Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Another Trivial Fact

What did the winners of the Football Writers' Footballer of the Year awards for 1964, 1965 and 1966 have in common?

A) They all played for Man United
B) They all played for Leeds
C) They were all Scottish
D) They were all called Bobby

I'm going to guess "D" on this one, United, as I suspect that Bobby Charlton and Bobby Moore were two of the Footballer's of the Year during that period. Bobby Moore played for the Hammers during that time, so that rules out "A" and "B." And neither were Scottish, so that rules out "C."

How's that for effective use of POE, Mr. Middle School Math Wonk? Do I get a gold star?

You get a GOLD STAR!!!
Well done!!! Very impressive use of POE.
The answer is D.
You are correct in everything you said.
Bobby Moore won it in 1964
Bobby Charlton won it in 1966
What Bobby won it in 1965? Who did he play for?

Bob, did you see that Milan Classics features Leeds United tomorrow(Thursday) at 5 pm.
It is from 11/9/00. I guess Milan win. Do you remember this game?

I called it at the end of the season.
Roy Keane is going to be named manager of Sunderland

Actually Dave, Leeds beat Milan in that match at Elland Road 1-0 from a howler by Dida who dropped a speculative shot from Banjo Boy into the net. Not much of a classic for them, eh?

Keano should straighten out Sunderland but sharpish. I expect the use of the "Hairdryer" will be liberal.

Are you sure it is the Elland Road game.
What about the match at the San Siro?

You're having a laugh. An inexperienced former player with fewer people skills than his effin' dog Triggs is going to pull Sunderland out of trouble? Sheer lunacy.

This is a joke. Keano will bury Sunderland. Bob had to wait 31 years for his revenge against the Black Cats but this is worth waiting for.

I think that Brian Kidd is the key. He is a great #2. A useless #1 but a great coach. It may work. Don't you think Keane could be a young Fergie? Fergie's people skills isn't anything to write home about.

Hey, if I bore grudges against every side that had beaten us in a big match, I'd be a very bitter man.

As for Milan, it could've been the away leg but I think that that was earlier in the fall. We drew that one, if memory serves, after a header from Eirik Bakke evened things up. Almost won it, I seem to remember. Also not a Milan classic, but perhaps they've run out of the good games for them.

I'm waiting for the "Wimbledon Crazy Gang Classics" series.

Fair point about Furg. We'll have to see if Keano can cut the mustard.

You guys must have given up.
The winner of the 1965 FW Footballer of the Year
was Bobby Collins of Leeds United.
I don't recognize the name?
Do any of you?
