Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Leeds vs. Hereford Live!

It's a new era for my Leeds boys - the first time that the club has participated in the First Round of the FA Cup. We're away to Hereford today and I'm hoping it's the start of a glorious Cup run.

It's the first time I've seen the Whites live in a couple of seasons, so join me for the FSC coverage starting in a couple minutes.

First sight of Dave Bassett, our new assistant gaffer after the exit of Gus Poyet. Not a fan, but he can get us out of this league and to a good Cup run, I may change my mind.

2:32 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

As usual we'll be looking to our two top goalscorers Tresor Kandol and Jermaine Beckford - both on eight goals for the season - for the goals today.

2:35 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Uh oh, it's the highlights of last year's final. Dave won't want to relive that day, eh? Where are you Davey boy?

2:37 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

You have to get a tingle from watching John Terry grabbing the Cup at the new Wembley. Will it be Jonathan Douglas this season? Well, they have to see off Hereford first.

Come on you Whites!

2:42 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Looks as if we're in our yellow away kit.

Come on you Yellows!

2:45 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Hey, I am here. I got off early from school for some evacuation drill.
Just in time for the kick off.
Hereford in the FA Cup always remind me of Ronny Radford thunderbolt against Newcastle

Leeds in yellow. Off we go

2:46 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Here we go! Here we go! Here we go!

2:46 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Pulling the fire alarm again, eh mate? Naughty naughty. But it's good to have you on board.

2:47 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh dear that could have been a penalty in the first bloody minutes. That didn't look too clever.

2:48 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

was that a pen? I don't think so

2:48 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Are you wearing your shirt?
I got your email and replied to it

2:48 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The home side really pouring it on here. We're going to have to weather the early onslaught.

2:48 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, and it's the yellow one too. An omen?

2:49 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Leeds are struggling at the moment. Hereford are in second place in League 2

Wisey is still on a touchline ban, right?

2:51 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Did you hear that Roon's out for four weeks? Picked up a knock in training today. Bugger!

2:51 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, he's up in the stands with Dave Bassett, our new #2.

2:51 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I agree - Hereford aren't bad. But I'm hoping their confidence will wane as the match goes on.

2:52 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Come on, Tresor!

2:53 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

WHAT? Rooney?
I just looked it up
BUGGER!!!!!!!!

2:54 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, what do you think? Owen and Crouchie for England next week?

2:55 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Out of the England match.
He will only miss the Blackburn match and the two meaningless Champions League games.
Is this good for England? Owen and Roon don't seem to work. Owen and Crouch for Croatia? Boy I hope it means something.

2:55 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Flipping heck, Casper, hang on to it, you big Scandinavian wally!

2:56 PM

Blogger gatorbob said...

Unbelievable looking pitch for a League Two team. In November? Do you remember what the Baseball Ground used to look like by November?

2:57 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Beeb says he will miss Bolton, Fulham and possibly Derby. All winnable games without him.
I am just bummed for England.

Leeds are riding their luck right now

2:58 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

If this is how we play week in week out, I'm glad that I don't get to see them live - I'm having a heart attack here.

2:59 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What memories, classic stuff on Baseball Ground

2:59 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Saha time?

2:59 PM

How does that song go that starts with...

"And it's Leeds United, Leeds United F.C."

I can never make out the next line. It's just "blah blah blah blah..."

3:05 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That was a crap free kick but it nearly snuck through to Beckford.

3:06 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Wow, what a great video.
Little Archie Gemmel.
Loved it.
Great pitch

3:06 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am off to my in- law's for a little. I will be back

3:07 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh, nearly there for Carole.

3:08 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Right-ee-o.

3:09 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh, that was nasty from Robinson. Should've been a card, ref.

3:11 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

We've settled into this well, now. But we need to capitalize on this pressure. Come on!

3:13 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Beckford went for the acrobatic there, but he just couldn't keep it down.

3:22 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nice header there, lad. We'll take those all day long.

3:24 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

It strikes me after watching last night's Eastern Conference playoff that this match is about on par with it for quality. That doesn't say much for MLS.

3:25 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Half time: 0-0 Very tight match, with a lot of graft but few chances and little guile.

3:33 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am back.

3:44 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That link you sent me,
Did you see the Derby Leeds match.
Franny Lee diving like a swan for a pen. Norman Hunter and Franny gets sent off. Now there is a complete free for all CLASSIC

3:47 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Take a look Derby Leeds Nov '75.
Great fisticuffs.

3:48 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Second half starting. As Dave would say, "It's Leeds time!"

3:50 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nice imitation of Taylor T there with the bicycle kick.

3:53 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The second period has started at a strolling pace, but that might suit us. Much less frenetic than the start.

3:53 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'm not liking this Theo Robinson character. What a punk!

3:55 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Just typical, the one time you get to see Leeds it is also live on Five Live

3:55 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He should have gotten that at the back post.
The radio is a little behind the TV

3:56 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ooh, that was close

3:56 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That was a bit too close for comfort. Not liking this Robinson bloke.

3:57 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Welcome back, Dave! How are the in-laws?

3:57 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nice effort from Ben Parker. Had the keeper scrambling.

3:59 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Did you only just see me arrive.
I have sent EIGHT comments!!! Do you read mine buddy?

3:59 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Don't remind me of those defeats.

4:01 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Remind you about what defeats?
The Derby game? I just like the punch up

4:02 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Douglas into the book for that tug back.

4:03 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

No, Gubba just reeled off all of our FA Cup final defeats.

4:03 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

If needed, the replay is Tuesday week

4:03 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I see..
Did you see the punch up

4:04 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Sorry, mate. I've just gone back and looked at them. I thought you were still at the in-laws.

I did look at that Derby vs. Leeds match. Good stuff. Bites yer legs!

4:05 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

great memories of FA Cup on Five Live

4:05 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

November 20th, right? Bugger, that's a really bad day. I'm off to D.C. again. Come on, lads. Finish em off!

4:08 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That is the day before the England match.
I have the Wednesday off for the game.

4:09 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

One of our big men should've challenged for that cross. And, oh, just along the line.

4:09 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

It's getting closer and closer to the REAL Leeds time!!!

4:10 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

How did you arrange that?

4:12 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh dear, what's going on here. Looks like Parker's going into the book.

4:13 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Some changes here. Hereford are sticking Guinan on and our Portugeezer Da Costa is coming on.

4:15 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Come on, Casper. Pull your finger out!

4:16 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Fifteen minutes left - Leeds Time!

4:17 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Beckford looks like he's wearing boxing gloves!

4:22 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Where'd you go, Dave? I'm reading your comments, honestly.

Bloody hell, that was close. Good save, Casper!

4:23 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And then Casper flaps at the resulting corner. I don't know, I just don't know.

4:24 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

It's the third overhead attempt from Beckford and he's getting the "Wank, wank, wank" chant from the Hereford boo boys.

4:25 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Now we're throwing an enormous looking bloke - Leon Constantine. Kandol's going off. He hasn't had much joy today.

4:26 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Beckford's touch has been terrible all game. It just bounces off of him as if he's made of stone.

4:29 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I just had to run Jon to a friend.
LOOK, 4 minutes to go TAKE OFF THE SHIRT!!!

4:30 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Free kick opportunity...but Heath heads wide.

4:30 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Tom said that Hereford came close!!

4:31 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Right the shirt's off!

4:31 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Oh my god, an overhead kick AND he wasn't offside.

4:31 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Ooooh, how did Hereford's striker miss that one. What a sitter. I was just about to blame you for getting me to take the shirt off.

4:31 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

We're under the cosh again. Come on!

4:32 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Good tackle!

4:34 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Three minutes of added time.

Dangerous run... if he went down it could have been a pen

4:34 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Blow up, ref. This is agonizing.

4:34 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Jamie Clapham, Jamie Clapham, Jamie Clapham!

4:35 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Radio said that Leeds should have been out from the late chance.
Jamie Clapham, an ex- tractor boy

4:35 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think he comes from Bury St. Edmunds

4:35 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Last chance!

4:36 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Well, that's it. Sorry they couldn't score for you. Hey, at least your in the hat!!!

4:37 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Full-time: Well, that was fairly dire. Even by MLS standards, it was poor. I suppose I could say that we'll do them over when we have them on our patch. But will FSC be showing it? I doubt it.

0-0.

4:37 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Cheers, Dave!

4:38 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Talk to you on the weekend.

4:42 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Congrats on getting to see your boys in action for the first time in a while. Sorry they just couldn't do the biz for you.

10:12 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, a bit disappointing to see them performing so poorly, especially against a side like Hereford.

Any guesses on the Gooner trivia?
