A Bit of the Cup and a Bit of the Prem

Morning, chaps - it's another day of scattered FA Cup Quarterfinals and Premier League matches today. At least there are some decent matches on hand. It starts with the slow burn of Chelsea v. Sheffield United, which is in the first half now. Then we've got a London Derby in the Prem between West Ham and Arsenal. The best match of the day is at 1pm EST with Leicester v. United in the Cup. We wrap up with a late one between Villa and Spurs. I'll be grading during the first one this morning but will join you for the West Ham v. Arsenal and the big Cup match.

Morning Boys,
I watched a bit of the Old Firm clash that ended 1-1 at Parkhead. Rangers 5 games from an undefeated season.
Their only loses of the season so far is a League Cup match at St Mirren and this week's home defeat in the EL

I have the Chelsea match on my telly on Plus
I will have the London derby on the computer....it is live on 5Live but I will have to turn that off because it will be so far ahed of the COCK

Plus was seconds behind 5Live...The COCK is MINUTES!

The Blades started the match quite well but a Chillwell was knocked into his own net by Norwood
Coming up to half time at the Blues leading 1-0

Good morning Bob and Dave. Have been watching the Cup tie. A deserved Chelsea lead , but a really boring match

Morning, guys - glad to have you on board this morning. It does seem as if Chelsea are grinding out a typical Tommy Tuchel 1-0 win thanks to an Oliver Norwood o.g. Boring. I'm glad I decided to sleep in and have a relaxing Sunday morning routine instead.

10:50 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Given the scarcity of the Prem matches this weekend, you would think that NBC would put all of them on the channel rather than on the Cock. Shameful.

OH! Free header for David McGOAL RICK in the six yard box and headed wide off a great cross from John Lundstram

Teams coming out at the London Stadium now.

10:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Bob. Really ridiculous that the only televised match is the least important of the two matches. Greedy NBC concerned about making money than quality

Kepa does well to turn around an Evil Blades shot from the D

10:58 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Hey Guys
Blades should have equalized TWICE...one was a SITTER!

I have to rush to the store

10:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Zouma does well top stretch out and clear a long ball intended for Bogle for an Evil Blades corner

11:00 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The reason the Evil Blades didn't tie it up was that the wrong David had the free header. The one in ENY would have tied it up

11:01 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

And we're away at the London Stadium. Lots at stake in this one, especially with regard to European spots.

11:02 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

How is this for a stat? The only home goal in this year's Cup quarters has been an OG

11:02 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I'm thinking of switching to the Prem match even though I'm not Cock a Hoop about it

11:03 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A winger for a striker as Olly on for Olly . Burke for Mc BURRR Knee

11:04 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Early corner chance for the Hammers. The Gunners will have to be careful with these - the Hammers can be lethal from these with Soucek and Dawson the obvious targets.

11:04 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Interesting stat, David. I gave up on that Cup match before it started!

11:05 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I'm switching over, mate

11:05 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH! David Mc GOAL RICK gets past Azpi then his pass is pushed away by the Kepa at full stretch then hoofed away

11:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

An attacking switch for the Evil Blades as Rhian Brewster on for the OG scorer

11:07 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

All West Ham possession so far - unusual for them. They usually sit back and wait for chances from set pieces.

11:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I switched over to the match at the London Stadium. Evil Blades unlucky not to be level at SB

11:10 AM

GOAL! Jesse Lingard again! He's in white-hot form these days!

1-0 Hammers!

11:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! WHAT A CRACKING FIN ISH BY LINDY ! ANTONIO WENT ON A RUN DOWN THE LEFT INTO THE BOX OFF A ONE TWO THEN LAID IT OFF FOR THE CRACKING LINDY FINISH IN THE UPPER 90 FOR A HAMMERS LEAD

11:17 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Is Lindy playing his way back into England reckoning? On this form, Gareth must be watching.

11:18 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

goal !!! hammers two up as jarred bopwen scores off a quick free kick while the gunners were asleep on the play

11:18 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh my! It's 1-0 Hammers. Took advantage of a quick free kick while the Arsenal defenders were napping and Bowen squeezed a shot under Leno at the near post.

11:19 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It wasn't a great Saka play as Antonio was fouled a foot outside the box. Gunners fell asleep off the quick free kick and Jay Leno was beaten too easily at the near post by Jarred Bowen

11:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

To answer your question, I think Lindy was picked for the England squad for the March matches

11:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

More action in the past couple of minutes of this match than an hour and a half of the cup match at SB

11:21 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Hammers need seven more goals to move into fourth place ahead of Chelsea

11:23 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Chelsea ran out 2-0 winners vs the Evil Blades with the late goal from Ziyech, assisted by Cilly, so Chilly in a manner of speaking had a hand in both goals. SO far the favored team has advanced to the semis in the three cup ties that have been played

11:25 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That means that the score in the cup tie has already been matched

11:26 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Typical Tuchel win there. He seems to have the same game plan as Mourinho. Chelsea obviously have a well-marshalled defense to rely on and can just bide their time until they nick and goal and then shut up shop and maybe score one on the break late on. Really boring.

11:27 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Arsenal haven't got going here.

11:27 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Johnno will be delighted, but Steve must be furious

11:28 AM

GOAL !!! ANTONIO HEADS IN A CROSS FROM COUFAL WITH A FREE HEADER TO PUT THE HAMMERS THREE UP

11:33 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Blimey! It's 3-0 as Antonio heads home a third goal. He didn't even celebrate there - is he a former Gunner?

11:34 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Some suspicion of a touch by Soucek there. Could be his goal in the end, cheeky bugger.

11:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

VAR checked for offside on Soucek as he was in an offside position. The header from Antonio may have taken a nick off of him. The goal stands

11:35 AM

11:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Could be an go from Soucek

11:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Saka almost in for an Arsenal second

11:41 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I read that it was a lengthy Gunners possession. The ball was played wide right to Cally Chambers and his cross was controlled with the thigh then well volleyed first time and went past Flappy thanks to the help of a deflection

11:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

While I was reading La Cazette they stated that the goal will be awarded to the French striker because the deflection didn't change the fact that the shot was still no target. Not sure if the dubious goals panel will agree.

11:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The only away Prem goals scored this slate of Prem matches have been by Dahlgren brothers teams

11:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think the shot was off target

11:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Naughty by Soucek on Antonio , but only a lecture by Jon because a rolling stone doesn't gather moss

11:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

In that case it would be an OG by Soucek. Won't be a happy chappy because he wasn't given credit for the third Hammers goal, but good thing as it would have been disallowed for offside

11:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A pair of stoppage time minutes

11:47 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH! ping pong in the Hammers box then a Saka shot was deflected just wide for a corner off of Declan Rice

11:48 AM

Oh - nearly another back for the Gunners - Saka just a whisker wide of the post.

12:16 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Don't like United's lineup. There are far better choices than the lone striker United is starting. Foxes lineup ,ore attack minded with three out and out strikers

12:17 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Coufal called for obstruction on Aubama just outside the box. It was a foul, but Aubama didn't need to fall so dramatically

12:18 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

If West Ham hold on to win, they will equal on points with Chelsea but down 5 in the GD column. They will be 5 points ahead of Liverpool with the same number of games and same GD. Pool have scored more tho

Arsenal could win this!!

12:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Not that much of a strong line up

12:22 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It's a decent United lineup , but definitely not a full strength lineup

12:22 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Dave. Plenty of time for the Gunners to win this

12:23 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Hammers have blown this

What do you think about Areta? So many people are calling him a genius! I think they are calling him that because he's Spanish and worked with Pep....sorry BLOODY Pep

12:25 PM

12:28 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This will be a HAMMER blow for the Hammers if they don't win this

12:29 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Michael Devlin: Don’t understand this second rate United lineup. Doesn’t Ole want to win something? The league is gone. Why not take a run at the FA Cup?

Francesca Gunn: Seriously not playing Bruno!!! Switch Fred or matic out for him, pogba works off Bruno and vice versa

12:30 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

More problematic for Arsenal is that they have average players. Look at their center forwards. If you want to have a chance of winning things, you need to have a striker (or two) capable of scoring 20 goals plus. Aubameyang and Lacazette aren't. They have a proven record of scoring around 10-15 goals a season - that's not good enough. Sure, if Arteta were a better manager, he might be able to squeeze another couple of goals out of them, but you can't get blood from a rock, as they say.

12:31 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't agree with resting ANYONE!!

12:31 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Mark Noble on for Jarred Bowen to presumably gain control of the while Smith-Rowe on for Xakha Khan and Pepe on for a great Saka player

12:33 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Struth....How did Arsenal survive that!!

12:33 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Dave. Why the need to rest players. There's an international break coming up. Internationals or not the best players need to be playing. That's United's best chance of winning something

12:34 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Partey with a shot..... Twickenham would have liked that effort!

I think Partey has got too much hype

12:35 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH! Off the inside of the post from Antonio. How did that not go in?

12:35 PM

HOW DID THAT NOT GO IN!!

LOL, nice one , Dave

12:36 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed about Arteta , Bob. I know he was kept on because he's supposedly in the midst of rebuilding side which needed to be done, but there's been little to no progress. Wonder what Steve thinks.

12:42 PM

OGS seems to be doping his level best to add to those list of semi losses.

United didn't even score in those last three semi losses. Not fond memories of those

With the Hammers dropping two points today, United are 8 points ahead of them for the top four

Horrible clearance by United....Henderson saves the shot

It all came from losing possession in the midfield!!

Nice save by Dean Henderson from Vardy.Fred cheaply conceded possession then poor clearance from Maguire

If United get knocked out here, I will be wanting Leicester to win the whole thing

They have been in quite a few Finals but never won it

Of course, they will be out today!

I was happy with the result, but would have preferred a Gunners win. Can't complain as the Hammers were three up until shortly before the half

Leicester were 3 on 1.... there seemed no excitement in the studio!!!

I don't know if Leicester are really doing anything to threaten United. You wouldn't know that they're the home side. I hate them.

I hate Citeh more than the Foxes. Don't mind them sitting back this match, but United need to pick up the pace

Every game United play.... is the same

They just sit back and expect the opponents to break them down. Really boring.

I don't hate City because they are winning... I hate the way the play so much.... and that they get so much love from everyone
