Footie or Impeachment - That is the Question
Happy Wednesday, fellas! I've got mixed loyalties today. We've got two intriguing top v. bottom Premier League matches on board. At the same time, the House of Representatives is set to impeach Donald Trump for a historic second time. So, I'm posting this here for us to chatter but I'll be a bit in and out of festivities for obvious reasons.

Good Afternoon, Bob. Thanks for posting the thread. I'm opting for the footie as I don't know if I can handle watching hours of impeachment proceedings
Both matches important at both ends of the table. If both Citeh and Spurs win then they will be third and fourth as the table will start to take more of a normal look. If the Cottagers win and the Seagulls lose with a four goal swing then the Seagulls would replace the Cottagers in the drop zone.
Manchester City: Ederson, Cancelo, Stones, Dias, Zinchenko, Rodri, Silva, Mahrez, Gundogan, Foden, De Bruyne.
Substitutes: Steffen, Walker, Sterling, Fernandinho, Jesus, Torres, Harwood-Bellis, Mbete-Tatu.
Brighton: Sanchez, Webster, Dunk, Burn, Veltman, White, Propper, Bernardo, Tau, Mac Allister, Trossard.
Substitutes: Maupay, Gross, March, Zeqiri, Walton, Sanders, Khadra, Jenks, Weir.
I know that United are top of the league....I think City will win it all. I thought they had fallen too far behind but they have been on a roll as of late. A win today would move City up to 3rd pending the Spurs match...A win from their game in hand(Villa away) they would be a point behind United and a point ahead of the Liverpool
Good afternoon, Dave. I agree with you about Citeh as do the bookies who have made them odds on favorites to win the Prem
I don't think are odds on but... they should be favorites
BLOODY PEP
Ederson's first game back for Citeh since having COVID while U.S. international keeper, Zack Steffen deputized in his absence. Scotty Parkernot happy at being given 48 hours notice that the Cottagers had a Premier League match
On Sky Sports news the newscaster had stated Citeh were odds on. Not sure if he's correct.
Afternoon, chaps!
Good Afternoon, Bob. Exhausted from watching the impeachment?
I agree that you should be worried about Citeh, who have been in good form of late. I don't think that there is any side who will run away with the league but Citeh and United will both be in the mix. We're nearly half way through the season and no one has earned 40 points yet. So, given that, the winner is likely to get only around 80 points, a really low total for a champion.
Hiya, David - it's full steam ahead with the impeachment now. The initial resolution was approved this morning and they're on to the full House debate now. It'll be interesting to see how many GOP reps vote in favor because that will indicate how serious the threat to Trump is in the Senate.
Of course, I'm on the Citeh train this afternoon. Brighton are our opponents on Saturday, and I'd love to see them humbled today. A couple of red card suspensions would be lovely, too.
Citeh start this one in sixth, but with two matches in hand. If they were to win both matches, they'd be in second, a mere point behind United.
It's an interesting season. That will be the lowest total for a Prem champion since the Foxes won with around 80 points
Interesting, Bob. I think there is more GOP support in the Senate for impeachment then the house. Trump may be like Andrew Johnson, escaping impeachment by a vote.
Brighton are in 17th, perilously close to relegation. Fulham below them have two matches in hand are only three points behind. If they get hammered by Citeh and Fulham pull off a miraculous win against Spurs, Brighton would be in the dropzone later on this evening.
The only issue is that 67 Senators have to vote in order to convict. That's 49 Dems plus 18 Repubs. I'm not even sure that 17 Repubs will vote to convict; my guess is more like 5 or 6 moderates (Romney, Collins, Murkowski, Sasse, and so on).
They're off from the Etihad with Ian Darke and Jim Beglin the talking heads
I had read anywhere between ten and twenty GOP Senators were voting to convict. Either way he's leaving in disgrace whether it be today or next week
The Seagulls not playing their Citeh type possession style, but playing like the lower division sides have in the Cup
Let's hope that's true! That would be historic!
Nice close range block by Robert Sanchez from KDB off a one two with Gundogan
Come on, Citeh! They should be three or four up already!
Corner headed on and an easy near post save by Robert Sanchez from KDB
Despite dominating possession Citeh really haven't done much to trouble Robert Sanchez in the Seagulls goal
I am out and about
COME ON SEAGULL
SEAGULLS EAT EAGLES....sorry....wrong opponent!
Nice lobbed pass from KDB, but Mahrez couldn't make the proper connection
LOL, Dave. Must be why they're rivals. Not sure if they eat citizens
Webster's says that's stupid if a goalkeeper picks up an intentional back pass as read to Seagulls keeper, Robert Sanchez. Indirect free kick to Citeh in the Seagulls box
Geez.... what a time to join.... indirect free kick.... ROW Q please
Free kick a couple yards outside the six yard box
Citeh creating lots of chances, but haven't found the finishing touch yet.
Hate the lying down under the wall
Blocked
Pass to KDB and he blasts it into the wall of Alexis McAllister then goes out for a, goal kick
Powerful shot from KDB blocked by Webster who wrote the meaning for the word ouch in the dictionary
Citeh have won a fair number of corners but have yet to take advantage of that
Not sure if Bob is finding the match or the impeachment proceedings more exciting
Great Citeh break off a Seagulls corner and Robert Sanchez turns around a near post shot from KDB
Cancelo didn't Burn Dan as he was tackled for a corner
Bugger!!
GOAL !!!PHIL FODEN GIVES CITHE THE LEAD . WELL WORKED BYUT ROBERT SANCHEZ RTOO EASILY BEATEN AT THE NEAR POST. NICE PASS FROM KDB AND FODEN TURNED TWO DEFENDERS BUT RIOBERT SANCHEZ SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER IN THE SEAGULLS GOAL
Into stoppage time/ A minute of that
Citeh one up at the half thanks to a goal from Foden near the end of the half
Wahay! Let's have another, Citeh!
Shut it PROF!!
The second half is underway from the Etihad
Poor form from Bob
Back for the second half now - hoping that Citeh can build on that lead.
Poor form, Bob.
COME ON YOU SEAGULLS!
rUBEN dIAS CLEARS FOR A sEAGULLS OFF ONBE TYOUCH sEAGULLS PASSING
Seagulls corner headed away then a right and Propper powerful volley from thirty yards out is gathered by Ederson
Mahrez should have put Citeh two up.He beat the Seagulls offside trap as he gathered a long ball from the back then shot just wide with just Sanchez to beat
Another chance for Citeh to go two up. Decent save by Sanchez from Gundogan then Weekend at Bernie's smashes a rebound off the post then into the side netting
Jesus on for Mahrez, who is getting a Pep talk as he heads toward the subs bench
Neil Maupay on for Percy Tau, who made his Seagulls debut
Back from lunch and not many chances created recently . Citeh still leading 1-0
Citeh now third, a point behind Pool , and four points behind United
A trio of stoppage time minutes
PENALTY CITEH AS ROBERT SANCHEZ CHOPS DOWN KDB OFF A HORRENDOUS BACK HEADER
STERLING TO TAKE AFTER A POOR BACK HEADER FROM LEWIS DUNK.
RUDDY NORAH! ANYTHING BUT STERLING AS THE PENALTY LANDS IN ROW G
It's over and Citeh were anything but convincing as they defeated the Seagulls 1-0. Now up to third .
I will be in and out of the last match as I'm planning to take advantage of the nice weather and go walking
Leeds vs Saints scheduled for January 20th has been postponed so that the Shrews vs Saints Third Round match can be played
I'm checking back in now after a long phone conversation with one of my mentors from Florida about the impeachment proceedings. Reasonably happy with that Man Citeh result, although I would have preferred more goals. Citeh still not really firing on all cylinders.
Wahay! Harry Kane has nodded home Spurs' opener against their London rivals.
The impeachment vote is on-going now - seven Repubs have already voted for the resolution. Wow!
Half-time at Shite Fart - Harry Kane's goal separates the sides.
Tottenham are temporarily up to third, a point behind Liverpool now, on 32 points from 17 matches.
Back from a long walk and Spurs till one up and now up to third ahead of Citeh on goal difference
Hoyberg booked after his second consecutive similar foul, both on Tongue N' Cheek that were anything but
President Donald J. Trump has been impeached for a historic second time. The final roll call was 232 "Yea" votes to 197 "Nay" votes. This included all 222 House Democrats joined by 10 House Republicans. There were 4 "No Votes," all of them Republicans.
Spurs nearly go two up. Number One Son with a shot off the post with just Arriola to beat
I'm not surprised that Tottenham have shut up shop, Mourinho style. What a boring side they are.
That's great news, Bob. Wish more Republicans voted to impeach. How does that sound for the Senate?
GOAL !!! THE COTTAGERS TIE IT UP. GREAT HEADER
Bugger!
It came off an approximately ten pass move that culminated in the ball being played wide left to U.S. international Antonee Robinson nd he played it down the line to Lookman and his superb cross was headed in by Cavaliero
Fulham have become the draw specialists.
Cottagers still third from bottom, but now a pair of points from safety. Spurs down to sixth behind the Foxes and Toffees
Well, the vote in the Senate really depends on Mitch McConnell, current and outgoing Senate Majority leader. If he gets behind the conviction, Trump could be in real trouble.
Cottagers , Pool ,a nd Spurs tied second with half a doze draws. The draw specialists are the Seagulls with eight, who need to start turning those into wins
The last I read McConnell said he was undecided. I interpret that as a nay
Vinicius, the hat-trick hero at Marine, on for N'Dummy
Cottagers doing well, considering they didn't find out about this match until Monday
I am back as Fulham are really pushing for the winner!
Jose's sit back on a one goal lead SUCKS
Fulham's goal....a man takes on a man to the byline and puts in a great cross!!
Whoda thunk it
Spurs think they get the winner.... but the flag is up
GOAL !!! NI9CE ONE TOUCH PASSING AND REGULAON TAPS IT IN BUT IT'S DISALLOWED FOR OFFSIDE
Looks like Spurs are going to throw away another two points. LOL!
Son was the one offside
Even if Son was, it shouldn't have counted...but would have!!
He had such an unfair advantage standing where he was
Welcome back, Dave and just in time for one of those late substitutions as former Spur, Josh Onomah,. on for Tongue N' Cheek. A Barber Shop Quartet of stoppage time minutes
Is there going to be an update on PPP after tomorrow?
I should jump up the table with United on top!!
Did I mention that Manchester United are top!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One can never accuse Jose of being a litterbug. Throws away leads in the rubbish bin
I will bee interested to see how the results affect the PPP standings
I'll see if I have time to do it.
Camara wins a corner off Davinson Sanchez off the corner flag
It's over and the Cottagers get an unlikely 1-1 draw at SFL 2.0
Tomorrow it's the Gunners vs Palace at 3 PM.
That's it
All square at the end
Top of the Tabe
MAN UTD 36 +10
Liverpool 33 +16
Man C 32 +12
Leicester 32 +10
Everton 32 +7
Spurs 30 +14
