Fourth Round Saturday
Happy Fourth Round Saturday, everyone! I'm up with the chickens to enjoy the early offering - Southampton v. Arsenal. After that, it's a right old Cup smorgasbord throughout the day, with West Ham v. Doncaster perhaps the highlight of the 10am EST hour and then Cheltenham v. Citeh at tea-time. There's even a Premier League offering - Newcastle v. Villa - at the end fo the day. Join me for all the Cup action, won't you?

This one is a mouth-watering prospect. Both teams are in a good place right now, Saints progressing nice and steadily under Ralph Hasenhuttl, Arsenal rediscovering some form after losing their way in the autumn.
The team news out of the South Coast:
Southampton: Forster, Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Stephens, Bertrand, Armstrong, Diallo, Ward-Prowse, Walcott, Ings, Adams.
Subs: Watts, Long, Valery, Vokins, Ramsay, N’Lundulu, Lewis, Jankewitz, Chauke.
Arsenal: Leno, Bellerin, Holding, Gabriel, Cedric, Elneny, Xhaka, Pepe, Willian, Martinelli, Nketiah.
Subs: Saka, Lacazette, Runarsson, Maitland-Niles, Thomas, Chambers, Luiz, Willock, Ryan.
Referee: Peter Bankes (Merseyside).
The holders are playing a fairly weak side, with only three or four recognized starters. Meanwhile, it's a full-strength side for the hosts.
And we're way from The Dell, on a sunny day on the South Coast.
Oh - early danger for Arsenal as a JWP cross clips off the crossbar!
Good Morning, Bob. Just woke up to join you for the Cup match. Off to brew some coffee
The winners of this match play at Molineaux in the Fifth Round and must feel confident after that wretched m performance yesterday
Morning, David - hope you're enjoying your Saturday morning.
Oh - the ball comes open to Cedric and he blasts it well over the bar.
Cedric the Entertainer well over on his return to St. Mary's off a pass from Willian off a pass from Eddie
Cheers, Bob. Still half asleep. Hope you're off tp a good start this Saturday as well
Oh - Che Adams weaved his way through into the area and forced a great save out of our favorite late night show host.
Che Addams gets past guest Band , Peter Gabriel and forces a great from Jay Leno off a pass from Theo
Yeah - it is an early morning. We were up late watching an interesting Scottish movie about an aspiring country singer.
OH! Great Brazi combo as Martinelli beat the offside trap off a free kick from Willian and missed his kick with just the keeper to beat
Was the movie on Netflix? Hope ,you started the day with some strong coffee
GOAL !!! SAINTS TAKE THE LEAD
GOAL! Soton have the lead through what looks to be an own goal off Gabriel. The deflection took it past Leno.
Ball played wide right by JWP to Kyle Walker-Peters and at first glance it appeared he scored the goal as his cross/shot went under the dive of Jay Leno and hard to see who got the last touch in a crowd of players but it went last off of Peter Gabriel for an OG
Long shot from JWP well wide
Word from CBS is that Jay Leno has banned peter Gabriel from ever being guest on his show again after that OG!
Che Addams with a shot blocked for a corner off a cross from JWP from a pass from Kyle Walker-Peters
Actually, it was one that I got through our Interlibrary Loan system. I typically order one or two a week for us to watch.
Corner from JWP headed away by Rob Holding and a long shot from Ryan Bertrand lands in Row N
I can well understand ban - it a was a terrible touch from Gabriel - a right old sledgehammer to the Arsenal effort here.
Poor clearance from Jay Leno breaks to JWP and passes to Stu Armstrong who has a shot deflected for a corner
Morning Boys
I just tuned in Roku before the goal went in. Not good from the holders to put out a weakened side
Danny Ings with a free header heads well wide off the corner from JWP
Good morning, Dave. Wonder if Steve agrees.
LOL, Bob. Great reasoning
In case anyone is wondering , this is a repeat of the 2003 Final.
The first half starting to wind down now; in truth, the Gunners haven't threatened Forster's goal yet.
pepe called for a clumsy foul on Ryan Bertrand just outside the Gunners box
I remember that final well - I was watching that from my home in Japan.
The curling free kick from JWP had just too much curl as it went just wide
JWP whips in a free kick effort - not this time.
WOW! You must have watched at the wee hours of the night!
Can you believe that news about NBC!
The Gunners started well, but have faded since the goal
A minute of stoppage time
It's incredible, Dave. I think it's some greedy financial decision
Saints one up at the half thanks to a bizarre OG from Peter Gabriel
The Saints trot off 1-0 to the good at half-time. Back in a tick.
Of course.....they two teams beat United in the Cup Final in the mid and late 70s
I'm back for the second half with another cuppa.
I'm back for the second half with another cuppa.
We are off for the second half
No changes I guess
Back for the second half at St. Mary's with the Saints one up
Hilarious text message . Love the Worcestershire skit
Arsenal have 40 minutes to rescue their Cup campaign for this year. I'm surprised that Arteta hasn't gone to his bench yet.
I thought it was funny
Oh - Danny Ings was through there and hit the post with his effort. Could have gone back in off Leno.
OH! Off the post from Danny Ings then off Jay Leno for a corner directly off a long clearance from Fraser Forster
Wow.... Ings hits the post and then it rebounds of Leno just wide of the post!
Didn't they get a corner? Did I miss something?
Did you all see the text I sent? Did you feel the Bern?
Morning, Dave - unbelievable news out of NBC Sports. I hope that it doesn't interrupt our Prem watching.
Bob is ignoring me again!!
FINALLY...only took you 30 minutes!!
Half volley from JWP over off a poor clearance from Rob Holding off a cross from Ryan Bertrand
I did see it David.... a little too much of you!
Sad news of the passing of Larry King due to complications of Covid at age 87.
USA and Peacock will be showing the matches
Sad indeed, Bob. I think he passed away midweek. Is that correct?
LOL, Dave. Couldn't find any large pics of the Bern for that program
A bit clumsy by Ryan Bertrand on Pepe
It was actually Jack Stephens who was booked for that
I think the coverage will be going down from what we are used to. I think more streaming to be involved... which means not live!!
It's Partey Time
Partey time for the Gunners ? He's on for El Neny
Arteta finally goes to his bench. Partey on for Elneny and Saka on for Martinelli.
Also a great Saka player on for Martinelli. Both changes like for like
No - I believe Larry King just died this morning.
Rob Holding shoots over from the corner as the Saints are more than holding on
YIKES! Still sad news.
That's such a shame. I've really enjoyed the NBC Sports coverage.
Turned cold here in ENY.... low of 7 today and high of 16
Another professional player's foul throw!
We'll still get coverage from NBC as both USA and Peacock are owned by NBC. It's one of those annoying corporate reshuffles.
WOW, Dave! Stay warm. A shame we have the pandemic as the weather here is perfect for escaping the cold and would have been a perfect getaway.
They only have the Prem rights for one more year
Theo well over against his old mates. Stu Armstrong played Che Addams down the left. Theo missed his cross then the ball played back to him for that shot
NBC has been on the decline the past few years. Time for someone else to take over?
Decent kick save by Fraser Forster from Eddie for a Gunners corner
We got about a foot of snow overnight, so I'll be digging after this match.
I'd be happy if ESPN got the rights. The coverage is just fine on the Plus.
No pen for the would be handball
I agree with you.... but not just on Plus!!
After the pandemic you can do worse than making South Texas your winter home. Lovely weather this week
I don't think that the Arsenal have had a shot on goal yet.
They have plenty of outlets to show the matches on the TV
I don't know how much more of the cold weather Kathy can take
Wonder if Hulu,Net flix, or the Roku channel will be covering Prem matches
I heard a rumor in your favorite French periodical that Alexandre Lacazette has come on for Bellerin.
I missed that last Gunners substitution , but read about Bellerin being replaced by a striker while reading La Cazette
All these options mean streaming... I hate streaming!!
It is always delayed!
Nothing clicking yet for the Gunners.
Willian with a shot blocked for a corner
Hope BEIN doesn't get the bid because we no longer get them.
Gabriel screams like a little girl.... EVERYONE heard it!
Why doesn't that a get a booking!
Of course, bookings are nothing these days!
I was watching a match from 76 United v Brum .... a Blue Nose puts in a horrible tackle and stamps on Coppell.... there was such a shock that he was BOOKED! He was complaining so much...he then got sent off!
Danny Nlundulu on for Che Addams as that's minus one for the Addams Family
Ralphie starting to bolt the door.
ESPN would be perfect
ESPN, 2, ABC and on line
Especially because ABC doesn't have the NFL... they could show the big match on Sundays
I remember that match. I think it was Archie Styles and his behavior was about thirty years ahead of his time in a bad way
Gunners go close... good save by keeper and then off the line but it was offside anyway
JWP clears off the line as the Gunners apply the pressure
Oh - closest the Arsenal have come. Offside but still...cleared off the line by JWP.
Would ESPN show the matches? They usually seem obsessed with showing College Football in the Fall and baseball in the Spring. Not sure how that would work.
Partey gives a ways a silly foul... comes to nothing really
Wow... didn't realize we are already past the 80th minute!
I agree with you about the Fall and football
Stupid foul by Ryan Bertrand on Pepe just outside the box
Horrible free kick from Pepe several feet over
Oh - that was woeful from Pepe. He should get the hook for that.
Like for like as Danny Ings replaced by Shane , who won't be on for a LONG time
That sounds like a great plan, Dave!
Shane Long goes down looking for a pen. Should get a yellow for that nonsense.
I reading that the ratings for Sports Networks for 2020
1 ESPN
2 NBCSN
3 FS1
4 ESPN 2
Why would they shut down!!!!
It musty be some greedy financial decision
It's a crazy decision.
These two meet again in the Prem three days from now
Oh - dangerous ball across the area from Saka. He's been a bright spark since coming on. But they're running out of time.
https://the18.com/en/soccer-entertainment/us-premier-league-coverage-nbcsn-shuttering
An LOB blogging trio of stoppage time minutes
Arteta's gamble of playing the second team appears to be working against him. Three minutes of stoppage time to come.
This round is starting with two one nillers. Poor for the FA Cup
Nlundulu with a shot blocked for a corner by Xakha Khan off a chested pass from Shane Long
Now or never for the Gunners!
Close to having Arsenal and Utd/Pool out of the Cup in the 4th Round!
Eddie slices a shot wide and that may do it
Gunners get a chance.... Ex Leeds man.... no where near
It's over and the holders are out as the Saints win 1-0. Sorry Steve.
That's it - the holders are out; Soton march on.
That is it... the holders are out!!
Sorry Steve!
Wolves vs Saints in the Fifth Round and one would have to favor the Saints
I am off to do some errands in the Frozen Tundra
I'll be back later on
TTFN
Off to take Sparky walkies and a foggy, muggy morning
I'm off to do some shoveling. I'll be in and out during the 10am matches.
Cheers Bob and Dave. Back for the 10 AMers. I guess I'll go with Bob's suggestion and go with the Hammers vs Donny Osmond
More trivia than we needed to know. First time these two have met in the Cup , making this the 97th FA Cup opponent for the Hammers. Hammers have all five meetings since 1957 between these two. Last met in March 2012 in the Championship
Both teams fielding weakened sides. Davie Moyes making seven changes from the victory vs the Baggies while Darren Moore , makes several from the league win vs Rochdale
They're off from the London Stadium
Hammers in their traditional colors while Donny, who normally wear red and white, wearing all back
GOAL !!! HAMMERS TAKE AN EARLY LEAD. POABLO FORNALS TAPS IN A POASS FROM JAMMY LENKO
Well worked Hammers goal . Long Donny clearance was chested down by Pablo Fornals. He passed wide right to Jammy Lenko who played it down the ,line to Ryan Fredricks and his pass was put away first time by Fornals from near the penalty spot
Donny currently in good form as they are fifth in L1., so a tad surprising to fall behind early on
Same two combine as for the goal as Ryan Fredricks puts in a cross and Fornals gets ahead of the keeper , who was trying to punch out a cross a nd heads wide
Some early goals in L1 and by teams in the drop zone at top half teams.
Real Dons take the lead at Motley Crewe as does Swindon at Charlton
Just wide by Lanzini who collected a pass from, the back
Real Dons move out of the drop zone a point clear while Swindon move up to the last drop spot and only away from safety on goal difference. Northants into the drop zone , now third from bottom
Benrahma to Jammy Lenko to Lanzini who shoots just wide as Donny struglging to cope with the Hammers passing
One more Swindon goal and the Tractor Boys will replace Charlton in that last playoff spot
Swans take the lead vs Forest in the Cup
In L2 Scunny defeated Grimsby 3-0 in a relegation six pointer local derby. Exeter defeated Stevenage 3-1 as two of the bottom three have lost
Oldham 1 Newport 1
Wasall in the lead at Port Vale
Tranny on top vs Bolton
Rangers inching closer to the SPL title as they take the lead vs Ross County
As things stand the Hammers will travel to OT or Anfield in the Fifth Round
The Black Cats take the lead vs the Shrews and are now in the last playoff spot ahead of Charlton and the Tractor Boys on goal difference
In a promotion six pointer the Tigers take the lead at Fratton Park. Sorry, Dave. Tigers two points clear at the top while Pompey third, two points behind Abe Lincoln
Forest Green takes the lead at the Orient Express . Forest now third in L2
Oldham has come from behind to take a 2-01 lead vs ten man Newort. Forest now second and Newport third
GOAL !!! JAMMY LENKO PUTS THE HAMMERS TWO UP
The Butler did it as a poor pass from Benhrama went straight to Andy Butler, who gifted possession back to Benhrama and the second time around Benhrama picked out Jammy Lenko with a nice slide rule pass and he scored with a great well placed lobbed finish past Balcombe in the Donny goal
More cup goals:
Swans two up vs Forest
Seagulls in the lead vs the Tangerines while Bristol City is in the lead at the Evil Den, which is not idle gossip
So far, no upsets this round in the cup
Evil Blades on top vs Bob's Argyle
Goals in L1
Swindon two up at Charlton
Motley Crewe ties it up vs the Real Dons
Oxford on top vs Bristol Rovers.
BTW that's not idle gossip
Bristol Rovers now in the drop zone and Real Dons back in. Northants back out
Ten man Newport ties it up at Oldham. Now Desmond as Newport back in second place
Gils on top vs Rochdale. Now Dale out of the drop zone by the slightest of goal difference ahead of Bristol Rovers
Rangers three up vs Ross County at the half
Just got home
I don't think I am going to tune in a match right now
I have the Blades match on 5Live
Blackpool ties it up at the AMEX
a p[air of stoppage time minutes at the London Stadium as a shot from Lanzini just over from just outside the box
Tangerines tie it up at the AMEX
welcome back, Dave. I'm watching Hammers vs Donny, which is a decent match. Hammers two up at the half and well in control
Second half underway from the London Stadium
I've had a bit of breakie and have tuned in the Brighton/Blackpool match on my computer with 5Live on the phone
Bob will not be pleased that Billy sharp has put the Evil Blades two up vs Argyle Sweater
Blades are two up
Balcombe dos well to turn away a curling free kick from Benhrama
That sounds like a an interesting tie from the AMEX
Nice turn from Lanzini then Balcombe does well to turn around a shot from Lnazini from just outside the box
Morecambe and Wise now up to sixth in L2 as they take the lead vs Colchester
Something has to happen with these teams and their weakened teams!
The Big Boys can put out some reserves and will still be strong.
I just hate the mid table and below teams putting out stupid teams...or the Championship teams doing the same.... SHOW RESPECT!!
Especially the British managers...they will have played in the Cup and known how precious it is!
What should they do for the Cup?
I was thinking about this... how about.... You win the Cup.... you can't be relegated!
If you win the Cup....you make at least the Play offs of your division
A shock in the Scots Championship as Raith Rovers is three up at runaway leaders, Hearts
Balcombe superbly tips over a long range volley from Soucek as the Butler headed away a cross. Off the corner Balcombe turns a header from Soucek off a cross from Benhrama
Hammers three up!
GOAL !!! HAMMERS GO THREE UP
Donny finally collapsed under the pressure as the corner from Mark Noble was back headed by a Donny defender then helped over the line for an OG as the Butler did it, Andy that is
Barnsley on top vs the Canaries
Hiya, boys - I'm back after my shoveling routine and a refreshing post-shoveling shower.
I see that the Happy Hammers are 3-0 up and cruising it against Donny.
Shame that the Blades are 2-0 up on Plymouth but I suppose that was expected. No real surprises as of yet.
That would definitely be a motivater. Additionally, teams like Wolves , who also flat out refuse to put forth any effort and basically take the entertainment from a cup tie
Seagulls retake the lead
Seagulls lead the Tangerines 2-1 while Bristol City two up at the Evil; Lions, which is not idle gossip
Big deflected shot.....rolls in the net
Welcome back, Bob. Only surprise was when the Tangerines were tied at the AMEX at the half and perhaps Barnsley on top vs the Canaries
Forest pulls one back at the Swans, trailing 2-1
Welcome back Bob
What do you think about my FA Cup idea
Rams take the lead at Loftus Road and are five points clear of the drop zone, but Rotherham have three games in hand
OH! Chance for Donny as a v half volley from Welsh international, Matt Smith skims off the top of the bar
Bugger....Hull double their lead at Fratton!
Bristol C three up at the Den
