Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

You know you want to.

Yeah, I believe that scumbag said it too. It had to be fairly nasty because Zidane is fairly mild-mannered, isn't he?

Splendid find there, Gooner!

I really hope that as some people are saying he will that Zidane does not think that what Materazzi said belongs under the category of what's said on the field stays on the field.

Like with Sinisa Mijailovic before him, if Matarazzi said what's being rumored, he should be named and shamed.

Apparently FIFA has launched a probe into the matter. I reckon if it's true and there were witnesses to corroborate the story, he should get a two-match suspension at least. That would do much more than all of the canned "Kick Racism Out of Football" speeches before the matches.

In case you're looking for the Marxist perspective on the Zidane incident, check this out:

http://www.counterpunch.org/zirin07112006.html

Zirin is the resident sports expert in the ISO, the socialist group that I used to be a member of back in the 80s and 90s, but I don't usually agree with his take on things (e.g. defense of Barry Bonds). Here again, I think he overstates his case in defense of Zizou.

Apparently FIFA is considering stripping Zizou of his "Golden Ball" award. What do you reckon? I think he should be able to keep it despite the head butt.

Sure he should be able to keep it. They gave it to him after that incident so it's totally craven to take it back now. FIFA can't get anything right it seems.
