Hurray, it's Saturday!
Morning, boys - I've settling in to enjoy this morning's fare in the Premier League. We start on the South Coast, with Liverpool trying to keep up with the Guardiolas, with the title race potentially down to three points after this match. That's followed by the usual 10am kickoffs, including another key one for Leeds fans - Brentford v. Burnley. We'll be Bees fans, hoping that the Premier League new boys can drive another nail in Sean Dyche's coffin. Finally, at the end of the day, we've got the marquee match-up between United and Spurs. The winner will take a massive step toward Champions League qualifing.
Join me for every kick, won't you?

On form, you’d surely peg this as an away win. Liverpool have won their last seven straight in the Premier League, as they attempt to keep leaders Manchester City honest and give us all a title race. Brighton on the other hand have lost their last four in a row, and have only won three of their last 22.
The team news out of the Amex:
Brighton & Hove Albion: Sanchez, Veltman, Dunk, Cucurella, Lamptey, Alzate, Bissouma, Mac Allister, March, Maupay, Trossard.
Subs: Mwepu, Gross, Lallana, Moder, Welbeck, Steele, Duffy, McGill, Leonard.
Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Keita, Salah, Mane, Diaz.
Subs: Thiago, Milner, Firmino, Gomez, Jones, Jota, Tsimikas, Kelleher, Elliott.
Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral).
The teams are out! Brighton in yellow and blue - wearing their change strip in support of Ukraine - and Liverpool in red. A lovely sight on a lovely spring day on the south coast. We’ll be off in a couple of minutes.
And we're away in this early one. Critical match for the Reds here.
Oh - Neil Maupay comes mighty close to opening the scoring. Bright start from the home side.
Now then - Salah gets to the by-line and pulls one back for his mate Mane. Not too far away. Corner.
Good Morning, Bob. Up to join you on an unusually chilly March morning
Will be back in a tick . Leaving to brew a pot of hot coffee
Morning, David - happy to have you join me this morning. Chilly here, too. I'll be heading out for some shoveling at half-time, as we got about six inches of the white stuff overnight.
Mane has a chance to release Diaz down the left, but plays the ball behind his man and out for a throw. A big chance to carve Brighton open spurned.
Cheers, mare. Glad to join you. We got about six millimeters. Stuck only to the leaves, roofs, and cars. Does that count?
Oh - Maupay picks up an errant ball and nearly slips in Trossard.
Keita gifted possession to Neil Maupay and his through ball for Leo brossard was too long and gathered by Allison
Doesn't sound like you'll be bothered to shovel this morning. Well done!
GOAL! Dias steers in a first goal, but will it count?
Dias down for the count for the moment.
Luis Diaz down for Pool. Late punch by Robert Sanchez as he knocked out Luis Diaz who scored with his head while the punch occurred.
Poor stuff from Sanchez, who took at the Liverpool forward. VAR check for a red card offense for Sanchez.
VAR checking. I think the Seagulls keeper is going off for an early bath
No further punishment for Sanchez. I'm surprised - that was a cheap shot.
But Liverpool has an away lead and Diaz seems okay to continue.
Nothing doing after a VAR checking. Absolutely nothing. What's the point of VAR? That's endangering the safety of the player
Liverpool now within three points of Citeh at the top, keeping the title race interesting.
Agreed, Bob,. That was a cheap shot. It was basically assault. How did he escape without even a card?
Brighton fans getting restless now. This would be a fifth consecutive loss for them.
The ball comes through to Robertson who lashes at it rashly.
This Season has horribly fallen apart after a great start for the Seagulls. Probably all but safe this year, but not in any other year
They do seem safe in 13th on 33 points with nine to play after this one. One more win should do it for them.
Everyone was talking about them being in the CL. We knew bette r that it was an absolute nonsense
Dunk gives up another corner chance for Liverpool.
Any comments on our six millimeters of snow? Thought you might get a good laugh
Mane with a tame header that Sanchez gathers.
Hi Boys
I already took a little trip to Starbucks this morning for Kathy and Doug. I was listening to the footer...it was all Brighton and now it is 1-0 Pool
Thought we were supposed to get snow overnight but it has just started.
Supposed to get 9-12
Did you et hammered Bob?
Yeah - I was remarking earlier that you'll have the morning off. I'll be heading out at half-time to do my digging. I've got a good podcast lined up to keep me company.
Good Morning, Dave. Did they say anything about Robert Sanchez becoming a professional boxer?
Morning, Dave - you lucked out. Yeah - we got about half a foot. It'll take me half an hour or so to clear.
Well....it's coming!
Sorry you have to shovel. Hopefully this will be one of the last times as it's mid March. In South Texas I would be in shorts some years by mid March, but not here
We'll likely get one more storm coming through in late March or even early April. We always try to time putting down the grass seed for the season right before the last expected snow.
Dave you probably rolled your eyes at our amount o f snow. I don't even know if that qualifies as a sneeze. Only stuck to the leaves, roofs ,and cars
Hers an oddity for our area. No snow in either December or February, but in March. I guess that's a possible combo
Glad I missed the VAR fiasco crap again!
I have got 5Live. There isn't live commentary of it but talking about everything
I guess I can tune in the Cock
I am so fed up with NBC
Solly March commits a foul in March
We didn't really have much snow in the back end of 2021, but 2022 has started with a lot of storms rolling through.
USA is playing the Winter Paralympics stuff this morning.
Dave , I don't get it. It was vocalically assault. If we did what Robert Sanchez did we would have been arrested for assault and had out teacher certification revoked. He didn't even get a card. Doesn't make sense
Salah has a go but Sanchez clutches it out of the air.
We hardly got any snow this winter. I have only used the snowblower a handful of times
Had a couple recently
Did the commentators agree with you?
Totally agree with you, David. It was similar to that famous Schumacher assault on Batiston in the 1982 World Cup semifinal.
I think the Paraolympics started right after the Olympics ended. The Paralympics should be coming to a close pretty soon
Am I correct that we go to DST tonight. Can anyone verify?
Good point, Bob. I think Schumacher's was worse because he went out to deliberately injur an opponent t. Sanchez was clumsy and mistimed, and not as vindictive, but still a red
Just turned on the Cock
WHY ON EARTH ARE BRIGHTON WEARING AWAY KIT!!!
Oh - Salah got around the back of the Brighton backfour but Sanchez stood up when he tried a cheeky one at the near post.
Spring Forward....less sleep!
Nice solo run by Salah getting past Bissoma and ran out of real estate and Sanchez made a near post kick save. No TKO this time
I think it's a Ukraine tribute.
Yeah - although the UK hasn't gone to Daylight Savings yet, so the early one with us and Norwich isn't on until 10am.
Thanks, Dave. Won't be around tomorrow. Jacquelyn and I will be at Elizabeth's aunt's house. Jacquelyn going to the local theater to watch a BTS concert. Will come back some time tomorrow.
Used to be in April and October
Now it is March and November
I know this because Matt was born on the Tuesday have the clock change in April 96 and Tom was born on the Tuesday after the clock change in October 92
Weirdos!
A pair of stoppage time minutes
Agreed, Dave. The old time schedule made more sense than now. Don't like it
Barnsley take the lead against highflying Fulham!
This one is winding down to half-time, so I'm going to hop it and clear the driveway. Back when I can.
I was worried the roads would be iced over on the drive to the Atlanta metro area, but should be okay
Just looked it up
UK doens't change until March 27
Snow flurries and gusty winds starting over here. First time I've seen March snow since I think 1977 in Mildenhall Village
Liverpool one up at the half
They are off for teh second half
Wow!
Big chance for the the Seagulls...the shot might have hit a seagull!!
Where you in England when there was a "big" storm.
School was called off as we were heading to Feltwelll! We contintued to school and spent the entire day in the gym playing paddle tennis !
Back for the second half a trip to the bog and taking Kai for a walk on a bitterly cold morning with a strong breeze swirling around the flurries
I think I remembered that. It was I think in January of '79, which would have been our last year at Feltwell. That was an u8nusually snowy winter, but I don't think any March snow.
Lallana down injured . Off and replaced by Pascal due to what appears to be a gross injury
Will Pascal Gross score another stoppage time equalizer as he did last year? I'm betting against that
OH! Shot from Salah that took a wicked deflection came off the bar then Mane blasted the rebound well over. I don't think that was on the Mane
A missed sitter by Salah on the breakNice run by Luis Diaz then passed a nice through ball to Salah who sliced a shot well wide
Penalty to Liverpool
Of course...Pool get a pen
That shot was going about 30 yards wide.... Salah.... two nil
PENALTY POOL! BISSOUMA CALLED FOR HAND BALL OF A POWERFUL SHOT FROM KEITA. Harsh as he used his arms for leverage . Seemed unintentional
GOAL ! BLASTED DOWN THE MIDDLE BY SALAH AS POOL GO TWO UP
Of course it was given...it's Liverpool or City
Agreed, Dave. I don't see what else Bissouma could have done, but I think Pool deserve to be two up on the balance of play. A make up call for the TKO by Robert Sanchez?
Did Allison carry the ball out of the penalty box. It appeared he did. Should have been at least a VAR check. That's a Pool/Citeh type decision for sure
Salah down for Pool. Not looking good and the only good thing for them is that this result seems done and dusted
I think that is so stupid...wasn't intentional... didn't stop a goal.... it was going miles wide
I'm back from my shoveling duty - I see that Pool are now 0-2 up. It sounds as if you lot didn't think that there was much of it.
Maupay caught Alisson there. Maupay is a nasty character and he gets a yellow. Alisson is down needing treatment.
Stupidity by Neil Maupay as he's booked for fouling alison several seconds after he cleared the ball what a numpty
Welcome back, Bob. He was two yards away , used his arms for leverage.A s part of the defender's union it looked ball to hand rather than hand to ball, which even under the new rules shouldn't have been called. VAR didn't overturn it
Not exactly a Fab challenge as he's booked for a lunge on Neil Maupay
Milner on for Hendo, which will please Bob as that adds one to the LUFC Academy Factor and subtracts one from the Black Cats academy factor
In the Championship Barnsley surprisingly one up vs the table topping Cottagers late on and now just two points from safety
Always happy to see Jamie come on. I remember watching him playing for us as a kid right before we were relegated. He's the last of that generation still playing.
Alison did well to push over shot from wellie. That was Wellie done
Fulham have equalized at Barnsley inside the last four minutes
Who - Luis Diaz was on his bike there but Sanchez did well to stand up to him this time.
Nocito Family derby today
Ipswich host Porsmouth
Then Pool break and and Robert Sanchez does well to block at the feet of Luis Diaz. No TKO this time. Had his goalkeeping, not boxing gloves on
WOW ! My brother saw the Nocito Family fixture in 2000 and said it was quite an occasion
Barnsley now four points from safety and still ahead of the Rams in the table.Part of a former MUFC player sandwich
Cottagers fourteen points clear at the top as the Baggies vs Terriers finished Desmond yesterday
A lovely steaming bowl of oatmeal with craisins has arrived at my shoulder. It's my reward for all the digging.
The 10 AM match on USA is crucial for Bob as it's the Bees vs Burnley. I think Bob is hoping that his local rivals really get stung
A well deserved reward.congrats, Bob.
It's over and Pool comfortably win 0-2 at the AMEX
Nice toi see Luis Diaz and Robert Sanchez congratulating each other. Good sportsmanship, but Sanchez deserves to be punished
You are a Bee today...correct Bob?
Fulham miss a sitter into added time
Liverpool's goal was their 2000 goal in the Premier League
Joining Man U in that club
If Arsenal score two this weekend...they will make it a threesome
That's it from the Amex - Liverpool put the pressure on City.
All over at Oakwell... Top Guns Cottagers are held by lowly Tykes
I've switched over to USA for the Brentford v. Burnley.
Of course I'm a Bees fan this morning.
The team news for this one:
Brentford: Raya, Ajer, Jansson, Pinnock, Henry, Mbeumo, Janelt, Norgaard, Eriksen, Canos, Toney.
Subs: Jensen, Wissa, Ghoddos, Onyeka, Jorgensen, Baptiste, Sorensen, Roerslev, Lossl.
Burnley: Pope, Roberts, Collins, Tarkowski, Taylor, Lennon, Westwood, Brownhill, McNeil, Weghorst, Cornet.
Subs: Lowton, Cork, Barnes, Hennessey, Stephens, Rodriguez, Bardsley, Long, Thomas.
Referee: Paul Tierney (Lancashire)
Back from the chill weather. Wid swirled snow. Never experienced this in March in South Texas
Here for the 10 AM match.
COME ON YOU BEES!
We're away in the 10 o'clockers now. Come on, you Bees, indeed!
Free kick Burnley. Looked soft on Coronet just outside the Bees box
Nice curling free kick from Josh Brownhill just wide, but David Ray appeared to have it covered
Maxwell Cornet is definitely the danger man for Burnley - he's got six goals for them since coming in.
Crikey! Nottingham Forest have taken just 17 seconds to go ahead against Reading at the City Ground, with Keinan Davies converting a Djed Spence cross moments after kick-off.
Oh - Mbeuma had a chance there but was on the floor and off balance.
Gary Madine has prodded Blackpool ahead against Swansea, who have conceded nine in their last two matches.
It's snowing in Alexandria. It quite reminds me of Eric's childhood. We'd get that hint of Springtime, but it would always end up with snow or ice on his birthday spoiling any outdoor plans we may have planned for his birthday party. March is the cruelest month.
Get in the Bees. Sink the harpoon into Dyche!
Morning, Steve - great to have you on board. Hope that Eric is having a good birthday weekend. Did that package from Fred-town arrive on schedule?
Good Morning, Steve. How are you? How much snow did you get. Ours looks like powdered French toast/. Really chilly here this morning, but supposed to hit 70 by Thursday
Happy Birthday indeed to Eric
This period of the Fredonia year is often referred to as "Third Winter" by the locals. Suitably, I was out digging for about half an hour this morning. Just enough to get a proper cardio workout.
That Forest goal against Ince's lads its good news for Wazza and Co.
Ooh - I love powdered sugar on French toast.
It certainly is, David - I hope that Derby can perform the miracle. They deserve it.
Hey Boys
I am back after Kath giving me a haircut
I was watching the match and listening to 5Live...of course the radio is ahead of USA
Shef W two up at home to Cambridge
Forest scored after 20 seconds at home to Reading
Forest now two points outsider a playoff spot. Big playoff six pointer tomorrow as sixth placed Luton hosts seventh placed QPR
It did. I've kept it well away but he's mighty curious. He's got plans tonight with Rashad and J-Dub from high school tonight, and then again tomorrow night with Kramer, Ya'Ara, and some others tomorrow for laser tag. Busy weekend for his 30th
The radio said that Sunderland are playing at home vs Crewe and are wearing their away kits.... just like Brighton...both...yellow and blue.... for Ukraine
How's your new barnet, mate?
Agreed about thew Rams. They do deserve it. Clubs managed by former United players are the two clubs in the Championship with points deductions
That sounds fabulous - give him a squeeze for us. Glad the package arrived.
Hiya Steve
How did the haircut go? Will you need a hat for walks do the loss of insulation, LOL?
We've got more than an inch so far, but this afternoon is when it might accumulate. Just a flake f*cks things up here as Kathy's family here can attest.
Short back and sides with the flowbie? Very manly.
Oh - Ericksen with a deflected shot that Nick Pope scrambled away.
Nick Pope does well to turn around a shot from Eiksen from just outside the box
Ours is so little that it looks moire like powdered French toast than snow.
Evil Blades have taken the lead at Coventry
We are too young to have 30 year olds!!
Tom turns 30 in Oct!
That puts the Evil Blades in fifth place and they will stay there if they win and Luton vs QPR is a draw tomorrow,
Too bad - Ivan Toney was nearly in there.
Yes we are. I still think I'm too young to have children;dren in their older 20s. How time flies
I know. It's ridiculous how quick that went. But I'm over 60 now so it's relative.
Billy Bloody Sharp has set up Sander Berge to nod home for the Evil Blades against Coventry.
It is crazy...you are older than my dad was!
Sorry. Evil Blades up to fourth place , three points behind the Terriers and Cherries, but well behind the Cherries on goal difference
How old is Melanie now, David?
Bob will not be pleased that the Evil Blades are the in form team of the playoff hunting teams
Melanie is 22. Her birthday is in July
Wow - that's crazy.
We will se Melanie in Dayton Ohio in five weeks and she graduates on May 12th. We will be in San Marcos for that
Bob will be pleased that Coventry has ties it up vs the Evil Blades
I hadn't thought about that Dave. He really got cheated.
I was reading an article on the new Tears for Fears record and have been torturing Kate with my repertoire of their hits.
Not a Big Club in the last playoff spot in L1. Bob will not want the two Sheffield clubs in the playoffs.
Well done, the Sky Blues!
So, United have the Spurs match later on and the AM on Tuesday and then they are off until April 2 when they host the Foxes
There have been four yellow cards in a spicy opening 18 minutes at the Den, with Boro visiting Millwall.
Very much so Steve! Mom only got to 65
WOW ! So sorry about your mum and Dad, Dave. Agreed with Steve.
A jazz musician I liked a lot Ron Miles died this week at 58 - my age. Definitely gives you pause....
What are all your thoughts on Chelsea?
Could they be in real trouble? Will their trophy winning era be over? Will they lose all their players?
I say relegate them ....save Leeds
Terrible losses both, Dave.
Will Oldham become the first former Prem team to be relegated from the Football League? It's possible
Come on, the Bees - you're just toying with this lot!
I'm not sure about Chelsea. I don't think the trophy winning era would impact them immediately. It depends upon the new owner, but would take several seasons to take effect. That's my two cents worth
I second that, Steve
Potters take the lead at rock bottom Posh
Oh - Mbeuma jinked inside but Tarkowski got a good block in.
Still 0-0 in the Nocito Derby
Go on, Pontus - score one for your friends at Elland Road!
So far, both teams look like they deserve to be relegated
I like all of those ideas about Chelsea, Dave. Can't see it happening, though.
Never a penalty on Coronet in the challenge by Ethan Pinnock. Stumbled and lost his balance.
That would work for me, too, David.
I agree, Bob, but if it does it would take several seasons to take effect
I agree with David. Chelsea have to pick well with the new owners, and they have to stay away from the shiny objects that have kept them from adding trophies recently. Tuchel may be too dour and humorless to do them any good. He's so bloody dour it's annoying.
Of course, there are stories saying Chelsea could go kaput!
I thought of this the other day....will they be banned from Europe? 4th and 5th make the CL?
Of course, I think Arsenal are in such good form...they could catch Chelsae
Thought you would like that, Bob, but with they Canaries and Hornets Pretty much down look s like only one other team to go down. Don't count out the Toffees who have been in the top flight since 1954.
I'm sure that it's a quandary for Chelsea fans. Let's be honest, without Roman's money, they'd be mid-table wannabes. With it, they've won a lot.
Salah went off injured? I see that he could be a doubt for the FA Cup and the Arsenal match
As long as Arteta doesn't raid Stamford Bridge for the Blue's strikers. He can be a bit blind on the striker front.
If we beat the Canaries tomorrow morning, I'll breathe a bit easier. Realistically, we probably need four wins from 10, or perhaps three wins a draw or two.
I didn't see Salah pick up an injury.
Totally agree Bob
That's what bugged me about an ex Chelsea player on Talksport when Newcastle go their money
Who are Newcastle?
Who were Chelsea???
Won the league in 1955
League Cup in 65
FA Cup in 1970
Cup Winners Cup 71
THAT'S IT
Kaput? I don't see that even if they were scuffing around mid to lower end of the table. There are always some worse clubs and naive promoted sides.
Connor Roberts with a good ball in and Mbeuma could only clear out for a corner.
Geez... Cambridge thee down at Hillsboro
Agreed with Bob about what is needed for Leeds to stay up. A win vs the Canaries is massive even if it's a grinder out 1-0 win
Lovely jubbley. Salah has feasted on us before, but it's Mane who really scares me.
Poch got knocked out by RM this week.... will that open up for him to go to OT... I dont think he is the right choice. He can't win with Neymar, M'bape and Messi
