The Sunday Rest
It's another packed day of Premier League action. I'm up a wee bit late for the start of the intriguing Leicester v. Arsenal match, while Palace and Fulham are also playing on the Cock. That's followed by Spurs v. Burnley at 9am, probably a shower match for me. Then there is the big one for the weekend - Chelsea hosting United at Stamford Bridge. Somehow Jose Mourinho isn't involved this time. Then if you haven't had enough, the late one is Sheffield United v. Liverpool. Join me for all the fun and games.

The teams on display at Filbert Street today:
Leicester City (a sophisticate’s 4-4-2): Schmeichel; Castagne, Soyuncu, Evans, Thomas; Pereira, Ndidi, Tielemans, Barnes; Iheanacho, Vardy. Subs: Ward, Albrighton, Amartey, Under, Choudhury, Mendy, Fuchs, Daley-Campbell, Tavares.
Arsenal (a circumspect 4-2-3-1): Leno; Soares, Mari, Luiz, Tierney; Elneny, Xhaka; Willian, Smith Rowe, Pepe; Lacazette. Subs: Ryan, Bellerin, Saka, Ceballos, Odegaard, Aubameyang, Holding, Partey, Martinelli.
Song and dance man: Paul Tierney (Wigan)
Leicester are in the lead through a 6th minute Youri Tielemans goal.
Hi Bob,
I have been here
Arsenal....wearing white!!.... equalize!
Morning, Dave! I'm just back from making a cuppa to see Sideshow nod home Arsenal's equalizer. They've had several good looking free kick chances but finally Willian was able to stick a decent ball. Good header from his compatriot.
1-1!
How are you, mate?
As usual with Leicester, they've conceded all of the possession on their own patch, just looking to hit on the break. I hate that style of play.
I'm doing ok....not confident about this afternoon. I can never trust my lot
At least Leicester doesn't just pass pass pass
Big appeal for a penalty there for a handball on Ndidi.
VAR check to come.
It is indeed a penalty to Arsenal!
Lacazette steps up and...scores!
1-2!
Stonewaller....at least the ref took one second at the screen and called the pen
Arsenal are good for this lead; they've dominated this half. The Foxes will actually have to play a bit now, not just defend.
I still have an issue with penalties given when the player is so close and the ball is just blasted into him. My two cents area a member of the Defenders Union.
Half time
Gunners come back to take the lead....good score my lot
Half-time whistle goes. Arsenal are a goal up from that penalty right on the stroke.
I agree with you but his arm was up like he was trying to block a spike in volleyball
Wonder why they had the ref go and check for the handball for the pen but didn't have got over to the screen for the penalty that never was!
There is another match going on right now
Palace is hosting Fulham
Scoreless
Bale staring for Spurs.... ABOUT TIM!!
Teams out for the second half
We're back on and Brodge has made an immediate change - Albrighton on for Thomas.
I had a feeling that you'd be happy with Gareth Bale starting today.
We are off
Harvey Barnes down hurt...doesn't look good for him...looks like a knee problem
Will Leicester drop out of the top four?
Gives room for Chelsea and Liverpool?
Arsenal will leapfrog Leeds and Spurs into 9th with a win today. We'd be knocked down to 11th again. That doesn't bother me at all.
At the bottom, Newcastle got a draw against Wolves yesterday. With Fulham drawing right now, they're still three points behind.
Yikes.... they put on a air cast
Good Morning Bob and Dave
Doesn't look good at all as he's being stretchered off
Sad to see Harvey Barnes coming off on a stretcher. Don't know the bloke who has come on for him.
Morning, David - how are you, mate?
THREE ONE GUNNERS
Not a good couple of minutes for Brendan!
GOAL! Arsenal have taken a page out of the Leicester book, breaking quickly and scoring through a tap in by Pepe.
1-3!
Morning David
GOAL !!! 1-3 GUNNERS NICE RUN BY PEPE. PLAYED WIDE TO WILLIAN , WHO RETUNRED IT FOR A PEPE TAP IN
Not sure why Sideshow needed to go down there. It was a standard header from a corner. Maybe he needed a moment?
I'm doin g alright, but a little flat. Also a little tired. How is everyone else
Delighted for Steve. He must be doing a jig
I thought the penalty was the correct decision. He had his arms too far out Ndidi
Still 0-0 in the other match. No wonder why we're not watching
This score keeps United in second...United's goal difference is 6 goals better than the Foxes right now.... 9 nil wins help!!
Top takes the lead at the bottom as the Canaries take the lead at Wycombe. No surprises that Pukki scored
I cannot believe that Man Utd have score the most goals of any team in the division...again 9 nil wins don't hurt!
I stil think we stink going forward!
United have scored one more goal than City but conceded 16 more!! We have concede exactly TWICE as many goals!
A United win of 9-0 at SB would do nicely , but very unlikely against a team of Chelsea's quality
I'm doing just fine. We're a month into the semester and the students are well into the groove. I've got some good groups this year. I'm ignoring the nonsense in the department and just focusing on my teaching and research.
Agreed. Considering United play a defensive style they concede a fair number of goals, even though six of those were vs Spurs.
Must feel good that you can ignore all the crap!
Glad everything is going well. I know how you feel. I also had to ignore department nonsense to focus on teaching.
I ALWAYS ignored department stuff
Leicester have been forced to play a bit now. They can't just sit back and wait for Arsenal to leave gaps in the back.
Agreed. When I taught a lot of the crap came from the adults , who sometimes acted like children when they should have known better. Don't miss it
I did, too, until I became chair and then I had a Dean saying to me, "these two aren't getting along; you have to sort it out." Glad not to have to do that anymore.
I wish I could have ignored department things, but we had to meet as a department every Friday morning for an hour before first period started. That's why I took Fridays off my last two years of teaching
I am all over the place today
Got the match on the telly, Arsenal watch along on the computer and listening to the Palace/Fulham match on the radio
We used to have one department meeting a month, it then went to two AND then NONE!
We had a split in our department similar to that of the Dems and GOP in Congress. We had to have a mediator several times
It's Partay time for Arsenal with Elneny coming off. Like for like and fairly boring at that.
It's Partey time as El Neny trots off
We had a mediator in about ten years ago, before I was chair. Still some bad blood over that, although some of the principals have retired at this point. The morale among the faculty is pretty low right now due to Covid.
Anything happening in the Palace v. Fulham match?
Kate might say fete l'heure de la fete
No it's still 0-0
Any hope of a Blades victory today? They are the only team inside the bottom six not to get any points against Liverpool this season....it would be nice for them to join the group
That makes sense. I think morale is low just about everywhere from what I read on FB and also a lot of campuses seem to have unrealistic expectations from what I'm reading
Fulham have gone on top... could have scored from a header but the keeper made a great save
Not sure if Bob would concur. I think he wants the Blades relegated ASAP. I may be mistaken and I'm not expecting the Blades to get anything today
Johnny Evans is off....that is all three moves by the Foxes
Me no care two hoots about what Bob wants!!!!
I don't want Newcastle to go down so I would prefer a Palace win.... United visit there midweek
A lot of teams have matches but not all...don't understand why.
Leeds don't play
Elbow in the head... not a red
Xhaka and Albrighton are having a meeting of the minds now.
Yep - want the Blades down as soon as possible. If they could be triple relegated to L2, I'd be even happier.
We play West Ham next on Monday, March 8.
I don't understand the scheduling either
Thought you would say that, Bob. That will be a challenging match vs Johnno's lot a week from tomorrow
I'm on the BBC site because FOTMOB isn't working. Canaries top seven points ahead of the Bees. I thought it would be a greater gap
They can do down quick....just get something today for the Blades
I don't want Liverpool to get on any roll whatsoever!!
Great effort by Tierney there
Palace vs Cottagers a contrast of managers. Student vs the master? Over thirty years apart in age
Not sure what the point of sticking Aubama on for Laca at this point is apart from wasting a bit of time.
I was busy talking to Elizabeth, so I missed who Aubama replaced. I will have to read about it in La Cazette
I'd be happy with a point from it, of course. We should have Kal Phillips back at that point. We've really missed him.
Modern day managers love to waste time or so I read in La Cazette
This midweek
Monday Everton vs Southampton....part of this weekend slate
Tuesday
City vs Wolves
Wednesday
Burnley vs Leicester
Shef Utd vs Villa
Palace vs Man U
Thursday
Fulham vs Spurs
WBA vs Everton
Liverpool vs Chelsea
Most of Leeds's recent losses have been due to not taking chances and a few key errors. performances have been decent
Oh - Aubama is inches away from a fourth for Arsenal.
No games midweek for Arsenal, Leeds, West Ham, Southampton, Newcastle and Brighton
Wonder why?
Norwich double their lead
Doesn't make sense because other than a few teams everyone has played the same number of matches. I don't get it
That's what Bielsa has been saying in his pressers; that we've dominated matches but haven't been "efficient" enough in finishing off chances.
Into 3 added minutes at Selhurst Park
Wycombe all but down and the Canaries all but promoted. An instant return for both, but for opposite reasons
I thought most of the teams were evened up except Villa because of Covid stuff
Fulham still well on top but can't get their goal
I will miss the first few minutes of the next match because Sparky needs to go walkies at some point
Tierney down.....he wasn't touched in the head!
I'll be taking a break after this one for a shower and whatnot. Looking forward to seeing United put the hammer down on Chelsea.
I have to take Shad too
That's been the story of the Cottagers season. They may be like last season's Villa and pull off safety
Why did Tierney grab his head!
He was in the news this week for yelling at some Benfica guy for diving
Dave's lucky seven minutes of stoppage time and probably doesn't like that amount of stoppage time
All over at SP..... Fulham had the better of the chances but can't score
Ends goalless
I thought the Cengiz had fouled him from Under
Palace didn't test the Fulham keeper at all....they better play the same on Wednesday
Partey has a go from distance. That really would be fiesta time for the Gunners if that had flown in.
The next match is between two of the Prem's most boring teams
Agreed, Dave. That would be perfect from Palace and we need to exact revenge on them
That scoreline at Selhurst Park suits me; keeps both of them below us.
Sunshine will fall asleep if he watches the next match
This result will encourage those below Leicester to think that they can sneak back into the top four.
I just heard Steve shouting
BLOW UP REF!
Arsenal have gone above Spurs into 9th.... they are three points behind Liverpool!
Leicester miss a big chance at the back post!
I think the Foxes will fade away like they did last season, especially after that embarrassing EL exit
Wow - big chance for Ihenacho there at the death. Blasts it over. And that should be that.
Steve will be delighted by this result which carries them over Leeds and Spurs into 9th and gives them a bit of hope that they might qualify for Europe the old fashioned way.
It's over and the Gunners record a fantastic 1-3 win at the KP.
Congrats, Steve
Agreed, Bob. Definitely a great chance of the Gunners being in the EL next season. The CL is a bit of a stretch
GOAL.... SPURS HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD!!
BALE SCORES WITH HIS FIRST TOUCH OF THE GAME!
He's on...Sonaldo put the ball in the box... and it is one nil inside two minutes!
I need some Kane goals
It is an attacking side put out by Jose....he better not sit back now!
I will be taking a walk at half time
Bale's goal was onside because of a guy's ankle...it should have been onside regardless of that!
Kane hits one inches wide
Yesterday's referee fiasco man was supposed to be the 4th official for the match at Bramall Lane today...Lee Mason has dropped out thru injury!
Spurs should have been two up.... great save by Pope from Lucas Moura
Spurs look great going forward with their front three
This should have happened from September!
Shad is at me
Off for walkies... 5 Live has commentary(ahead of NBC) so I can follow
I'll be back
As I get back from a short walk....LM gives Spurs a three goal lead!
Sonaldo must be jealous....everyone else has scored!!!
Spurs should play Kane, Bale, Son and LM/Dele every game!
In the Scottish League Cup Final.... Johnny has taken the lead against the run of play against Livi
Things going well with Covid vaccines in England
It could all be back to normal by June!!
They are giving jabs by ages.... they are already in the 40 year olds!
Fans could be back for the last week of the season...up to 10,000 depending on the size of the stadium
The League Cup Final in April and the FA Cup Final could both be test events
The Cup Final this season in the penultimate weekend of the league season....HATE THAT!
England's third Euro match could be a full house!
Half time in North London
Spurs take a THREE NIL lead at the half!
DON'T sit back...keep attacking
Out for the second half
I need Kane goals
I fear Spurs will just sit back and I won't get any more points from Kane!
I need them...I am getting crushed
Four Nil....great finish by Bale
Great curl into the far side netting
Pope was rooted to the spot!
NEVER MOVES
Jose will down play it
Jose will sit him next match
I hate Jose so much
Gareth Bale has been directly involved in seven goals in his last four appearances for Tottenham in all competitions (4 goals, 3 assists).
Jose probably will still take him off... and stop him from getting a hat-trick
Dele Alli about to come on...better not be for Bale!
Here DA comes...he is taking off....should be for Lucas Moura.... it is for.... Lucas Moura
This is why Spurs should be good
Bale, Kane, Son, DA
Half an hour to go at Hampden Park
St Johnstone still leading 1-0 over Livingston
Just tuned in the League Cup Final on Plus
Geez.... Bale will be taken off...just leave him on!!
He does come off.... so stupid
Jose being Jose
Make sure everyone knows he's boss....he knows best
Kane with a great shot....great save by Pope
Just looked it up
Livingston used to Meadowbank Thistle...not sure they've won anything
Sonaldo with a nice hit....another great save by Pope
Line ups for the Bridge
Chelsea XI: Mendy, Rudiger, Christensen, Azpilicueta, Chilwell, Kante, Kovacic, Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech, Mount, Giroud.
Substitutes: Arrizabalaga, Alonso, Jorginho, Zouma, Pulisic, Werner, James, Havertz, Emerson.

Substitutes: Henderson, Bailley, Martial, Diallo, Telles, MAtic, Williams, van de Beek, Tuanzebe.
James has all of a sudden been a starter for United!
Bailley is not Ollie's favorite.... dropped again for Lindeloff
Must be Scandavian favoritism!
More stupid subbing about to happen.
Will it ever happen again?
The least Premier League match with no substitutions was at Old Trafford when Man Utd beat Fulham 3-0 on March 22, 2003!!! RVNR scored a hat-trick. Soslkjaer started in the match!
These TWENTY-TWO players played a full 90+ minutes...how did they every survive?

Inside the last ten minutes in London and Glasgow
Modern day football... Spurs with a free kick at the half way line...they go backwards and cause themselves problems at the back
a tackle that gets all ball is called a foul in the Cup Final....this sport is so wimpy these days!!
Every game
Every level
Teams just want to waste time whenever they can!!
Into 3 added minutes in London
Stupid pushing around in the box for a Burnley corner
Maybe there should be a rule that played can't be within two feet of keeper?
Sonaldo sets up Kane.....missed
I needed that goal!
Holberg went down without being touched...hope he's not that much hurt
Back on his feet
Just blow up ref
How refreshing....only 2 added minutes in the Cup Final
The Johnnies have won the Cup
Spurs have won 4-0
Last time Touchel hosted Man Utd...... the famous 3-1 win for United... same again please
Can United keep their away form going.... not since Anfield in Jan 2020 have the been on the wrong end of a result
United have been hopeless against the Big Six so far
Four draws and no wins.... ONE goal....a first minute pen vs Spurs....we lost 1-6
Mustoe trying to commentate on golf
Everyone wants to be so amusing these days!
I'm back for the big one. Hoping to see a big United win this afternoon for you lot.
How bad are Burnley - getting done over 4-0 by the Spuds!
I'm back for the late one. Looking forward to your support for a tough match at SB
I saw the SPuds vs Burnley and the claret and sky blues were pretty awful,. Spurs were pretty good and Bale had his best match since his return to the Spuds
Robbie Mustoe shooting bogeys, Definitely not birdies and eagles
Teams coming out to the pitch...United coming out from the Health Club in the corner as Chelsea come out of the tunnel
Surely NBC will be off to commercials
Welcome back boys
I called it....commercial time
COME ON MAN UNITED!
I really hate this Chelsea team under Tuchel. I had a soft spot for Frankie Lamps, but not I've got no love. Really boring side.
Chees Dave . Welcome back
Away we go
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
Welcome back? I never left!!
United get us underway at the Bridge. Come on, you Red Devils!
It's the same players as Lamps, but different tactics. I liked Chelsea under Lamps because we definitely would have beaten them. They're off from SB
United already phaffing about with it at the back
Based on the way both teams are currently playing , this could be a low scoring cagey match
Shaw with a saving header there!
Start quick United!!!
That cross from Olly Shaw was headed out for a Chelsea corner on the counter
Good saving header there from Shaw and Ollie threatened at the back post.
Modern day corner....long may that continue for the Blues
Thankfully, a wasted Chelsea corner
My GBB Timo Werner on the bench again today. Don't I know how to pick 'em!
Sounds like Chelsea doesn't Tuchel Bob's fancy.
I wish these guys on the mic would understand that they don't need to talk every second! JUST COMMENTATE the match
"You learn something every time he speaks." Arlo on Tommy Tuchel.
What a load of cobblers!
United haven't touched the ball attacking yet!
Not one bit, David. And boom boom!
How is this team the top scorers in the division!
United still haven't touched the ball... WAKE UP!
A team playing away from home against at team in blue..... wear your red shirts!
ARSENAL.....what about you?
LOL, Bob. Thought you would appreciate that
Ball given away from a free kick!
Have we touched the ball in the attacking half
Not sure why OGS is laughing. United's start is no laughing Mata unless he's laughing at my Tuchel remark
United haven't quite got going here, yet.
Again...United have started so slowly!!
Do they know when kick offs!
Rash is supposed to be the #9 today....he is way out left
There was no one in the middle!
Arsenal are too busy selling their turquoise third kit.
Another useless pas by United.... McTom had to foul
Almost ten minutes gone and NOTHING
Lindelof with a miscued clearance for a Chelsea corner
United sell plenty of kits but they always wear red when they can
