Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Afternoon, chaps - I'm joining the match just a few minutes late tonight, having raced back from campus. I did some office hours and a COVID test this morning.
The teams on display at Shite Fart tonight:
Spurs: Lloris; Aurier, Sanchez, Dier, Reguilon; Sissoko, Hojbjerg; Lucas, Ndombele, Son; Kane
Subs: Alderweireld, Alli, White, Hart, Davies, Bergwijn, Winks, Vinicius
Brentford: Raya; Dalsgaard, Pinnock, Beck Sorensen, Henry; DAsilva, Janelt, Jansen; Mbeuno, Toney, Canos
Subs: Daniels, Forss, Fosu, Ghoddos, Gilbert, Haygarth, Marconedes, Rasmussen, Stevens
Referee: M Dean
Good afternoon, Bob. Hope everything goes well with the COVID test and class prep
In terms of the PPP, Yours Truly picked Spurs to win the competition and Pink Kits picked the Bees
This is probably Spurs' best chance at the first silverware they've won in 13 years.
Hiya, David - thanks for joining in this afternoon. Had a really good day on campus. Still a month away from the start of the semester, so it's all rather relaxed.
IN L1 Oxford United vs Donny Trump cancelled due to COVID.I thought Donny Trump already had COVID
GOAL !!! CISSY GIVES THE SPUDS THE LEAD
GOAL! Sissoko rises to nod home for your PPP pick. Pink Kits is down in the dumps about it.
1-0 Spuds.
Hey Boys
I am here only for the first half
Gotta pick up Kathy from work and then off to Albany
If they play the Mourinho way, they'll now drop back into their shell and allow Brentford to dominate possession.
Will Jose just sit back now?
Oh - Son raps one on goal there, which David Raya is able to parry away.
Bees stung by poor defending. Ball played wide left by Dier to Regulon and his cross headed in the upper 90 by Cissy, who was wide open
That's my hunch, Dave. He'll want to rest players for that titanic Cup fixture against Marine at the weekend!
Good afternoon, Dave. Glad you made it in time for the goal
40 positive Covid Test in Prem this last week
Highest number
I think Spurs will sit try to sting the Bees on the break. Good point, Bob. That's a massive cup tie for Spurs this weekend
Did you hear what Klopp said last night?
Team lost to Southampton.... so he decides to say United have had more penalties in two years than his time at Liverpool(he was wrong btw)
Is that a Rafa FACTS moment?
Is he planting the seed for a pen at Anfield next weekend?
I saw that a couple of hours ago. A sadly high number even though they're now testing twice a week instead of once . Still too high
I think he's planning for the match and trying to avoid answering why his side lost yesterday and are winless in three
He used to always have a smile...now he's just a sourpuss
Elizabeth and I listened to a two minute clip of Boris Johnson's lockdown speech. No school or university till mid February and Summer Exams canceled . Why aren't we doing this?
Who'da thunk it.... Liverpool in the last three games... dropped 7 out of 9 points.....to WBA, Newcastle and Southampton!
LOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNG may it continue
Jus t a reminder I picked Spurs to win the LC. The reason is that Jose seems to do well in this competition. I think Pink Kits picked the Bees
Regulon fouls Bryan Mbuemo
Free kick headed well wide by the well marked Ethan Pinnock
First real chance for the Bees half way into the first half. A bit of a dinosaur move from Thomas Frank's side - lumping a big ball from halfway into the box. Comes to nothing.
Bob picked United beaten Spurs.....I am hoping he's right!!
Sounds like Klopp was a spoilsport.
The Bees under Frank normally play good stuff. Not like them to lump it long.
I am still alive too
I picked City beating Spurs
Rico Henry the best Henry since Tony
I've been watching all of Marcelo Bielsa daily pressers on YouTube recently. It's irritating to have to listen to all of the translating because his English is like my Spanish (read: nonexistent). But the man is hilarious!
I picked Spurs beating Chelsea in the final, but that happened in the Fourth Round. Dave's pick seems spot on
He must speak some English...how can he communicate with his team?
I hope Bob will be!!!
Jayne Mansfield two up vs Salford
I speak a little Spanish after six month of lessons. I might understand part of his conversation
Can Ollie stop the rot of three semi finals losses in a row!
It was like United pre-76.... Best and co lost quite a few.... some to Bloody Leeds!!
I don't think Bielsa speaks English. In one interview an English coach who speaks Spanish translated for him
I think he communicates through a translator, just like in the pressers.
My favorite bit recently was when he was asked if there are any good nicknames in the dressing room. Marcelo's response:
"Well, I am told that the boys like to call Adam Forshaw "Sausage." I do not know why."
Classic!
Plus is well behind 5Live.... hate it
I think my Spanish is better than Bielsa's English. He could learn the language if he really wanted to.
I think those three semi losses from best and Co. were with different managers in charge . Is that correct or was it mainly McGuiness?
Not sure who was in charge
A question about Marine vs Spurs. I think it will be the first time ever that a top flight team is playing a team from the 8th tier. If so that's the greatest gap in the pyramid in a Cup tie in FA Cup history. Is that right?
We lost in the 69 European Cup semi final too!
As long as he stays at the club, I don't care if he speaks Bulgarian with the squad. I've also been watching Reserves matches (yes, Kate thinks I'm obsessed) on YouTube. They play exactly the same way - really loose and the back and bombing forward in numbers like the Red Arrows. That side is likely to be run out against Crawley on Sunday.
hey year Cardiff City lost to Pompey in the final they needed two late goals to beat 8th tier Chasetown 1-3 in the Third Round in 2008
I reckon that you're right, David. If Marine were any lower on the pyramid, Spurs would be playing a side on the Hackney Marshes.
We won the Cup in 63
Made the Final in 76
FA Cup Semi Final losses in between
64 lost to West Ham
65 lost to Leeds
66 lost to Everton
70 lost to Leeds
Sir Matt for the 69 Euro semi loss with McGuiness for the loss to Leeds in the Cup semi and vs third Division Villa in the LC semi
Bees swarming in their hive as two decent shots are well blocked
Sir Mat for 64, 65 and 66
Bloody Leeds
Good pressure from The Bees now.
Great save
Superb finger tip save by David Raya from a lucas Moura header off the corner from Number One Son
Oh - great save by Raya from a header by Lucas Moura!
LOL, Bob. One division down and Spurs could face Mildenhall Town if they were to survive to the Third Round
Will Jose show Marine respect or try to mock and humiliate them for being amateurs?
Mildenhall have a nice little stadium now...just past the swimming pool
Dean Ashton spot on about footballers being privileged and needing to fulfill their responsibilities.
I think I lived just around the corner from there if it's near the roundabout
A minute of stoppage time
Spurs one up at the half thanks to an early header from Cissy
Remember, the swimming pool was past Bussen, Snushell's and then take a left
There is a big Sainsburys there now too
Right where the Social Club was... I made the paper one when Tony and I won the last two matches to give Judes Ferry victory in darts
The halftime whistle goes. Spurs trot in 1-0 up but the Bees are still in this one. If Spurs drop off in their energy in the second half, Brentford have the quality to hit them back.
*made the paper ONCE
I am off
take care boys
TTFN
I remember that swimming pool well and can imagine where the stadium is. There was a footer field back there that I suspect you played on with your Safepac side. That's where the fair used to pitch up every fall.
Teams coming back out for the second half now; no changes to either side.
Cheers Dave. Great chatting with you
Based on the description We were just around the corner. We were a two minute walk from Snushells. Great Mildenhall stories
Second half underway from SFL II
Powerful shot from Sergio Canos well blocked by Dier
That's poor form from Harry Kane. A routine foul by Canos, who's already been booked, and the England skipper was urging Mike Dean to send him off.
Sergio Canos fouls Lucas Moura, Expect better conduct than seen by Harry Kane , trying to get Canos sent off. Horrible behavior. Expect better from the England captain. You would never see Bobby Moore acting like that
Great block by Aurier from Ivan Toney after Mbuemo got past Davinson Sanchez
Oh - Toney was in there but Aurier blocked his effort superbly.
I loved reading your story about your parents faculty party. He was in education at the right time. Now it would be on the news if the police were called and reported to the State Board of Education. Tougher now to be in education even though I would have loved to have been there
As predicted, Spurs are just defending their narrow lead. Mourinho keeps saying that he keeps telling his players to keep attacking but I don't believe a word of that.
Mbeumo booked for a foul on Regulon just outside the Bees box
In go the wall by Harry Kane . Not sure if the Free kick is worse or his conduct minutes earlier
Regulon booked for a cynical challenge on Ivan Toney
Kane smashes a free kick into the Brentford wall and then Reguilon picks up a yellow card for a hack on Toney who was breaking away.
The corner from Number One Son more like Sanford and Son, being into junk
Dean Ashton Said Spurs hanging on to 1-0 to conserve energy. Is Jose that concerned about the trip to Marine
We're nearing the hour mark, so there should be some changes coming. Free kick comes to nothing. Spurs have been resolute against set pieces so far.
OH! Volley from N umber One Son just wide off a cross from Cissy
Hard to believe that the final is not until April 25th
Long Bees throw bac headed by Cissy then sliced by Regulon for a Bees corner
GOAL! Ivan Toney has equalized for the Bees! That one was coming.
It's going to go to a VAR check for offside. it looks as if his knee was slightly off.
GOAL !!! BEES TIE IT UP OFF THE CORNER . IVAN TONEY MISSED THE HEADER THEN ETHAN PINOOCK HEADED ACROSS THE BOX AND IVANM TONEY HEADED IN. VAR CHECKING TO SEE IOF TONEY WAS OFFSIDE
Shame - it's ruled out for offside.
Looks like it's going to be disallowed. It is since Toney's knee was slightly offside. A shame
Aurier down off an awkward landing
That was a reminder to Spurs - who shouldn’t need one after recent events - of the danger of not extending a one-goal lead.
GOAL !!! NUMBER ONE SON PUTS SPURS TWO UP ON THE COUNTER AND ALL BUT IN THE FINAL
GOAL! Typical Spurs - one precision counter-attack and Son finishes with aplomb.
2-0 Spurs. A long way back for the Bees now.
Nice through ball from N'Dummy off a pass from Hoyberg then a great finish from Number One Son past David Raya
Reguilon off now and Ben Davies coming on. Harry Winks on for Lucas Moura as well.
Got to rest up for the Marine, eh?
Ben Davies for Regulon which is like for like and Harry Winks for Lucas Moura which is Moura of a defensive switch
Absolutely, mate. It will be some tough fish for Little Joe to fry on Sunday
Spurs all but in the final to face one of the Manc clubs on April 25th.
Marcondes on now for some additional firepower for Brentford.
The Bees are going to have to throw the kitchen sink at Spurs now.
Double swap from Thomas Frank. Tariq Fosu for Sergio Canos and Emiliano Marcondes for Janelt
I hope the Bees hit Jose with the kitchen sink
The final roll of the dice from Thomas Frank as Marcus Forss is on for Bryan Mbuemo. Let's hope he's an attacking Forss for the Bees
Mbeumo ballooned a header well over and then got the hook from Thomas Franks.
VAR check now for a possible red card for Da Silva. He did go in studs up so he may be in trouble. It is red for Da Silva. Brentford are down to ten men.
The Dean of officials checking the VAR screen for a challenge on Hoy Berg. Looks a tad nasty . Josh Da Silva sent off which I feared would happen and that about ends the Bees hopes of a comeback
Nasty gash on Hojberg's leg walking off now.
I agree, mate - it's over and out for The Bees. Pink Kits is distraught about that. She's only got four points right now.
Blood on the shin of Hoy Berg and Jose has to restrain him. Tanganga on for Hoy Berg on the final roll of the dice for Little Joe
YIKES! Feel sympathy for Pink Kits. Several of has picked Spuds to make the final. I have them winning it but nor sure if they can defeat one of the Manc clubs
Bees look very similar to Leeds in terms of style of play. Would be a good addition to the Prem
Carlos Vinicius on for Number One Son
I agree - on this form, Spurs will struggle to beat either City or United.
I agree - Brentford would be a good addition alongside the return of the Canaries.
A quintet of stoppage time minutes
Shot from Rico Henry over after Daalsgaard had a shot blocked
I forgot about the Canaries. Definitely them and the Bees are fun to watch
Aurier fouls Rico Henry just outside the box
Lloris grabs the free kick from Marcondes in a crowd of players
Long range shot from Harry Kane is high and wide
It's over as Spurs defeat the Bees 2-0 and will face one of the Manc clubs in the final on April 25th
That's it - Spurs are into the League Cup Final for this year. They'll be matched up with one of the Manc clubs.
I'll look forward to chatting with you lot tomorrow.
Cheerio!
Cheers. Great chatting with you and look forward to chatting during the big Manc Derby tomorrow
