Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Footie is Back!

Morning, chaps! The Premier League is back after a two hiatus...well, sort of. Loads of games have been postponed this weekend, but at least we've got something to watch beyond funeral processions. It all starts with Wolves v. Citeh. I know you guys hate them, but I have to admit that I'm loving watching Citeh these days, if only for the Erling Haaland show. The home side may well have new signing Diego Costa in the fold, so things could get spicy. That's followed by Newcastle v. Bournemouth at 10am. Finally, the day wraps up with Spurs v. Leicester, where Brendan Rogers' job may be on the line.

I'll look forward to the pleasure of your company.

Yes definitely well over. Wolves best chance was right after Citeh scored the first goal when Pedro Neto forced a near post save from Ederson

I have to admit that the Haaland Show is rather fun to watch these days. How many will he score? You've got to tune in to find out. So far it's 14 in his first ten matches, 11 of those in the Premier League.

Grealish has an effort over the mark. Leaning back the whole time.

Glad you had a good week. Hope this weekend proves to be at least a little restful . It will be fun for Kate's parents to visit everyone. I think her stepmom visited a few weeks ago if my memory serves me well.

Correct, Bob. You're quite the Statto. A shame he won't be in the WC

I saw those results from yesterday. It reinforced in my mind that Forest are in real trouble. But I'm surprised that Soton are this bad.

The Bees vs Gunners is an early 7 am match tomorrow followed by a return to Goodison Park for Moyes as the Toffees host the Hammers in a relegation six pointer at 9:15 then that's it for Prem footie for a fortnight

Yes, Phoebe was here for the first two weeks of the semester to help out. But we've eased into a decent routine. Both of us have had a chance to take care of the M&Ms for extended periods now.

8:02 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

LOL! I picked saints to go down so they're actually doing a tad too well. Agreed that Forest is in trouble , but it's so tight at the bottom that one tyor two good results can change that

8:03 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh dear - Wolves are down to ten men as Collins goes in high on Grealish. Bad to worse for the Midlanders.

8:04 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

YIKES! It goes from bad to worse as Nathan Collins is sent off for a really nasty kick in the tummy to Jack Grealish. A really awful challenge

8:05 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now I wonder if it's going to be a cricket score

Since we last had a chance to chat during the weekend footie, the big change in the league has been Tommy Tuchel getting the sack and Graham Potter taking his place. What's your view on that move?

8:07 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That's probably it for me, as well. Busy agenda today.

8:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wolves fans booing Grealish. He took hard one to the tummy. That's really poor from Wolves supporters

8:09 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Podence runs onto a good ball from Neves and tries to beat Ederson at the near post. Just wide.

8:10 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree on the sacking of Temperamental Teuton Tommy Tuchel, bout not with the hiring of Graham Harry Potter. He's done well with the Seagulls, but I don't think he's quite ready for the Chelsea job. They probably wanted an English manager. I don't see him lasting long . We will see after the international break

8:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

They're just frustrated about how poor their side have been this season.

8:12 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Spuds will move up to second with a win vs the rick bottom Foxes in the late match. The Gunners need to win at the Bees to move back to top spot headed into the break

8:13 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I'm sure the supporters are, but I think they will manage to stay up.They should be glad Forest and Foxes are so poor because that's two out of three spots taken

Back from talkies and Citeh still two up. Doesn't look like I missed much

8:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bob feeding M&M more than Wolves are their forwards.

BOOM BOOM!

8:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Matty Nunez booked for a nasty foul on a Citeh break then Ruben Neves talks himself into the book. Ryan Ait Nouri could have been booked for a foul on KDB as well

8:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jose Sa did save well from Haaland off a run and pass from Jack Grealish then Phil Foden shot the rebound well over

8:56 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL ! EASY PEASY AS PHIL FODEN EASILY PUTS CITEH THREE UP

8:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Haaland played a slide rule pass to KDB off a typically long Citeh possession . Then KDB passed to Foden at the far post , who back heeled in from a couple of yards out

It's over and Citeh comfortably win 0-3 at ten man Wolves without really getting into top geer

9:23 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Very comfortable for Citeh. The scary thing is that Citeh barely got out of second gear and they still rolled Wolves 3-0.

9:39 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Those Christian Pulisic adverts are a bit embarrassing given that he rarely gets a match for Chelsea. I wonder if Potter will fancy him more?

Everyone is up on Newcastle and down on Bournemouth....they have the same points! That is weird!

Well...losing 9-0, 4-0 and 3-0 doesn't help...but it was to Liverpool, City and Arsenal

10:18 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Citeh are hardly boring this season. They've replaced the dreaded "False Number 9" with the best striker on the planet. I'm just curious to see how many he's going to score every time he plays.

10:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Quality?

10:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't care how many goals they score...they are still boring!

They keep the ball and pass !

Watching Arsenal is much better. They go forward and attack

There are time City have no shots and have the ball forever

10:21 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Haaland is amazing! How many will he score?

10:21 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

But it makes a difference to see them playing to an obvious target man - they're much more direct as a result.

10:21 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I need some fantasy points from Toon players!

10:22 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Well, if he stays fit, you could see him scoring 40 goals in the league, maybe 50+ overall. Jimmy Greaves territory.

10:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I know what you are saying but I still find the passing of the ball so tedious!

10:23 AM

10:23 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Agree about Citeh. At least Rodri got a booking for what the other refs let him get away with every. Single. Match.

And is Kal Phillips in witness protection? Bloody Pep. Kal should be on a short list for England's WC squad, not in danger of developing bench sores on his bum

10:24 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That's harder because he's limited to 38 matches. Dixie had 40+ to work with.

10:24 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

It's like Paypal. Eric's clients sometimes send him payment for the dog sitting rather than cash or check.

10:26 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Kal's is a sad situation. I think that he thought he was going to be used like Jack Grealish, in a regular rotation. But there is no shifting Rodri these days, so Kal has only been used in a couple of matches off the bench in the 80th minute when matters are wrapped up. He came on in stoppage time for Haaland against Dortmund the other night.

10:26 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

So, you have to give them your direct deposit information? I don't fancy that. But then I've never used Uber or Air B&B either. Behind the times.

So many aren't playing!

I can't believe that Phillips went to City before the WC...he's played 10 minutes total!

10:31 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

You can. What we did instead was open a separate account with a minimum balance that all the Venmo money does into. Two gigs and Eric was able to put his seed money back into his savings. I'm with you. I haven't linked my Venmo to my checking account for similar fears.

Glad to see Toney get a chance

10:38 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Makes no sense at all. Gareth would be better off bringing in some youngsters who are actually playing week in week out like Eze from Palace.

10:38 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Sure, give Toney a go - I always want to see the hot striker in the league in the squad. That's why Patrick Bamford should have been in when he was scoring. Now he's made of biscuits.

10:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He can never use...player has to be on form!
