Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Soccer Saturday

Another Saturday, another opportunity for Leeds to save themselves. Unfortunately even a win keeps us rooted on the bottom of the Coke given Southend's spectacular win last night. Still, we need to keep focused on that fourth from bottom spot, which is five (or six) points away. We need a win today at the Elland against Palace. Join me for the action, lads.

Reading have just scored their second.
Another Reading win. Coppell for England...or United!!

Blogger gatorbob said...

I could see Steve Coppell as a future England manager....before Psycho for sure. He at least knows how to get a team playing good football.

Hey, if West Ham beat Watford today, they'll be just fine.

No Ronaldo today, hope he is on the bench in case we need him

Good shot by Park

10:11 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I think that we can assume that Derby will knock off Hull today. So, with Luton not playing, Leeds could pick up some territory with a result today.

Newcastle 0 Liverpool 1
Bellamy scores against his old club

Blogger United We Stand said...

Charlton are doing well.
Pardew has got Charlton doing well.
The Hammers were too quick to dump him

10:16 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Coventry are leading Cardiff. They've really dropped off lately, which I'm happy about. I didn't want to see bloody Peter Ridsdale back up in the Prem. again.

10:16 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Oh my GOD, West Ham are losing

10:16 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Barnsley are two down, now come on Leeds

10:18 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, sorry Trev. The Happy Hammers are on a sticky wicket now. Come on!

10:20 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I agree with you about Pardew. Unfortunately he was nobbled by the Argie deal which lost him the dressing room.

10:21 AM

WBA 0 Sotton 1

10:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

No Ronaldo on the bench. Larsson is there though

10:23 AM

Ferdinand on the RIGHT WING

10:23 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

You're missing Skippy here. No dodgy penalties today, I reckon.

10:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Viduka should have scored with a header from six yards at Stamford Bridge

10:27 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Zenden's made it two nil for Pool at St. James's Park. They're flying!

10:27 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

YES!!!!!!
Park!!!!

10:29 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Totally jammy goal. Deflected cross, bobbles up awkwardly. Park is first to the ball.

10:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Blades have tied it up

10:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

United look shaky today, but let's get a third 4-0 victory in a row!!

10:31 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bugger - this isn't looking good for the Hammers.

10:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't know where you got the Liverpool score.
It is 1-1

10:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Derby are one up and SO ARE LEEDS!!!
Heath with the goal

10:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Tractor Boys are losing to Leicester

10:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Come on Boro

10:33 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Correction on the Liverpool score. Zenden should've but didn't score. And now Martins has equalized for them.

10:34 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Glory, glory Leeds United! We're one up and Derby have stuck in a goal against Luton. Things are looking brighter!

10:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Do you bother reading my postings!!!!
I announce that and you didn't reply.
YOU PLONKER

10:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Hull have tied it up with Derby

10:37 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Sorry, mate. I missed it while I was looking elsewhere.

10:37 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bugger! Still, a pretty good matchday so far. We're two (or three) points from safety.

10:38 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Our goal was a classic header from a corner scored by one of the guys we picked up in the transfer window - Matt Heath. It's his debut for us.

10:39 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Long may it continue

10:39 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Cursed?

1532: Lucas Neill is hobbling off. The Aussie defender has only just come back after he was injured on his debut and now he seems to have an ankle injury. He is fuming - as is manager Alan Curbishley.

10:41 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, they seem to be, unfortunately. I didn't realize he was playing today.

10:43 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great play by Roon, so unlucky

10:43 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nearly a brilliant goal from Roon. He is a daft Scouser but what a player!

10:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Come on United, GET THE CLINCHER

10:45 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Someone named Casper Ankergren is in goal for us today. He's the fifth keeper we've used this season - tells a story, doesn't it?

10:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

1538: Crazy scenes at Upton Park. Bobby Zamora steals the ball as Watford keeper Ben Foster is bouncing it. Foster recovers to snatch it back - but the linesman is flagging for a foul anyway. If that had gone in and been disallowed, West Ham would have rightly felt hard done by.

10:47 AM

Rio gets hit in the old Ghoulies

10:48 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Get up Rio!

10:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Cambridge are one up.
They need that win to get out of the relegation zone

10:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

West Brom tie it up

10:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Cardif tie it up

10:49 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Saha - what a waster!

10:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

agreed.
BUGGER CHELSEA JUST SCORED

10:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Derby are back on top of Hull

10:52 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, Drogba with his umpteenth goal of the season. Without him and Essien, they'd be mid-table.

10:52 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Lovely jubbly. Now Barnsley are again in that coveted fourth bottom slot.

10:53 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Half time whistles going around the country - it's looking good so far.

10:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sounds like terrible defending by Boro.
Boro have blown a good start

10:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

According to my figuring, as it looks like now
19 QPR 32
20 Luton 32
21 Barnsley 32
22 Hull 31
23 Southen 31
24 Leeds 30

One more win next week and you could move up to 20th

10:57 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

1605: Carlos Tevez is on for West Ham, replacing Bobby Zamora. The Hammers fans are pleased.

11:11 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Come on United, stop sleepwalking

11:12 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That's right - it's really packed now at the bottom. But we need the win or else we'll lose touch with that pack.

11:13 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Actually QPR are on 33 points, but otherwise you're correct. Basically six teams in the relegation battle. I reckon that Norwich and Leicester on 37 are well out of it.

11:14 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Righto sir

11:15 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Sad to say, but can you honestly see West Ham picking up 20 points in what's left of the season? I can't.

11:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't think that they will need that many. I know that it is the 40pt mark but I don't see that much is needed

11:17 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

What's your guess on the minimum points needed? Wigan have 25 and superior goal difference now.

11:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I will take a stab at it.
How about 38.
Yours?

Tevez has made West Ham play much better

11:19 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'll stick with 40 minimum. I'd love to see the Blades go down, but they seem to have the ability to scrap for it.

Charlton, btw, are not out of this game by half. Come on you Addicks!

11:21 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Grimsby, in the relegation zone in League 2, win 6-0 away from home last week. This week, fall two down inside twenty minutes. Are now winning 3-2

11:21 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Leicester now two nil up on the Tractor Boyz.

11:22 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Giggsy coming off for Larsson - good move?

11:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Larsson is going to come on for Giggs.

11:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think we need someone to spark us.
I am not sure about Giggs.
West Ham have a pen. So do Shef Utd

11:23 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Shef score.
WEST HAM DON'T!!!!!!!!

11:24 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

On talksport, they ask Alvin Martin about the pen.
He said, "don't make me comment"

11:25 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am nervous here. WE NEED ANOTHER GOAL

11:25 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh dear, it gets worse. Enjoy Tampa, Sir Trev and check in with us if you get up to N. Florida.

11:26 AM

11:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Talksport has said they think it will 35 or 36 for safety

11:28 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Really?! I don't think it's ever been that low. West Ham got relegated a couple of seasons back with 42 or 43 points. Does that mean that the Premiership is getting crapper?

11:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Useless by Saha

11:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bugger, Chelski just scored

11:31 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, deflected shot from Arjen Robben. That must be game over at Stamford Bridge.

11:31 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nice studs on the shin from Saha.

11:31 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Roughly twenty minutes left - hang on you Whites!

11:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

and REDS

11:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Toon have a pen

11:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

and score

11:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sunderland score, could Keene take them up?

11:35 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

LEEDS ARE TWO UP

11:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bloody HELL, that was close

11:39 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yess! Robbie Blake with Leeds's second.

11:41 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Saha is stinking up the joint

11:42 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes, I agree. He should've gone off for Larrsson instead of Giggs who was ripping it up. He is an old man, though.

11:43 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Richardson on for the disappointing Saha.

11:43 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I hope Henrik stays after March

11:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good old Rooney makes it

11:45 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That should wrap it up. Good stuff from Larrsson. Persistence from Roon. Bit scrappy goal. It's an ugly win today - the mark of champions.

11:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What a cool cross

11:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Let's get two more for an "ugly" 4-0 win

Chelski are three up

11:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Uh oh, Palace have scored.
Knobbly Knee time

11:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Are you going to watch the late match.
Are there going to be any goals?
Neither team has scored for FOUR HOURS!!!

11:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Did you know Ray Parlour is playing for Hull?
They just scored an equalizer with two minutes to go at Pride Park.
Not good news

11:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

A ho-hum victory for United.
Still six points(really seven) clear.
11 games to go.
Win nine of them, and it is ours

11:56 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Shef Utd beat Spurs

11:57 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes! We hung on for a really important win. Hull may have tied it up at the death, but it was still a really good day for us. Congrats to ManYoo too.

I'm off to do some interview transcription work. Will check in with you later. Good chatting with you mate.

12:01 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Rumors are flying around on the "To Ell and Back" discussion boards tonight about the identity of the Judas that shopped the team sheet for today's game to Palace officials before the match. Most have settled on Shaun Derry, our center mid, who used to play at Palace. Apparently whoever it is will be sacked forthwith. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

Also Palace should be brought up on charges by the FA. Southern scum.

11:43 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I like the name of that website.

I noticed that it is To ELLAND Back. Very clever use of the word Elland. I wonder if they got the idea from the famous Only Fools and Horses Christmas special "To Hull and Back"
