Arsenal vs. Wigan Live!

Remember the "Big Match" with Brian Moore? Well, these days 11 a.m. on a Sunday on FSC is our equivalent. No more Gerry Harrison commenting on matches from Portman Road. Just live coverage on the LOB. Join me if you can be arsed.

Bolton have already dispatched the Yank squad from Fulham 2-1 this morning to put some pressure on the Arse. They're now level on 47 points.

With Liverpool losing yesterday, it's a chance to tighten the race for third.

I am here. I think the coverage is better than just LOB
I am in my normal position. Next to my computer listening to talksport and watching FSC. How did I ever survive without the internet or FSC????

Wigan are holding their own at the moment

I dunno. I can remember the bad old days of the 80s when the British clubs were out of Europe and there was no coverage of the Premiership. I probably only saw two or three matches a season - maybe a big England match, the FA Cup Final and the European Cup Final, usually down the pub. In the 90s, I started to watch Serie A on Sunday mornings, because Gazza was playing there. Then the 94 WC came and MLS and the world changed over here.

Why didn't Chris Kirkland get a game against Spain? With Robbo having a rocky time, he'd be my alternative.

Looks pretty spry today, doesn't he? Maybe it was a touch of the "Fergie Flu?"

What a miss by TERRY HENRY

11:20 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

What a sitter from Henry; he only needed to pass it into the near post region and it was a certain goal. Great cross from Theo.

Good Beckham interview you posted.

What do you think about his comeback for Real?
Good on him. He has acted very professional and has done everything he should.
Gets a recall and scoring
WELL DONE DAVID

He is the consummate pro. I've never heard him say a negative word about McClaren. Just took it on board and kept moving on with his career. I love the guy, but he is - in the words of Bobby Robson about Gazza - "daft as a brush."

Glad you enjoyed the Ali G spot - Gooner spotted it on YouTube but didn't have the time to post it. My favorite bit is when Ali G asked Becks if he had looked at a picture of Victoria and "knocked one out." Priceless!

Very nearly an o.g. there. Great teasing ball from Rosicky, who's been Arsenal's best player recently.

11:32 AM

Fairly harsh yellow card there for Toure.

I notice that the UEFA Cup is back this week; when does the Champions League start up again - the following week? FA Cup 5th round next weekend, eh? We've got Cardiff away - tough match.

11:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Agreed
Jens looked a little shaky there

11:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Hey, Leeds rugby team is winning!!!!

11:38 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I will let you know what Talksport has to say about the Leeds mole when they talk about it

11:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What a CORKER!!!!!!!

11:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Not good news for John.

Of course, Arsenal are still definitely going to win

11:41 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

What a cracker - Jens couldn't get anywhere near that one!

11:42 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Very, very bad news for Sir Trev. His Hammers are now eight points plus goal difference from safety. It's looking dire.

11:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Reminds me of some of my goals!!!

11:43 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

should have been two

11:45 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Did you score that many long range efforts. I do remember one that you scored that was a kind of looping lob over the keeper. But most were poacher goals, right?

11:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

DON'T JUST PICK ON RONALDO!!!!!
THAT WAS A COMPLETE DIVE BY THE GREAT TH!!!!!!!

11:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Shut it!!
I scored many crackers!!!!!!

I am being serious

11:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I want you to hammer TH please

11:51 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I did not see the incident in question.

Whew, Wigan are all over the Arse here. That really should've been two up for Wigan. And maybe 2-1 there from TH's header. What a match this is!

11:52 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Do you remember the scorcher that I scored at the last practice session that we had senior year? I was so shocked I fell over!

11:52 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

You must be seeing it before me

11:52 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

oops, I didn't have it on live on my DVR.

Are you being serious about TH?

I don't want you to complain about Ronaldo until you get on TH

It doesn't make it right for Ronaldo but others have to be hammered, including TH

11:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Surprisingly, I do remember it.

I scored two scorchers in sophmore year and senior year against the same Div 1 team in college

11:55 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

If you truly didn't see it, watch it during half time

11:57 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I want a Wallbanger of Tony Currie circa 1977 before he got porky and buggered off to QPR.

11:57 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

His hair would take up the entire wall!!!

11:59 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Don't skip out on abusing TH.
He deserves it. You would have about 15 comments on Ronaldo

11:59 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

jens made the save against Heskey's one on one

12:09 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Did I just hear Max Bretos say that Heskey had "tossed dirt on the Arsenal grave?"

They're in third! And still in the Carling and FA Cup and the bloody Champions League - how is that in the grave?

What a tosspot!

12:12 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Talking about tosspot, you're ignoring me

12:12 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

As to TH-14: Of course he was guilty there and has been guilty before. I vividly remember his dive in the WC semi final - there was nothing in it! The sad fact is that continental players are all trained to do it.

But Skippy does it more consistently than even other continentals who practice the art. About a week ago there was a story that "Big Phil" Scolari had encouraged Skippy to move to Real where he could develop his skill without the abuse of the fans. That's what he was talking about. English fans don't tolerate diving whereas continental fans not only tolerate it but encourage it and expect it from their players.

12:15 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

There is no reason that TH shouldn't be hammered on 606 just like Ronaldo does.
He won't because he is TH not CR

Another chance from Heskey

12:17 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Arse are still going to win this!!!

12:18 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That's right - he's built a reputation of being a skillful and reasonably honest continental player who has fit in well in the Premiership.

Whereas, Skippy has developed a reputation for being skillful but a cheat. And remember that he single-handedly dismantled England World Cup dreams this summer - you can't pin that on TH.

They're not the same.

12:19 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'm not so sure. Wigan look a bit more resilent than other sides the Arse has come back to win against recently, including you lot.

12:20 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Agreed, but he does have to be held accountable.
He was the one calling people who dive as women after the CL Final

And another dive from the ARSE

12:22 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And there was another dive from Clichy. There's no way he would have gone to ground like that in the middle of the park. Should've been booked.

12:22 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

where was the red shirts attacking the cross by Rosicky

12:23 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Well, that's silly and homophobic. He should be above that. It doesn't have anything to do with toughness or lack thereof. It's about honestly. The English game has traditionally been about honest graft and that's why we love it. Have you ever watched the Brazilian league - those guys are falling over every five seconds. It's a complete bore.

The only way to solve the problem is internally. Managers and senior pros need to clip little twats like Skippy around the ear and tell that they'll be dropped if they pull that crap again. Problem solved.

12:24 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

sit down Arsene

12:24 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

After the fact punishment would help too

12:26 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That wasn't far off from Wigan

12:26 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Rubbish defending from the Arse again. They really need to buy a central defender.

12:27 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I don't know. Think about our own field. What kind of criticism do you take more seriously - from an administrator or from a peer?

12:28 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Again, agreed but being banned for a game or two would stop it quickly

12:30 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

As usual the Arse are playing some lovely stuff but it's always a touch too much. There Rosicky tried a delicate header into TH's path where he should have chested it down to himself and thumped a shot on goal.

12:30 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Changes coming for the Arse

12:33 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

They really miss the presence of Van Persie on the bench in these situations. Aliadiere isn't the same quality.

12:34 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

serves him right to score against my lot.
If he didn't score, he would have been fit to finish the season.

12:35 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Robbie Earle should be on Mastermind - specialized subject: "The Bleedin' Obvious!"

12:37 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Are you going to watch The Police reunion on the Grammy Awards tonight. It is the only reason I may tune in

12:37 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Earth to Theo - "Hit it!"

12:38 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Off side, what a shame, JUST

12:38 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh definitely - I'm all over it. I might even pay a few knicker to see a reunion show if they decide to tour this summer.

12:38 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Not going to be Arsenal's day today.

12:39 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

me too

12:39 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

There are quite a few 70s and 80s groups that I'd love to see back together. Squeeze and the Jam come to mind.

12:44 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Fifteen minutes for Arsenal to rescue this one.

12:44 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Wigan needs to still go forward

12:44 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

No way that was a penalty. What's with all the floppiness today. Honestly, someone Heskey's size shouldn't go to ground unless he's tripped by an elephant.

12:45 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Now that could have been a pen. He did pull him back. They make it worse when they go down like Swan Lake

12:46 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Eighty minutes in and you haven't been blocked yet. I do think this new Blogger version is a tiny bit better than the old. You used to get bounced around the fifty minute mark. Either that or the ManYoo hoodoo is wearing off.

12:47 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Don't you dare complain, you didn't say anything for TH, who are you? Your brother?

The Arse score their first of a 2-1 lead

12:47 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Off side!!!

12:47 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Goal! And of course it's TH who rescues them. No wait a minute - it's an o.g. Great cross from Flamini.

12:47 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Who was offside - Flamini? Not sure about that.

12:48 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bit of afters from TH there. That's unnecessary. Of course Kirkland's going to waste a few seconds but it doesn't matter in the end. You're right - the Arse could still win this one.

12:48 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What is TH doing? He can't follow the keeper. He should be carded.
The radio is saying it was a pen and the goal was offside

12:49 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And there it is - Rosicky! Wigan let them back in there. It was a bit inevitable once that started backing off.

12:50 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Who's Wigan's left back. They've completely cut him to pieces. Everything's been going down that flank.

12:51 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'll have to look at the first goal again. But the Heskey flop was no penalty. There was a little contact but not nearly enough to bring down a big lump like Heskey. He made a meal of it and didn't deserve to be rewarded for it. Fair's fair - if you're going to call out TH, then you have to call out big Emile too.
