In earlier results, Villa have beaten Everton 2-0 and Newcastle have beaten West Ham 3-1. Sorry about that, Sir Trev.

The goals are flying in elsewhere. Kanu has scored for Pompey away to Blackburn while Spurs and Bolton are locked at 1-1.

Why are all these games being played on a Sunday!?

Excellent start for the Red Devils. Rooney tried a bender there and Cech was forced to claw it away with his fingertips.

And now Rio's pulled up with what looks like a groin injury. He was tugging at himself Michael Jackson-style there after that last challenge.

Chelski has barely had a kick - a very nervy start.

Rio's hobbled off but it looks like he'll be able to continue for now.

Sheva has a pop from distance but it's well wide and the crowd are jeering him.

A big penalty shout there for ManYoo as Joe Cole seems to bring Evra down on the edge of the area. I think Chelski dodged a bullet there. Can they dodge more?

Football 365's view of the incident:

"Evra and Joe Cole chase Carrick's long ball into the box, and Cole slides in on Evra who goes down appealing for a penalty. Very, very close. Cole got some of the ball, but whether it was before he got Evra's legs is debatable. Mike Dean waves away the appeals though."

Chelski are giving the ball away far too cheaply in their own half and ManYoo are racking up the corners - five so far. You feel that one of these chances is going to fly in.

The chemistry between Tevez and Rooney is not right. Neither is really an out and out striker. You'd love to see what Rooney might do if running a bit behind a world class striker, while Tevez is more used to running wide where the old man Giggs is permanently planted. Surely time to put Ryan out to pasture?

Oh dear, the referee has lost his head and given Mikel a straight red for a lunging tackle that was a yellow at best. That might well ruin the whole contest. Shame.

365 agrees with me:

"Controversy here. Mikel has been sent off for Chelsea. I have to say, he's unlucky. He's gone in a bit studs-first, but it's not high and he has taken some of the ball. Big moment in the game, big decision for the ref, and he's got that wrong."

Never, ever, was that a red . . . serves Mikel right for being so buff I suppose, although I think a still breeze could send Evra going at least half that far in the air

I agree, Sir Trev.

Good chance there for Vidic from a free kick, but Cech gathers. Vidic has looked United's biggest goal threat this season, which says everything you want to know about their problems in front of goal.

GOAL: Tevez with his first for United. Not sure where all this extra time is coming from, but Carlito takes full advantage diving at a cross from Giggs after a corner.

Half-time: 1-0 ManYoo: Disappointing so far, given the dramatic pre-match build-up.

You can see the problem with top-level footie with these two sides. There's only one proper striker on the pitch and that's an aging and embattled Shevchenko, who's worked his socks off but mostly in tracking back.

United are playing two wingers and two forwards who like to drop deep and run at defenders. Whenever someone gets a decent cross over, there's no one there.

Chelski started with Sheva up alone, with two wide men and three central defensive mids (Essien, Mikel and Makelele). After Mikel went off, Grant had a chance to shift things, but he's sticking with trying to bottle of the middle. Now that United have scored, he'll have to explore some attacking options.

Second half starting....

And Chelski have basically gone to putting ten men behind the ball, hoping for a lapse in concentration on the part of United's backline (read: Rio) to spring Sheva. SWP and Kalou on the bench - hello!

Dodgy penalty but I think it was for the face challenge not the foot.

Saha very lucky

Three points in the bag.

Sorry I tuned out in the second half there while I was chatting with the Gooner.

In the end, a bit of a dodgy win there for United, IMHO. They're playing a Chelski team who are still in shock, playing against ten men for eighty minutes and can still only manage a header from a corner and a dodgy penalty.

Dire performance from referee Mike Dean today. He got all three big decisions wrong:

1) The legitimate penalty in the first half on Evra.

2) The Mikel sending off.

3) The dodgy penalty converted by Saha in the second half. Saha hopped over Ben Haim's leg and should've been booked for it.
