Away with the 4th Round!
Afternoon, chaps! It's 4th Round time in the FA Cup and we start with a bang with United's match-up with Middlesboro. The hosts are hot favorites, of course, but it will be fascinating to see what side Ralf Rangnick decides to put out against the Championship side. I'm over in the office doing my Friday routine and will be heading home just in time for kickoff. See you then!

Good Afternoon, Bob. Thanks for getting us started. Less than 48 hours ago we were dealing with WC qualifying
Pogba starts for the Red Devils!
Hendo
Mags
Varane
Dalot
Shaw
Pogba
McTom
Bruno
Sancho
Rash
Ronny
I like the line up
Good Afternoon, Dave. Interesting lineup. That's more like it despite a couple of the regulars being rested
United need to start winning the FA Cup more often
Only twice this century, after winning 2 in the 80s and 4 times in the 90s
Won it in 04 and 16
Lost in the Final in 05, 07 and 18
I think this should be the line up!!
I don't care that Fred is rested
Who else should be starting?
Where they are at the side line was close to MY seat at Old Trafford
Hendo starting in place of De Gea. I guess other than that a good starting lineup. I like the 4-3-3 better than 4-2-2-2 or the diamond
I have the Plus coverage on the ROKU on. Casey Keller, Craig , Burley, and not sure who that is with them
Nedum Onuha on the touchline as they mentioned that the last time these two met in cup competition was the LCin 2015. I remember, ber that . United lost on penalties after a 0-0 draw. It was a dreadful match to watch
Afternoon, chaps - I'm just wrapping things up in the office and will join you at home shortly.
Here are the full line-ups:
Manchester United: Henderson, Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Shaw, McTominay, Pogba, Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Sancho, Ronaldo.
Subs: Jones, Mata, Grant, Fred, Heaton, Wan-Bissaka, Matic, Elanga, Mejbri.
Middlesbrough: Lumley, Anfernee Dijksteel, Fry, McNair, Jones, Crooks, Howson, Tavernier, Taylor, Sporar, Balogun.
Subs: Hall, Payero, Peltier, Wood-Gordon, Watmore, Bamba, Connolly, Coburn, Boyd-Munce.
Referee: Anthony Taylor (Cheshire).
Good Afternoon, Bob. Look forward to chatting with you.
BUGGER! Champ and TT on the mics . Not looking forward to that.
It's 41 degrees at OT. About the same as here.
Good coverage so far EXCEPT we have to deal with TT
He is going to go on his rants for ten minutes ignoring the action on the pitch
Here come the teams...Not liking that United are wearing white socks.
No need for that to change from black
Ralf and Chris Wilder each holding a wreath to commemorate the 64th anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster
As I said, I like the line up but the bench is WEAK
I would have started Lindy , but he's taking a couple of days off for personal reasons.
Old Trafford looks lovely
I've been there!
Other than Mata and Obi Wan ,. not much of note top excite and even Obi Wan doesn't attack that much. point well taken about the bench
That was a great Boxing Day for you and your sons.
De Gea is the only one that I would call a starter that isn't starting
They're off from OT!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
It sure was!!
Great memories...hope to go back again....with Kathy this time
Away we go.
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
WIPE THE FLOOR WITH EM
Start fast
Start going forward
Start ATTACKING
Nope...we are going along the back four
ooooh....United hit the bar!!
Sancho with a good effort...Bruno doesn't' net the rebound
That would have done Sancho some good
Still hasn't scored at Old Trafford....had that one goal take n off him for an OG
YIKES! Sancho nearly gave United the lead. Chipped Lumley in the Boro goal, but came off the bar then Bruno well over with the rebound. Great start from United
Here goes TT being "deep"
JUST SHUT UP
Nice ball...Rash almost on to it
Nice thorough ball by Dalot for Rash , but Lumley did well to rush out and gather
TT should be a tackling dummy for training sessions and nothing more.
OH! CR7 with a bicycle kick straight too Lumley after what Shaw was a nice cross after receiving a pass from Bruno
oooh....Ronaldo tries a bicycle kick....two numpties on the mic didn't say much!
Great effort
TT...someone needs to tell him it is Boro or Middlesbrough...not Middlesboro
Boro have a free kick... flag is up
TT didn't read the memo about Middlesbrough
Hiya, boys - I'm finally settled into my favorite chair at home. How's it been going so far.
Jon Champion knows how to say it
Training ground routine from Brough didn't come off f. Chipped pass from Howson off the short free kick collected by Hendo
Good Afternoon, Bob. Going well. United nearly took the lead in the first minute. Sancho chipped the keeper, but not case off the bar. How are you?
Ronaldo tries a chip....not a bad idea...deflected
TT is such a windbag
Rash called for a striker's challenge on Fry
Welcome Bob
What was that chip by Bruno...awful attempt
I'm surprised to see Champs and Double T doing this commentary. They're clearly American based because they were actually at the stadium in Columbus the other night for the US v. El Salvador match. ESPN should do better than remote commentary.
McTomain fouled but Anthony Taylor plays the advantage then several passes later an atrocious pass from Bruno ruins a great possession.
I so wish Pogba would go on a run and play the way people say he can play
Or the way that he plays for France!
Agreed, Bob. ESPN needs to do better than TT here. there,or anywhere
I think I'm going to watch Kidderminster vs the Hammers early tomorrow instead of Chelsea vs argyle
Kidderminster v West Ham early on tomorrow
That is one good thing about ESPN having the Cup is that all the games are shown....BUT...they should put one on the telly too!!!
ESPECIALLY the FINAL!!
Me too David
Another corner....another no goal
Maguire Shaw does head over from the corner
Wonder if the no goals from a corner this season is a League stat or in all competitions
Don't understand why United brought in an American coach
Come on United...speed it up again
TT not the only American involved . United assistant, Chris Armas another American , but he's at OT not a U.S. based studio
PENALTY.... Pogba fouled... rugby tackle
Net it Ronny!!
Yes! United have a penalty after Pogba is hacked down.
PENALTY IUNITED! A STONEWALL EASY DECISION FOR ANTHONY TAYLOR AND POGBA DEFINITELY TRIPPED.
What is the keeper doing....he's not exactly going to play with Ronaldo's brain
Had more important kicks.....up he comes...he's missed the bloody pen!!
CR-17 to take....
Oh my! He's missed it! Goalkeeper went the right way as well.
CR7 to take. BLOODY HELL ! IT CLIPS THE OUTSIDE OF THE POST AND OUT FOR A GOAL KICK. MUST BE THE WOIRST SPOT KICK OF HIS CAREER.
How many people can watch Plus at once on an act.
Champ says this is the first time CR 7 has missed a penalty in the Cup. He scored in the 2004 Final vs the Evil Lions
Good question, Dave. Not sure what the limit is for Plus
Bruno volley it over...it was onside
I think it's three at a time, Dave - much like the other streaming services.
Another missed sitter for bruno . Nice lobbed pass and with just Lumley to beat blasts a volley well over to the traveling fans behind Lumley's goal
I'm on Plus through our Verizon account, so that leaves an opening on Bob's account
WAY HAY SANCHO GIVES UNITED GTHE LEAD FROM A NARROW ANGLEW AND IT LOOKED TO TAKE A SLIGHT DEFLECTION. GREAT LONG BALL FROM BRUNO AND YET AGIAN A UNITED PLAYER GOT BEHIND THE BROUGH DEFENSE
Yes!!!
SANCHO GIVES UNITED THE LEAD!!
Was it deflected again!! It will be another own goal
Will this one also be credited as an OG? it shouldn't
Wahay! Sancho puts United 1-0 up - it was coming!
Matt is on FaceTime with me asking about it
He just said....I just heard that Greenwood is beating people left and right......too soon?
Nice long ball from midfield and a first time volley across the goal from Rash results in a nice diving gather at the feet of Sancho
Matt is on...thanks Bob
LOL, Matt! That's an accurate description.
They said there isn't as much scrutiny for goals in the FA
Did he say it would be his?
FOTMOB gave it Sancho
So does the BBC
OH! Nice attack from United . Nice run and pass from Bruno then passes to CR 7 and his pass was too far in front of Rash for what would have been an easy tap in
I agree, David - he certainly did benefit from the deflection but it should be Sancho's goal nonetheless.
Glad Sancxxho got credit ., That was the right decision
BUGGER..... Rashford scores...but the flag is up!
Well off
Glad to hear that Matt is taking advantage of it.
BUGGer! Rash with a goal disallowed for offside off a pass from Bruno. He was about a foot off, making the run a second too early
Nice finish from Rash - shame that it won't count.
Pogba down with a knock, but gets back up
Don't be hurt Pogba....you need to play every game of the season from now on
United break....Ronaldo...shot saved
OH! Great close range block by Lumley from CR7 on the break that wa led by Bruno then to Rash and a nice through ball from him to CR7
Sad to see our old LUFC Academy friend Johnny Howson now plying his trade at Boro. He had his head turned by Norwich, and this is what happens.
Agreed, Bob. Howson's career hasn't taken off like some of his former LUFC Academy teammates. Sam Byram may follow suit
Boro string a few passes together for the first time in a while. Welcome respite for the Championship side.
Sancho wins a corner off a pass from McTomain
He could have had the same career as Kal Phillips, but he took the first chance to jump to a Premier League side that he had and ended up yo-yoing with Norwich.
Decent corner by Shaw....in a good spot... cleared....of course
The Corner Shaw was headed away by Fry. Playing more like a short order cook
Pogba wins a corner off former United player , Paddy McNair
Training ground routine corner goes to Rash in the D and his shot is deflected over for another corner
Interesting training pitch routine but Rash wasn't on to it quickly enough.
Rash straight to Lumley off the nice corner
Good move...but Rash was a little late
Another corner routine....Rash with another shot...saved
United have played well
Need a couple more
United have out shot Brough 13-1. Unfortunately it's still only 1-0
Should be two or three up at this point.
Pogba cohues up possession in midfield then fouls the player from behind and is booked for that
Pogba loses the ball and then fouls and gets carded
He keeps losing the ball when faffing around the ball
I just said the same thing as TT but 10 minutes quicker
No need to mention that Leeds match Jon!!!
SHUT IT
Wahay! Jermaine Beckford's goal at OT gets a shout-out. I remember it well. I was up out of my chair screaming!
Wahay! Jermaine Beckford's goal at OT gets a shout-out. I remember it well. I was up out of my chair screaming!
Middles BROUGH
For once I agree with TT. He is correct that Brough fortunate to only be a goal down
And an LOB hiccup from me - MOT!
Bob liked the comment so much...he posted it twice
you can shut it too Dahlgren
LOL!
No food or beverage to be sold at half time!
No pies on offer at half-time?!
A chorus of boss after the announcement that no food will be served at the half. Another stupid remark from TT
A minute of stoppage time
Bit of banter about beans on toast between Champs and Double T.
Free header from Bruno straight to Lumley off a cross from CR 7
Supporters chanting they want meat pie
United one up at the half
Half time
United take the lead to the non-food half time
Need to score more!
Keller can't say Middlesbrough either and he says Coventry the Dahlgren way....wrong
Not sure if the supporters will be more hungry for food or goals in the second half.
Tomorrow is CR 7's 37th birthday. The missed penalty is not how to celebrate his birthday
Champ with an interesting Ralph fact. He's a former student at the University of Sussex
And we're away in the second half. I expect United to run out comfortable winners today.
Second half underway.
COME ON MAN UNITED! SCORE MORE AND OFTEN!
OH! End to end stuff. Poor pass from Isaiah Jones cleared then United break and Lumley rushes out as a sweeper to clear a promising through ball
The Teesiders sure to like to go for former Evil Blades managers. Chris Wilder replaced Evil Neil
Talking about the Evil Blades they have just fallen behind at st. Andrews in a mid table Championship battle
That push by Rash was Rash. Ended and attacking possession
CR 7 called for a foul on Lumley. Didn't see much in that
Teesiders have six out of their last seven leaguer matches, but they're nothing a great increase in quality in this match compared to Championship matches
No urgency yet from Boro to try to level things. It's all United possession so far in this period.
Oh - Rashford should have buried that one!
OH! That's a missed sitter by Rash. Shot over with just Lumley to beat That shaw was a nice pass down the left to Sancho who did well to fin ERash
Oh - now Ronaldo misses after a good run and pick out by Rashford. Game getting stretched out now.
Then into the side netting by CR 7 off a pass from Rash who got a long ball on the break off a poor pass from Gunners loanee, Balogoun
Nice through ball from Sancho to CR & who rounded Lumley, but then ran the ball out of play
Sancho has been great tonight - a lot of the more dangerous moments have come through him - there he plays in Ronny but he can't get his footwork right.
Oh - Henderson is forced into action for the first time - great save!
Taverner finds Matt Crooks and his shot is well tipped over by Hendo for his first save of the match
corner from Marcus Tavernier headed away by the first man at the near post
Billy Sharp ties it upon for the Evil Blades at St. Andrews . Bob will to be pleased
Not at all pleased.
That cross Shaw was headed over by Bruno
LOL! United fans singing "Who ate all the pies?" presumably because of the lack of half-time snacks.
What More does Chris Wilder want from Duncan is to score after coming on fo Gunners loanee, Balogoun
LOL! it sure wan't us who ate the pies.
Maybe time for Ralf to freshen things up.
Tame effort from Rash blocked by Air McNair on his return to OT
Bloody hell - Matt Crooks has equalized. But was that a handball in the move?
GOAL ! MATT CROOKS TIES IT UPO FOR THE TEESIDERS OFF A PASS BYDUNCAN WHATMNORE, BUT WILL IT BE CALLED OFF FOR HAND BALL OFF HIS PASS?
Surely there will be a VAR check on this one.
Nice cross from Isaiah Jones but controlled by Dunc's hand. Where is VAR
Not sure why this one has been counted but it's 1-1. Sorry, chaps!
How did VAR not call that off ? What is the point of VAR? That was a really easy decision.
Thanks, Bob. We need to keep attacking , but not missing sitters
How did TT not think it wasn't hand ball. The rules state a goal cannot count if a hand was involved even if it was accidental. TT needs to study the rules before opening his big mouth
Jayden Bogle may know bogel , but the Evil Blades have come from behind to lead 1-2 at St. Andrews
It was clear that Watmore controlled the ball with his hand.
I guess the rules have changed. I disagree with TT . I thought it was ball to hand
Then Whatmore puts through Sporar and he forces a nice kick save from Hendo
According to ITV’s touchline reporter Gabriel Clarke, Chris Wilder and everyone else in the Boro dugout were surprised that the goal was awarded. But here we are.
Marcus Tavernier booked for a foul on Pogba
Oh - Rashford burst through and pulled a great save out of Lumley.
Rash pout through but his powerful shot beaten away by Lumley
Other than TT and Anthony Taylor everyone else thought it was hand ball
OH! Rash puts through CR 7 and his pass was too far behind Sancho for a tap in
Oh - what a giveaway from the Boro defense but Bruno could only find the post!
Stupid foul by Maguire on Matt Crooks
I am back from being on the phone
Bloody useless....United have squandered so many chances and why isn't it a handball?
United have missed an absurd number of chances, and now we’re sailing towards the business end of proceedings, when nerves start to jangle.
BRUNO.....missed an open goal and that rubbish attempt
Totally agree with you, Dave. Welcome back.
Martin Payero on for goal scorer, Matt Crooks
Welcome back, Dave I agree with you too.
Why would you bring Fred on at this point?
Bloody Hell! Why is Fred coming on when we needs goals. Elanga coming on makes sense
Dalot wins a United corner
Corner now. Someone needs to put one on Harry Maguire's noggin.
That Shaw alas a decent corner, but Pogba leaning back, heads straight to Lumley
Elkanga for Rash which is like for like and Fred for Pogba, which is a defensive change as Ralf makes a double substitution
I hate TT....have I said that before
Come United...SCORE
About ten to go
It's over at St. Andrews and Evil Blades have come from behind to win 1-2. Sorry, Bob
I'm not a fan either. I understand that broadcasters want to have American voices on these commentary teams, but there are better ones out there. I always enjoyed John Harkes and Eric Wynalda, but they've both been banished.
Another atrocious cross by Bruno
Not wanting extra time. United need to win this in regulation.
I enjoyed Kyle Martino. Not sure what happened to him?
I have to give up my computer for bit
Hopefully United win it before I get it back
