The 3rd Round FA Cup Magic Begins!
Afternoon, chaps! This is always one of my favorite moments of the footie season. The 3rd Round of the FA Cup may not mean a lot to the big moneymen in the game these days, but it's still magical to me. Marine v. Spurs - what a fixture?! So, I'm looking forward to settling in to watch the two matches on offer this afternoon. I hope you'll join me for the proceedings from 2:45pm EST onward on the Plus.

The two fixtures on tap this afternoon are Villa v. Liverpool and Wolves v. Palace, two all-Premier League matches.
The match at Villa Park had been threatened earlier in the week but Villa have been cleared to run out a side of Academy kids - and why not?
Here are the line-ups for the match at Villa Park tonight. It's essentially Liverpool Reserves against a bunch of guys you've never heard of before.
Aston Villa: Onodi, Bridge, Revan, Walker, Rowe, Chrisene, Barry, Kesler, Sylla, Raikhy, Bogarde.
Subs: Zych, Jay-Hart, Sohna, Tait, Rowe, Young, Swinkels, Ealing, Lindley.
Liverpool: Kelleher, N Williams, R Williams, Fabinho, Milner, Wijnaldum, Jones, Mane, Minamino, Salah.
Subs: Alisson, Thiago, Firmino, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Origi, Shaqiri, Robertson, Phillips, Alexander-Arnold.
Good Afternoon, Bob. I'll be joining you for the first half hour of the match then have a business matter to tend to.
You never know in the Cup, but I expect Pool to thrash the Villa youngsters. The entire Pool lineup has first team experience while tevery Villa player will be making his first team debut, I believe. I'll be rooting for Pool to win by double figures or more
Welcome, David - we're underway at Villa Park. I'm in the middle of helping out Kate with baking a cake. I'll be back in a tick after we get them in the oven.
GOAL! That didn't take long!
As expected, Liverpool have taken full advantage. Great cross over by Niko Williams and Mane powered a header in!
0-1!
Good Afternoon. I saw the goal headed in by Mane off a cross from Neco Williams. Clueless defending
I hope Pool win by double figures. It will teach Villa a lesson unless they don't care about the Cup. Pool must have about 90% possession
Long Villa free kick basically a pass to Kelleher. First time the ball has gone in the Pool half
Oh - Winnie should have made it 0-2 - a big miss!
Half volley from Wijnaldum over . Should have put Pool two up
Villa playing with a back ten. Not sure what they're teaching them at the Villa academy. All they have done is lump the ball and sit back and be spectators , watching Pool pass it about
Hiya Lads,
In and out because I have to help Eric find a mechanic. The quote he got for a $300 part is gonna scalp him.
How on earth is this match still playable?
The cake is in the oven and I'm here full time now.
So far this reminds me of Feltwell vs Swansea City under 15s.
Welcome, Steve - how's your week been. Give my best to Eric on that Subaru part issue.
Don't remind me of that ritual thrashing - cor!
The latest stats : Pool with 89% possession. Villa have completed nine out of nineteen passes and are zero for nine on long balls
Good afternoon, Steve. A great description. Villa had the option of playing the under 23s or forfeiting . They chose this option
Wishing Eric the best on the repair. I need to leave in about ten minutes. , but will be around all day tomorrow
No sympathy for Villa if they lose 20-0, which they probably won't
Wolves and Palace are goalless half way through the first half of that fixture.
Shot from Wijnaldum blocked by Bridge for a corner
Actually, the Villa kids aren't doing half bad so far. San Marino would have let six in by now!
Neco Williams with a cross deflected for a corner
Nice double save from the Villa keeper off the corner
Villa keeper is doing his best.
First Villa attack and Luoie Barry wins a Villa corner
Oh - Liverpool could have gone 0-2 up again as Firmino and then Mane came close.
These Villa youngsters will be exhausted by the end of the match
Pass from Neco Williams cleared by Bridge fo9r a corner
Surprised that David hasn't given Necco his LOB nom de plume Necco Wafter yet.
Corner headed well over by Fabinho . Should have done better
Fabinho should have gotten over the top of that corner and put it on target.
LOL, Steve. You're well ahead of me on that
Wafer.
Cross from Hayden headed away for a corner as Fabinho was faffing about in midfield
Cross from Wijnaldum headed into the ground by Salah and straight to the Villa keeper
Hey Boys,
I have been watching the two matches. Again, I will only be here until HT
Can't believe that it's still only 1-0. This should be a cricket score already. Liverpool have taken the day off
Every time I see that linesman, he seems poured into his top. Isn't there a larger size for him, or one that could accommodate his stab-vest?
Wolves take the lead... nice goal by the Leeds target
I need to leave to tend to a business matter. Wish I could chat longer. Will be around tom morrow . Cheers
I want a Villa corner so that that that lad in the center named Mungo gets on the scoresheet.
Laters David.
ONE ONE..... Villa have equalized!
Hahahahahahahahahah!
Oh my goodness! Villa have equalized!
Louis Barry was played through one-on-one with Kelleher and he finished with aplomb!
1-1!
Did my mate Mungo get that assist?
Welcome, Dave - great timing!
I am not in the same corner as most of you
I want Villa to win.... anything to knock Liverpool down!!
I don't think the Villa players have ignored the Covid protocol... I think they just got it!
I've been here a while....I've just been ignored!
Come on Villa...hold on until half time
I would love Klopp to have more kittens....have him mention that Man Utd teenagers get more penalties than his team!
Awww.
Curtis Jones sticks out a leg and picks up a yellow - Liverpool look rattled now.
I felt like crying
Last minute for Liverpool.....cleared...shot... blocked off the line
Blow up... the minute is up and Liverpool won't get it in the box
A shot...saved!
Half time
HT at Molineux too
Wolves up 1-0
Oh - Curtis Jones with a nice curler that's parried away.
And that's half-time. The Villa kids are holding the Premier League champions 1-1.
I am off to pick up Kathy again...come on you Villans!!
The Villa kids are running back out, and no wonder! They've been terrific in this match.
Cheerio, mate!
Thiago coming on for Hendo - not exactly the most attacking change. Like for like.
As it stands, this one is heading for a replay at Anfield, something probably neither club would look forward to.
Salah forces one home but it's ruled out for a foul on the keeper by the Egyptian. Lovely move though.
I had a return phone call about Eric's car. Still not a quote, but interest.
Does this go to a replay or straight to pens if it's still a draw?
Shame - hope it gets sorted out soon. It's that kind of week. We were on the phone with Shaz for two hours last night getting an update on his catastrophe.
I think it's still a replay in the FA Cup, no?
GOAL! Winnie puts Liverpool back in the lead. Nice placement on the shot.
1-2!
Yeah, unwelcome for both of us. Shazza's blockage looked hideous.
1-3! Mane with a looping header!
The kids are falling apart now. Mane makes it 3-1.
There's another for the pros from Dover. This is over as a contest now.
1-4! Mo Salah with a turn and shot into the corner. Liverpool are finally imposing themselves on this one.
Still - the kids can hold their heads high. They've been good tonight but there is an obvious gulf in quality.
I liked how composed Barry was to take his goal, and I think this keeper has promise as well.
I've been watching some of the Leeds reserves matches on YouTube recently ahead of match against Crawley on Sunday. We've got some really good Academy kids coming through. Charlie Cresswell, a 17 year old center back really caught my eye. He's in the first team now and may well get a call up if our defenders keep getting crocked.
Revan, the Villa fullback wearing 42, has looked good too.
Some changes now for Villa - not surprising, as the kids are getting to get gassed.
I love opportunities to watch the reserves. We've got a storming little prospect named Patino that hasn't made his first team debut yet. And it looks increasingly likely that we're moving Nketiah on to make room for Balogun so he doesn't demand a move on.
There's even mention today that Willian might get loaned out to Newcastle to make even further room in our bloated squad.
In the other match, Wolves are still leading 1-0 through that Adama Traore goal.
Firmino in there but a bit greedy. Should have at least fired his shot across the keeper.
Apparently the scuttlebutt on Eddie during his time with us is that he didn't work hard enough in training for Bielsa's liking. Of course, he is a bit of a maniac about training.
It's been a shame to see Willian not work out; I thought he'd be a great little player for you.
That's what Arteta seems to think. Moving him on to someone who likes him may be Eddie's best bet.
Two added minutes now to come. This one was really over from the moment that Mane scored his second.
We should have pressed Chelsea 3 years ago about Willian. He was such a classy player for them and they just didn't deserve him.
That's that, then. The Villa kids held Liverpool at bay for a bit but eventual the Reds' quality held out.
Villa are out but they've gotten a glimpse of the future.
Right. That's me out until tomorrow. Cheerio everyone who is still here.
I'm off to help out Kate with some cooking. By the way, your birthday box came today. Thanks for that - looking forward to getting into that at midnight Monday night.
See you tomorrow for the matches - good luck with Eric's car!
