Carling Cup, Second Round!
I'll be holding silent vigil over the Carling Cup action Second Round action today, starting at 2:45 EST. I have to admit that I've got a bad feeling about the Leeds tie against Barnet today. In ordinary circumstances, I'd expect us to run rampant over a brand new club currently toiling away in League Division Two. But Leeds is in crisis and I reckon that Barnet can scent blood in the water. The boys could prove me wrong, and I hope I do, but I'll be white-knuckling it until I have to go into class at 4.
As Dave pointed out, the big clubs involved in Europe won't join the Carling Cup until the next round, so I can't imagine that many of you will be bothered with the results today, but if you're around and following them, spare a comment (and a prayer for Leeds!) on the blog, won't you?

Some good ones there beyond the Leeds-Barnet match-up. I'd love to see Accrington Stanley do over Watford.
Leeds are starting without captain Paul Butler and top scorer David Healey. I don't like the sound of that. We've only scored four goals in eight games in the Coke this season, including two dodgy penalties.
It'll also be interesting to see how WBA get on against Cheltenham tonight. They've had an iffy start in the Coke and have just sacked Bryan Robson.
I notice that Charlton are basically starting their first team against lowly Carlisle. They obviously understand that the Carling Cup is their only hope of silverware this season.
Apparently the crowd at Elland Road tonight is "rather sparse." I can only imagine! Barnet are starting the former Blackburn water carrier Paul Warhurst.
Wahay! Five Live seems to be going with the live broadcast. I'm crossing my fingers that it'll continue.
Norwich are already one up at Rotheram.
The live match is Everton at Peterborough. The Toffees have gone without goal talisman Andy Johnson.
I love it - Nicholas Anelka is starting tonight for Bolton at Walsall. I wonder if the dressing rooms at Walsall match up to those he was used to at the Bernabeu? What a fall from grace!
Premiership leaders Pompey are already one up at Mansfield. That'll settle the nerves.
YESSSSS! Robbie Blake has opened the scoring for Leeds against Barnet. Whew, that's got to be a blessing for the Elland Road crowd. Blackwell will be breathing a sigh of relief too.
QPR are one up at Port Vale. So far the Premiership and Coke teams are doing well.
Crikey, Peterborough have just had one cleared off the line against Everton! Didn't Kevin Brynie have a trial with Peterborough once?
Sheffield United have taken the lead against lowly Bury. Shame - I hate the Blades!
Oh dear, Walsall have just hit the post against Bolton. What will Big Sam say about that at half time?
Shame. It looked as if Accrington Stanley had just scored direct from a corner against Watford "Reserves" but the referee's waved it off for a foul on the keeper.
James Beattie has scored a towering header for Everton against Peterborough.
And Rotherham have equalized against Norwich.
Leicester one up at Hereford.
37-year old Paul Warhurst has just nodded the ball off the line for Barnet against Leeds. Shame. Apparently Barnet is his 14th club - talk about a "journeyman!"
Southhampton one up at Millwall.
Peterborough have just had a penalty chance turned down - sounds as if the ref's wearing blue there.
Port Vale are now 2-1 up against QPR. Could easily be a giant killing effort here.
Oh dear oh dear - Darlington have just scored a penalty against Reading. Is Bobby Convey playing?
Pompey are now flying at Mansfield - 2-0.
I've just had a look at Reading's team - no Americans in there. In fact, it looks as if they're rather cynically playing the youth team against Darlington.
Southhampton now 2-0 up.
Another giant killing effort - Crewe one up to Wigan.
And Cheltenham now one up against WBA.
Reading have equalized against Darlington.
Wrexham now one up against Brum.
Incredible scenes at the Madjeski Stadium, where it's now Reading 2 Peterborough 2!
Birmingham have levelled it against Wrexham.
Well, all's well so far for the Leeds. At half-time 1-0. I'd like another couple of safety goals, but beggar's can't be choosers.
I'm off to class. Come on you Whites!
I am here at the college ready to start my afternoon class. I see that Leeds are two up!!!
Well done!!!
Leeds 3 Barnet 1 Whew! I really feel like we dodged a bullet there. On to Round 3! (watch us get Chelski).
Congrats!
What are your thoughts about the Bungs story?
I haven't seen the Panorama episode yet; my mom is supposed to tape it for us, so I'll reserve judgment. But surely there are bigger fish that 'Arry Redknapp out there!
Bob, I called Mom this morning to remind her that it would be something to tape for us both.
Congrats. You sheepshaggers are rather low now so it really doesn't matter about the quality of the oppo. Just checks in the win column. Good, hope it marks a bit of a turnaround.
