Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Hanson reckons that the Germans are so disorganized that it's untrue. O'Neil and Shearer have warned Hanson never to count the Krauts out.
Doesn't look like anyone is with me so I won't play by play.
But I cannot resist asking what the dealio is up with the Dorothy Hamill haircut on one of the German coaches? Any ideas?

1-0 Equador
hiya davey,
ecuador are good value for their lead i think. the poles are playing a patient buildup type of game without any real control of the midfield. ecuador are playing off the lumbering polish back four. the ecuadorans had good chances to put this out of reach for the poles.
but now that the half has allowed them to regroup, i'm expecting more from the polish midfield, more flank play, and maybe several set plays. ecuador, they will probably start to foul quite a lot and i think there's a good chance that their defenders and defending midfielders will tire out.
have you watched the earlier game?
b-t-w, piltdown sam, with psycho and ruud gullit are the lads in the studio with the scrumptious gabby logan. i thought sam would wet himself describing the long throw set piece that lead to the ecuadoran goal. he's such a throwback.
davey,
are you noticing the facepaint on the ecuadoran keeper? looks like a child at a country fair. today it's his national flag. next game, spiderman or a shark!
I am sorry, I just had to go on an errand.
I did notice the face paint.
What are you talking about Gabbby Logan and co?
I mean, where are you watching the game
i'm in my parents flat in london.
i'm really surprized that the poles aren't any better than this. do you remember when the us beat ecuador last year? they're just not that good and the poles are just horrible.
tomashevski, lato, boniek, deyna, they're all kicking in their tellies over this.
I had no idea you were in the Blighty!!!
Lucky you. How long are you there for?
I agree, I picked Poland to win the group. They did a great job in qualifying

Say hello to your mum and dad for me
i'm here for the first round of games. the atmosphere is great. one in three cars have cross of st. george flags flying, there's x of st. geo. bunting over all the pubs, and because my folks live in an area where there are many eastern europeans, there are loads of polish and uke flags as well.
well, got to say that we've seen 4 teams here that wouldn't present much of an obstacle in the second round. did you see the first game? don't want to give away too much if you didn't.
wen't down to camden market today and there are some great tee shirts for sale. saw at least three different versions of 'don't mention the war', a cool one with a picture of hurst blasting the fourth one in with wolstenholmes quote 'they think it's all over...' but i bought the one that's a reproduction of the official '66 poster with world cup willie.
em and wayne say hiya right back. i've told them that kathy is a peach and that your lads are magic.
tell matty that it's down to him to score a hat-trick if you have to miss the paraguay game.
C'MON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a fantastic opening day to the World Cup! I was on a contractual obligation trip to Gainesville, but I caught most of the first match in the Hilton bar and then watched the second match when I got home.
I'm so excited by the prospect of tomorrow's matches I can barely get to sleep tonight. The best thing about the first two matches was that all four sides seemed to really give it a go. Has there ever been a higher scoring first game? They're usually cagey, nervous outings, so I was amazed to wander in at the 16 minute mark and find that three goals had already gone in. That bodes well for the tournament.
The ball might have something to do with it. The Rahm and especially the Frings goal were somewhat down to the movement in the light ball. I'm hoping that Becks and Lamps welly it if they get within 35 yards of the goal tomorrow.
Another excellent sign for England is that all four defenses looked as if they might leak goals. I've never seen a German defense that was as porous. Both Costa Rica and Ecuador look suspect at crosses and the Poles just coughed the ball up time and again in dangerous places. I fancy England's chances against any of those sides.
What a surprise in the second match. I'm certainly going to lose some points in the Predictions Game on the Poles because they looked really poor. Ah well.
Tomorrow is going to be epic. Try to get your predictions in on the Predictions Game before we get too deep into the competition to keep things fair. I'll be on early tomorrow morning and will blog live during England - and probably the other matches too. I hope you'll join me.
