Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Footie Trivia Question of the Week

With the Champions League group matches up again, here's another bit of moneygrubber trivia for all of you supporters of the elite:

"Three players have made more than 100 appearances in the Champions League and European Cup combined, and all for only one team a piece. Name them and their clubs."

Good luck, lads.

I would say Gary Neville, Raul and Maldini.

Two out of three ain't bad, Dave.

Spot on with Maldini - #1 on the list with 116(!) appearances. He is a creaky, old sod. Also with Raul at a comparatively paltry 104. But you didn't get #3.

The Neviller is #6 on the list with 94 appearances and, if he ever gets over the gammy knee problems, he may well break the ton.

Try again, mate.

Pippo Inzaghi?

You know, it's a great guess, but Pippo doesn't make the top ten for some reason. He's been around for ever, playing at the top flight for a perennial Champions League side, so I can only imagine it's got to be about injuries for him. He did play for Lazio when he was younger, so perhaps he didn't have the opportunities with them that he has with Milan.

Oliver Kahn

Another good guess; Ollie's in at #5 with 97 appearances, all for Bayern.

Still that elusive #3 to get.

Roberto Carlos? He must have a few games under his belt for Real at least.

Ding, ding, ding. Roberto "Massive Thighs" Carlos did indeed make 102 appearances for Real in both Champs League and European Cup.

Thanks for playing, lads.
