Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Come on You Hammers!

Well, the season's officially over for my Leeds boys, but that doesn't mean that there is football of interest this weekend. I'm settling in to follow the crucial West Ham vs. Bolton match.

And of course Dave will be watching the top of the table clash between Chelsea and Arsenal tomorrow.

Dave will be a happy boy today as United squeaked through the Manchester derby 0-1 thanks to (what else?) a penalty from Skippy.

Good morning.
I am a very happy chappy.

Please don't say anything about Ronaldo today. In the very first minute, Michael Ball stamped right on his stomach. Everyone that saw it on the TV thought he should have been sent off. The United penalty was just a simple trip. Even the Newcastle fan that I was watching it with thought it was a penalty. As for Citeh's penalty, it was the exact opposite. It was never penalty and it was a hopeless taken penalty as well. Citeh have not scored at home since New Year's Day and have missed a penalty in each of their last home games.
Again, United didn't play well but it was absolutely deserved.
Anyway, COME ON YOU AMMERS!!!

Bolton seem to have come into Upton Park with some intent. They're fifth and are looking to shore up their UEFA Cup place. Surely Champions League is out of their reach.

The bottom of the Premiership looks like this right now:

Sheff Utd 38
Fulham 37
Wigan 36
West Ham 36
Charlton 33
Watford 25

Almost a catastrophe there for Rob Green in the West Ham goal. Very fortunate to get away with that.

10:11 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Anelka was almost in there

Bristol City are one up. They will be taken Leeds place if it keeps up

Morning, Dave! Happy with that United win?

10:14 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Now Bolton have a free kick chance.
Hits the wall

West Ham are out of the drop zone for the first time in ages, leapfrogging over Wigan and Fulham to 38 pts.

Benni McCarthy. I'd love to see wee Mikey get a goal for Newcastle today. Great to see him back.

10:17 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

As we speak, West Ham are in SIXTEENTH!!

10:18 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bolton have dropped to seventh in Sammy Lee's first game in charge. Big Sam's exit is looking more and more like a boneheaded move. Why couldn't he wait a couple of games to leave?

10:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

It smells very fishy

10:20 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes, I agree with you now. Fulham are in real trouble now. Liverpool have them completely under the cosh right now.

10:20 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Will there be any controversy over Ronaldo's penalty today - or was it the exception - a real penalty?

10:21 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Wigan have hit the bar against Boro.

10:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

No, it was a definite trip. Citeh's was NOT a penalty.

One more thing... SHUT IT!!!

10:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

TEVEZ SCORES AGAIN!!!

10:24 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

GOAL! Another for Tevez! He's flying. Great counterattack there.

10:25 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Did you watch the Manchester Derby?

10:25 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Yes, I was at my friend's house. He hast Setanta. He comes from Newcastle and is a Magpie fan. Another English buddy, a United fan, was there too.
I was there for last week's game and the other Mancs derby in December.
We just show up for the game and then leave.
I love having friends that care about the stuff I do.

10:28 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

X-rated challenge there for Thompson - yellow card deserved.

10:28 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

You're really lucky to have those lads up there. I'm hoping to have a circle of footie friends the next place I go. The only guy I know here is a Milan fan - he doesn't give a toss about the Premiership. Might have him round for the Champions League final though.

10:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Well, you should come up to Upstate NY

10:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What a goal!!!!!

10:32 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'd love to if they had a tenure track job for the two of us nearby.

GOAL! My oh my, that was a cracker from Noble.

10:32 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Where is this form from West Ham coming from - they look like world-beaters. Are you worried about that last game of the season now?

10:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Make it happen

10:33 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And Mark Viduka has put Boro up against Wigan. Great result for the Hammers.

10:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Viduka scores against Wigan

10:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Almost another one for Tevez

10:35 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nearly the hat-trick there for Tevez. If only he could have scored a few of these earlier in the season.

10:35 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Michael Brown of Fulham just headbutts Alonso. Wasn't seen

10:36 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

A rousing chorus of "Blowing Bubbles" there. Notice how much louder the crowd noise is on the FSC broadcast feed from Britain? Much louder than the ESPN2 Champions League stuff with the two goobers in the studio in NJ.

10:37 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Will you be watching the Houston Dynamo vs. Colorado Rapids match tonight on FSC?.....didn't think so.

10:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Absolutely!! The sound makes all the difference.

Wrexham have just fallen behind Boston at home. They would be out of the league instead of Boston

10:41 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

No way will I be watching it.
I can't get into MLS yet. I know it is bad but...

10:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bristol City have scored again.
They are going up

10:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

If Wigan lose, then West Ham would be virtually safe. They would be three points behind West Ham and -4 in goals.
As long as United don't go goal crazy, it would be over

10:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

HT at Upton Park

Where are you SIR TREV!!!

10:51 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Half-time: I agree, Dave. If Wigan or Fulham lose today, you'd have to think that the Hammers are safe. I expect that the championship race will be over at least by Wednesday, so that you lot won't have anything to play for next weekend. You'd could easily give the Hammers a point, eh?

10:52 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I hope that the Championship is over by tomorrow.
Chelski don't win... United's NINTH Championship in 14

11:04 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The summary from 365: "Here's the picture at half-time: In the Premiership, West Ham have climbed out of the relegation zone, leapfrogging both Wigan (now in the drop zone) and Fulham. If the scores stay the same, the Hammers will have 38pts, Fulham 37pts and Wigan 35pts. As for the battle for Europe, Everton and Reading have both edged above Bolton (down from fifth to seventh) on goal difference."

11:08 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

File this under the "Life could be worse" category: Wrexham are losing 0-1 to Boston United at home and look certain to drop into the Conference today. Yikes!

11:10 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I did mention that already bud

11:11 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Useless free kick there for Gary Speed.

11:12 AM

Sorry, I must have missed it.

11:12 AM

Must be a red card there.

I guess Coppell really doesn't want Europe.

The entire defence rush out for a free kick but Shittu times a run perfectly and is all alone

Itchy bum time for the Hammers

Everton get a second... get your passports ready

11:28 AM

That was appalling defending there. Hopefully they won't be able to get two more.

11:28 AM

West Ham better be careful. Goal Difference could come into it.

Michael Owen has shot cleared off the line

I was just thinking, knowing Warnock, if Sheff Utd are safe before next weekend would he throw the game to stick it to West Ham?

11:46 AM

Wrexham have scored a goal in the 87th minute.
Bye bye Boston

Where have you gone Dahlgren?

11:53 AM

West Ham could really have Liverpool get a goal.

Fulham are down to ten

West Ham have done it.

Still in danger

Blogger gatorbob said...

Magic win for you lot, Trev. I think you can get a point next weekend against United after they secure the championship win before Saturday.

And who knows? You may not need it. Wigan will need a win just to stay in the picture.

12:08 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What about my point?

Could Shef Utd. tank it next week to stick it to WH?

12:13 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I guess you guys have left.

I won't be around for the big one tomorrow. I have my first outdoor game tommorrow morning.

COME ON YOU ARSENAL!!!

12:26 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Sorry I had to bugger off, Dave. To your point about the Blades. They're 3-0 down now to Villa. That means that they have something to play for next weekend. And the bottom line is that West Ham only need a point and you lot shouldn't need anything. West Ham fans are certainly sleeping easier tonight.

1:57 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This loss makes The Blades need to get something from next week.
West Ham would already be safe if they hadn't given that last second goal to Spurs

Howdy, I am in London for business and inquired for a Fulham Liverpool Ticket. The game was sold out, but there was one cancelation and I was able to attend. Interesting, the ticket was in the first row - just behind the Liverpool net. I watched the game about 10 feet from Jose Reina.

5:56 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Wow, I am really jealous

Hey AZ - great to hear from you. Pretty important victory for Fulham today - the crowd must've been buzzing. A you got to see a Clint Dempsey goal - boy, the Revvies are sure missing the lad.
