Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Here are the matches on the docket today:
Group B
Inter Milan v Sporting
Spartak Moscow v Bayern Munich
Group A
Levski Sofia v Barcelona
Werder Bremen v Chelsea
Group C
Bordeaux v Galatasaray
Liverpool v PSV
Group D
Shakhtar Donetsk v Roma
Valencia v Olympiacos
In an earlier scheduled match, Bayern and Spartak have drawn 2-2 already.
I'll be keeping an especially close eye on the Group A action today, where Barca are in a sticky situation. If Chelsea were to draw Bremen today and Barca were to fail to get a result in Sofia, they'd really be in the shite. In fact, I've been hearing speculation all week that Chelski might well chuck their match in order to put Barca in it.
And along those lines, have a look at the Chelski line-up today - it's a bit odd looking:
Chelsea: Cudicini, Geremi, Boulahrouz, Terry, A, Cole, Makelele, Ballack, Essien, J, Cole, Drogba, Mikel
Notice that Sheva is left on the bench in favor of Mikel, while both Makalele and Essien will bottle up the middle. If they're playing for a win, it certainly doesn't look it from the line-up.
Matches are kicking off across Europe....
The crafty Miroslav Klose looking to gain an early advantage over Cashley.
Barcelona have opened the scoring against Levski Sofia. This will certainly bring a huge sigh of relief from Frank Rijkaard.
Meanwhile Michael Essien is leading the charge for Chelski as he hits long shots looking for a similar opening.
Liverpool have suffered a blow in their match against PSV where it looks as if Xabi Alonso is crocked and will be replaced by the less than effective Boudawijn Zenden.
Well, well, this is a turn up. Some sloppy Chelski defending allows Mertesacker a free header in the six yard box. He buries it to put Werder one up!!
What on earth is going on with John Terry's form these days?
I am here fellas,
Still gutted about yesterday's match.
Chelski are losing at the moment.
Shame ESPN has to show meaningless basketball!!!!!
Hey Davey-boy - I was wondering where you were while your boys were losing yesterday? Starting your Thanksgiving early?
Inter are now 1-0 up against Sporting.
I had a meeting after school and then went straight to the college for my two classes.
Those two goals in Group A now have set the cat amongst the pigeons. If the two results were to stand, Group A would look like this:
Chelski 10 pts
Werder 10 pts
Barca 8 pts
Chelski have Levski at home for their last match, but anything can happen. They really need a draw out of this match.
Hardest working man in education, eh?
I see the table for CL and Celtic and United are tied with nine points. Celtic are labeled ahead of United. We have a better goal difference and we have both beaten each other. Any clue?
Yeah, that's got to be a mistake. The official UEFA site has the same thing with Celtic on top but they also list them with 7 goals for and 6 against, while you lot have 7 goals for and 4 against. Is it possible that their reflecting the "head to head" standing between the two sides, which might be the first tie break factor? After all you tied them at home and lost away, right?
Half time: Chelski still down 1-0 while Liverpool and PSV are boring everyone to death at Anfield.
No, we beat them 3-2 and lost 1-0
Head to head is the first tie breaker but that is tied so then it goes to GD
What are you following the games on?
Yeah, you're right, aren't you? I'm just looking at Football 365 while blogging and writing a paper on the fate of teacher training programs. Exciting, eh?
I am always right!!!!
Very exciting indeed
Second half starting....who do you see going through to the next round from Chelski, Barca and Werder?
Cashley up to his old tricks tries a flop in the box but nothing happening with the ref. Should've got a yellow, from all accounts.
Bordeaux are now 2-0 up against Gala. Don't know what that does for Liverpool - I'll have to check it.
The two big dogs will go through
Will United get the draw they need at home to Benefica?
If we finish second it wouldn't be the end of the world.
Real and Barca look like they will end up runners up as well.
Nothing. Liverpool and PSV are both through
I reckon you'll go through, but it may be in the second slot, leaving you open to a nasty draw for the quarters. There are still some good sides that may end up tops.
Looks like 'Pool are okay - both Bordeaux and Gala only have one point each as of today's matches, while PSV and 'Pool both are on ten. A draw today would be just fine.
Steven Cohen on FFF was commenting that he thought Jose might throw this match to increase pressure on Barca - do you think that's possible?
Who knows with "the special one"
What are your plans for Turkey Day?
Just staying at home.
Kathy's dad comes over.
The Nocito family is having a pool tournament.
Yours?
Nice one. We're heading over for a feast at the house of a couple of friends from the university. Bit of turkey, bit of "discourse." That sort of thing. Should be fun as long as I get some gravy with that Habermas.
Oh, and I'm making my famous sour cream apple pie to take over. It's the mother of all pies!!
Sounds yummy
Liverpool go one up
365 comments: "With Barcelona 2-0 up over Levski Sofia, if results stay as they are then Chelsea will go through, with Barca and Bremen fighting it out for the second spot at the Camp Nou on the last day."
I suppose that's true, since Werder and Barca play each on the last day and Chelski have superior goal difference to Werder right now.
That'll definitely see 'Pool through with thirteen points. Why are they so good in the CL and so crap in the Prem?
Nice - I see that Shaktar Donetsk are one up on Roma. I'm rooting against all the Italian sides this year, even if they aren't involved in the match-fixing scandal. Good riddance.
Sheva has come on for an injured Drogba - you should like that with the match coming up on Sunday.
Well, I guess Chelski have made it but who knows."
We still don't know why Celtic are ahead of United. I just watched some of the match from yesterday and they didn't explain it there. I hope Skysports says something about it. I taped that as well. I will let you know. I know why Celtic are through to the next round but now why they are ahead.
Lovely news
More bad news for the Blues - Terry is booked and will now miss that last group match. This is not going to Jose's masterplan.
I'm going to the 18th birthday party of a former student in about an hour. What do you think - get him stinking drunk?
What is the drinking age?
What is your weather like?
Mike is now in Florida for about 3 weeks
21 - does it matter? What do the Ethics of Classroom Teaching dictate?
I would say no, give him orange juice or soda all night.
Should be nice for Mike later in the week. High sixties/low seventies with a bit of cloud cover here for the next few days.
Strippers? Lap dance? Come on, Dave. I need ideas here!
He is down south
Take him to a PG-13 movie
Should be even nicer further south. Probably mid-seventies. It's unnaturally hot down here, you know that. I barely ever get a chance to drag a jacket or sweater out of storage.
Great comment from 365: "87 mins: The Bremen fans appear to be singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. In English. Bizarre."
Sky just said that Celtic have a better head to head record.
How is that? One win and one loss for both. More away goals?
Btw, don't miss the Rutles and Top of the Pops marathon tonight on VH1 Classic Rock. It's well worth it. The TOTP doc has the lot - Dave Lee Travis, Noel Edmunds, Jim'll Fix It, Tony "Bleedin'" Blackburn, the lot. Plus Noddy Nolder in the Santa suit - you can't beat that. Sadly, no clips of Johnny Hates Jazz. Did they ever have a novelty Christmas hit? Should have.
Could be the away goals rule.
Juice and a PG-13 film, eh? Loads of fun, you are.
They were on the Chirstmas show with "Turn Back the Clock"
I will look for it
Liverpool two up
Crouch with goal
You could give him soda.. grape or orange
Good old Crouchie! Love the lad.
How about root beer?
I guess.. I let Matt drink that so that is a go
And that's the final whistle. Chelski have lost, Bremen are through. Liverpool are through with loads to spare.
I definitely fancy you lot this weekend now, especially if Drogba's out.
Are Chelski through..
I am already nervous about Sunday.
Have a great time at the party.
Be careful
Come on, get started with Matt on the Foster's. That's Australian for beeh, mate! Get it down his neck and he'll wrangling crocodiles in no time!
I'm out of here, mate. I've got to do a few errands before I head over for the non-alcoholic 18th birthday party. Nice chatting with you.
The Beeb says Chels are throuh.
BUGGER
Cheerio
I don't see the TOTP show on the guide.
Where is it?
