Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Macca has announced the new England squad for the two upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers. The big news is the return to fitness of Michael Owen and Macca's continuing confidence in Paul Robinson.

Where is Aglanbahor? Defoe can't get a game and the Villa kid is in rich form at the moment.

I agree. I'd have Gabby in there ahead of Bentley. Also Ashton crocked as of the weekend, so maybe he'll slip in as a sub.

Who would you have up front against Estonia. I'd be tempted to go with three (or four!) including Owen up top, Roon just off and SWP running wide. Perhaps AJ or Crouchie off the bench early if it's not working.

By the way, the bad news out of Eastern Europe today is that the Russian federation have refused to do anything about their "plastic pitch" ahead of next Wednesday's match. How do FIFA let them get away with that? I reckon we're looking for a draw out of that one.

You're thinking 3-4-3? 4-3-3?

I think I'd prefer the 4-4-2 even against mugs of Estonia's ilk.

I'd have Carson in goal because Robinson is just hopeless at the moment. I've weighed in on James before and really, if he fluffed something, I'd expect him to whip out a pistol and end it all right there on the pitch. He simply cannot be allowed to play for England again.

Richards, Rio, Terry, Cashley,

SWP, Barry, Gerrard, Joe Cole,

Rooney, free role behind,

Owen by himself.

I'm thinking 3-4-3 or perhaps 3-4-2-1 is a bit more descriptive, with:

Carson

Richards, Rio, Cashley

Barry, Lamps, Gerrard, J. Cole,

SWP (wide right) Roon (in the hole)

Owen

If no goals by half time time, I'd throw another striker on. If none by 60 minutes, toss another on. We're not going to concede any goals, the only question is if we'll score any.

4-4-2? Come on, it's Estonia! Bleedin' 'eck!

Macca has today compared embattled keeper Paul Robinson with former United great Peter Schmeichel. Can I have a bottle of whatever pain medication he's been taking?
