Another Big Saturday in the Prem
Morning, chaps! I'm settling in with my morning cuppa and looking forwrrd to another big Saturday in the Premier League. First up is the Black Country Derby between Wolves and WBA. Then at 10am EST, my beloved Leeds United hosts Brighton. The Seagulls are the kind of side that we need to be be beating at home, so three points is a must to bounce back from our two successive 3-0 losses in recent weeks. The 12:30pm marquee match is the West London Derby between Chelsea and Fulham. Finally, the late one on Peacock features Leicester and Southampton. Join me for all of the usual action here on the LOB!

It’s the first Black Country derby for nine years. As with any other local rivalry, football’s most unappealing prize - bragging rights - are up for grabs. Three precious points are too, manna from heaven for a couple of teams struggling a little bit at present. As for me, though, a draw is probably the best result, which would leave both sides below Leeds.
Teams in the tunnel at Molineux:
Wolverhampton Wanderers: Rui Patricio, Nelson Semedo, Coady, Boly, Saiss, Dendoncker, Neves, Joao Moutinho, Traore, Silva, Pedro Neto.
Subs: Hoever, Ait Nouri, Gibbs-White, Vitinha, Ruddy, Cutrone, Shabani, Kilman, Corbeanu.
West Bromwich Albion: Button, O’Shea, Ajayi, Bartley, Gibbs, Livermore, Sawyers, Matheus Pereira, Snodgrass, Grosicki, Robinson.
Subs: Lonergan, Furlong, Robson-Kanu, Krovinovic, Ivanovic, Edwards, Peltier, Kipre, Field.
Referee: Michael Oliver (Northumberland).
Our old LUFC friend Robert Snodgrass makes his debut in WBA colors today after his move to the West Midlands this week.
Morning Bob,
I was going to be sleeping in this morning but I had to go pick up Jon from a friend's house... so I am here for kick off
Both theses sides below Leeds...do you want a draw?
Still very annoyed with NBC's crap tomorrow!
Decent effort from Boly well saved
Wily Boly with an early effort from distance, a little daisy cutter that Bulton had to get down smartly to smother.
Morning, Dave - great to have you on board early on.
Yeah - a draw would suit us best.
Well, well, well - it's an early penalty for the Baggies!
Penalty to West Brom..... I think VAR will move this outside the box
I think Michael Oliver has got it wrong and that VAR will bring it back - just outside the box, to my eye.
It has been given
Boly, what a Wally
Baggies take the lead!!
No - it's given as a penalty and the Baggies have a big chance.
Perreira steps up and...scores!
The Baggies are 0-1 up!
How does your tooth feel, mate?
I thought the same as you
That is why VAR frustrates me so much.... things are called by hair width...then others not
Tooth is doing well
Free kick chance for the Wanderers
Free kick now for Neves to hammer. Hit the wall with his effort.
The ex United keeper, Johnstone is out because of Covid.
I think this is the guy that dropped a real clanger in the last seconds at Newport and then went on to save 3 pens in the shoot out
On the strength of that goal, WBA have jumped into double figures on 11 points. They're still in 19th though, a point behind Fulham.
I was listening to 5Live in the car today and they have that silly sports quiz before the sports show starts
They had to come with thier the Sport 100s
Someone pointed out that a player CAN'T give more than 100%
Another guy said.... Swindon Town's one season in the Prem...93-94....they went into the last game of the season having conceded 95 goals... their opponents were Leeds. They were 2 nil down at half time... conceded three more in the second half... last one in the 90th minute
oooh.... Wolves want a pen... nothing given... again...wasn't that volleyball?
Big appeal for a handball on Kieran Gibbs there - VAR thought no.
Oh - Denconcker bursts through into the area but then hoiks his shot well over the mark. Wolves have responded well to going behind.
Again...you have nothing to worry about!!! You are CLOSER to Liverpool than you are Fulham
Cheers for posting the PPP standings... my one week on top
I've been watching some old vids recently.... so many tough tackles and players just get up. A lot was in the Prem... but now it is just saw pathetic with the screaming, writhing around or any contact is a foul
Drives me nuts
Oh - great cross over there but Dendoncker jumped a bit too early and couldn't get over the ball.
Traore with decent wide play....I miss it
Well, we typically have a mid-season hiccup, so I'm hoping that we can resist that and come back firing on all cylinders today. We've got plenty of matches with points in them to come against Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Southampton.
Traore is the one we're trying to buy right now. I don't fancy him, as we've got Raphinha, Helder Costa and Tyler Roberts in that position. If they were willing to sell us Conor Coady, then I'd get excited.
Big Sam brought up in the Black Country supporting Wolves
Born in Dudley... what other famous football name was born there?
I have no idea - who is it?
Duncan Edwards
Andy Townsend makes an insightful point for once. Wolves prefer to play on the break, so this is an uncomfortable one for them where WBA are dropping deep and giving them the bulk of possession.
I wonder what Duncan Edwards would have done for United and England if he had lived.
Of course, Kyle Bartley had a terrific season for Leeds on loan from Arsenal playing alongside Pontus Jansson in the heart of our defense.
So many people have said and the film of him shows he was so good for United and England
Not sure if he would have been in for Moore, next to him or in the midfield!
He was bigger and stronger than most out there and he passed the ball like Scholes
I just don't see Wolves' young striker Fabio Silva getting into good positions as their main target man. Saiss, Neto and Dendoncker actually have more chances from midfield positions.
Free kick chance now for the Baggies.
Oh - what a chance! Good save, Rui Patricio!
And now Wolves have a free kick from a similar position.
Baggies are attacking
Fat Sam doesn't seem to know how to wear a mask. Mask up, you wally!
Ajayi goes into the book for a cynical one there breaking up the Wolves counter.
Nero earns a good free kick now out wide left. Snoddy gave it up - he appears to be playing a lot deeper in this WBA set-up.
Modern day... empty stands... scream like a little baby...win a free kick
GOAL! Fabio Silva finally comes good for Wolves!
1-1!
And Wolves tie it up
Cool finish by the aforementioned striker
Lovely backheel there from Boly after the ball dropped to him and the young striker slotted it home calmly.
They paused the vid fro the first pass
Its as the second one that could have been offside but there was a defender sitting on the ground behind him
This scoreline suits me just fine now, so let's just settle it down boys.
Wolves now level on points with but with much worse GD and having played two more matches.
Traore would be great at Leeds
I want us to join the group of teams on 26 points - Villa, Chelsea and West Ham.
GOAL
BOLY involved again!!!
Bloody hell - Wolves have turned it around. Boly with a tap in from the corner. Fat Sam will be livid with that defending!
2-1!
Gives away the pen, assists on a goal and now scores a goal
I love how Big Sam is supposed to tighten up the defense... and they are leaking goals all over the place
Boly has been the main man today - one penalty given away, one assist and now one goal. Will he get sent off in the second half?
WBA have a worse goals against record than Leeds - they're up to 40 conceded now. We've conceded 33.
Boro 0 Brum 1 coming up to half time in the Championship
Oh - Kieran Gibbs arrived at the backpost and had a chance from a volley. Well wide.
That's the half-time whistle then in this absorbing Black Country Derby. Wolves were down in the dumps after conceding an early pen but they're back in charge now after goals from Fabio Silva and Wily Boly.
Good morning, Bob and Dave. Up after a late lie in
The second half is underway from Molineaux
Teams out of the second half
I might skip out at some point in this half to shower and shave
I have to walk Shadow before the Leeds match
I'm back for the second half now with the traditional LOB brekkies - a cuppa and a bagel and banana.
Meanwhile Brum one up at the Riverside
Morning David
I was planning to sleep thru this match in its entirety !
Fabio Silva wins a Wolves corner
scramble in the box... almost another one for the hosts
Traore heads on the corner and Fabio Silva with a shot blocked for another corner. Boli heads well wide off the next corner from Pedro Neto
Black Cats one up at the Real Dons
GOAL
DESMOND!
GOAL! Oh yes! The Baggies are back in it!
Ajayi nods home a header - another set piece goal!
2-2!
Have a look at a foul.... There was nothing!!
They are ruining this sport!!!
It stands
Molineux would be going nuts right now with a full house
GOAL !!! DESMOND AT MOLINBEAUX ! LONG THROW HEADED ON BY KYLE BARTLEY THEN HEADED BY AJAYIAS RUI PATRICIO WAS AJAR IN THE WOLVES GOAL
Ajayi headed in the key equalizer at Anfield off a set piece as he has today
Bloody hell - Wolves have conceded another penalty!
Conor Coady upending Robinson.
AND NOW THERE A PENALTY FOR THE BAGGIES!
Coady pleads his case....he did clip his ankle!
It is a pen
PENALTY BAGGIES . CONNOR COADY CALLED FO R A TRIP ON PERREIRA. IT LOOKS A DIVE, LOOKING AT THE REPLAY
Now then - Perreira up again...
And scores! 2-3 now!
3-2 to the Baggies !
What a match this is turning into now!
GOAL !!! BAGGIES LEAD 2-3 . PERREIRA SCORES WITH HIS SECOND SPOT KICK OIF THE MATCH , SENDING RUI PATRICIO THE WRONG WAY.
I guess I can't bugger off for a shower!
Morning, David - welcome to this one. It's been a real thrill-fest!
Cally Robinson tripped in the box, not Perreria
So I need another Wolves goal now.
Morgan Gibbs-White, who had been on loan at the Swans, on for Ruben Neves
There's talk abut Brucey's job on the line and rightly so,.How about Nuno? Wolves is on a poor run and can ill afford a loss today
Oh - Robinson had a chance there. Put it wide!
Baggies almost in again
CaLly Robinson should have given the Baggies a two goal lead. Received a nice pass , turned Connor Coady then shot wide with just Rui Patricio to beat
So, David, your better half Elizabeth posted on FB that she's in desperate need of a haircut. Are you going to give it go?
Since I've been watching , the Baggies have played some good stuff, which is unusual for a Fat Sam side
I'm in desperate need too. We agreed to wait until we get vaccinated.
Wolves skipper, Connor Coady, replaced by French under 21 international, Ryan Ait-Nouri. Looks like Wolves is going from a back four to a back three
Coady being swapped off now - he hands his armband off to Boly. Surprising.
Baggies now three points from safety as things stand with all their points on the road since Fat Sam took over.
For some reason Connor Coady had an off day
Oh - Boly was nearly in there at the corner. Bartley just about put him off.
Grosicki comes off and Hal Robson-Kanu comes on, a return from injury.
Wolves corner headed out for another by Kyle Bartley under pressure from Willy Boli then the next corner headed well wide from Boli. Both quality corners from Pedro Neto
Then like for like as Hal Robson-Kanu is on for Grosicki, who had a good match in his first match for the Baggies in a while
Two close range shots from Fabio Silva well blocked by Kyle Bartley, who has a had a solid match utilizing what he learned at LUFC and the Gunners
Long range shot from Fabio Silva well wide
Coady is in my fantasy team... I benched him.. -5 points!
Good move on my part
DenDONK... Donks the bloke in the head with his foot
Dendoncker concedes a free kick to the Baggies, taken by Snoddy on his Baggies debut
Snoddy a January signing for Fat Sam and a typically astute signing from him as Snoddy wasn't getting games for the Hammers. At 33 he will be a key player
Great run and pass from Pedro Neto down the left and a great cross from him is headed over by Traore
Another good bit of wide play... take on man to the byline and cross the ball!
WHY is that frowned upon.....BLOODY PEP
I just need one more Wolves goal - come on!
TWO 3 o'clockers today!
Leeds and Brighton on NBCSN
The other match is the Claret and Blue party.... and Villa aren't invited!
This keeps Wolves behind you!!
Meslier not in goal for Leeds
Cutrone on for Moutinho on the final roll of the dice for Nuno the Spiritly Saint
Agreed, Dave - that's why I love that we play with two wide men.
Leeds keeper not even on the bench
Really? Who's in goal then?
From the Beeb
A surprise absence between the sticks for Leeds. Young keeper Illan Meslier is missing with former Real Madrid man Kiki Casilla - who some Leeds fans criticised for his performance in the embarrassing FA Cup defeat at Crawley – starting once again.
Oh - Catrone had a chance there on the volley. Volleyed it into the ground and over.
Phillips is suspended for 5 yellows
That's really surprising, especially Kiko's performance against Crawley. I wonder what happened?
A defensive move from Fat Sam .Darnell Furlong, A right back, on for Perreira
Yeah - I knew that one. That's why he played the whole match against Crawley. I suspect that Pascal Struijk will be used in that defensive middie role.
David Button in goal for the Baggies for the injured Sam Johnstone
Didn't travel
Of course....people first think... COVID
Not sure what happened to Meslier. He's not even on the subs bench. I agree with Bob that starting Casilla is odd after the mare at Crawley. Nineteen year old Italian, Elia Caprile, the keeper on the Leeds bench today. He was signed last February
Wolves piling forward now looking for that equalizer.
Now Fabio Silva has gone into the book for simulation.
Fabio Silva booked for diving as he goes down in the Baggies box
A Barber Shop Quartet of stoppage time minutes. Will Fat Sam be part of that group singing about his first Baggies win?
Corner to Wolves now - this one has to fly in!
Liverwurst concedes a Wolves corner
If the Baggies win then all the goals in the win and draw for Fat Sam will have been from set pieces in those matches
Cue the Fat Sam mythology again. (sigh)...
Big Sam will take so much credit for this win...when they lose...it is the players' fault
That is it
Baggies have won
I am off to shower and shave
I'll be back
Pedro Neto with a cross blocked for a corner and the final whistle blown as the Baggies win 2-3 in Fat Sam's first ever win as Baggies boss. Baggies now three points from safety , but a far inferior goal difference
That's it - WBA have won the Black Country Derby. A huge win for them. They're up to 11 points, but still in 19th.
Off for walkies on a cool morning
Next up - the big one for me. Leeds hosting the Seagulls at the sacred Elland Road ground.
Speaking of Derby....did you see that Rooney has been named permanent manager and has now officially retired as a player
Was he underrated as a player?
The full team news for the big one:
Leeds: Casilla, Dallas, Ayling, Cooper, Alioski, Struijk, Raphinha, Rodrigo, Klich, Harrison, Bamford. Subs: Poveda-Ocampo, Roberts, Llorente, Helder Costa, Hernandez,
Davis, Caprile, Shackleton, Jenkins.
Brighton: Sanchez, Webster, Dunk, Burn, Veltman, White, Gross, March, Mac Allister, Maupay, Trossard. Subs: Bissouma, Alzate, Tau, Propper, Zeqiri, Walton, Sanders, Khadra, Jenks.
Referee: Kevin Friend.
The only real surprise there is Casilla in goal. Otherwise, it's the side that you would have imagined.
Great comments about Leeds now.
The other one is West Ham v. Burnley. That's 10th vs. 16th, so of course I'm looking for a home win for the Happy Hammers.
Teams out on the pitch - MOT!
I am back squeaky clean and ready for the Big Match!
When are they going to stop all this lining up like it is an international.... another thing I hate about the modern game
Did they say anything about Meslier being out?
Back from walkies and have both matches on.
Come on, you Whites!
We are off at Elland Road
Come on Leeds
Come on Leeds
Come on Leeds
Theyr'e off from ER
COME ON LEEDS!
MOT
I want to hit them early and often to settle the nerves.
They're off from the London Stadium in the Claret and Sky Blue Derby
Definitely, Bob. The Seagulls are not really geared to come from behind. They're better set up for holding on to leads
Hate all this "naive" talk!
They aren't....they are playing the way they want to play!!
The pitch looks really ripped up - I wonder why? We haven't played at home for weeks now.
I hate it, too, Dave. They don't get it.
5Live is at Ellland Road.
I am continuing to listen to it for updates. It is about the same time as NBC
That wasn't a foul...Ayling just fell over
Just a reminder that Leeds vs Saints canceled on Wednesday and with the cup next weekend Leeds next match won't be for at least another ten days
Leeds passing it around the back... stop playing like every other Prem team!!
I also hate that . Love the way Leeds play
I saw pictures of snow in Leeds this week...that may have affected the pitch
Grass looks long too
They are mentioning the snow
League leaders Canaries in the lead at Cardiff
Leeds have started slowly here...not liking it
Not the fast start that I'd wanted. Come on!
Brum won 0-1 at the Riverside preventing Evil Neil's lads moving into t a playoff spot
Oooh.... close by Leeds....get a touch!!
Not a bright start...took 5 minutes to get started
Oh - great ball in from Alioski and Rodrigo really should have scored there. Just couldn't reach it.
Cardiff 0 Norwich 1
Black Cats won 0-3 at the Real Dons thanks to a Charlie Wyke hat-trick. Real Dons now in the drop zone
It's the return today of Ben White, who was on loan from Brighton to us last year. He was a key element of our Championship winning side.
Posh takes the lead v the Fake Dons as does Rochdale vs Wigan
Neither of you commented about my Rooney question?
GOAL !!!ANTONIO GIVES THE HAMMERS THE LEAD
Bloody hell - a big shout as Maupay went down. Ref not impressed. Looks like a dive to me. Phew!
Brighton wants a pen....a dive
BOOK HIM
Hammers happy...one nil...Antonio
That's good news for us - we want Burnley exactly where they are right now.
Antonio with a close range far post volley off a great cross
I agree, Dave - Maupay should have been booked for that.
Slow start from Leeds... are you Man U in disguise?
Don't know why he went down....he had space to take a shot!!
I never thought Roon was underrated . In fact we often complained about him during matchers on the LOB. If anything I thought he was slightly overrated
We're not really moving it about the way I'd like. Too many long balls out of the back.
Cambridge take the lead
Donny Osmond in the lead at Swindon. Marie says they're in fourth place while Swindon third from bottom
I know what you mean but.... he is England's all time scorer...he is Man Utd's all time scorer.... that's not bad!
Argyle Sweater on top vs Motley Crewe while Wigan ties it up at Rochdale
