Champions League - Gameday 2!
It was a great day for the British clubs yesterday with ManYoo, Rangers and the Arse all picking up useful wins. Let's hope for more of the same today as Chelski travel to Valencia, Liverpool host Marseille and Celtic take on Milan in the game of the day on ESPN2. Join me if you're around and about today.

I'll be happy to be the sand in the vaseline and say that the competition only needs Arsenal, United, and Liverpool and for dressing, a Scots team, Celtic, 'Gers, makes no difference.
I personally would just love to see Chelsea done over today to add to the chaos. Especially if Ashley and the foreign players suck it big time. I'd be ok with Joe Cole or SWP getting a consolation effort to keep their confidence for England's qualifying campaign up. Otherwise, I'm hoping that Valencia hunts Chelsea in packs and that David Villa shoves it right up 'em.
I'd be okay with that too, but my instinct is to back the English clubs on a big European night, so I hope that Chelski'll pull their fingers out.
I've just got home to find that they're playing the Liverpool vs. Marseilles game on ESPN2. Ah well, it's lovely to have the flexibility to spend the afternoon watching the footer. Come on you Reds!
Here are the sides:
Liverpool: Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Aurelio, Benayoun, Gerrard, Sissoko, Leto, Torres, Crouch.
Subs: Itandje, Riise, Voronin, Arbeloa, Kuyt, Babel, Mascherano.
Marseille: Mandanda, Bonnart, Rodriguez, Givet, Taiwo, Cana, Cheyrou, Valbuena, Ziani, Zenden, Niang.
Subs: Hamel, Oruma, Cisse, Arrache, Zubar, M'Bami, Moussilou.
Referee: Konrad Plautz (Austria)
Rafa chopping and changing as usual, but he's at least got Torres in the line-up for a change and it'll be fascinating to see how he gets on with Crouchie up front.
Bolo Zenden's having a grumpy return to Anfield, already getting a ticking off from the referee. The other former Liverpool employee - Cisse - is on the bench looking a bit like a character out of Star Wars. Quite extraordinary facial hair option, that.
Just as the Gooner ordered. David Villa has knocked in a first goal for Valencia against Chelski. If they get spanked tonight, it could easily be curtains for Grant.
And Ruud has scored an early goal for Real away to Lazio. They're flying at the moment.
Hey Guys,I am home for a while until I have to go to Tom's game
The surface here at Anfield is really skiddy after some torrential rain in Liverpool, and it's not helping the flow of the match.
Hey, Dave!
Steven Gerrard's just gone into the book for a scything challenge where he got some ball but absolutely clattered the Marseilles man.
I really don't know what I think.
I am like you Bob. Always root for the English. Though, I am sort of on Steve's side. I want more turmoil at The Bridge.
From the Beeb.
1958: Chelsea haven't mustered much of a response to that setback at the Mestalla. They look out of sorts and lacking in confidence.
Why did the keeper punch that one?
Chelsea have just tied it up
IT was an OG
That's Continental keeping for you. Unfortunately it's crept in the English game too. Robbo's a bit of a wild puncher.
Crouch and Torres seem to have no chemistry at all.
Marseille aren't sitting back. Just like Roma last night.
United were very lucky
Dahlgren-like saving tackle there
Absolutely!
Football 365 has credited that Chelski goal to "Cole." Dunno if it's Joe or Ashley.
Did you see that because of only two games on Saturday, there is no live match at 10 o'clock. There is a Sky Sports at that time and during the week they have been live shows so it may be interesting to follow.
There is a 10 o'clock game on Sunday, I think it Costa Del Pool and Spurs

2005: GOAL Valencia 1-1 Chelsea
For all of those predicting Chelsea to fold, think again. Neat play on the left between Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda and when the latter puts in a low cross it is turned in for an own goal by Emiliano Moretti, with Joe Cole in close attendance.
Lazio have tied it up
Yeah, I noticed that. Shame. It's all Serie A crap on Saturday, but I'll look forward to the Spurs vs. Liverpool on Sunday.
What happened there?
Just offside.
Tight offside decision there. Liverpool riding their luck.
Yes, Pandev has equalized for Lazio.
And Werder Bremen have scored against Olympiakos.
Walter Brennan, I mean Werder Bremen have scored
Meanwhile in the Championship, Muzzy Izzet - remember him? - has scored a second for Colchester against QPR. They've just sacked John Gregory and are looking to pry Dennis Wise off of us.
Marseilles fans doing the "Oles" already. There should some rules of thumb with that behavior:
1) Your side has to be at 3-0 up.
2) It's deep in the second half.
3) You're from a Latin American background.
Otherwise, you're a total prawn doing it.
Are they really?
Wise wouldn't want to go, they are going to be swapping places in another seven months
Let's hope so.
Have you caught Djibril Cisse's new look. It's quite something!
My New England Revolution lads will be playing F.C. Dallas in the U.S. Open Cup Final tonight on FSC. Will you be watching?
Shahktar Donetsk are 1-0 up away to Benfica in case you were bothered.
Half-time: 0-0; no extra time to speak and precious little action either. A bit of a Champions League bore if we're being honest. In the past three matches I've watched live, I've only seen one goal. Feeling a bit goal-starved really. Where's that Benjani bloke from Pompey when you need him?
I don't know if I will be watching the MLS.
I STILL can't get into it.
Sorry I can't hang around but off to see Tom's game.
I'll be around for United on Saturday and probably on Sunday
Cheers
Cheers, Dave. You won't be missing much. Whistles starting to go up from the Pool fans. They have been rubbish tonight.
Jan Arne Riise coming on for Sebastian Leto, who hasn't impressed.
It's funny - Liverpool were really flying in their first two weeks and they've completely lost their form due to Rafa's constant chopping and changing policy.
He has to go!
Ooh, shame there. Finnan fizzed a nice ball over and Crouch just couldn't get his giraffe-like leg around the ball to ping it into the net. He either looks brilliant or really ungainly.
Valencia have it in the net again through Fernando Morientes, but it's been ruled offside. Lucky break for Chelski.
Jamie Carragher joins Gerrard and Sissoko in the ref's book as he wrestles a Marseilles player to the floor.
McManus has popped a crucial goal in for Celtic against Milan. What a result that would be!
And Ruud has added a second goal for Real.
Rafa defies belief once again, switching out Torres for Voronin. I'd have had Crouchie off for Kuyt, but what do I know?
Meanwhile Djibril Cisse has come on.
My, my, my. Drogba has just netted what may well be an improbably winner for Chelski. It could well save Avram Grant's job and Chelski's Champions League campaign.
And finally we're getting that Kuyt for Crouch substitution I was calling for earlier. So now it's Veronin and Kuyt for Pool.
GOAL: And it's come for Marseilles from a somewhat speculative effort that's come off the bar and dropped in. It's all they deserve though. They frustrated Liverpool for sixty minutes and have now punished them and the French fans are going potty!
And Kaka has equalized from the penalty spot for Milan. Not a good couple of minutes there for the British teams, but believe it or not Chelski are the standard bearers in Europe tonight, still leading Valencia 1-2 away from home.
Pandev has scored again and its honors even between Lazio and Real.
Five minutes left for Pool to rescue this and incredibly there are some fans leaving Anfield.
Oh, that was a real chance for Sami Hyppia to head one in. He was clear and it just needed a well-timed strike.
And now it's a mad scramble with chances from Gerrard, Kuyt and Torres, who strikes the post. Wow!
Well, Liverpool have crashed to a defeat at home tonight, but Celtic and Chelski have pulled off an improbable wins against Milan and Valencia.
2 things,
First, what's going through Dida's mind? "WTF? That little sod's slapped me. I'm gonn...hang on, that gobshite looks like an extra from "Trainspotting" and likely to be carrying a knife. Better hold onto my face and fall over here.
I'm in total agreement that the slapper got a lifetime ban from Celtic Park, and imagine that Celtic might have to play their next CL home match in a lock-down, but shouldn't Dida be given a match ban too for a blatent dive?
and secondly, has anyone else noticed Ruud Van Nistelroy's verbal tick when speaking English? When he's asked a question like, are you enjoying this good run of goal-scoring or, it Real a legitimate CL contender this year, or some other question he can answer emphatically in the affirmative, he says "of course, of course."
You just couldn't make that up.
