Italy vs. Ukraine

I would love to see the Italians go out today to Ukraine - love it! I'm really tired of their negativity and cheating. Come on, Sheva!

Here come the teams.
I bet you they go for a commercial

Andy Gray's just said that Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't trained for two successive days - hurrah!

Blogger United We Stand said...

I agree, save him for the season.
You watched the Skysports report?
It is live at 2

Yeah, it was brilliant. Andy Gray at the chalkboard - he must be the best analyst around.

Come on, let's have an open game with lots of goals.

I concur, Dave. Let's have plenty of goals here.

Blogger United We Stand said...

Both JP and Harksey are already butchering the Ukainian names!

3:07 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

should have done better.
They just let him go straight down the middle

3:07 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

why wasn't he ready for the backheal

3:09 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

goal......
Great start. End to end stuff

3:09 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

GOAL: 1-0! This game already has more excitement than the earlier tense affair. Great strike from Zambrotta the fullback.

3:10 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Wouldn't you butcher Ukrainian names, Dave? Lay off JP and Harkesy. They're the best team we have!

3:11 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'm surprised that the Italians are playing Luca Toni again - he hasn't shown me much. Also Totti making a return after the penalty heroics in the last match.

3:11 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I need a hat-trick from Sheva today!

3:12 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Did you think that the goalkeeper was lacking on the goal? - I just thought it was a cracking shot!

3:14 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think it was a good goal.
I am sorry, I can't JP. He is the classic getting excited for a throw in and monotone for shot off the crossbar!!

3:16 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The Italians are pulling out the theatrics already - did you see Gattuso holding his back after that challenge. He didn't get near his back!

3:18 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

All the U.S. commentators do that. It's always - PERROTTA CLEARS IT OUT! and a low shot from Totti....Bizarre. Must be something to do with U.S. sports. Lots of scoring.

3:19 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I love how Harkesy had to remind JP that he was a U.S. international captain just there. I guess the accent does cause confusion at times.

3:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I have to defend the Italians a little. I have a seen quite a few times where they have hopped right up.
I was surprised

3:27 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'm so tired of the rolling about on the pitch - Gattuso should be castrated for this.

3:30 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh, come on Dave. I know your name's Nocito, but honestly. Did you see that dive in the penalty area just now. That was scandalous! Should've been a second yellow for that bloke.

3:31 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think he slipped

3:34 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Then why was he looking around for the keeper and then winking. Come on, that was as total cheat.

3:37 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

It would have been a better game if Ukraine had scored first. Unfortunately now it's killed the match. The Italians will ride this one goal out for ninety minutes catenaccio style and Ukraine don't have the quality to be able to get it back.

3:38 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am affraid you are right

3:39 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Half-time: 1-0 Italy; After a furious start, this one has ground to a halt, with the Italians going into gamesmanship mode after scoring early.

Sheva really hasn't had a sniff and the Chelski bosses can't be happy with his display in this WC. Again they've played him up front essentially alone and perhaps he plays better with a striking partner. But he must do better in the 2nd half.

3:51 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Second half starting: No changes as yet.

Oh come on, now Cannavaro's down when the ball struck him in the bollocks! Honestly, I'd get the stretcher on and have these guys cool their heels on the side for a few minutes while their teammates are playing a man down.

4:09 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh, nearly an own goal. That would have opened the game up. Bugger!

4:10 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

at least the ukrainians are putting some pressure on

4:10 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh, and now Timoschyuk gets a free header at the back post and it's saved onto the post by Buffon. Buffon's gone down after hitting his head on the post - that might actually be an injury, but I'd still stretcher him off and have bloody Gattuso don the keeper's jersey while he's having treatment.

Come on, Sheva!

4:11 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, well they've got to throw everything at them right now. I reckon that the Italians will tire a bit toward the end. It looks like they'll have one of the forwards off soon.

4:12 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Typical, two great chances and then the Italians go down and score

4:20 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh, that was the chance! First Gusev is put in one-on-one with Buffon and strikes it straight at the keeper. Then Zambrotta clears off the line from Timoschyuk. I'd like to see that one again - I find it hard to believe he didn't use his hand, but there were no appeals.

4:21 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

GOAL: 2-0; Luca Toni stoops to head home his first WC goal. The Ukrainians fell asleep at that short corner and two Italians were unmarked. Toni will be happy to get that goal. Game over!

4:22 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Gusev now has had one off the crossbar - it's just not going right for Ukraine!~

4:23 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

so unlucky again

4:23 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Italians are still going forward????

4:24 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Camaronese could've had a goal there if the cynicism hadn't taken over. It's almost as if his Argentine/Italian brain clicked on - "Must...take...dive." Despicable behavior!

4:28 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

good build up and goal

4:30 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

GOAL: 3-0; Great stuff from Zambrotta again, cutting in from the left and the simplest of chances for Toni. Suddenly he's the leading goalscorer for Italy in this WC.

4:31 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

with TWO

4:32 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The Italians really are quite a good side. If they should just switch off the cynical strategy that they've learned since birth, I might like a bit better. As it is, though, I quite fancy Jurgen's German side. They're quite un-German.

4:32 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, well, they don't have to score much with that back four and Buffon to have to beat at the other end. What is it - three games since anyone's scored against them?

4:33 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I would take a result like this tomorrow.
The Italians, not much done in the first round, struggled to a 1-0 win in the round of sixteen and then this... same again tomorrow for that team in white

4:35 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes, indeed, Dave. I'm hoping that this is the game that England explode.

Honestly, Sheva looks as if he expects it to be laid up on a plate for him. I hope he's as pants as this for Chelski next season.

Oh, goodie, it's Zaccardo coming on. Maybe he'll stick one in for Ukraine and tighten this one up.

4:37 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He is the only one to get it past Buffon

4:38 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That was a splendid own goal!

4:48 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Did you have the Italians in the semis? I'd have to look that up on my stats. I had them playing Argentina - so I'm one for two so far.

4:49 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Germany or Italy - who wins?

4:50 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'll take an England - Germany final. You?

4:50 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh, Sheva really deserved a penalty there. Come on, throw him a bone!

4:51 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

i agree, England vs Germany

4:52 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

See you tomorrow for the big one!!
I have couple of friends coming over for it.
One likes soccer but the other just abuses me.

4:52 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Game over.
Hey, I didn't get disabled.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
See ya mate

4:53 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Full-time: 3-0; A deserved victory, but it has to be said that Ukraine were the poorest of all eight quarterfinalists.

Good chatting with you today, Dave. Yes, the big one for tomorrow. Your a better man than I. I've gotten to the point where it's either solid England fans with me for those matches or no one. I've had a belly load of watching England with people who are either needling me about them ("oh, there not very good, are they?") or having to explain basic things to a newbie.

Come on, England!
