Up Early for the Leeds Boys
Hurrah! It's the weekend again. And it starts with a bang today. Leeds v. Chelsea - it's the sort of fixture that I had been dreaming of during all of those years in the hinterlands playing the likes of Doncaster and Yeovil. Of course, we've had a dip in form of late and Chelsea and unbeaten under Tommy Tuchel, so we're likely to get turned over today. But it'll be fun - that's all I have to ask. Come on, you Whites! #MOT!

Morning,
I am here to root your lot on
Morning, chaps! All of the early morning chatter is about that notorious 1970 FA Cup Final. Load of nonsense - this game has nothing to do with that encounter. The two teams are completely different articles and I don't expect them to kick lumps out of each other today. I'm looking forward to an open, exciting affair with lots of goals (hopefully for my lot).
Morning, Dave - thanks for getting up early for me. How are you, mate?
The teams now out on the pitch warming up:
Leeds United: Meslier, Ayling, Llorente, Struijk, Alioski, Phillips, Raphinha, Roberts, Dallas, Harrison, Bamford.
Subs: Koch, Poveda-Ocampo, Casilla, Helder Costa, Rodrigo, Berardi, Klich, Shackleton, Jenkins.
Chelsea: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, Chilwell, Kante, Jorginho, Ziyech, Mount, Pulisic, Havertz.
Subs: Arrizabalaga, Alonso, Werner, Zouma, Kovacic, Giroud, Hudson-Odoi, James, Emerson Palmieri.
Referee: Kevin Friend (Leicestershire).
Leeds make three changes to their starting XI after the 2-0 defeat at West Ham. Pascal Struijk, Ezgjan Alioski and Jack Harrison replace Mateusz Klich, Helder Costa and the injured Liam Cooper.
Today at 10 I will be watching Plus as Portsmouth and Salford play in the 2020 EFL Trophy Final!
Tomorrow, Sunderland play Tranmere in the 2021 EFL Trophy Final!!!
A very short reign for the winners today!!
Pompey actually won it in 2019 so they could retain it!
Two longest possessions of a trophy.....Portsmouth held the FA Cup from 1939-46, Everton were League Champs from 1939-47 and Italy were World Champs from 1938-50
I'm doing well..... how did it go yesterday for you?
Thanks for mentioning Coop's injury...I was just able to move him out of my team
The pitch looks rubbish from the air.... what is going on with their grounds keeper.... get your finger out!
Got the jab yesterday, no probs. No after effects at all. Second dose on April 9.
NBC actually showing MOT!!
They'll still go to a commercial....there they go
Congrats
I don't know. I've heard Patrick Bamford interviewed saying that he prefers playing away because of it!
I'm delighted to hear Joe Biden saying that all adults will be eligible for the vaccine by May 1. That'll save the summer.
You can tell from the preliminaries that, despite the recent defeats, there is a good mood in the camp.
Off we go
MOT
We're all set to go then. Patrick gets us underway.
It was a one year ago yesterday(today's date) was my last day of teaching!
We're really after them right from the off, snapping into tackles and chasing as a pack. Love it!
I hate all these stupid formations!
Phillips hurt his ankle there...hope he is ok
Kal seems to have picked up a knock in that challenge on Havertz. Doesn't look right.
Don't want Chelsea to get within a point of United
BUT, keeping Liverpool out of the top four is always good!
United's match tomorrow is massive!! If they win, second place would look quite secure.... a loss to the Hammers would mean that West Ham would only be 3 points behind with a game in hand
There's a real intensity to the start of this match. No chances though at either end.
That is a big game tomorrow. I'll be watching!
Chelsea get the first chance saved.... Leeds go down the other end and score.... BLOODY FLAG is up!
Bloody hell
Oh - first real danger for us. Pulisic, of course, gets by his man and crosses.
And then down the other end, Patrick races away and feeds Tyler who nets but it's called for offside. Shame.
That's a good sign, though, of the danger we can pose this Chelsea side.
I so wished he held his run or made the run that Thomas made an art of.... he would sprint parallel and then forward
News yesterday that Chris Wilder is leaving the Blades after rows with the board about control. There was supposed to be a news conference but it was cancelled!
If they were going to get rid of him, it should have been much earlier. Right now, they should keep him!! He could bring them right back up!
If he does go.... I was just thinking....do you think Newcastle would go get him
Tyler was robbed of a goal last week. Would have been his first in the Prem.
Oh - my word! It's ricocheted from Ayling off Llorente and off the bar into Meslier's arms. It isn't dull, is it?
STRUTH!!! A clearance from Leeds bounces off a teammate right on to the crossbar and back into Meslier's arms...phew
Both teams attacking... both teams going forward.... what a great idea!!
Oh - Raphinha dances through the area and pulls one back. No one running onto it, sadly.
I love it - we don't fear anyone!
The commentators are talking about 1970 again - that was 41 years ago, guys!
I'd happily take a point today, which would stop the rot ahead of two matches - away to Fulham and at home to Sheffield United - that we should get some points from.
From the Beeb
It has been a fascinating opening 12 minutes. Two teams both with the number aim of scoring goals. We are not getting a 0-0 here, he said tempting fate.
Me
Shouldn't all teams play like this!!
Oh - another threatening move through Pulisic. He's giving Gjanni fits on the right. Meslier tips away and it's cleared, fortunately.
Oh - off the bar from Tyler now! Mendy just got a touch, I think. Wow!
Chelsea play the modern giving away the ball at the back... I thought Leeds blew but then a shot by Roberts off the bar!
GREAT STUFF
It was saved!!
I really like how Tyler is playing up alongside Patrick today. Two up front - what a novel idea!
I can't stand it when people call Leeds naive. They are playing in a positive way..... that's how EVERYONE should play
Two up front.... stunning!
The Bloody Pep Gospel says you must play a False Nine
I do like that Chelsea didn't change thier kit today... except Blue socks instead of their white
POSSESSION....SHUT UP...means NOTHING
Rain beginning to fall in Yorkshire.... it rained ALL DAY when I went to the Heddingley for the Cricket with the Hunters
Oh - great cross over there by Jack and Patrick nearly got in. Great saving header by Rudiger.
Great defensive header by Rudiger
I'm jealous - I've never been to Headingley.
Tyler is books for a nasty one on Pulisic.
Match being played in a good spirit, with players apologizing for fouls.
I really hope OGS is watching this match.... and thinking...hmmm....that's the way we should play
Oh - dangerous cross by Chilly. No one running in there. That's why I'm happy that Abraham and Giroud aren't playing today. Giroud gave us lots of problems at the Bridge.
A "filthy day" now at Elland Road. I used to love playing in those conditions, sliding about.
They're talking about the 70s again - they can't stop!
They are still on about the 70 Cup Final
Kante has a go and it's deflected out by Struijk. Corner. Mark 'em up!
They can't shut up about it - it's been 41 years! None of these players are old enough to have been alive for it - it's got nothing to do with today.
Leeds trying to play it out of the back..they do....madness!!
Arsenal gave a goal away in their last two matches like that...Arteta says he wants them to keep playing out of the back..... MADNESS
Bamford down hurt.... hope he is ok
Oh dear - Patrick is down in need of treatment now. Doesn't look good. Kal was able to run off his earlier knock so I'm hoping he can do the same.
Was it his hip hitting the hip or when he landed
He looks in pain
Patrick limping off. He might not be able to continue. Rodrigo would replace him.
It is the one that hit... so maybe just a bruise
Bamford will continue for now. Let's hope he's okay.
Chilly has a crack from the top of the box. Corner, for some reason. I didn't see it. Mark 'em up!
Corner given...I didn't see a touch
Well defended, fortunately. Now let's get the ball back!
Bamford is down again.... he is done
WHAT A BUMMER
Bamford is down again; he won't be able to continue. Sad. Rodrigo to replace him.
Apparently Rodrigo has a goal against Chelsea in the CL for Valencia. Let's have another today, Rodrigo!
Ziyech wins another corner for Chelsea. Mark 'em up!
Mount has a crack from distance. Meslier spilled it a bit but no one was following up, fortunately.
Gjanni gives away a free kick unnecessarily in a promising area for Chelsea. Mark 'em up!
Meslier did well there to punch away and then catch the cross from Chilly.
We haven't really been in the match since Patrick went off. I'm hoping that the boss can reshuffle things at half-time.
Can't believe there aren't any goals... still more exciting than 99% of my lot's matches
Jack has won us a corner now - our first of the match. Let's make the most of it!
Far too deep by Raph - out for a throw now.
Half-time - Well, that's got my heart pumping early this morning. This match has been played at a furious pace and with good spirit. Both sides going at each other. Could easily been a hatful of goals already but it's 0-0 somehow. More of the same, boys!
HT....that was a great half
Rebecca doesn't say she like it... of course...they are going to be "deep" and delve into the Yank's role!
Still not saying it is great match
The rest of the schedule for today is a load of old rubbish. I might give a look to Citeh and Fulham. We've got the Cottagers on Friday.
Becky likes Roy Hodgson's style. She wants to have his baby!
I don't think I will be watching the rest... City just BORE me to tears so I won't watch the Fulham match
I'll keep an eye on Pompey vs Salford on Plus
Teams coming out
I don't like how NBC are talking about this match!!
MORONS
Away we go.....It's Leeds time
The guys on the mic are liking the match
And we're away in the second half now - come on, you Whites!
I hate all this late flag crap!!
Oh - Raphinha was away there but he ran out of gas.
Oh - Havertz got through there. Good save by Meslier!
Chelsea with a chance..... he was wide open...there wasn't much excitement on the mic!
Are these guys watching the same match as me!
I hate the late flag stuff, too. A player could get injured defending a move that should have been flagged off.
Oh - dangerous cross in there but well defended. Chelsea trying to turn the screw.
We're just about hanging on right now - tough period for us. I'd like to see Klich on at some point.
Tommy Tuchel's puffy coat is ridiculous.
DAMN....how did that not go in!!!
Oh - Raphinha nearly scored! Great save by Mendy again!
Didn't hit it well...hit on the ground that could have helped it... well saved
Useless corner and now another... comes to nothing
At least that was a chance - we needed that in order to build the confidence again.
"It's difficult to distinguish between the buns." LOL! We are the man bun team.
Pulisic tries one from the near post. Well covered by Meslier.
Pulisic gives away a dangerous free kick for us now. This one has to fly in!
Dangerous free kick delivery.... headed out
Great ball in but Rudiger defended it well for a corner. Come on!
Not a good look in my book
Cleared out and Gjanni's effort was scuffed.
This is one of the few matches this season where we haven't dominated possession.
Oh - Chilly nearly in there.
Inside the last half hour now - surely there are changes to come soon.
And here it comes - Helder Costa to come on, probably for Jack.
Oh - nearly there for Raphinha. Pulisic blocked him out.
Leeds almost in a the back post
Corner....come on Leeds...IT IS LEEDS TIME
James and Werner being readied to come on.
Now Ayling is down in a lot of pain.
From my stats from before
Italy won the WC in 34 and 38.... so they were World Champs for SIXTEEN years
That would be ridiculous if Luke picked up a knock after the whistle had gone.
Ziyech and Pulisic off and James and Werner on.
Meanwhile, Ayling comes off for more treatment.
A lovely warm bowl of oatmeal has arrived at my side now. Yum!
Cannot believe this is still nil nil
I don't think Leeds would be "pinching" a win
Dreary with his screaming of the shooter.... so predictable and annoying
Rudiger tries a pop while Peter Drury screams his name out. Saved easily by Meslier.
I agree with you, mate. We've been in this one right from the start and have had plenty of chances.
Rodrigo picks up a needless booking now.
Another booking.... late in games... refs just like booking players...they seem to get paid more with the more cards they give
Gjanni needs to mind his p's and q's now.
Rodrigo to be subbed? A sub being subbed
Deflected.... over the bar....BUGGER
Oh - that shot could have gone anywhere!
Useless front corner post
THEY NEVER COME OFF
Oh - Rodrigo with a free header! Should have scored!
another header.... straight at the keeper!!
Why aren't these guys talking about Leeds being on top now!!
Rodrigo is getting the hook now - Bielsa clearly wants some cover. A bit of a conservative move from Bielsa to protect the point. I don't like it.
We've definitely had the better of it for the past five minutes, but this could swing either way. It's been an absorbing match.
Inside the last ten minutes now - come on!
A big lay off for Leeds after the Fulham match...done for the month!
There's a "brotherhood" between Leeds and the Blades? First I've heard of it - the two clubs hate either other!
That'll suit us - we can get some players back.
Remember, our clocks change two weeks before the UK
all the matches will be an hour later than normal
Chelsea haven't all the ball!!
Why did that flag go up so early....I think he was on
They have two things in common.... Yorkshire and their love for Tony Currie
You can tell that Bielsa isn't content with this one. He's on his haunches chattering away to himself.
One more chat about the 70 Final
And Drury is back to talking about 1970. The war's over, granddad!
Unlucky not to get a corner there
Late corner now for Chelsea. Mark 'em up!
Blow up, ref! We'll take a draw.
After the first half... can't believe it ended goalless
Glad Chelsea didn't get all three
I am off for errands...not sure how much I will be around
If not, talk to you tomorrow
TTFN
I'm more than happy with a draw against one of the top six sides. Interestingly, the two other draws we've gotten this season have both been against top half sides at home. It leaves us in 11th on 36 points now from 28 matches. Four points left to get from the last 10 matches. Next up is Fulham away on Friday.
I'm the same, mate - the rest of the matches are a bit rubbish, so I'll be in and out.
Next up is Palace v. WBA. I'll probably take a shower during this one. A Baggies win is probably the best result for us in this one.
I'm back from a refreshing post-match shower and settling in for some grading. Palace have just got a penalty. Milivojevic slots home and Palace are 1-0 up.
That goal pushes us back down to 12th now, Palace up to 11th. We've got a match in hand on them, though.
Half-time in the 10am kickoffs. Palace are still leading 1-0.
In the Championship, Bournemouth are 2-1 up on Barnsley, Cardiff and Watford are locked at 1-1, and Boro are 2-0 over Stoke. In the earlier kick-off, Swansea are 0-1 up at Luton.
Coming down to the end at Selhurst Park and Palace are grinding out an uninspiring 1-0 win that will lift them over us into 11th.
I'm back after lunch now. Palace have wrapped up their 1-0 win over hapless WBA, who are stuck in 19th on 18 points from 29 matches now. Not a lot of hope for them to survive, with only nine matches remaining. Realistically, they need six wins from those. Ain't happening.
There's a right old ding dong going on at Goodison with at last some goals this morning. I'm still working on my grading though. It's 1-2 Burnley, with goals from Chris Wood and Dwight McNeil responding to DCL's goal for the Toffees.
Coming down to the end of this one. Burnley hanging on to a slim margin, which would give them three priceless points that would almost assuredly secure them another drab year in the Premier League.
In the late match, Fulham are currently holding the league leaders 0-0. I'm hoping City put a dozen by the Cottagers today.
It's all over at the Cottage today. Citeh made heavy weather of this one at first but have run away 0-3 winners. I'm hoping that we can put some more hurt on Fulham on Friday.
Over and out from me today. Make sure to put your clocks forward tonight. I'll see you in the morning.
