Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

MLS Kids to Europe: Drop Dead

ESPN's Soccernet website reported today that both Eddie Johnson and Freddy Adu have turned down deals with European clubs - with Derby County and Benfica respectively. I think it's a real shame when our best and brightest choose to stay here in their comfort zone of MLS. Both have suggested that the money isn't right but I suspect that they're taking a leaf out of the Landycakes book. Shame. The game in this country will only get better if our players are playing at the top of their games.

What do you lot reckon?

I agree Bob. I don't know why Johnson would turn down Derby except for the possibility that he's got a better offer somewhere else in the Prem that's not been disclosed.

I still think that the French league with it's emphasis on technique and generally smaller players would be the best fit for Freddy. But Benfica would seem to be a great place for him to dip his toes in European waters.

It's very disappointing to see these two guys that make up some of the best looking new-guard players turn down that opportunity.

Just finished reading that Freddie has rethought this and today may be announced as Benfica's new 2million pound man. He's in Portugal allegedly.

Deal done. Fredinho is a Benfica player. Good luck to him.
