Democratic Presidential Debate #452
The Democrats are up again, debating at Drexel University in Philadelphia on MSNBC at 9 pm. Hillary Clinton seems to be the shoe-in for the nomination at this point and the question is who can stop her? Obama? Edwards? Dodd?
One thing's for sure, whoever wins the next election, Elizabeth Kucinich should be the First Lady. Agreed?

Brian Williams has given Obama the first chance to next a swing at Hillary and he's going for it, comparing himself to "Rocky" and criticizing Hills for taking "special interest" money.
Good retort from Hillary. She's clearly in General Election mode talking more about fighting Republicans. What a machine!
Now Russert's goading Edwards to take a swipe at Hillary on her Iran vote. He takes a long time to get around to it, but now he's stepping up to the plate talking about Hillary's helping out Bush on Iran.
Hillary goes domestic in response to Edwards. It's clear that she doesn't want to touch Iran in front of this crowd. Russert will have to put her feet to the fire on the issue.
Here we go...
Hillary in response to Russert says that she's against the rush to war. Really? How's that? She claims that she's against the rush to war but is also against doing nothing. She talks about economic sanctions. How'd that work last time?
Dodd makes the obvious point that the Bush and co. will use whatever wording the Congress gives him as a green light for war. "People should learn from their mistakes in 2002."
Ouch!
This is all good stuff. Hillary's really taking a pounding. But is anyone paying attention?
Biden now talking about how Hillary's vote "emboldened" Bush to talk about WWIII.
Now it's back to Obama. Where the hell are Kucinich and Richardson. I know that they froze Gravel out of this contest, but lob the occasional question at the little guys too, Brian and Tim!
Obama's not the guy to make this argument about Hillary's vote when he couldn't be bothered to show up for the vote.
Here goes Hillary talking about economic sanctions as "diplomacy."
Ouch, Hillary's talking about "carrots and sticks" in dealing with Iran. No wonder Andrew Sullivan calls her "Cheney in a pantsuit."
Hillary not taking the bait on Williams' question about a red line in the sand.
Edwards is great here about how Hillary's full of shite about saying that she's trying to reign Bush in. Good stuff, John.
Richardson's turn finally and he's trying to play the "I'm the seasoned diplomat" card. Biden and Kucinich chiming in against him.
Finally, it's Dennis the K. He seems surprised to be included in the debate. Great stuff on how Bush administration policy is illegal.
Yowsah! Kucinich calling for impeachment! Way hay!
It's noticeable that Kucinich got the first round of applause for his call for impeachment.
Nice stuff from Obama criticizing the politics of fear in response to Hillary's sabre rattling.
Edwards strikes another blow against Hillary, pointing out her cynicism in moving from "primary" mode to "general election" mode. He ends by mocking her, asking if we'll hear "if only I knew then what I know now..."
Both Obama and Edwards do a nice job talking about how the GOP would prefer to run against Hillary.
Very good concise poke from Edwards - if you want the status quo, Hillary Clinton is your candidate.
Hillary tries to retort but it's a weak one. How is she going to take on the Defense Industry if she's taking money from them?
Here comes Richardson trying to be the peacemaker for Hillary. Interesting. Chuck Todd was talking about how Richardson would need Bill Clinton to campaign for him for a Senate run and thus will throw his support in for Hillary and that seems to be happening here.
Dodd takes a poke at Hillary on the electability issue, pointing out that more than 50% indicate that they won't vote for her.
Kucinich again speaks truth to power on the issues of health care and NAFTA.
Biden gets out the line of the night about Rudy Giuliani's lack of experience - "All he ever says is a noun a verb and 9/11." Classic.
Chris Dodd's website is running a fascinating "Talk Clock" for the debate. Not surprisingly, Hillary has had the most time at 18 minutes and change, followed by Obama at 15 minutes and change, Edwards at 12 minutes and change and the moderators just under them. Kucinich and Biden have had the least time at less than 5 minutes a piece.
Wow, a question on education and it's lobbed at Richardson. Unfortunately he trots out the usual "competitiveness gap" crap that's been kicking around since Sputnik. At least he wants to junk NCLB.
Kucinich again has the best stance, talking about taking money from the Pentagon and giving it to schools. And did I mention that his wife is super sweet? Ah yes, I did.
Yikes, Hillary actually has referenced Sputnik and the NDEA as a good thing. Frightening.
Uh oh, Dennis Kucinich has just been exposed as a UFOlogist. Makes him look even more like a space cadet.
Obama gets a good shot in in response by saying he cares more about life on earth. Hear hear.
Dodd gets a chance to talk about decriminalization of marijuana while Edwards plays the square.
Biden speaks in favor of shutting down Chinese toy exports.
The Daily Kos poll has Edwards as the winner tonight. I generally agree although he definitely lost the stoner vote with that answer on pot.
Definitely the worst moderated debate ever. It started with the Hillary show and ended with a question about Halloween costumes. WTF?!
Gator B, Missed the debate, but enjoyed reading your running commentary . . . It is you who needs the larger platform!!
Cheers, Trev. I'm working on it.
