Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Holly Jolly Footie Christmas!

I'm blogging early this morning because of a certain relegation six-point dogfight - Leeds vs. Hull City. Yes, this is what Leeds fans have been reduced to. We're both on twenty points with the bottom dwellers Southend on sixteen. Only a win will do.

Here's the Leeds side for today's match:

31. Tony Warner

15. Frazer Richardson

5. Ugo Ehiogu

19. Matt Heath

11. Eddie Lewis

33. Jonathan Howson

21. Shaun Derry

4. Jonathon Douglas

7. Ian Westlake

27. Tresor Kandol

28. Robert Blake

As you can see, Matthew Kilgallon has lost his place to Ugo Ehiogu and David Healey has been dropped after several weeks without scoring. Blake and Westlake are our front pairing with Kandol a speed merchant wide man.

Come on you Whites!

Fairly even in the early going. Both sides realize how important it is not to lose today. They're feeling each other out.

Our old boy Michael Bridges is leading the line for Hull today - I'm sure he'll be wanting to rub salt into our wounds, despite the faith that O'Leary showed in him during all those years he spent on the physio's table.

The Carling Cup draw was made yesterday and of course Chelski got Wycombe while Spurs will play the winner of Arsenal/Liverpool.

Fifteen minutes gone and Hull has had the better chances so far - four shots to our one.

7:31 AM

Hull have been forced into an early substitution - Stephen McPhee has been replaced by Nicky Forster.

Half an hour gone and still 0-0. Not much between the two teams. The pace is furious but not much finesse.

Eddie Lewis has just whistled a free kick past the post. Nearly there.

7:44 AM

Kandol has just had a header tipped over by the Hull keeper - ooooooh!

West Ham vs. Fulham - the early Premiership game this weekend - has kicked off. It's a must win for the Hammers.

Coming up on half time - still 0-0.

Looking at the Premiership for a moment: it would be lovely to see the top two sides drop points today at Villa and Wigan respectively, which would allow Arsenal and Liverpool to close the gap a little. It's beginning to look like only Yernited and Chelski are capable of winning the Premiership with a group of five or six jockeying for those last two Champions League spots. A bit dire.

Second half starting. A win would project us out of the relegation zone for a moment at least while a draw or loss would keep us mired.

Come on you Whites!

The game has settled into the same pattern as the first half with lots of endeavor but little guile. It'll take a moment of madness for either side to win this one. A moment of brilliance is more than your expect at this level.

I am here Gatorbob but you can keep your "it would be lovely to see the top two drop points" to yourself!!!

Chelski are such lucky buggers. They have Wigan twice in the next few weeks and have just drawn Wycombe in the League Cup.

Leeds better score soon

West Ham better win today!!
Watch West Ham beat United but then lose to Fulham.

Talksport says it is very exciting end to end stuff

Hey Dave, I know you want to see a one horse race at the top of the Premiership, but spare a thought for the neutrals who don't.

"In the second half, Leeds have been shocking and Hull haven't been much better"

What is up with Leeds? Can't they get their finger out and play well? They made the playoff final last year. They can't be that bad!!

8:21 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, that's the impression I get too. I don't understand why Wisey hasn't been able to take them at least up into mid table. It's virtually the same squad that they had last year with Robbie Blake and Neil Sullivan added. David Healey can't stop scoring for Norn Ireland, but he hasn't scored in ages for us.

Come on you Whites!

I'm being starved for goals this morning. Just two in the Scottish Premier League for Rangers, and I don't give a toss about them.

8:27 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Leeds are five one up on corners - surely that should be worth a point?

8:28 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Twenty minutes to go...we need a goal!

8:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Ok with me, United had more corners last week. We got a draw then?

8:31 AM

According to the Beeb, Possession at Elland Road
46% Leeds 54% Hull.
I can't believe why they are like this.

Healy doesn't score much because he is on the bench.

8:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

More from the Beeb

Leeds' home ground Elland Road has been sold for the second time in two years for £8m to a mystery investor whose company is based in the Virgin Islands. (Daily Mail)

This is just sad

8:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Healy is on.
Leeds are up to 48% in possession

West Ham and Fulham are 0-0 at the half - exciting stuff, eh?

8:38 AM

According to Talksport, it has been very exciting.
Don't be a typical yank and say there is no scoring

Hull have conceded more fouls - another point for LUFC?

Oooh, just wide by Jonathan Douglas.

Talksport

"Leeds have been the better side in the last few minutes."

QPR and Barnsley meet later on today. Those two would love the score to stay the same.

How can Southend be so low after they beat United and almost got something at White Hart Lane

8:43 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Ten minutes left - I'd like to see Seb Carole on for the last few.

8:43 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Dunno. I think we'd prefer a draw between QPR and Barnsley.

Two of our lot have been booked for "unsporting behavior" now. Come on, ref!

8:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

David Healy IS going to score the winner in the 92nd winnner. I just had a vision

8:48 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

We've had three three keepers interchanged during the season - Neil Sullivan, Tony Warner and Graham Stack. Surely that's a sign that things are not right.

8:52 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Do you think my lot will win today?

I wonder why every year two teams play each other in the league a few games apart during the Christmas period?
United play Villa twice in the league and of course they have drawn them in the cup as well.

Don't get beaten after winning last week.

Hey Trev, glad you enjoyed the SNL clip and the card. Yes, I am the epitome of mild-mannered public servant.

Full time at Elland Road - 0-0. To quote Graham Taylor - "We got a point, we got a point...eeiaddiyo, we got a point!"

Sigh

West Ham are buggers!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of goals in the Premiership in the first half.
The only two that don't have goals are the only ones that I am following. Watching Liverpool/Watford and listening to Villa/United.
Watford just missed a sitter. United have had their chances as well.

Good day for me. I missed these festivities as it's the Missus's b-day.

6-2, nice.

Bob-san, time to let the Cheeky Cockney go, no? The time left to right the ship is quickly disappearing and I think you're also going to have a stretch of top to top middle teams coming up.

Any rumors of loan signings coming in January?
