Final roll of the dice from, Klopp
Welcome back, Dave. Thought you would feel that way about the substitution.
My 5Live link is so far ahead of Peacock....poor form NBC PEACOCK...whatever you are!
Pool now now second ahead of their bitter city rivals on goals scored. The Gunners in fifth
And Liverpool have beaten Arsenal
Liverpool into second atop of their city rivals
Take Care David
Talk to you during Cup matches
TTFN
It finishes 3-1 as Pool extend their league unbeaten run to 61 matches
Cheers Dave. Enjoy the rest of the day and look forward to chatting during the Cup matches.
CHEERS!
