Early Morning Arsing About
Hiya, boya! I'm up early to watch the Arsenal as they travel to Turf Moor this morning. This is the sort of match that they hate but need to win in order to press their claim for a European spot. I'll be honest, there's not a lot else today that I'm interested in, so I may opt for an afternoon of grading and errands. Join me for this one, though, won't you?

Good morning, Bob. Here to join you for the early kickoff from Turf Moor after a busy week. How have you been?
Both of these teams are coming off the back of a promising showing against Leicester City. On Wednesday evening, Burnley, rebounding from a trouncing at Spurs, were more than deserving of a point against the Champions League hopefuls. As for Arsenal, they responded to going behind at the King Power last Sunday with a highly impressive three-goal salvo for the win.
Steve will be hoping that the Gunners Burn Burnley and take away some Turf from the Moor as a victory souvenir.
Morning, David - I hope that you and your family have had a peaceful week.
NBC off t commercial two minutes before kickoff. Will they make it back in time for the match?
Thanks, Bob. We had fun getting together with her family, but a bit sad as well. It's been peaceful the past couple of days
The teams out on the pitch now:
Burnley: Pope, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor, Gudmundsson, Westwood, Brownhill, McNeil, Vydra, Wood.
Subs: Brady, Peacock-Farrell, Stephens, Rodriguez, Pieters, Bardsley, Long, Dunne, Benson.
Arsenal: Leno, Chambers, Luiz, Pablo Mari, Tierney, Thomas, Xhaka, Saka, Odegaard, Willian, Aubameyang.
Subs: Bellerin, Gabriel, Ceballos, Lacazette, Holding, Pepe, Elneny, Ryan, Martinelli.
Referee: Andre Marriner (West Midlands).
They're off from Turf Moor
And away we go at Turf Moor.
I'm confident that we're all going for the Gunners.
Odor Guard with a really smelly stinky corner cleared by the first man
Odegaard with the first corner in - not a good one, easily cut out at the near post.
GOAL! Aubama dancing through and squeezes one in at the near post past Nick Pope!
0-1!
GOAL!!! AUBAMA GIVES THE GUNNERS THE LEAD. CONGRATS, STEVE
Morning Boys
I am here ....already showered and shaved!!
PEA gives the Arsenal the early lead
With that goal, Arsenal leapfrog Villa into 9th, albeit Villa have two matches in hand now.
Of course, not a good effort from Pope in front of SGate!
A couple of passes at the back then passed to Willian, who was more like the Willian we've seen at Chelsea as he picked out Aubama with a lovely pass. He cut inside Matty Lowton, then unusually poor keeping by Nick Pope as he was beaten at the near post
Morning, Dave - well done! You're all set for the day. I've barely dragged myself out of bed. I do have a cuppa by my side, though.
Good morning, Dave. Perfect timing.
Just finished my cuppa just before the goal. Still half asleep
Since last Saturday...18 games....only Arsenal, Spurs and City scored more than two goals! Only City and Liverpool scored two goals! That means out of 36 teams....THIRTY-ONE teams scored either ONE or NO goals.....I know what United did!
All Arsenal possession now, with Burnley dropping deep.
Burnley nearly in there as Chambers coughs up the ball to Vydra. The cross was deflected into Leno's arms.
I had not paid attention due to the circumstances involving this past week, but when checking the scores thought that there seemed to be a real lack of goals in recent matches and confirmed by what Dave posted
Did everything go smoothly this week David?
Talking about scores, not sure why they are called the Melbourne Victory. They were hit for half a dozen without reply at home in the Melbourne derby
That's not good value for the punters. I'm hoping that Leeds put some goals by the Hammers on Monday. Should have Rodrigo back in the fold by then.
To my mind Arteta is going with three defensive middies today - Xhaka, Partey and Odegaard. Am I wrong in that?
Thanks, Dave. It went as well as expected. It was good getting together with Elizabeth's family, but sad at times too. Glad to be back with the LOB.
That sounds like two defensive middies. I think Odegaard is an attacking player and has been more of a winger at other clubs. Not sure if I'm correct about that
Oh - Aubama was nearly in there but Lowton did just about enough.
I do love how Liverpool have lost five straight home games for the first time in the club's history!
Back on my 30th Wedding Anniversary, Liverpool luckily beat Spurs 2-1 at Anfield then they drew with WBA on my parent's anniversary(12/27).... since then.... the entire 2021.....Liverpool have scored ONE goal at Anfield....a Salah pen vs City
LOOOONG may it continue!
Watford take an early lead at home to Forest
Aubama could have put the Gunners two up, but the intervention by Matty Lowton was just about enough
That makes sense, David - I just haven't seen him pushing forward that much today.
Agreed about Pool. Love those stats.
I feel a bit sad for Liverpool fans - am I wrong?
Saka hits one just wide!! Should have been two nil!!
Oh - Saka should have scored Arsenal's second there. Just flicked it wide of the post.
As the table stands now
7th Liverpool 43
8th Spurs 42....game in hand
9th Arsenal 40
Three of the Big Six.... Mid Table
The Hornets now second three points ahead of the Bees, who are dormant today . Don't play today at Rotherham due to COVID in the Rotherham squad
No sympathy for Pool. Long may it continue
Quote.... on 5Live
Shef Wed.....a big big club....a massive club...if they get it right!
First decent move from Burnley but it was wasted by an effort by Westwood well over the bar.
They may be in L1 next season, so they could start rebuilding from there. Leeds currently the big Yorkshire club
Quote on the LOB: "Not a big club."
We've always been the big Yorkshire club.
The Blades so dull this season that they couldn't put a knife through butter
Oh - Odegaard got to the by-line and then pulled it back for Partey. Blasted over.
LOL, Bob. Nice one
Cheers, David!
If that shot had gone in it probably would not be party time in the Burnley dressing room at the half
Arsenal are beginning to push Burnley back. The hosts are struggling to get out of their own half.
I heard=Sean Dyche wants to sign Gunnersauraus , stating that he would be a perfect fit for the team's style of play
Burnley half a dozen points clear of the drop zone. Still not out of the woods yet
Odd that all three Thursday matches finished 0-1 to the away team and this could be four on the trot
Jim Proudfoot has been pointing out that the crossing from the Burnley backs, which is usually their most potent weapon, has been unusually poor today.
Burnley and the Evil Blades the last home teams to score in the Prem. Who thought that would be stated in a sentence?
Long ball out to Aubama there but Nick Pope cleaned up.
I have three Gunners on my team....Saka, Ode and Tiern....I need points!
Good point from Jimmy. If their crossing is off then usually their attack is close to non existent
Saka was nearly in there but Brownhill did well to track back.
Sounds like Saka is your best bet for points.
Arsenal have really improved...Saka almost put thru
Again, I sometimes watch Watch Along with AFTV.... funny to watch and listen to them
OH DEAR.... MODERN DAY FOOTBALL!!!
GOAL!!! CHRIS WOOD TIES IT UP FOR BURNLEY
OH DEAR.... MODERN DAY FOOTBALL!!!
Oh dear oh dear - a real nightmare from Xhaka gives Chris Wood the chance to equalize!
1-1!
ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS PLAY!
STUNNING
I got a tune in AFTV to listen their complaining!!
Chris Wood didn't know much about that one, as he indicated from his goal celebration.
Gillingham take the lead against Ipswich who are under new management(Paul Cook)
Agreed, Dave. a comedy of errors that will not amuse Steve as the Gunners passed about in their own box and part of Jay Leno's monologue was that ridiculous pass to Xakha Khan and his pass bounced off Chris Wood for a comical goal that didn't not amuse Steve nor Jay Leno
All of that positive play from the Gunners has come to nothing because of one stupid incident.
Great start for the new Tractor Boys boss, who I think is a former Pompey manager
So ridiculous to play out like that
Decent save by Jay Leno from Dwight McNeil as the Gunners didn't know how to handle the long ball to Chris Wood
They did win midweek with no manager and now losing with the new!!
After that error for the Burnley goal , my message to Xhakha Khan is " I feel for You."
OOPS! I misread. The Tractor Boys may play better without a manager
Willian wins a corner when he might have found a teammate.
In L2, Exeter City two up, steamrolling the Orient Express
I thought you were just being sarky
A minute of stoppage time
Sorry, Dave. The morning coffee hasn't completely taken effect
After all of their dominance, Arteta and co. will be rightly arsed off about going in 1-1. But that's the situation as we head to the interval.
It's 1-1 at the end of a half dominated by the Gunners , but Burnley were gifted a goal
Half time....Arsenal only have themselves to blame!
It was Shaka AND Leno's fault.... SO STUPID!
Teams out at Turf Moor
The second half is underway from Turf Moor
AFTV guys still talking about the goal.... all blaming Shaka and not Leno....they are still ok with playing it out of the back!!
Xhaka looks fine, no signs of his being slapped for 15 minutes straight.
comfortable save by Mick Pope from Odegaard after a shot was blocked
Charlie Taylor pressures one of the Gunners Saka players into conceding a Burnley corner
Saka with a shot blocked by Tark as the Gunners are starting to apply the pressure
Saka goes into the book for a late one on Charlie Taylor.
Andre Marriner didn't think that was a legal Saka challenge as that's a booking for the foul on Charlie Taylor
Saka with a yellow....hurts me of course!
Partey playing as if he's hung over from too much partey time
Time for a a hat-trick of goals and a pair of assists from Saka
Burnley are much-improved since the break. Arsenal still haven’t quite cleared their heads after Xhaka’s music-hall turn.
LOL. He was off by several octaves on that Burley goal.
Looks like Arteta is about to launch Pepe off the bench.
Off goes one of my players
No - I misread your favorite French periodical. It's Lacazette coming on for the ineffectual Odegaard. The jury's still out on him.
I missed it, but while reading La Cazette it stated that Odegaard has been replaced. An extra striker for the Gunners
You've got Odegaard on your team? Why?
According to Kate: tu ne lis pas le journal
Odor Guard smelled of a stinky performance today
Robbie Brady coming on now for Gudmondsson.
And Pepe to come on for the Arsenal. Both managers going for this one.
Arsenal should have been at least three up before the Burnley goal
Burnley have gone on top...this is like the Wolves match for the Gunners
Kate says, "Je prefere Le Monde."
Willian gets the hook for Pepe.
That should have been a handball...are they checking it? The play went on forever!!!
Absolutely should have been a penalty....the hand is way out from the body! The game is BROKEN!!
They have ruined it!
It stuns me!
AFTV guys having kittens!!
Even I think it was a penalty.... even for the Arsenal!
Leno saves from a decent volley!!
D'accord . Je pense qu'il est un bon journal, Kate . Tout le monde preferent ce journal?
Corner comes to nothing
Great move by Burnley....well saved by Leno
Sounds like modern day announcing from AFTV
They should have scored!
Great close range block by Jay Leno from Chris wood off a nice pass from Matty Vydra
I agree. Shot right against Leno's foot./
The one bloke who always wears his Arsenal hat and track suit is so biased!! Everyone else in the room thinks he's nuts!
Ceballos on for Partey
Another chance for the Gunners... Pepe with an awful attempt
YIKES! What was Pepe doing ? Tierney laid it on a plate for him and he whiffed at it in the six yard box. Any contact and the Gunners would have taken the lead
That was a fullback's finish!!
What a save.... no...it was a arm and a red card!
I don't think it was!!! That shouldn't be a pen if the other one wasn't!
I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS SPORT ANYMORE
OH! volley from Pepe deflected on to the bar by Erik Pieters then Pope catches the rebound. Great goal line defending, but VAR checking for a possible hand ball for a penalty and a possible red card
The guys on the mic think it will be overturned
Everything has been overturned.... I agree with it
Of course, they should have had a pen before
VAR Check for a penalty for the Arsenal. And a red card for Pieters.
Agreed, Dave. Correct decision as it's overturned. I made a couple of those types of clearances/blocks back in the day
N'est pas un rouge mon ami
Both of these sides are destined to be disappointed by this result.
Non!
Too much French going around here this morning!!!!
NON! N'est jamais une carte rouge.
Arsenal almost give another gift!!
I'll start speaking Arb if you're not careful!!!
Where's David Vansuch when you need him!!
We used to be able to speak and understand so easily!
A Barber Shop Quartet of stoppage time minutes
Into 4 added minutes
Dave, tu prefieres el espanol
Narbo arbi warbounarbnt
Do you think Arteta is as good as he is being talked about? He has the Pep connection! Barca talk of him!
I don't get it
LOL, Dave!
STRUTH....HOW DID ARSENAL NOT SCORE THERE!!
Shots blocked.....off the post!
GEEZ
That's a late Gunners onslaught
No time of a corner....game over
Ends 1-1
Arsenal should have won it in the first half but were lucky to survive in the second but could have won it in added time
It's over and it finishes 1-1 as it's a pair of dropped points for the Gunners while Burnley now seven points clear of the drop zone
No idea how a pen was not given tho
Not at all. This Arsenal side on paper is a lot better than 10th.
LOL, Dave. Between the group of us we're definitely multilingual. Sounds a bit like esperantu
I am off for walkies with Shadow
I'll be back at some point.... the 3 o'clocker is a bit of borefest!
Off to take Sparky walkies in what is not exactly a day of exciting matches
In fact the rest of the games are !!
I should be around
That draw leaves Arsenal in 10th and well outside the European spots and Burnley in 15th but clear of the danger zone.
Dave's right - the rest of the matches are rubbish. I'll likely be in and out of the matches while I catch up on some grading and do some errands.
The first rubbishy match of the day is Sheffield United v. Southampton.
Back from walkies and feeding the pets
Some finals:
Hornets 1 Forest 0
Hornets now second and will stay there since Bees at Rotherham postponed due to Covid in the Rotherham squad
Gils 3 Tractor Boys 1.No a tasty start for Paul Cook who may not be the recipe for success.
Exeter steamroll the Orient Express by a Barber Shop Quartet of goals without reply. Matt Jay with a hat-trick
Even though the Evil Blades are bottom, will they be favorites due to the Saints poor run of form?
They're off from Bramall Lane
I am back from a bloody cold walk!!
Saints really need to win a match!
1 point out of 27!!!
Back from the bog and as expected didn't miss any goals, but did miss a substitution and like for like as Che Addams on for the injured Danny Ings
We had a sample of cold weather for nine days. Don't miss it. You should have warmer weather by this time next month
Pukki gives the Canaries the lead vs Luton and Canaries now ten points clear of the Hornets, who went down with them last Summer
Off to do errands
TTFN
Cheers, Dave Look forward to chatting tomorrow
I'm back from the shower and delighted that I made the decision not to watch this one live. It's 0-0 half way through the first half and Bramall Lane.
Welcome back. This one is definitely a shower
PENALTY SAINTS. ETHAN AMPADU WITH A MISTAKE THAT'S A REAL TELLA AS HE BRINGS DOWN YOUNG NATHAN
JWP TO TAKE.
GOAL !!! SAINTS TAKE THE LEAD WITH A WELL PLACED PENALTY FROM JWP, SENDING RAMSDALE THE WRONG WAY
That puts Saints ten points clear of the drop zone as they move ahead of Burnley. Aiming for then their first win since they defeated pool on January 4th
Free header from Kean Bryan at the far post off a great free kick from John Fleck. Could have tied it up
Southampton have gone 0-1 up through a JWP penalty.
Some cores in the Championship:
QPR two up at Bristol City
Coventry in the lead vs the Rams as is the Reading Railroad vs Not a Big Club , Blackburn at the Evil Den, and the Cherries at Deepdale
YIKES! Northants three up vs Pompey, which moves Northants out of the drop zone. Sorry, Dave
Salford one up vs Scunny
The Evil Blades have been flatter than a pancake this half
Swans take the lead vs the Teesiders and are now third, a point behind the Hornets
Canaries two up vs Luton. Pukki with both goals
A pair of stoppage time minutes
Dave McGoldrick through on goal off a poor back pass from Diallo and his chip straight to Fraser Forster as the Saints are one up at the end of a boring half
This result would be just fine by me.
Che Adams has added a second goal now. This one looks beyond the Blades already.
Just checking in from busy work in the kitchen...mostly cleaning up!
Did you know that Bayern vs Dortmund is on ABC at 12:30?
Pompey are FOUR down
Jimmy Floyd Has has really made a difference at Burton. Had won 6 out of 8 matches and are beating top of the table Pboro 2-0 today
Saints close to a third....they need a third to make this safe
Minamino should have hit the target...just wide
Liverpool should have kept him!
Stoke take the lead vs bottom club Wycombe
Pompey score a goal!!
