Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Republican Presidential Debate

After last week's first debate, it's the GOP's turn tonight. It'll be the first chance to see ten of these ghouls facing off. Who wants to bomb Iran? Who wants to strip us of all Constitutional rights? Who's been diddling the interns in the back room? We'll soon see. It's live on MSNBC with "Hardball's" Chris Matthews moderating. Join me for the festivities.

And here's the rubric that I'll be judging them by:

* Withdrawal from Iraq (5 pts)
* Opposition to attacking Iran (5 pts)
* Opposition to NCLB. (5 pts)
* Open borders (2 pts)
* Pro choice (2 pts)
* Secularism (2 pts)
* Anti War on Terror (2 pts)
* Universal Health Care (2 pts)
* Pro-Palestinian (2 pts)
* Progressive taxation (2 pts)
* Pro gay marriage (2 pts)
* Alternative energy (2 pts)
* Internationalism (2 pts)
* Anti-corruption (2 pts)
* Pro gun control (2 pts)

And of course I'll be assigning (probably lots of) negative points for statements opposite of those.

I'd love to see your rubrics.

I should also mention that I'm taping the titanic MLS struggle between my Revvies and Gooner's D.C. United goblin horde for some late night watching, so no loose whispering about the score, eh? Ta very much.

Oh my, there are only few positive points to be gained against those metrics, Gator B. I'm going to kick my daughter off of Gilmore Girls and put the debate on for a bit. But I'll be dislodged later by the missus wanting to watch Survivor.

Dare I say it given whose occupying 1600 PA AVE, but Rudy G lacks the gravitas and experience to be President. He's a dead boring public speaker as well.

Here he is now. One of the first of many remarks toward Ronnie Raygun.

Uh oh, he's losing points already. "Socialized medicine!?"

Brownback - losing points big time on the "War on Terror," Iran, Iraq. Using the "Islamofascist" line. Yikes!

Huckabee - on Rumsfeld. A bit of a swipe at Bush there. Another swipe at Bush on Iraq and troop levels. But in the end, "stay....the....course."

Gilmore -

Uh oh, he's having a go in the "entire Middle East." Run for the hills! Not sure exactly what he's saying here.

Ron Paul - "The Libertarian."

The only one likely to speak out on Iraq tonight.

Chris Matthews is asking McCain about the "trip wire" for Iran. Don't egg him on, Chris. Jesus!

Tancredo on Iran. "Anything we can do to stop that...!" Yikes! And pro-Israel to boot. Minus 4 pts.

8:18 PM

Rudy hedging his bets on Iran here. But in the end, he's in favor of military strikes against Iran.

Also lying about Reagan and the hostages. Ever heard of "October Surprise" Rudy?

Blogger gatorbob said...

Gilmore - "We have to do anything to get this guy" (Ahmednijad). Yikes!

Romney - boogah, boogah, boogah.

Well, I suppose the only positive thing to say about this bunch is that there isn't one of them that's as ignorant and irritating as Bush.
