Saturday Pick-Me-Up
I'm feeling a wee bit under the weather this morning, but a full slate of the footer should be just what the doctor ordered. Avram Grant has promised to stick five up front in order to emulate Ossie Ardiles's Spurs team of the 90s. With Fulham both scoring and leaking goal, it should be a real shoot-out. That's followed by ManYoo, still smarting from that League Cup exit, at St. Andrew's. And, of course, I'll have a keen eye on my Leeds boys, trying to make it eight out of eight today. Join me?

Citeh has maintained its terrific start under Sven by tonking Newcastle 3-1 this morning. They're now joint top with the Arse - who take on the Hammers today - on sixteen points.
Will wonders never cease?! Rafa Benitez has decided to keep Torres in the side after his mid-week exertions against Luton where he scored a hat-trick. Stevie G.'s also in the side. Maybe Pool will get back to their early season form today.
The battle of the rock bottoms between Bolton vs. Derby should definitely answer the question - who's the worst defender in the Prem? My money's on Dean Leecock.
Hey, Gator B, sorry you are under the weather . . .I'm off to coach Cal and then Maggie, so I'll be a no show today . . . but I'm still seething about Greg Ryan's decision to bench Hope Solo for the semi-final. He had a hunch Scurry would be a better choice because the way Brazil shot the ball required a keeper with quicker reaction saves. Huh? You have the best keeper in the world, who has been your no. 1 for 18 months and you want to play a hunch in the semi-final of the WC? Typical of coaches who are frustrated former players who want the game to still be about them, instead of the players. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB
Hull City have bounced back from that mid-week hammering by Chelski in the Carling Cup by thrashing Ipswich 3-1. Sorry Blubber.
I hear you on the U.S. Women's team, but didn't you think that it was out of order for Hope to call out Brianna Scurry in that public way?
Good luck to your kids today!
Hey, I am back from Rec Soccer.
How do Chelsea look??
Leeds just took the lead!!!
The Arse are winning at Upton Park.
They haven't won there in years
Hey Dave, I just got off the phone with the Gooner. Yes, we're one up through Seb Carole - his fourth of the season.
This has been a decent game - very end to end. Chelski are indeed playing five up front and Fulham aren't shy about attacking either. Ben Haim was extremely lucky not to concede a penalty - look at it at half time. Definite hand ball.
Keller is playing?
Nemi, where is he?
Anelka has just equalized for Bolton against bottom of the league Derby. Pompey are one up on Reading and Van Persie has put Arsenal in front against the Hammers.
I think Niemi has a knock. Good to see Kasey in goal - three Yanks on for Fulham today. Dempsey's had a couple of good chances.
Pompey have scored a second
They've looked good - who scored? Kanu?
Uh oh,
Leeds are down to ten men. Kandol sent off for a second bookable offence
Liverpool still at 0-0. What on earth has happened to them? They were flying in the first few weeks.
Oh dear.
Benjani has scored both.
They have played all the big guns so far this season
Long may it continue with Costa Del Pool
Chelski's forward line seems to be turning the screw at this point.
Half time at Chelski - still 0-0.
Reading score a late goal at Fratton Park
What do I care... but here is the Carling Cup Draw
Luton Town v Everton
Portsmouth v Blackburn Rovers
Chelsea v Leicester City
Sheffield United v Arsenal
Tottenham Hotspur v Blackpool
Bolton Wanderers v Manchester City
Coventry City v West Ham United
Liverpool v Cardiff City
They didn't show the pen claim for Fulham
Ben Haim went up for a header in the box and it came off his arm. I suppose the ref could claim that it was unintentional but he was miles away from the play at the time.
Alex coming on for JT in the second half. Picked up a knock or scared off by Dempsey?
Terry off Alex on?
Did I just use first names or last!!
Ooh, how did that stay out?
I am starting to dislike Terry.
Everyone talks of toughness.
He has a fractured cheek bone.
Great save by Keller
Apparently the second bookable offense that Kandol was sent off for was "sarcastically applauding the referee's decision." Pathetic. Now we've got to hold on at Gillingham with a one goal lead and ten men.
Well, JT's Judas routine against Jose hasn't endeared him to any Chelski fans this week. Nor has his new deal with them for a nine-year contract, during which he'll be promised the largest cash payout in the club. Bit greedy, eh?
That is pathetic to be sent off for that!!!
Wigan's Marcus Bent has a goal called back for offside
Cambridge Utd are losing 2-0
365 claims that Sheva's every touch is being booed by Chelski fans. I haven't noticed that - have you?
Not much.
The last time I heard a little after he was dispossessed in the midfield.
Reading have tied it up.
Supposedly, it was all Pompey in the first half. 'Arry won't be 'Appy
365 on the Wigan disallowed goal:
"It seems to be the wrong decision as it looked like Jermaine Pennant was playing Bent on-side."
Big mistake by David James.
Crowd cheers when Sheva goes off
Sheva's off to somewhat tepid applause. The commentator reckons he's had a "stinker." I didn't think he was that bad today.
Blackburn have taken the lead at Sunderland
From the Beeb
A goalkeeping howler from David James who comes racing a out of his box on the right to cut out a long ball forward. He doesn't and Dave Kitson fires in from an acute angle with a cool finish.
Blackburn score again
Now Jermaine Beckford has been booked for time wasting. The referee really does seem to have it in for us today.
I'll look forward to seeing that Calamity howler on the wrap up show.
Good stuff from Drogba and a great save from Keller.
Why didn't Smertin hit that clean.
Useless
Leyton Orient are losing 2-0 at Bristol Rovers.
I see that! We're now only seven points off the top if that result holds up.
Pompey have taken the lead again
My SkySports window and has live table. They refuse to give Leeds there points. They are still back down with six points. They would be up to nine and in mid table
Now Beckford's been sent off for a second bookable offense. We're down to nine! Wisey must be doing his nut on the touchline.
Oh my gosh!!!!
Ljunberg has the ball in the net against his old mates but was called back for offside
Wisey has wisely (boom boom) brought Andy Hughes off - he was also on a yellow card. We've got twenty five minutes to grind this out.
Beckford was booked twice in five minutes. Time wasting was one of the bookings.
JCole almost puts it in.
Just wide
I think Reading have a penalty
Now our captain Jonathan Douglas has gone into the book. It's our seventh booking of the match!
James saves the pen
What is the ref's home address.
7 Main St,
Gilligham?
Come on Fulham... get a goal
Casper Ankergren is in the card as well.
DROGBA OFF!!!!
Wow! Drogba off. Amazing! That caps a miserable day for Chelski.
Let's hope it continues to be miserable
Yeah, that was a time wasting one as well. It sounds like since we were reduced to ten men, we've been trying to play the time out.
Accident but very dangerous
I feel that deserves a yellow
Pompey score a fourth
Bit of Kung Fu action there from Drogs - reminds me a certain King Eric.
Bugger, Costa Del Pool have scored
I don't know what you are talking about!!!
Eric? Don't know what who you are talking about mate
With all these bookings, just more ammo for Wisey to use for "all against us fellas".
You do know that Fulham always concede late
Pompey have scored a fifth!!!
From the Beeb
Trouble in the stands at the JJB Stadium which is sold out. Are Liverpool fans in Wigan sections? More on that as and when.
Forest have scored a second
Reading have scored, now it is 5-3
Why didn't we get that game
Orient have tied it up
Make that SIX THREE!!!!
End to end stuff at the Bridge.
Konchesky should have scored.
Orient have taken the lead.
Forest score a third
WHY DIDN'T FULHAM SCORE
How much time left in Gillingham?
Sunderland get a late goal
What another great chance for Fulham.
That's it, more points drop for Chelsea.
Derby draw with Fulham
OH NO
Gillingham tie it up
I mean draw with Bolton
Pompey score number SEVEN
Bugger! While I was chatting with the Gooner, we've let in a late goal. Still unbeaten but now just above the drop zone again on seven points.
Ninety bloody first minute
You've got to be happy with the Chelski result; now a win for you lot will put you in second.
Aren't Gillingham keeping you out?
Fratton Park
SEVEN FOUR!!!!!
Unlucky mate,
Start another winning streak(preferably stick with 11 men)
Now it my lot's turn. GET SOME GOALS
Yeah, the Gills are just below us. Shame we couldn't hang on to that lead.
Bloody hell; what's the goal record in the Premiership? Eleven goals has got to be close to it. Incredible.
Full time at Gillingham - 1-1. Can't complain too much about the string ending. But the referee certainly seemed to be trying as hard as he could to help the Gills out.
I assume that you'll be sticking around the the United match, right?
I thought I'd might
Bloody Hell.
Two really good chances saved by VDS
The Blues will rue those missed chances, eh?
Hope so,
I thought you buggered off
Who have you got in the Champs League midweek?
Rooney almost through
Roma at home.
I have a bloody faculty meeting
Still here...I was just fixing some lunch.
Tough match for you lot. I'll be firing up the VCR as usual.
Pretty evenly matched so far here.
Looks like a lovely afternoon in Brum.
Great save there from Rio!
How do you lot keep your top scorer on the bench?
Oi, where'd you go, Dave?
Nafti - great name, that. He does look a proper Nafti too.
Oh dear, VDS looks crocked here. He's got the gloves off. Kruszak to come on?
You've gone off to hide from this performance, haven't you, Dave?
Come on - let's be 'aving yer!
I have been on the couch instead of at the computer.
Not very impressive.
I am not a happy camper
bloody useless
Half time
Very very very unimpressive.
What is going on?
Half-time and we still haven't seen any goals on FSC this morning. Why couldn't we have got that Pompey-Reading match?
This is still winnable for United, even though Brum are working very hard as they did last week against Pool. It'll take a moment of magic. I still think they should take off old man Giggs, let Tevez drift wide left and put on their only proper striker - Saha.
What did you think of the Fulham penalty claim - seemed a good shout to me.
Love the Drogba kung fu kick - lovely stuff.
GOAL! Ronaldo nips in tuck it home there after a bad mistake from Quedreau.
Good save there from Kruschak after a deflection from Rio. McSheffrey looks a good player for Brum. And how on earth did they get Johan Djourou on loan off the Arse. Good biz from Stevie Bruce there.
Get Giggs off - he looks thoroughly gassed. And where's he playing?
Uh oh, Nafti's definitely going into the book there for a trip on Ronaldo.
Finally Giggsy's coming off and Saha is on. And almost immediately, Saha's knocked Djourou off balance and the Arsenal kid is on the turf.
One nil up but still very depressed.
What is up with my lot?
Could have been a pen for Fulham. I agree.
I also agree with taking Giggs off. He was hopeless
We need Nev to get good crosses in.
Brown is no Gary Neville
Agreed, Brown's had a torrid time against McSheffrey today. You can't see the Neviller being made a monkey like that.
As they say, though, the mark of the championship contender is winning 1-0 when not firing on all cylinders.
Tevez off now. What did you think of him today, Dave?
It's a testament to Brum's performance today that SAF hasn't rested the main attackers earlier.
Well, another win for United.
But I am very upset and disappointed.
This is not how I want my team to play. United NEVER take to the corner to waste time. That is not the way United play. Ronaldo, Saha and Rooney all did it!! What is going on? Knock it off.
I am not a happy camper.
Cheers,
Dave
Another win for United and a useful one there. You may not be happy with the way that your side is performing but you can't argue with three points - something Pool couldn't get last weekend against Brum. It's clear what Stevie Bruce intends to do this season. Will it work? That remains to be seen. There are a lot more rubbish and disorganized teams in the league.
