Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Germany vs. Ecuador

This one's simple lads - Germany need to beat the plucky Ecuadorans in order to top the group. Any other result will create the bizarre dynamic in the England-Sweden match later today in which neither team will want to win as it will pit them against the hosts in the next round. So, I never thought I'd find myself in this position, but....

Come on you Germans!

I'll be nipping out to take KC to the airport, so I'll leave the rest of you lads to keep the blogging homefires burning and I'll be back for the England match this afternoon.

3-0 germany and they top group a with nine points and a plus 6 goal difference.

the goals are coming from klose with 4, and then 1 each for lahm, frings, neuville, and podolski. neuville is not part of the starting 11.

it's therefore possible to analyze this and say that the germans are not terribly deep when they need a goal, but can still contain inferior opposition with their reserves.

they may need that 12th man in the stands to get them further than the quarters.

Way hay, I'm back from the airport and it looks like we got the perfect result. Now all England has to do is win or draw and we'll draw a team that just got absolutely tonked by the Germans.

Come on, England!
