New FIFA Rankings - Same Old Sick Joke!
FIFA has duly announced their revised world football rankings. These are meant to reflect the events of the past month, but consider this:
*Brazil retains its #1 position, despite a poor performance at Deutschland '06.
*Italy has leapfrogged several positions due to its win but is still at #2.
*England has jumped to #5 slot, despite being knocked out in the quarters.
*Sweden has dropped to #22, while Paraguay - who they edged out in the group stages - has jumped to #19.
*Mexico has dropped 14 places to #18 despite pushing Argentina all the way in their second round match. Meanwhile, the U.S. drops 11 places to #16.
Huh?
Here are the current world rankings:
1 Brazil
2 Italy
3 Argentina
4 France
5 England
6 Netherlands
7 Spain
8 Portugal
9 Germany
10 Czech Republic
11 Nigeria
12 Cameroon
13 Switzerland
14 Uruguay
15 Ukraine
16 USA
17 Denmark
18 Mexico
19 Paraguay
20 Côte d'Ivoire

You can scoff at these ludicrous rankings but they do play a part in WC group seedings. This makes it really important that they overhaul the system.
Although, not entirely. If they'd only gone on the rankings, the U.S. would've been seeded - they were ranked #5 after all - and Italy would not have - they were ludicrously ranked #9 before the tournament. So there is obviously something else mysterious going on when it comes to the seeding pattern. Perhaps they count the tournaments that have been entered?
Speaking of rankings... WHO WON OUR WORLD CUP COMPETITION???
Sorry Dave, I completely blanked on it because I was away for the weekend. You won; I'll post it tomorrow.
I didn't ask because of me winning but could you please repeat who won???
How much money was it? Wasn't it $50 each.
Hand it over
I don't believe that there was any cash ever mentioned, but, yes (sigh) you were the winner, United. With Ruud and Skippy leaving, I imagine it's the only trophy United will be winning any time soon!
And today's news is that Gabby Heinze has picqued the interest of the Galacticos too. Oh dear. Can you recall Jonathan Spector before it's too, too, late.
I heard a rumor today that the Arse are close to a deal with Saviola - heard that?
Yeah. Strangely, the boards are not as enthusiastic as I would have thought. He'll come cheap and I definitely rate him. He could be very good for us.
It still looks good to bring in Yaya Toure too.
