Champions League - Gameday 4!
After that stirring 8-0 Liverpool win yesterday, the smile is back on British faces in Europe. And today we've got the strong side of the draw with games featuring ManYoo, the 'Gers, and the Arse - all of whom seem to be destined to get out of the group stage of the Champions League this year.
ESPN2 will be showing the United game - join me for it, eh?

Sporting v Roma
All matches at 19.45
And they've kicked off at Old Trafford. Where are you, Davey?
Decent sight of goal for Kiev there, but the long range effort is dragged wide. They won't get a lot of chances like that tonight.
First corner for United. Nani to play it in and it goes straight through. Having Nani in the side means that Ronaldo can play a more central striking role.
Van der Sar gathers at the near post. Decent start for Kiev. They're exposing the youngster Simpson who's making his United debut.
Nani with a poor effort from the second corner of the night and it's cleared out and Kiev are happy again to knock it about.
Could be a long night for the Scots. TH-14 has stuck in an early goal for Barca.
Lyon have also taken an early lead against Stuttgart.
Cassetti has scored for Milan away to Sporting Lisbon
Nice stuff from Carlito, flicking the ball over a defender's head but then his cross didn't pick anyone out.
Skippy is tripped up on the edge of the box but nothing's given.
The Kiev defense is eating up all of the high balls into the area, despite protests from Rooney and Tevez
Two quick goals have flown in between Lyon and Stuttgart and it's 2-1.
Wayne Rooney goes into the ref's book after a bit of his usual delightful Scouse banter with the man in black.
Skippy wins a third corner for United and the resulting corner is played long to Roon, whose header is fisted away by the keeper. He's scored in eight consecutive matches - can he keep up the string?
I am home
Inter are losing a home
Tommy Smyth comments that the atmosphere at Old Trafford has the feel of "the prawn sandwiches" tonight. A bit quieter than usual.
Roma have been pegged back
Hey Dave! Yeah, I just saw that. And Sporting have tied it up against AC Milan. Not a good few minutes for the Milanese.
Sorry, Roma it is.
Also Sevilla have taken the lead against Steau Bucharest.
Roma not Milan
GOAL! And it's Pique - his first goal for United in the CL. Maybe his first goal for United period?
Bit of a jammy bounce off Tevez's bonce there, eh?
YES
Pique with the goal.
Carrick with a great header saved by Tevez. Was Tevez offside?
Inter are two down
Inter have a goal back
I don't think Tevez was offside. You? United now in marauding form. They were quiet at first but now are clicking into a higher gear.
How was school?
Two quick goals for Fenerbache - both in the 30th minute - against PSV.
Vidic should have scored that one.
As for Tevez, no one esle said anything but off of Carrick's header I think he may have been offside. I will rewind my DVR and check .
Inter have tied it up
So it's just the Arse game with Slavia that's still goalless.
WOW! That was quick from Inter. Ibrahimovic and Cambiasso with the goals.
BTW, school was fine. I have had no real problems all year. FINGERS CROSSED
YES... TEVEZ AND ROONENY DOUBLE ACT
GOAL! It's party time at Old Trafford now with Tevez playing a one-two with Roon and smashing it home. Great goal.
Can we get more than Costa Del Pool?
Are you rethinking Carlos Tevez at this point? I remember in the summer you really didn't want him.
I absolutely am. They are working wonderfully together.
It's 3-1 now for Lyon over Stuttgart.
We's were lucky there!!!
Bit of bother there in the United defense. Not sure about this new kid Simpson. Not ready for prime time yet.
What do you think of Tevez and Rooney
Love it. Ronaldo making a big bollock of himself with the stepovers.
Rangers are two down
They're really starting to click.
Leave my Ronny alone
Go on, you have to laugh at the Portugeezer.
Messi with the second goal for Barca. Not a bad side there, eh?
Very satisfying half.
We won't have to worry about Sporting or the trip to Roma. Play the Carling Cup team... they don't have any matches.
Half-time: Surprisingly, Kiev haven't been that bad, knocking it about neatly and creating one or two chances. But they've been completely outclassed. I don't think it'll be 8-0 but you could notch a few more.
Just looked at United's first goal. When the kick came in, everyone was onside. When Carrick glanced the header that would probably gone in, Tevez was well offside. It went off his head and went to Pique.
I think it shouldn't have counted.
Derek Rae - "United move inexorably toward a berth in the second round."
Someone's been dipping into the thesaurus, eh?
That's very honest of you, Dave. But you'll take it, eh?
Kuszczak coming on to replace VDS.
Nice save from Kuszczak.
He is a good keeper.
Yes I will take it but it still isn't right.
I was in the loo, did they give a reason for VDS?
Good skill there from Roon.
Kiev run it back up field and Rincon warms Kuszczak's hands.
Just giving him a rest. You've got Blackburn away at the weekend. You'll need all the strength you've got for that one. Blackburn are decent this season.
From the Beeb
2048: Second half here we go. Just the 17 goals so far. The best return from a midweek match day so far has been 24. That is there for the taking
Blackburn is at Old Trafford this weekend.
Ron is at it again.
They will take his legs off soon
Sorry, still a tough one though.
I've had enough of Skippy. Someone give him a right kicking.
Roon has had some great touches
He always does well against United.
It is a worrying fixtures especially when Arsenal have Reading away and Chelski have Everton at home.
Lyon have brought it back to 3-2 in Lyon. A draw would do Rangers
We get the United match on Sunday on FSC.
Tevez should have buried that.
Great work from Rooney again
Tevez just took too many touches there, but a nice move.
Kiev should've scored there.
Do we? The 11 o'clock game is Pompey Citeh. United kick off at 10
My Cable box just went on the fritz. He is rebooting.
Just looked it up. They start at 7 and it is on FSC
Thanks for the info.
The FSC schedule has United vs. Blackburn at 10 and the Pompey vs. Citeh? at 12. Maybe they're showing the latter on taped delay.
It's also a weird schedule on Saturday. We don't get a 10 a.m. game but Liverpool are up at 12. The preview show is on at 11:30. I hope that means that they're going to be showing the Soccer Saturday lads.
All of that pales in significance to the titanic struggle between Leeds and Hereford on Friday, though.
Nice stuff from Evra there and Tevez should have a hat-trick tonight. But he's buggering off to be replaced by Saha. Remember him?
My mistake. The schedule I was looking at is West Coast. They are showing the United game at 10 and the Pompey game at noon.
On Saturday, it just says preview show and Match day live.
I have my cable back
Right, the last time that happened on Saturday, they showed the Soccer Saturday lads. Hope it's a repeat this weekend. Maybe I should email them.
Nice save by Tomas.
COME ON UNITED, GET YOUR FINGER OUT
Seville are now 2-0 up against Bucharest.
Really. It could easily be 2-2.
Cambiasso has put Inter ahead 3-2.
Roma are now losing to Porto
Pique coming off for Johnny Evans, who looks about twelve.
More aggro from Roon. He's already on a card from the first half.
Settle down Roon.
Did he get booked already?
Take him off, or let him get the booking out of the way and miss the next two matches. Play him against Sporting to get booked???
What's with the "Distance Covered" statistic?
Yeah, he clogged a guy from behind and then gave the ref a bit of Scouse backchat.
GOAL! Well, that's why he's still on. Roon knocks in the third.
Great goal by Roon. Glad he got a goal.
I agree with the stat. AMERICAN!!!
Inter are now 4-2 up.
Should have been five.
Nani with two chances.
Rooney is passing the ball so well
The Arse still not getting it done in Moscow.
A draw is enough but... you beat these lot SEVEN NIL
Sporting are leading now. Does that mean you have to wait until next gameday to qualify?
I heard that Fabregas, Adebayor and a couple of others didn't even make the flight to Prague. They're resting a lot and saving them for the weekend.
Inter are 4-2 up. I missed their third
No, I think we are set. We would be six points up on both Sporting and Roma with two to play. I guess they could win both and United lose but I don't think it will happen
Here's the Arsenal side for today:
* Manuel Almunia
* William Gallas
* Gael Clichy
* Lassana Diarra
* Denilson
* Abou Diaby
* Alexandre Song
* Gilberto
* Theo Walcott
* Eduardo
* Nicklas Bendtner
As I said
From the BEEB
111: GOAL Sporting 2-1 Roma
And Sporting have come from behind as well with a second from Liedson. That means Manchester United are not mathematically assured of going through tonight... although it would have to be the mother and father of cock-ups over the coming month to deny Sir Alex Ferguson and his squad a place in the next stage.
GOAL! Great stuff from Skippy. 4-0.
Great goal from Ronaldo!!!
I am glad that all the big guns get on the score sheet.
A little early for this talk
From the BEEB
"I desperately hope that Manchester United and Arsenal do not get paired together until the final. That would be a stunning finale to an already absolute legendary season."
jpalongo on 606
Steady on old chap. There's still a long way to go yet.
Full-time: 4-0 - a comprehensive thumping.
Game over.
Very satisfying.
I will be here on Friday.
Hope to have some company.
Cheers.
I agree with you. There are a lot of great sides in this tournament.
I'll be there! Good chatting with you, mate.
Roma just tied it up.
UNITED ARE THROUGH
As always, thanks for the running commentary lads . . . I want to be a teacher . . .
Come over to the darkside, Sir Trev. The water's fine!
