We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

In the early Setanta match, Liverpool have ridden their luck to beat a nine-man Everton through two Dirk Kuyt penalties. 2-1 Pool.

It's all Chelski in the early stages, with some pretty football in midfield.

And it's the upstart Drogba who get Chelski off to a flying start at Boro. Nice ball in from Lamps and Drogs slides it by Swarzer. 1-0.

Boro are having trouble just stringing two passes together. Real rubbish. No wonder they're just off the drop zone.

First good chance for Boro goes to Mido, whose sharp header is saved well by Cech.

It was either the late 80's or early 90's

1548: RED CARD
Fulham defender Paul Konchesky sees red after elbowing Craig Fagan in the face. The home fans are not happy, though it is difficult to work out whether they are fuming at the decision or the general fare.

Fulham have looked good a times this season. I don't know how they are in the bottom three.

Hi,

I'll be in and out of this because a huge limb from our tree came down last night. No visible damage to our gaff, but it demolished the deck of our neighbor two houses down, and took out his and my next door neighbor's cable and electricity.

I'm waiting for that van from State Farm and a team of blokes with chain saws.

But on a happier note, I think that the RVP injury will give Eduardo some time to play and adjust to the English game. He looks a bit Pires to me, really good, but not used to the clattering challenges that refs allow here. Spends a bit too much time on his backside looking aggrieved while Brett Emerton and his ilk lope away to put the boot up someone else.

11:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Come on Boro, get a goal!!!

11:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sorry about the tree Steve.
Strong winds last night?

11:13 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Sorry to hear about the storm damage. KC told me she got caught out in a real downpour last night.

On the Eduardo front, I'm just hoping that he doesn't get into form in time to stick the knife in against us at Wembley.

Exactly. We got home from going out to a costume shop. Ran inside to keep from getting soaked and then watched telly until midnight. The boy opens up the door to let the dog out and comes back, "uh, Dad?....."

It must have made a hell of a racket but you know what they say about the noise that a tree makes coming down.

Eduardo's on a Mikey-esque run of for for Croatia. I think he's scored 6 in his last five for them. Not much chance of a call from the Croatian Governor. We'll be watching a Brit-less Euros this summer.

11:17 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Was that a penalty against Mikel? It looked "ball-to-hand" to me.

Lampard over a free kick here.

No, it's Alex and he whacks it home!

Arsenal are still goalless against the managerless Bolton, but Arsene has thrown Theo Walcott into the mix.

11:28 AM

And that's made the difference. Arsenal finally in the driver's seat, Kolo Toure firing home a free kick. It's 1-0 to the Arsenal.

11:36 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Goals flying in the Prem now after a quiet start. Arsenal are 2-0 up now thanks to a Rosicky goal set up by Theo. Benjani has broken the deadlock between Pompey and Wigan - he's the league's top scorer now, I think. And Reading and Blackburn have traded goals. It's 4-1 now at Ewood.

11:47 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yess! Tresor Kandol is our top scorer this season, he's just signed on for four more years and has scored a trademark late goal that sees us up into 9th spot now, three points off the playoffs and six off the top.

11:48 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

It's all over in Brighton and the lads have secured their tenth win of the season. Hurrah! I'm going to sign off for a while and get some work done while the United game is on.

Citeh are up into second for the time being with that 1-0 win; can United knock them off the perch?

Lovely!

It really does seem like it was the boy wonder what did it for us. Props to Theo and Le Boss for the two-goal win over Bolton, may they fall away and rot in League Two as soon as possible.

And cheers to Leeds. 3 points and another 2 fingers up the FA.

Good results.

RVP has been my favorite player to watch this season . . . unbelievable talent. . .

12:55 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I agree. The coverage has been all about how Fabregas has made this jump in his maturity, but for me, RVP and Adebayor have been the difference this year because after all the nifty interplay, it's them that stick the ball in the net.

Hopefully, he can make a quicker recovery from this than he did from his broken metatarsal bone that he suffered last New Years which was the end of his season last year.

Villa looked quite bright at the start but they can't defend at all. They look amateurish when United slip into gear. You can see United putting a few more in if they can sustain the interest level. I can't see that Villa will be able to keep Aglanbahor or Young this Christmas when the big clubs in trouble or trying to fill in season long injury gaps start sniffing around. Villa on this display are not going anywhere.

I have to say that I really enjoyed watching your lads this afternoon. You started with six attacking minded players - Rooney, Tevez, Giggs, Scholes, Nani and Anderson - and even after Villa had scored, you always looked as if you'd be able to score more than them.

I don't know what Martin O'Neill was whinging about on the touchline. Both red cards were well deserved and there was really very little Rob Styles could have done. Reo-Coker made several lunging, reckless tackles and Carson was last man back. End of story and end of Villa this afternoon. United good value for a 4-1 and it could have been more.

Please do yourself a favor and watch the highlights of the 'Pool Everton match.

I don't think I've seen a better save this season than Pip Neville's palming the ball past the post. Pity he wasn't playing in goal. He's missed his calling. Red card and Taxi! for Pip.

I agree with the Gator, United were just way too much for a simply woeful defensive effort from Villa.

2:31 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I saw that at half time of the United match. Magic save from the Neviller. And in the 91st minute! But what about that rocket of an own goal from Hyppia - stuck out the right peg and voom - top corner! Pool lucky to escape with full points there.

2:42 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I agree that United looked very good and Ronaldo was on the bench!!!
Great save by Neville. I wish Robbo did that on Wednesday.

On an England vain, all is not lost. If Russia don't win we have to beat Croatia. If Russia do win but Croatia lose in Macedonia then England can beat Croatia by three to go through!!!!

Just finished following the Rugger, shame that England could beat the South Africans.
Well done anyway boys!!!
