Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

North London Bookends

Morning, boys! It's another big day in the Premier League, with the big North London clubs bookending the action. We get started early with high-flying Spurs against slow-starting Wolves. Then there are the 10am kickoffs, including Leicester v. Soton on USA. Finally, we switch over to NBC for the afternoon clash between Bournemouth and Arsenal.

I'll be joining in when I can around taking care of the twins. Join me?

Hi again - sorry, I had to deal with a poop situation. I had a good week here. It was prep week on campus with quite a few meetings. Getting set to start classes on Monday.

8:26 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

What I saw of this match was not that inspiring. Seems like two sides who both like to play on the break. Wolves might have edged it. Not good enough for a Spurs side who think that they're title contenders.

I can't believe how time flies!!

39 years ago today(a Saturday) I left for college!

I worked at the RAF Mildenhall Post Office the first year after high school. I think I helped out Mr Hunter with the high school team

My dad died on Aug 1st and a couple days later my mom said I should go to college. It was what my dad would have wanted! She didn't want me to go!
As I said, 39 years ago today my whole family drove me to Heathrow and I left home alone for the first time!!

The plan was to fly to JFK and then Ithaca. Stay in a hotel and take a taxi to Cortland and wait on the curbside until I checked in for pre-season at 6pm
I got to Ithaca and one of my bags was lost! I had no address to give them THEN I heard.... Are you David Nocito? It was my dad's Syracuse roommate. He came to pick me up at 1030 at night!
My dad and I had sent a letter to him but it got returned for wrong address. By the time it came back, my dad had passed away. We had a second address and I sent him another letter explaining what happened. He received the letter the day before I arrived. He brought me home, fed me and took me on a tour of the campus and then dropped me off at the dorm. He also got my bag for me.

I can't believe I actually went through with it!

Sorry if I bored you guys!

8:32 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Wow - I can't believe it's been that long. Thanks for sharing that memory. I remember visiting you at Cortland during that first year. I took a Greyhound and it took all day to get there!

Didn't you come on the team bus for a game?

8:40 AM

Back from walkies . Looks like I didn't miss much

8:47 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

This scoreline suits me; it would mean that, with a draw against Chelsea tomorrow, we'd be level on points with Spurs. And Wolves would be mired in the bottom half where they belong.

Hiya David

Off for my haircut very soon, shower and shave and then Kathy's coffee run!

GOAL ! I SMELL A GOAL, AS ODOR GUARD PIUTS AWAY THE REBOUND AFTER MARK TRAVERS SAVED FROM GABBY JESUS

It was a Brazi combo that set up Odor Guard . A really long Gunners possession that culminated in Gabby Jesus trapping a long ball from Xkha Khan . Then he went on a long run and passed to Martinelli and his shot was saved by Mark travers then the rebound put away by Odor Guard as the Gunners are now top

Nice team goal. A long ball from the back was headed on then Ben White went on a long run . He passed wide right to Saka and his cross found Gabby Jesus but Odor Guard hit it first time to put the Gunners two up

Nice first time curling finish in the upper 90 . Martinelli played a one two for a short free kick then went on a run down the right., His cross made it out to Xakha Khan and his was put away nicely by Saliba to open his Gunners account
