A Very Big Thursday Afternoon
I'm on pins and needles as I settle in to watch my beloved Leeds United this afternoon. The fun has left along with Marcelo Bielsa, replaced with a gritty relegation pitched battle to the end of the season. Every match is a cup tie, with priceless points on the line. It starts today, with Aston Villa visiting the hallowed Elland Road stadium. We drew Villa 3-3 at Villa Park a month ago; today, we need a win and three big points. If we were to get two from today's match and Sunday morning against Norwich, as well as a point at Wolves Friday week, we'd end March on 30 points and would breathe a lot easier. Come on, you Whites! #MOT!

Along with of course the big one for me against Villa, there are three other matches in the Premier League kicking off now at 2:30 pm EST.
Of course, I want to see a Chelsea away win at Carrow Road - that's crucial. We also need a Wolves win against Watford. And although Newcastle are almost out of trouble, a Southampton win would be nice there.
There are also some Europa League matches going on right now, with West Ham 1-0 down to Sevilla in the second half.
Yes! Chalobat has nodded home easily from the first corner. Chelsea 0-1 up already!
The team news out of Elland Road:
Leeds United: Meslier, Dallas, Ayling, Struijk, Firpo, Forshaw, Koch, Raphinha, Rodrigo, Harrison, James.
Subs: Bamford, Klaesson, Llorente, Gelhardt, Cresswell, Summerville, Greenwood, Klich, Shackleton.
Aston Villa: Martinez, Cash, Chambers, Mings, Digne, McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Ramsey, Coutinho, Ings, Watkins.
Subs: Konsa, Sanson, Buendia, Traore, Young, Olsen, Bailey, Chukwuemeka, Iroegbunam.

Wahay! Teams in the famous tunnel at ER now. Leeds players draped in Ukrainian flags. Come on, you Whites!
We're set to go and Villa get us underway at Elland Road. Come on, you Whites!
Early corner to Villa - mark 'em up!
Nice overlap from Junior Firpo but the ball in got cut out at the near post.
The Elland Road crowd is kicking every ball.
Wahay! Chelsea have gone 0-2 up and Wolves have taken the lead against Watford. That's the bottom two losing early on.
We'll need to keep an eye on Jacob Ramsey who ran us a bit ragged at Villa Park.
Just checking in
Norwich 2 down
Watford 3 down
Newcastle 1 down
COME ON LEEDS!!
I can stay here until half time I think
Tyrone Mings is still suffering after that Dan James challenge.
I have the Chelsea match on my phone with 5Live and Leeds on the computer
Hiya, Dave - yeah, the other scores are definitely going right for us. We just need a goal.
Crazy news out of Chelsea....how will this affect them!!
I still can't wrap my head around it. Roman can't sell the club because his assets are frozen. So, what happens?
They can't sell home tickets... season ticket holders can go because they have already bought them.
As for Cup games, it might have to be played behind closed doors!
Their club shop is closed
Just relegate them!!
Norwich, Watford and Chelsea.... Leeds safe!
Apparently Wolves' second goal was a spectacular o.g. by Cucho Hernandez, the guy who scored the overhead kick against Arsenal at the weekend.
Watkins in the book....that was nasty!!
Is VAR going to check? Of course, not against City or Pool
That would work for me!
Oh - Raph was nearly in there but he was flagged offside anyway.
Chris Wood equalizes for Newcastle
Raphinia....should have done better....offside anyway
I thought that was red card territory from Watkins as well.
I love how we're chasing down everything.
Leeds next matches
Villa
Norwich
Wolves
Southampton
Leeds
Win 3 or 4 of them!
Another Villa corner now...mark 'em up!
That's the plan. I'd like to see us finish March on 30 points.
Bugger...sorry mate
Bugger! A massive scramble in the box and Coutinho's deflected shot evades Meslier.
We're 0-1 down.
Luke Ayling having a "chat" with the ref now about fouls that haven't been called for us.
Oh - Danny Ings with a looping header just over the bar.
Rangers have a pen in the Europa League.... One Nil at home to Red Star Belgrade
Come on ER Faithful...make some noise again
It's just not clicking up front for us right now.
Leeds are misplacing simple passes here...CONCENTRATE
Struth....almost calamity for Meslier
Oh - Ilan nearly gave me a heart attack there. Just got away with it.
I agree - I'm only hearing the Villa fans now.
HT at CR
0-2
Ings picks up a free kick off Luke Ayling now. Mark 'em up!
That scoreline works well for us.
Decent effort there well saved
Rangers are now two up
Douglas Luiz tries to catch Meslier out. Parried out by the young Frenchman.
Good Afternoon, Bob and Dave. Back from picking up Elizabeth from Walmart two see Leeds one down
COME ON LEEDS! MOT!
Hi David
Welcome, David!
What an atrocious free kick by Dallas....a professional!!!
At least the Hornets and Canaries are getting stuffed.
Free kick chance now - poor delivery from Dallas. Why is he taking it?
Corner to Leeds...COME ON
Thanks, Bob and Dave. Hope I can be bring some MOT Mojo
Yeah - that's a blessing for us.
Corner now for us - this one must go in!
AN EVEN WORSE CORNER!!!
That is pathetic!!!!
Such a poor corner from Jack. My god!
This Thursday Jesse Marsch needs two top what Lamps did last Thursday. Any guesses?
I hope you can, too, mate. We need it. Not playing well at all.
I hate all these players hiding their mouths when they are talking!!
Are we all lip readers!!
Viduka and O'Leary in the crowd
Vidukes and O'Leary in the stands today.
Leeds are still confused with their simple passes!
Oh - Rodrigo goes down in the area. I didn't see much in it but we could use a cheap one.
I don't understand your question David
I agree, Dave - I think they're really nervous.
Another corner for Villa now - mark 'em up!
Nice save by Meslier
Last Thursday Lamps defeated Luke Gerrard of Boreham wood , so today we want Jesse Marsch to defeat Stevie G. Therefore, he and Lamps would both be defeating Gerrard
Oh - McGinn pulled a great save out of Meslier. But why do we keep giving the ball away!
Decent near post turn around by Meslier from John McGinn
Not the most convincing keeping from Meslier off the corner, but Leeds counter then Villa do
Red Star get a pen at Ibrox but miss it
Still 2-0 hosts
Dan James Cashes in off a foul from Matty
Geez.....Leeds passing!!! They are screwing up five yard passes!!
Leeds look like United going forward right now!
Another... short pass...off the mark!
Not sure if this was mentioned but Sevilla defeated the Hammers 1-0 in the first leg of the Round of sixteen in the EL
Douglas Luiz now tries a potshot from distance. Well handled by Meslier.
Leicester take the lead at home
The crowd's really angry - you can hear it from here.
Marc albirghton has put the Foxes one up vs Rennes in the Conference League
Yellow card from Koch now - they're really frustrated.
Koch booked on the COCK for Leeds.
Half time and there are boos
Second half will be better
That is it for me
Best of luck
Villa one up at the half and boos from the ER regulars
Boos from the Leeds fans at half-time. Not good.
Cheers, Dave . Great chatting . Enjoy the rest of the day
Looks like Rodrigo has come off at the interval. I hope it's Joffy coming on.
Villa keeping us waiting at the beginning of the half. Bit of gamesmanship.
Joffy on for Rodrigo as the second half is underway
Bob will be pleased at that change
Good start from us through Raph - when it came back out Koch shanked it over.
Nice last ditch interception off a pass from Raph. Attacking start to the second half
I'm quite pleased - I think that Joffy has a lot of potential and is a lot more direct than Rodrigo is.
Nasth challenge from Migs the merciless on Dan James and rightly so no mercy from the ref with a booking
Mings picked up a yellow for a rash one on Dan James. Free kick out wide right. Make it count!
Jack wins us a corner now. Come on!
Hopefully Jesse rattled some teacups at the half because he needed to
Pass into the box from Dan James desperately hoofed away
Oh - great ball through from Dan James but no one was following in. I want Joffy diving in on those.
Much better so far - really have them penned in.
Bruno Guimares gives the Tooin a 1-2 lead at St. Mary's. Toon ten points clear of the drop zone
I would sub Struijch. He's been in really poor form of late. In fact I would Struijch a line through his name if it's listed in the lineup
Another great ball in from Firpo this time but no one on the end of it.
Dan James wins s corner now - come on!
Dan James tackled for another Leeds corner. Make this one count
Joffy has a go from distance. Might be the first shot on target all day. It's a start.
Pukki scores from the spot for the Canaries to pull it back to 1-2 vs Chelsea
Lord Bamford about to come on . Bob will be pleased
Wahay! Lord Bamford being prepared to come on.
Jack Harrison comes off - not a good outing for him.
a standing ovation from Leeds fans as Lord Bamford on for Jack Harrison for his first appearance of 2022. A much needed attacking change
Tyrone Mings is down now time wasting.
Phew! Villa break and McGinn tries one from distance. Meslier gathers.
John McGinn shoots straight to Meslier
If only Bamford had been on when there were all of those chances at the beginning of the half.
John McGinn booked for pushing Bamford in the back
Half an hour left for us to dig this one out.
McGin n wasn't booked. It was Doug Lewis for kicking the ball away
Plenty of time Leeds to get all three points.
KEEP PUSHING, LEEDS!
Bugger! We went to sleep and Matty Cash has made us pay. 0-2.
BUGGER! Matty cash has put leeds two up. he was left wit e open. Sorry, Bob.
In the meantime, Norwich have pulled one back - a penalty by Pukki.
Nice cross from Danny Ings, but horrible defending from Junior Firpo as he was easily turned by Matty Cash , who then shot eight under Meslier, who should have done better
A big hole to dig out of now.
The final roll of the dice from Jesse Marsch as Adam Forshaw has been Kliched off. That's a good attacking change
Villa fans giving us the Joy Division treatment once again. Grrr!
Oh - Coutinho somehow found his way through the whole defense. Meslier grabbed it.
PHEW! Horrible Leeds defending as they failed at five attempts to tackle Coutinho then his shot comfortably saved by Meslier
Ruben Neves has put wolves four up vs the Hornets
Too much long ball from us - I agree with the color commentator.
That's certainly good news for us.
Morgan saison on for Danny Ings as Stevie G about to shut up shop
Bugger! Chambers curls in a third goal.
BUGGER! CALLY CHAMBERS PUTS VILLA THREE UP WITH A NICE FINISH IN THE UPPER 90 OFF THE FREER KICK
Free kick poorly headed by Struijch straight to Mings who passed to Chambers for the third goal. Sorry, Bob.
Leeds fans headed for the exit
Kai the Guy has put Chelsea 1-3 up at CR. That's a bit of good news
Coutinho could have made it four there. Our spirit seems to be crushed at this point.
That helps us - the only thing that is working for us is that there are other sides in equally poor form.
Buendia on for Coutinho , who gets a deserved ovation from the visiting Villa fans
wolves have defeated the Hornets 4-0
Agreed, bob. It seems that 32-34 point may be enough to survive this season
Chelsea have won 1-3 at CR
Rangers go three up vs Red Star Belgrade in the EL
I didn't notice that Matty Klich has joined the action. Not sure who he replaced.
We'll be lucky if we get to 32 points.
Yash about to come on for Villa
I think Klich came on for Adam Forshaw who seemed off the pace in the time I saw him
Hard to say, but I think 32 points is doable for Leeds. I sure don't see the Canaries and Hornets reaching that and possibly not the Toffees
Toon have won 1-2 at St. Mary's , but that one doesn't mean much to any of us. does that mean the Toon are a win from safety? They're on 31 points
Rash on for Doug Lewis on the final roll of the dice from Stevie G
Junior Firpo appears to be needing stretched off. We'll be down to ten men.
Junior Firpo being stretchered off and as that's not due too a concussion, Leeds will play the remainder of the match with ten men
And another round of Joy Division just to send the Leeds crowd home in a depressing mood.
A quintet of stoppage time minutes at ER
Oh - Lord Bamford finally had a chance but scooped it over badly. If that had curled in, then it would have ended the match on a high note.
Well over from Bamford from just outside the box
A goal would have been great psychologically for bot Leeds and Bamford
Raph picks up a yellow card for kicking the ball away. He seems particularly low.
One last free kick chance for us now.
Free kick is catching practice for Martinez and it's over as Villa win 0-3 at ER. Sorry, Bob
Boos again from the home crowd at the end of the match. A really dispiriting home loss for us in what should have been a winnable match. This is a broken side now in real trouble. 23 points from 28 matches. 17 points from the remaining 10 matches needed for safety.
