Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

I don' like the lack of firepower off the bench

I think I would have put Watkins in for Saka
JWP free kicks might be missed

I just don't get why Lingard is starting tomorrow!
Will he have a blinder? Will he not care?

Southgate has just confirmed that Lingard is starting!!

Why so many defenders?

I wouldn't have one of the fullbacks
I wouldn't have Coady

That would give room for at least Lingard and Watkins

Thanks for starting this conversation. I'm not at all surprised by that squad of 26, as I think I predicted all of the seven who either dropped out or were dropped.

It strikes me that Gareth probably knows his first XI already and thus he's just planning now for injuries or suspensions to the starters rather than trying to plan for more than one to play.

The forward line will of course be built around Kane as the lone striker who will be relied on to provide the bulk of the goals. I expect Sterling to be the one to provide the width, so DCL will be used off the bench if we need goals and the likes of Sancho, Rashford and Saka will replace Sterling if he's having a bad game.

I'm happy to see Kal in the squad and I think he's got a chance of starting against Croatia, although I wonder if Gareth won't plump for Declan Rice instead. I think of Foden and Grealish as midfielders rather than forwards. I'm assuming that there will be some kind of diamond with Mount or Foden at the top and Rice or Phillips at the bottom. If Gareth is feeling nervous about Croatia, he'll play Jordan Henderson. If he's feeling more confident, then he'll go with Grealish - and I hope he does.

Four across the back for me - my choices would be TAA, Maguire, Stones and Chilwell, but I wouldn't be unhappy to see Shaw or Walker used. Able replacements in Coady, James, and Mings.

Pickers in goal for me. He's been there.
