Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Saturday Blowout!

It's that time again and I'm looking forward to a cracking day of the footie. First up - Arsenal vs. lowly Derby, and I want a cricket score. The Gunners have been in spectacular form so far this season, so we should see some goals hitting the net.

Of course, I'll also be checking on my Leeds boys, away to Swansea today. Come on you Whites!

They've just mentioned on the FSC preshow that Derby's Billy Davies is rumored to be close to the sack, with Paul Jewell to take his place. So that's Derby relegated, eh?

9:54 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

So five up front for the Arse today, right?

9:55 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The Arse are without Lehmann, Gallas, Eboue and Hleb.

9:56 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And we're kicking off!

10:01 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Derby - the worst team to ever play in the Premier League?

10:02 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Arsenal going all long ball at the outset of this one for some reason.

10:04 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oooh, first good chance there for Adebayor, just didn't latch onto that great center from Clichy.

10:05 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

First goal of the afternoon goes to Keano's Sunderland in the big Northeast derby with Boro.

10:07 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

It's good to see Eddie Lewis playing in the Premiership, albeit briefly, with Derby.

10:09 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Wallop! What a fantastic strike from Diaby. And the floodgates have opened on a very long afternoon for Derby.

1-0 to the Arsenal.

10:12 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And Diaby's nearly had another one. And Walcott on the rebound! They're all teeing up for target practice here.

10:15 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nearly a penalty there. Walcott was away to the races and seemed to be shoved over, but Walcott went down a bit too easily.

10:16 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Boro have evened it up.

The action at the Emirates has stopped for a few minutes to take care of Eddie Lewis after a clash of heads with Sagna.

I am here.
Jon and Matt had Rec soccer. They have it every week for about 6 weeks.
I will be home this time.
Arsenal already one up.
I will look at all the other scores.

Blogger United We Stand said...

Two nil to the Arsenal.
How many are they going to get?

10:27 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Morning Dave! Arsenal now 2-0 up. Adebayor chests down a lovely pass from Fabregas, rounds the keeper and tucks it in.

You know, Derby have made the insane decision to try to play some football this afternoon and I'd be shocked if the Arse weren't three or four up by the half. This is too easy.

10:28 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Is United's Prem record Nine-Nil in danger?

10:28 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Still nil nil at Elland Road.
Any chances of yet?

10:30 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, I think so.

What do you reckon about the controversy about Ronaldo? Will it keep him out of the side for tomorrow?

10:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I haven't really read into it.
Is there a chance he is suspended for tomorrow?

10:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Reading have taken the lead at home to Wigan.
Coppell needs the points.

10:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Derby have had the ball for more than thirty seconds!!!!

10:35 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Wolves are two up against Norwich

10:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

In League One,
Leyton Orient are losing at home, Tranmere are winning away.
Be careful both of you, Leeds are coming

10:37 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Why are Reading so poor this season?

10:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

From the beeb, a bit surprising.

1535: "Maik Taylor in the goal for Birmingham has yet to make a save."

10:37 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Maik Taylor?

10:38 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't know what is up with Reading.
They played really well against my lot and The Has Been Blues

10:38 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Did you watch any of the USA England Women's World Cup semi final this morning?
The English were holding their own in the first half. I didn't see the second half but the USA steamrolled 3-0.

10:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

George Burley may be in trouble.
They are two down to Barnsley at home.
What a change in his career after his strong start with Ipswich.

10:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sheff Wed are winning!!!
They are the exact opposite of Leeds.
Lost them all so far.

10:43 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Taylor has been with Birmingham for years

10:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Forest have taken the lead

10:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great save by Bywater

10:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Cambridge are leading at half time.
I want them back in the league

10:48 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nah, I didn't catch the women's match - where was it?

10:50 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And the Arse have settled for just the 2-0 at the half. It could have been much worse for Derby but for some desperate defending and some brilliant saves from Bywater.

10:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ESPN or China. Whichever one answers your question

10:54 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, ESPN, eh? I missed it.

11:05 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

So what do they actually show on that David Beckham show on FSC - xrays of his leg?

11:06 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Never watched it.
Maybe his new haircuts.

11:08 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Any sign of a goal at Elland Road?

11:08 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bloody hell.
FSC are at least three minutes delayed.
I knew this pen was coming.
COME ON

11:10 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Wigan have tied it up at Reading.

Costa Del Pool still being held. Come on Brucie, keep it tight.

11:10 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bit of a soft penalty there, didn't you think. The ref really shouldn't blow up until the shirt's been ripped.

But still - 3-0 Arse. Bywater a bit unlucky not to save from Adebayor.

11:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Orient are two down

11:12 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Marcus Bent has equalized for Wigan.

11:13 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Championship leader Bristol City are losing at home to Burnley

11:14 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Derby are going to win this 4-3

11:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Orient get a goal back.

An American on for Derby.
Is that the guy who scored that cracker against Mexico?

11:18 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Way hay - another American in the Premier League coming on - Benni Feilhaber. He's a good little player. On a hiding to nothing at Derby, unfortunately.

11:18 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Half an hour left in the Leeds vs. Swansea and still 0-0. We need one in off the bum to keep up the perfect record.

11:20 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Rafa left out Torres today.
Doesn't he want to win the league.
Two league games in a row not in the starting line up

11:21 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Leeds always get AT LEAST one late goal a game

11:24 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

TOLD YOU.
ONE NIL

11:24 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I was wondering about that. The squad rotation is killing their Premiership campaign. Rafa only seems to care about the Champions League. Doesn't he understand that most Scousers would trade the championship for the Champions League any day of the week? Time for "Vaginaface" to wake up.

11:25 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Beckford with the goal after 62 minutes

11:25 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

As we speak, Leeds are up to 18th

11:25 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Thank you very much, Nostradamus. 1-0. And it's Beckford again. I think his sixth of the season. He's on a tear.

11:26 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Indeed!

11:26 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I was right - Jermaine Beckford's on six now; and Tresor Kandol's on five. A great striking partnership.

11:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great strike by goal machine Cesc

11:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Prutton scores #2

I am Nostradamus.

11:32 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

4-0 Arsenal and another great goal from Fabregas. Everything he hits these days seems to be flying in. That one was bobbling all about and still when he hit it, it went like a laser beam into the back of the net. Game over.

11:33 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Lovely jubbly! Leeds United calypso, Leeds United calypso, feel so happy, I feel so fine, the Elland Road lads are pals of mine!

11:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I missed it but Downing has put Boro two one up versus Keano's lot

11:35 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Stuart Downing has scored for Boro in the big Northeast derby.

11:35 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Leeds have a +13 goal difference.
Next closest are the top two with +5.
That's worth another point

11:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I know that Arsenal are on fire but they have Blackburn away but have played Fulham, Man City, Portsmouth at home.
They have played Spurs away, West Ham away,Sunderland at home, Bolton at home and then Liverpool away. That match, on October 27, is only their second game outside of London.

Five nil

11:41 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

True, it's been a fairly easy run of it for them, but they can only beat who are in front of them and they've done it in some style. You have to admit that the crushing of Sevilla in midweek puts them in the top few teams on the planet right now.

11:43 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That was a Bob Dahlgren tackle there

11:44 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Great hat-trick from Adebayor and that was the best. He had a lot to do there. It was really just a hopeful ball forward, but he took it brilliantly on the chest, beat one man and slid it home with panache.

11:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Come on Brummies, hold on

11:44 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Hey, hey, hey, what are you talking about? I was never a clogger.

11:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am not taking anything away from Arsenal. They look really good

11:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What do you mean? It was great goal saving sliding tackle

11:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

BTW, you were supposed to say that Ade's third goal reminded you of me.

11:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bristol City have come back to take the lead.
Can you say Premiership

11:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Palace have score a last minute goal against the Blades.

11:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Reading have scored a 90th minute goal

11:50 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

He's not really the same kind of player as you, Dave, is he? You're more in the mold of Peter Beardsley or Carlos Tevez, don't you think? Those are the guys that remind me of you.

11:52 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

It would be nice to see a Bristol side in the Premiership after such a long time. I like Bristol as a city.

11:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Ok, I will take that.
Of course, neither of those two have scored in the Premiership this season!!
Was it you or your bro that said Bellamy was like me?

11:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Yes, Costa Del Pool held at home.
Well done Stevie B.

11:54 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Liam has scored a last ditch equalizer for Sunderland and you know that Keano's off the bench pumping his fist in the air.

11:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sunderland snuck an equalizer past me.

11:55 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, that's me too. Gooner had picked out some Italian Serie B dude who's a dead ringer for you.

And no Jaap Stam jokes, please.

11:55 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Arsenal 5-0 winners; an outstanding performance, but it was Derby, who are rubbish.

11:56 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Leeds win again. Seven in a row.
Many congratulations. Long may it continue

11:56 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'm going to bugger off and do some work, but any predictions for tomorrow before I leave? I'm going 2-0 Yernited.

11:57 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Serie B !!!!!!!

11:57 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes, indeed. We've only lost one this season and that was to a Premiership side - Pompey - in the Carling Cup. Not bad at all.

11:59 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

No predictions. I just hope it is a win.
I won't be around for the match. I have my own game in the morning.
Great to spend the morning with you.

Cheers

I just had to share.

I am listening to Talksport and some guy called saying that Roman Abramovic should go.
The host said it was like
Life of Brian.
What has Roman ever done for us?
We used to have Spencer playing up front and now we have Drogba but... what has Roman ever done for us???

Just thought I would share. I thought it was quite funny
